Wow. Talk about night and day! This website is beautifully designed and easily navigable. It will be a huge boon to the community. Great job by the Webmaster!
Congrats KVI!
Now I can't think of any reason to buy the local paper. You've got everything they have and your information and coupons are free. Good job.
Congrats to WKVI, the voice of Starke County. I love the new site! I check as often as I can from Afghanistan to see what is going on in my hometown while I am deployed. Thank you for all that you do!!

Very nice…looks like the big time….Raleigh doesn’t have one that comprehensive.

Craig Ison,
Thank YOU for all you do! We are all very appreciative of everything you do...stay safe and come home soon.
Lou
Great job WKVI staff, now real stories with the actual facts unlike the local newspapers. Site looks great and user friendly.

Please note there will be a joint Starke County Council and Starke County Commissioners special meeting at 1.00PM on July 31st, 2009 to discuss a capital management plan.
There will also be a joint meeting of the Starke Co. Council and the Starke Co. Commissioners July 30th 2009 at 5.00 PM, both meetings will be in the Starke Co. Annex building.
As a tribute to all the Eastern Kentucky/Starke County residents: Can we please bring back Kentucky Night on WKVI? We have lost so many wonderful transplanted Breathitt/Magoffin county folks; (including my parents, Dennis and Jewel Cole) who deserve such a fitting tribute/recognition for all their love, faith, and hard work and legancy they leave with us. Thanks!
Wanda all you need do is go to the Home Page of the New WKVI Web Sits, click on community, then columnists, then From the East Wing. There you will find severl stories from Eastern Kenturck. Stories from Breathitt, Magoffin, Perry, Pike and more. While you'er there check the "Pop Bottle Wars of Toto"
I love the website and visit daily. Great job! I am telling all of my friends...this is the place to get all your info. And the music that is playing on the air, is a blended delight.
I remember the start of WKVI and Ted and Harold are truly the voices of the Kankakee Valley. They have served the community of Knox exceptionally well and deserve great recognition. WKVI.com helps keep all of us who live outside the area keep in touch with what is going on in Knox. Keep up the good work and the new website is great.
I love the site! You know what y'all need though is a section on your staff. Pics, bios, etc. It's a nice way to connect with your listeners! (plus, this is usually one of the busiest hits on the site) So c'mon WKVI, we want to see the faces behind the radio and some info!
If you go to the home tab on the front page you will find the staff info. Thanks for writing.
I love the new website. I check it several times a day just to see what is on your classifieds. I also do not need to buy the paper anymore because everything that I checked it now on your website. I wish however there were more coupons. Thanks for keeping me up to date on what is going on is Starke County.
Any chance of live streaming?
What have they done to our highway?
The new site is great, but just a few notes:
It's pronounced "HOOPing Cough"! You do not use the 'W' sound when pronouncing Whooping Cough! You know...when someone has this, the cough SOUNDS like a 'HOOOOP', not a 'WOOOOP'!
And, also, why don't you call THIS what it is - it's the 'Swine' Flu....'H1N1' is a distortion...please don't become 'politically correct'...it's still the 'Swine Flu', folks.
Anyone hear any details yet on the train 'accident' last night? I'm hearing conflicting stories- WKVI is claiming teenager and South Bend says 65 yr old woman?
Wkvi is breaking in with the confirmed details as this is typed.
I have a question, how do we let you know of an up coming event? One the public would be interested in?
Please email all of your upcoming events to lou@wkvi.com. Thanks for writing.
I would love to thank everyone that attened Samuel R. Allen the 2nd's funeral last friday it meant alot the family. it was a hard time for us but seeing every one there. we knew how much he was really loved by all that knew him THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
I do not live in your area full time but I have to pay taxes to your school system anyway. Well I am not happly to hear that you want to encourage people from other areas to send their school age children here. I am sick of getting my property tax bill and 95 percent goes to the dam school system. When will the schools every have enough money? Stop encouraging other people to come here and possibly increasing my taxes even more
Dam is a device to hold back water in a river. Damn is a swear word. At the very least use the language correctly. I for one am glad you do not live here full time. We have enough illiteracy in Starke County without the likes of you decrying what is spent on education in our community, which it appears from your writings that you could use some. And by the way I do believe in free speech any your right to state your opinion in public with only one stipulation. If you got the guts to say it in public, have the guts to sign your name to your words.

I'm curious why now that school is back in session at Oregon-Davis, the Highway Department decided it was time to "chip and seal" the main roads leading in and out of the school. There seriously wasn't a better time in the last 2.5 months to do this?
I love the new website - I live in the southeastern portion of Pulaski County and I cannot get your radio station clearly on my radio on a regular basis. I too, would be interested in an internet feed to listen live. I also like the local sports score section, please keep it up to date as I checked it this morning and there were no scores listed.
Thanks for a GREAT local radio station!
Where are the scores from the weekend games? If you have a sports section you need to post scores.
We are going to do that ASAP. Thanks for commenting.
Would it be possible for the Saturday sportsline show to be recorded? It would be nice to listen to the coaches online. Quite a few of us interested have to work Saturday mornings.
Thanks,
WKVI where were you for the Harvest Fest parade? It would've been nice to see the local radio station that has been a part of this community for many years, come out and be apart of this small town festival for the community. Which, looked as though they did pretty well this year!
Wkvi was present at the Harvest Fest. Kay Gudeman of Wkvi was announcing the parade and Ted Hayes was taking photos of the event which may be seen on Wkvi.com. Thanks for writing.
This chip and seal is crap.
How do you get back to the website from this blog?
Thanks for pointing the problem out with the discussion board. I believe we have the problem corrected.
Why doesn't the prosecuter just ask the sherrif? Don't they get along?
i really enjoy listening to your radio station. good job.
Maybe the prosecutor should ask the sheriff before she blames him.
Is the family sufering less now that he is in jail and how much did this cost us taxpayers.
To whoever it was that stole my vehical with my purse, laptop computer, and cash inside of it, over Labor Day weekend...Thanks alot. While everyone else was having cookouts and enjoying just being together, my family was in crisis, and did without. Just wanted you to know that your selfish act will not be forgotten. When you are caught, I will press charges and help the prosecution to the fullest. You will pay!!!
to Rae H ,,,sorry for your loss, hope u get your justice, people should learn to leave other people stuff alone, hope your struggle is easier...ill be praying for you and your family to get the justice u deserve,,,my heart goes out to u,,,GOD BLESS U!!!!
Good job WKVI!!! This is long overdue. What a great boost to the community. I love it!! Very user friendly and has all the info you need.. Keep up the good work..
I love this , GREAT JOB !!!! Please add Birthday list . It would be fun to show my kids that their birthday is on your site .
Does anyone know what is happening to Starke County Hospice and Home Health Services? Seems like as soon as Starke Memorial's lease was bought by LaPorte, the sign came down on the Home Health Building downtown, no one is there at the building at all, and people don't really know who they're supposed to call for services anymore. Seems pretty unfriendly. It's too bad about Hospice, since it took so long to get a great program like that up and running. Now it seems like it's just gone under. Anyone know?
Good Job
I would like to see what game is being brodcast on Wkvi LISTED A DAY AHEAD OF TIME.
Please go to the Sports tab on the WKVI.com home page and click on the WKVI Broadcast Schedule to see which games will be broadcast. Thanks for writing!
I was wondering why all the arrests are not on the list. I had family arrested on 9-15-09 and would really like to know what they are being charged for, however they are not listed. Do you pick and chose who to put on your list. They are still currently in the jail.
We publish whatever police reports are available in the public record on the day our reporter checks with the various police agencies. We do not pick and choose. The police report you are looking for evidently was not in the public record file at the time our reporter checked and will appear at a later date. Thanks for inquiring.
So sad to see the folks that operated the Bass Lake Beach and Campground during the 2006-2007 season are no longer there. They had that place incredibly busy bringing a lot of tourism to this county. They ALWAYS had something going on, i.e live entertainment, kids crafts, activities, contests, etc. The place was really cleaned up nicely, too, as far as weeds and grass, unlike now. Sure do miss those folks! They brought a lot of business to the lake and the community. I will not forget them.
Junk Car Ordinance in Knox Gets First Reading
The Knox City Council approved the first reading of the amended Outdoor Storage of Junk Vehicles ordinance.
...
This amended ordinance allows authorized officials to go onto private property to remove junk vehicles that are considered nuisances.
Private property? Really?
Well, I give. I've really been trying to figure out why someone might vote for these folks in the first place. At this point, I'm at a complete loss.
Starke county currently has the seventh highest unemployment rate in the state (13.7%). It's the worst of all of the counties in the Northwest portion of the state. Yet, the local city council is more concerned with the appearance of your lawn.
I think your new website is extremely informative and very easy to surf. It is a thumbs up for the community. A suggestion that I would like to make is if while we are reading the website we could hear the live broadcast that is playing at the time on WKVI.
Good job, but it sure would be nice to publish the new ordinances in Starke County, on line so people that work out of the county and do not get a paper would know about the changes.
Greetings from Indianapolis, and congratulations on your website. WELL DONE!!!
My daughter told me about it, and it is great to have this resource to check on family from afar, and what is happening in their neighborhood.
Sylvia
I think the teachers are out of their minds right now. I have always been a supporter of local public schools, but I think the selfishness they are showing at this critical time in our history, and with the local economy, as well as national economy being in the shape it is in, is deplorable. And, to wear BLACK on Fridays in PROTEST? Are they kidding me? They should all be ashamed of themselves to even consider doing such a thing. Doing it at School Board Meetings, or in some other forum is one thing, but to bring it right into the classroom is quite something else. What kind of message does it say to the students, people? What is says is that you're taking it out on them, and it is shameful. Get in another line of profession, but don't tell the students it's THEIR fault. I can see why people are turning to Home Schooling.
It would seem to be easier to check these comments frequently if the most recent post were at the top and not the bottom of all of the comments received. Is there any way to do that?
I don't believe that there's an option for pulling comments in a descending order. Honestly, it would be really difficult to follow any discussion in that format.
They probably need to add a new post to the blog like "Online Comments - October 2009" on a monthly basis to break up the list.
We have clock radio set on your station and truely miss the National Anthum at 4:30 Central. Has it been switched to another time

I must say I had my suspected that the male employees of the station were getting a little to involved in the BIG FISH STORY. Well, There must be an agency of the government that handles out of control Radio Announcers who mess with the nice people who tune in. So Fellows who do we write to protest, and of course Rev. Ed needs to pray as God will be dealing with him this fine April 1, 2010, the weather was so fine, you all can be forgiven but do not let your imaginations loose again, it might require a new law to cover such events and raising of taxes to fund your vacation in our jail.
While you were wasting time on the fish story, a lot of news escaped your attention, I guess we will just watch the television news. Perhaps you all would donate the lost time you was paid to a worthwhile charity, I am sure most any would be please to accept your money.
I always listen to WKVI and appreciate the announcers and the talented writers, esp. on April 1,so why couldn't you guys find new news or truthfully rearrange your stories so those of us blessed to listen each hour would not have to listen to the same stories each news hour of each day. Use your talents, guys, read more newspapers, internet stories and give us different truthful news throughout the day.All of us will thank you a lot!
Thanks for another great post on this program.
