Another vote for changing the news back to the half hour mark. Maybe you can add a poll on here so the listeners can vote on when they would like to hear the news?
1-19-13 Goodbye President Obama,
hello Sarah.
Proud to be a Tea Party Patriot
i think my man mitch should run for president. if you travel to some other states you will see how well indiana is run.
Certainly, Obama is a one term President. Especially after the coming Tsunami in November. However, Palin has a far less chance than Peyton Manning of becoming the next president. It will probably be a conservative Democrat, but not Bayh, who's popularity is fading. Likely to be someone we haven't heard of yet. The problem is that the media will pick him or her, sensationalize the pick, just like they did with Bill Clinton, and then by the time that it gets to us, the voters will be led to the voting booth like cattle lining up to get a hot branding iron stuck onto our hind quarter.
Mike Huckabee is still my favorite.
His fair tax stops all loop holes. Everyone is taxed on what they spend, the more you spend the more tax you pay. 0 tax on savings. Elegals, drug dealers, and even politician would pay tax. And the IRS would be gone. There would be no more corparate tax, cars would be $1000s cheap even health insurance would be cheaper.
No tax system would be perfect, but the new tax code could be 1 page.
Down side, all the poor tax attorneys would be out of a job.
Finally WKVI sounds like a real radio
station. Thank you for the breath of
fresh air. The music is great. I now
leave the station on all day.
If someone could peek through my window they would see a 45 year old
woman dancing with her vacuum cleaner. Tom, Lenny, Jerry, you guys are the greatest!
ran screaming from room with that image in mind, but have fun.
I read recently that before the market
fell apart GM had 160 plants in the
U.S. Toyota had 3.
Driving a foreign car?
Then stop whining.
Is there a reason why obituaries are now longer read. It seems the radio station has just gotten lazy. You give us news headlines and the tell us to go to the website for further details. Have you forgotten that now everyone has internet access. Please, please go back to the orginal news times or at least continue to read the news and obits completely.
I was traveling down Toto Road the other day, and I still wonder why there are not any lane lines painted on the road...simply painting these lines on the road could help drivers stay on their own side of the road and it would alleviate some of the tragic accidents that take place on a dangerous road.
Please change back to the news being read on the half hour mark.
I miss the 1/2 hour 6:30 a.m.news in the morning. I have very little time to listen to W.K.V.I radio and this slot keeps me in tune to what is happening in our area. The music is o.k. but I'd prefer news, and the usual slot topics during that time frame.
Anonymous
I miss the news at 6:30 am ET. It's the only time I can listen to the entire news broadcast. Also, if I'm not on the obits I know I have to go to work.
I don't know whether to call the fire department or the police. Either Ted's hair is on fire or someone is holding him at gun point at 6:00 a.m.
Instead of gently waking up, some woman started scaring me with the national news in 60 seconds, and my
hand was shaking. After Ted's 5 minutes I was so nervous that I pulled
the covers up over my head. I am going to propose legislation that local newsmen have to switch to decaf after the first gallon of Folgers.
People in a small town like their local news in understandable segments that can be digested like a bowl of oatmeal and a cup of hot
chocolate. Did you ever see an employee in the aisle at Baileys telling people "hurry it up now grandpa."
If I am half asleep tomorrow at 6:00 a.m. when that woman starts barking out her national news at 400 words per minute, and if I just happen to semi-consciously backhand anyone in my reach, I will let my attorney know that we will be employing the obnoxious radio defense, and I expect that a local jury will acquit me of all charges.
The Patient Listener.
What happened to my news at 4:30am, I listened to it every morning before I went to work. There are people who work all day and by the time we get home the local news is over. PLease ..Please put it back at 4:30am and let Tom do it. I enjoy listening to Tom early in the morning and Lenny was a great addition to your radio team...YOU GO LENNY!!! I miss the whole list of the obits too.
Have a great day.....M.Koch
Why the change in news times ?
So hard to listen to the news on the hour due to home and work schedules the half hour and at 12 and 5 were perfect for I believe alot of people. Talked to some that say they dont even turn on WKVI now....
I hate that the news is now on the top of the hour...please put it back in its regular spot...when things work well, keep them the same.
I've noticed news at the top of the hour, bottom of the hour. during the day on the top of the hour, sports in the newscasts. I can now listen all day and not just here and there. I leave the radio on all day now, where before it was just in the morning. Ted and Anita do a great job, Tom's morning show still great. WKVI is not just a 2 hour radio station.
was this mornings news at 5am the same as yesterdays? or was i having deja vue
Have recently heard the story on the Know High School swimming pool. I personally approached the schoolboard last year with a solution to opening the pool to the public as to make money for any repairs and costs of the pool. I personally helped out with fundraisers for the pool and swim team. It seems that there have been suggestions, but no one wants to listen. Put in front of the board over 300 names that were collected in a one week time period of community members that would like to see this pool open for public use. Local pools such as West Central have also laid out for me which was sent to the school board as to how their open swim works and she would even be willing to help our school set it up. So what is the problem?
I was thinking about making a donation yesterday for the Phoenix house, but then I heard some statistics and I stopped myself. Did I hear this right?
There are about 250 cases of family battery each year in this county. In about the last 8 years 14 women have stayed at Phoenix house. So that would be 14 out of 2,000 women. That is 0.07%. Then I thought I heard that som of the 14 went back their man. Iam glad that it helped some but should we think about using our money to hire a family battery officer or another prosecuter in stead? just asking. It seems as though we have contributed a lot of money in the past just to help 14 women. This grant we are after does it involve our tax money? Maybe I didn't hear that right. Any other listeners here what I thought I heard? Mary R.
You are right on domestic violence. Amen something needs to be done. Election time is around the corner
Have you heard the Tea Party Patriots
are forming in Starke County.
We're going to keep them honest in the upcoming elections.
No candidates will be able to duck our
questioning.
I am really liking the changes. I have found myself listening more often for the music during my drive home. Friday you played U2, Train, and, The Script. It was nice to hear a bunch of modern stuff all together!
Now less often do I just listen to the news and then switch.
Echoing the previous post, the music might be the best that can be found on the air. WKVI has arrived.
Linda Gutierez needs to get the mssg. out to Starke Co. that there is an organized TEA PARTY in their area..I'm from Knox but live down state now...my family there does not seem to know about this. There are good fiscal conservatives running against Sen. Bayh...Richard Beheny is one of these...I have heard him speak. We the Hoosiers...are canvassing and getting out the mssg. to voters..Make sure that you get to the BALLOT BOX in May...together we are strong!
Like the new format.. Just wish the news was back on the half hour mark, not just a update of the news.
the tea party will help if,
they do not have a 3rd party.
if they run a 3rd person they hurt mainly the republicans.
if they run, run as a democrat.
republicans should plan ahead and vote as democrats in primaries, then run as a democrat but serve as a republican
my grand father was a democrat
his platform
1. work hard
2. fend for yourself
3. trust in god
4. limit the government
5. value life
i used to tell him he was really a republican, he would tell me to hush-up
Sarah Palin has No chance of ever becoming president anyone that would even think of voting for her must be insane. She did not even know there is a north and south Korea she has no clue of anything other than playing a flute. How do you quit after being elected and ever thank you will be taken seriou again. If she is all Republicans got for 2012 they have got to be kidding
In August the state purchased a new 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV to chauffeur the governor as he travels around the state. The cost: $51,865.
It replaced a 2008 Chevy Tahoe with 103,00 miles on it.
When asked about the cost Indiana State Police Major Carlos Pettiford was reported to have said, "We don't want the governor to be broke down at 2 o'clock in the morning."
Has the major checked to see if there's a recall?
Maybe they should have stayed with the Tahoe.
I agree with most of the posts. Having the news on at the half hour and reading the full obituaries during the news would be great. Not everyone has access to a computer or are able to listen to the radio at noon.
I find myself looking at your discussion page every morning before
my coffee and Post Tribune. Here was an interesting "quickly" I chuckled over. Thought other readers might find it interesting too.
As a WWIIvet, I have always wondered how Japan would get even. Now I know. They would sell Toyotas with nonworking brakes to foolish Americans. P.S. GM, Ford, and Chrysler still makes cars that stop. a north judson reader. Keep up the good work.
How is it that today, 2-11-10, it's 5 degrees out, Starke Co. has declared a Level @ Weather Emergency, and yet the school system has not done ANYTHING, or at least not yet, for we all know how Knox School's wait til the last minute, to decide on doing something to insure a bit of safety for the travelers? These roads are solid ice & if someone gets stuck, they're going to freeze. Use some wisdom & common sense, "whomever" you are that makes these decisions.
Whomever makes the decision over school cancellations or delays has no common sence and probably lives in town and can walk to school
i drive a school bus, the roads were plowed real early today(2/11), the plow drivers have been doing a great job. i made it to school on time. it's hard to believe but some of the kids only food they get to eat is the breakfast and lunch at school, so there is more to calling off school than just the snow. i think the school made a good call not having school yesterday and a good call today for having school and at regular time.
thanks
Really liking the new music mix, thanks for the changes. Hearing some comments from some businesses about the changes to the obituaries. Seems they would like them back in the mornings, especially with all the details. That seems to be when those businesses who have an interest in the obituaries (florists in particular) have the opportunity to listen. Thanks for the consideration and keep up the good work.
I think the only school system that does a GOOD job with the cancellations and delays due to the weather is KNOX. Yesterday I think was necessary for a cancellation simply due to the fact of the blowing and drifting- plus in the AM, we had the lake effect band over the area. Today, people need to stop whining. We live in northern Indiana.. we're bound to see chilly temps.. yes, there was ice on 35 this morning.. however if you simply leave a few mins early and slow down your commute, you are completely fine to drive. There wasn't any wind to pull you into the oncoming traffic.
The parents and kids will be complaining later in the next few months when they have to go into summer to make up days because the school cried wolf and cancelled the night before.. not even knowing what to expect the next morning.
So again, good job knox schools.
Tea Party Patriot have big plans..The ex-congressmen from Texas, listen to him, Cut the spending, do away with Medicare and pay off the debt and pay for these two wars, out source the Social Security. and lower the tax rate again on the people who are making the big bucks. Sooooo all you folks making 3 or 4 hundred thousands per year will get another break like when the rate was lowered from 52%, now if you are making 372,960 now you are in the 35% rate. If you are making $100,000 you are paying $22,000. That will not be lower, have to get up in the higher tea Party bracket like where the Texan is.
The U.S. Census Bureau is hiring for the 2010 Census. These temporary, part-time jobs offer good pay, flexible evening and weekend hours, and the chance to work near home. Call 1-866-861-2010 or visit www.2010censusjobs.gov.
I now have a favorite WKVI broadcaster. Her name is Linda.
Our Tea Party gal has been on the mark all week. She didn't go far
enough though when she was talking about Sarah Palin. Let's make it Palin for President, and Glen Beck for Vice President. They'd shake up Washington, and they'd be a voice for common sense solutions to all of our problems.
Please make Linda a regular. She's
a fresh voice on the new WKVI.
YOU GO GIRL!
Why can't we, as communities, start up Non-For Profit Insurance Co-ops, that work directly with Local Dr.'s & Local Hospitals, AND CUT OUT ALL THE MIDDLE MEN WHO ARE CAUSING THE SKY-ROCKETING RATES FOR PROFITS? Hospitals/Dr.'s would love the direct communication, we wouldn't have Shareholder Boards, big fancy office buildings around Indy to support. This is a Great Alternative to rising Insurance costs, to people who can't get Insurance & to Obama's Socialist Option. It is being done w/ great success. And open State Borders for Insurance Co's to compete. There's so many great options, it's just Insurance Co's don't want change, they want huge profits paid for by taxpayers. Knox resident.
Dear Tea Party People,
The absolute best hope that Obama has for a second term is Sarah Palin for President. Run Glen Beck for Vice President and it will be a landslide of epic porportions for Obama. We are not talking about whether you like what they say on a talk show. This is the presidency of America. And while Obama wasn't qualified for the position, he at least spent some time in the U.S. Senate. Palin and Beck have never been elected to national office, nor are they qualified. Tea Party people should be skeptical of any national media, yet these two are nothing more that popular figures because of the national media. Let's get serious. The American people want a president to reverse us from this runaway tax and spend, so why don't we select someone who is actually electable. We've got all of the natural citizens of America, over the age of 35, to choose from. Linda, let's choose wisely.
It would be great if Sen Bayhs thank you speech was read by Starke County folks. He informed the public why he has no love for the congress and about working with the (R)s and then they would not vote for the law which would help the working folks and breaks for the small companies.
Jack lynch,
what else was in the law? Maybe something that was worth not voting on? What do you think? In all seriousness.
I am no expert but I do know that these elected officials like to add things into bills that really have no business being there. I am not taking sides just trying to provoke thought to maybe learn something.
You mean to tell us that Our Leaders do NOT have any agenda for the community that would necessitate GRANTS? UNREAL! These kids have NOTHING! A Community Center is NOT a dance hall you rent out. It's a place with a gym, b-ball court, walking track, pool, etc. It doesn't need the YMCA name, but can't we build & operate ourselves? YES, NO PUBLIC POOL! Look @ Winamac, @ least they have something. And our school pool is so outdated & in need of expansion, yet it's not even open to the public(i.e. open swim when I was young). This community seems to care SO LITTLE for it's youth, no wonder why PRIDE is a hard commodity around here, because we've done little for our community to be proud of. So we CHALLENGE OUR LEADERS, DO SOMETHING "GREAT"!, something that will benefit families for generations. So go back and CHECK YOUR LIST AGAIN! Lifelong Knoxer
Good Job Oscar,
From what I understand you have been wanting this training done for some time now. This incident should loosen any friction you had in the past to get the proper training our county officers need. It is a shame that it took something like this to bring it to light.
It's amazing to me that people are complaining about Socialism in Starke County, have you taken a look around lately? I am willing to wager that Starke County is almost the top county in the state when it comes to using "socialist programs". Maybe you should try to become educated before spouting off, you probably won't though. After all, you are a Conservative. Fox News gives me all the info I need on "Conservative Logic"
Most of these pet projects everyone complains about are actually projects that benefit our communities. Whether it be roads or bridges or various other help needed to improve areas. Many times the state is so low on money because they are so interested in cutting funds that someone has to step up and get the funding from elsewhere. I would be pretty proud of my senator if he went to Washington and put in a pork barrel spending measure if it were going to benefit our area somehow, at least it shows he or she is trying to bridge the gap and give us what we need. As far as spending goes, if you think a budget surplus is going to be beneficial, think again. Ask an economist about having a deficit sometime and see if they tell you it's bad, if they do they aren't very smart. A deficit is a necessity for a good economy, as backwards as that might sound. We are spending a lot NOW, but after 8 years of cutting taxes WHILE spending money on a war (which is where the majority of the money went) we are falling behind everywhere else. Someone had to do this, if Obama loooks like a bad guy for it, oh well. The last I heard, the stimulus stopped unemployment and last month unemployment went down. If we had continued the same approach and left the free market to go haywire and cut taxes on the rich and essentially continued to do nothing like we were before we would be in the same boat several other nations are in. It has been proven that on average when a recession is in place and nothing is done about it and the free market is allowed to correct itself it takes on average 4 YEARS for unemployment to stop rising. Look at the facts and quit listening to the pundit blowhards on Faux News.
My ex-boyfriend Ernie Qualls {past away on December 17,2009}, had a bird just like the one that you guys has on your website. His birds name is JuJu. JuJu is a male millitary micall. HIs mom is selling JuJu for $1,600, cash. Her name is Florence Martin. The number to contact her about the bird is 1-574-216-8162, or you can go and see the bird anytime at 201 W. Locust Dr. Knox, In 46534.
It was an interesting story about the man with all of the weapons, but at the beginning of story, it might have helped to explain just why the man was being served a warrant. Now the stories continue about it, but what did the police want him for in the first place. Was it a warrant for an important issure? Surely it could have given the policemen a clue if the situation could become dangerous. If it is not legal to give an answer to this question, then is it legal to keep reporting on the case which could make it difficult to find a jury that has not heard about it in the future.
Why have you changed the format of the radio? You have made it difficult for those without access to the internet or a daily newspaper, both are expensive in today's economy and people could drop both but still need to know the funeral arrangement for friends who have passed away in the morning. Lots of people get busy and do not have the time to listen for it at noon. Why not cut down on other things and tell the complete funeral arrangements once in the morning.
Has the advertising dollars dried up to cover the funeral arrangements, just announcing what funeral home is doing them--only does a half service to your community of dedicated listeners who appreciate your radio broadcasts. Newspapers have started to charge to run obits, so perhaps you could get into that market and make more money for your station. Please reconsider going back and changing this situation, thanks for years of good service.
I am an early morning riser. I always turn WKVI on first thing. I have not been hearing the National Anthem at 4:30am when the station signs on with Tom Belcher. Is there a reason that we are not hearing the National Anthem? Please don't tell me it is to be politically correct!
I would like the TP people to know that I have the upmost confidence in Sarah Palin.
She has had a dramatic effect on our country.
Example: She really helped the TV ratings of SNL.
Hearing the TP people speak I believe they can contribute as well.
The average American citizen realizes it will take more than a year to correct the debacle W bestowed upon our country.
Sarah makes me want to go to Alaska to hunt beaver.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tom and his family in the loss of their mother.
To the person that didn't give his name I failed to thank him if he has been a supporter in making STARKE County a better place to raise a family and putting people to work. Noone has told me you have to be a (D) or and (R)to make things better. In spite of the habitial bitchers there are several in Starke County that will continue the hard work to make it better.
Does "high school sports" mean ALL high school sports or only those that matter in the eyes of someone at your station? You have neglected to give coverage to a young man who is not only an excellent wrestler but an example to the younger wrestlers in our area. Thank you Danny Bradley, you have made us proud!!!
WKVI Sports has been happy to follow the success of area wrestlers throughout the State Wrestling Tournament, from the 26 wrestlers from 5 different schools who advanced to Regional action to the 2 local wrestlers who advanced to State competition last weekend.
We previewed the Regional, Semi-State and State competition on our Friday "Sports check" reports and reported on the Friday night State competition during our basketball broadcast as well as on our early Saturday "Sports checks" with Harold Welter. We reported on Danny Bradley's successes Saturday morning during our Regional basketball broadcast and later during regular programming early Saturday afternoon. We were the first to report Danny's efforts in his Championship match on Saturday night during our Regional basketball coverage. In addition, area wrestlers have been regularly recognized on the Thursday night "Sports Talk with Nathan Welter" (aired at 6:00 pm) and Danny Bradley was recognized as our "Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week" on January 23rd as was our other State Finalist, Matt Hurford of Culver, on Feb. 6th. We strive to cover as many athletes in our area as possible and we encourage area fans to provide us with information about those we may have missed. You can call us at 772-6241 or e-mail us at sports@wkvi.com.
iminst joe hospital for for cancer of blatter and postrate there radios wont pick up wkvi thanks for the web they have wifi glad i brought my lap top good old wkvi
Has anyone noticed that the Cook POlitical Report, one of the most respected and accurate political forecasting sources, has the 2nd District of Indiana listed as safe Democrat but with an * next to Joe Donnelly's name that says "possible retirement"?
Why was there at least 3 interviews with Democrats running in Starke County who signed up last week and non with the Republicans on Monday? Seems to have been more Democrats over the past weeks then Republicans being interviewed. Shouldn't the radio station give equal time? Will you be interviewing Republicans or will the Liberal media be the ones in control?
So many people think rails to trails is only bringing positives to the county. There are negatives in every project. They say it wont cost the county any funds. What happens if law enforcement is needed? There will be miles of road police cant even get to. Does our county have the capacity to respond to calls along the trail. Check out rails to trails pros and cons. At least look at what does happen on these trails in other communities. Not to mention the land that has been stolen from hard working farmers. The DNR and the people who implement these trails on the merit of being good for the environment and nature are complete hypocrits. How can miles of fresh asphalt not contribute to
"global warming"? Isnt is better for people to walk or ride a bike out of their garage instead of driving a car to a trail. To you hunters,do you want your tag dollars or environmental plate dollars taking away habitat instead of improving it? Bad things come with trails as well as good take a look for yourself. Just think a child molester isnt allowed within 100 feet of your school but he may be passing you on the trail and you dont know. This trail will let him in your back yard. All that those of us who live along the trail ask is that you look at both sides before jumping on the band wagon. Join the NRA and protect your 2nd amendment rights.
My deepest sympathies to Tom Belcher on the passing of his mother. What a great radio personality. I did not know her, and I do not know Tom personally, except for my daily attempts at the radio contests, and it almost feels like I lost a family member. Our hearts and thoughts are with you and your family at this time Tom. We truly feel for you. God Bless.
Dana Spiewak
Here's a funny thought. Ever notice when you combine the words "The IRS"
it spells the word "theirs" ?
Irony, I tell you. LOL
My deepest thoughts and prayers are with you Tom and your family on the loss of your dear mother. We, your radio family listeners, are glad to have you back. Lenny did a fine job taking care of business when you were away but its really good to have you back "home" again. Thank you Tom for keeping your morning family listeners on the right track. Who needs a clock!
I just want to send out a big public THANKS to Miller's Auto (Knox) for going above and beyond to help me out. What a GREAT small town business, I hope any who read this remember them in the future, and know that they are truly a business w/a heart and true community spirit!!!!THANK YOU!!!
Though I do like much of the new WKVI format - I must echo the sentiment that other's are saying. My alarm clock sounds at 4:30 am and I miss the National Anthem. I also miss Tom in the morning giving me the update of what is going on in my community. I wake up a little earlier than needed just to have the opportunity to hear what is happening in OUR town. Please bring this back!
Tom... my condolences to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Amanda

What was the final results of the State Audit on the $864000.00 missing dollars, from "Major-Moves" that was "EAR-MARKED" for road repairs. How could this much money be lost in a small county like Starke.
lets predict who will replace mr milo.

This chart is from an article in the Indianapolis Star on February 18, 2010, about the County Health Rankings for Indiana. Starke is next to last in the entire state. What does that say about our local health care and our individual failure to take care of our bodies?

Someone complained about the school pool not being open to the public. Well after this coming Monday night board meeting at he high school, there will not be a pool for the students either.
AJ Gappa wants to close it to save money. A million dollars to repair a ceiling, give me a break.
Just another thing Knox is throwing out of schools, first it was welding, then all shop classes.
Most of Knox's students are hands on learners and need those kinds of classes to include auto shop. If you look more go into the work fields than college.
But, not they can drown too as they won't be taught how to swim,
Attend the meeting March 1 6:30 and express you opinion.
My prediction on who they will appoint to replace Milo would be Jennifer Davis.
if our country wasnt in this shape thanks to george bush no one else u would see that president obama is doing well with what he has been given. things are not perfect but headed in right direction. but people cant see past his color . if mc cain would have gotten in there would have been no progess just people living in bushvills
