Hats off to you, Ted Hayes! What a totally fantastic story about Alice Kay! She is more that just a phenomenal lady, but she was what I remember most about living in Knox, In. Always walking here and there, and always looking like million bucks, with matching earings, and a smile! My kids love her, because she is as tall as they are! Thanks for using the picture of my daughter Nora and Alice, too cute!

I WAS READING ABOUT THE GUY WITH THE CORD ACROSS TOTO ROAD, SHOULDNT THE COUNTY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT SINCE IT IS A COUNTY ROAD, I MEAN HOW SAFE IS THAT. WHAT IF A KID ON A MOPED OR A PERSON ON A MOTORCYCLE JUST HAPPEN TO HAVE THAT CORD COME UP ON HIM AND GET CAUGHT IN THE WHEEL AND CAUSED THEM TO WRECK, I THINK THAT THE COUNTY COULD BE SUED OVER THAT SINCE THEY ARE LETTING IT STAY ACROSS THE COUNTY ROAD. OR EVEN WHAT IF IT WAS RAINING OUT AND THAT CORD WAS STANDING IN A PUDDLE OF WATER AND WITH THE CARS RUNNING ACROSS THAT CORD I AM SURE IT HAS DAMAGED IT SUM, AND LETS SAY A KID WALKS THROUGH THE PUDDLE AND IT ELECTICUTES HIM I BELIEVE THE COUNTY WOULD ALSO BE LIABLE FOR LETTING THIS GO ON, I KNOW THE SCHOOL BUS DROP KIDS OFF RIGHT THERE. I KNOW THE COUNTY HAS BEEN INFORMED ABOUT THIS AND THERE IT STILL IS, WHATS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEBODY TO GET INJURED OR DIE.

That is what it usually takes for them to do something about anything and then that depends on what your name is. That is also a good way to start a house fire to much amperage through the cord will produce a lot of heat especially if it is not hooked to a secondary breaker.

When is the town wide yard sale in Knox?

Anonymous said...

KAY, the story, yes I remember the store, it was where the bakery is now. I don"t recall the name you used for the store alls I recall is that it was kaylos clothing, That goes back some years when napa auto was right around the corner. I had went ther several times to look and see if this coat I wanted was on sale, and they had an outside sale with some sort ofn drawings, and beleive it or not I won the coat, Yes as I recall there was City news agency catty corner, Up on main was falveys clothes shop, greens drugs, The movie house but not where it is now. I wish I had taken a picture of town but I didnt, the ben franklin store the other 5 and 10 store I believe schultz, cooks jewelery, man a lot can change before you know it.

Anonymous said...

I don't know when the town wide yard sale is, but the ones participating are probably the ones needing money for their taxes. It probably won't be long before the whole town is for sale if it is not already. You never know with the people running it, oh well around here it won't be the first time we've been sold out.

I have been pondering on an idea that may seem far fetched to some, it is just a thought and I would like to put it out there and see what others think of it. it's not
like I can implement it anyway, it is just a thought. I got this thought from a statement on the news, TO BIG TO FAIL, that is what they said and they are probably right.WHAT IF EACH STATE ONLY BUYS WHAT IS PRODUCED IN THAT STATE, EXCEPT THINGS THAT THE STATE CAN;T BECAUSE OF RESOURCES. IT WOULD BREAK UP THE GIANT COMPANIES AS A WHOLE AND IF THEY WANTED TO SELL THEIR GOODS THEY WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A FACTORY WITHIN THAT STATE, THINK OF ALL THE NEW JOBS BUILDING THE SHOPS, THE OPPORTUNITIES THERE FOR EVERY KIND OF JOB AVAILABLE. AND LOOK AT WAL-MART THEY ARE TO BIG TO FAIL, THEY ARE REALLY THGROUGH ESTABLISHING THEIR NAME, AND NOW THAT THEY ARE LOCATED ALL OVER THE WORLD THEY ARE PROGRESSING TO THE POINT THEY WILL BE 1 IN EVERY COUNTY. I THINK I HAVE WROTE ENOUGH BEFORE SOMEONE THINKS I AM INSANE, BUT REALLY THINK ABOUT IT. THE COUNTIES COULD EVEN JOIN FORCES AND GO TO LIKE 20 REGIONS GOVERNMENT INSTEAD OF 92, THINK IT OVER AND GIVE ME YOUR POINT OF VIEW.

RE; Hamlet from April comments, I have written a couple of different letters to some federal agencies, but I have made about 100 copies of each to mail to more agencies and I am going to mail them all tomorrow morning when I go to South Bend, and then I am going to wait about a week and I am going to do it again. I kind of grew up around Hamlet, talked to DR.Lienbach a lot and kept in touch with him when he went to La porte county. His thoughts were very similar to what I feel today, only difference is I am not a doctor and have plenty of time to get this done. hopefully I can. I do have a lot of information and pictures I would really like for some of the politicians to see, most of them are not very good because I did not use flash. But they can still be made out. I will be back.

The townwide yard sale is May 15. The WKVI homepage has a link to a community calendar that has all kinds of events listed. You might want to check it out.

Yes sir them were the days they are gone never to return. Lets see what I remember, on 35 there was greens realty, citgo station, mcgrath realty, pops gas station across from binkleys, phillips 66, hooks drugs, ernies, zingo,Alts discount behind or where the 66 station is now, coles resale shop on 8, mccurstys music, Ribordy drugs where the dollar store is now with 5 star behind it, western auto out at 35 and toto road, bob lockes junk yard across the road, back where napa is now was i.g.a., next to that marks junk joint, across from that marys resterant, where 5 star is was fallows airport, back bto lake street, there was the realtor by the corner, the dentist, goldings optical, blues restaurant, the sandwich shop by the alley, a jewelery store across from that. united telephone service, bobs tap, blues tap, out by transit mix there was the taco shop and Metal prefabricators and dia tech industries and kaye technology, these 3 operated where the boats are now, man there is a lot of ways knox has really went downhill.

Anonymous said...

I was sort of scouting around the internet, under knox, then I went to what I think is the most neatest site knox, county, kentucky, there web site has all yhe ceneteries on it along with all the graves in that cemetery with photos of each grave site. there may be others like it but it is unique. I know a lot of people around here are from kentucky and may have been from that county or have others that were. If anybody knows how to go about doing a site like that forstarke county I would appreciate hearing about it. very nice thinking kentuckians.

I was reading about family fun night I am taking my son there I am really looking foward to it. I think the time is to short. I was told of some of the games and prizes they are having sounds great, it least it is not cheap little prizes like just candy. I saw the comment on how $15 is to much, my question to that person is define cheap have you been shopping around everything has went up. $15 is a deal and since about half the money is going to prizes its not like the school is ripping you off. Our kids will benfit from this and will have something to show for there money. And charging for food is fine since it is little ceasers pizza unlike fun night where it was school pizza, they could of did that but you know the little ceaser idea was great its different than the usual. Great job knox elem great fundraiser and thanks for not using tax money for the sign, i hope you reach your goal. Does any one know if you can buy additional wrist bands at the door i want to bring my niece as well?

Someone please explain this to me: Gas in Plymouth is $2.84 at Walmart. At the truck stop on 30 it's $2.87. SB and Mishawaka have gas for $2.85 to $2.88, and up towards Westville and Michigan City, it's $2.85 to $2.87. But GAS IN KNOX IS $2.97!! Sounds like price fixing to me. How else can this be explained?

Anonymous said...

The reason that gas is so high in Knox is they want to make more money. Just like when Christmes time comes there will be ads posted buy in your county so that it benefits, well why do I want to pay 10-60% more for the same article. Go to Marshall county or Porter county, they are cheaper and at least they have the people in power to put that money to work for their county.

Anonymous said...

North Judson is regularly 10 cents higher than Knox. This time of year however, Knox is higher than normal and Judson is every now and then cheaper. The reason? Those Chicago people, who spend their money and think they own the town! See even at the hiked up price it is still very much lower than the price of gas in Chicago! Again Chicago people I say, be nice to the locals or just go away!

Anonymous said...

I want to give kudos to the local candidates for the timely manner in which they removed their signs after the recent election. They all did a much better job than the national and atate candidates. Good job!!!!

To the people cutting down the people of Illinois. I hope you have been a lifelong resident there at the lake, my feelings do not distinquish between indiana and illinois people for the simple fact that My grandkids and I have asked several Indiana residents at the lake for permission to fish and we got the snobbiest remarks from the permanent people there more than from the Illinois people, so you want respect, get it yourself and stop complaining about others when you people do the same. You even were part of the group that wanted to do away with the other residents even having access to the lake. so until you get the people of the lake to show some kind of "friendship" to the rest of us in the county then ask for our sympathy. all the lake uses tax money to plow the roads and maintain them just as the rest of us. I personally can't see why any person can't have access to the lake on a friendly basis other than the cubby holes that they have now for the public.

Anonymous said...

To the person asking about gas prices around here, have you checked prices ofanything ekse, you will nfind you think you are getting gouged on gas, well just don't bend over.

Anonymous said...

Knox or Sterke county sure could use less government for sure. You go to the courthouse and open up the doors and you hear conversation about a lot of things and they will let you stand there until they are done, then ask if they can help you.If you take any paperwork there they will look at it and tell you it is wrong, then you ask what is wrong and they tell you I can't give any legal advice, I thought they were there to helpn you or do something other than sit there.

Anonymous said...

Far fetched idea, anything would be better and cheaper than what we are doing now and I can see where that would keep the big companies in check and have to benefit the state by going with their tax laws and so forth. Great idea.

Anonymous said...

WKVI, THANKS FOR HAVING A FORUM WHERE YOU CAN FREELY EXPRESS YOUR OPINION TO THE PEOPLE AND AT THE SAME TIME YOU GET TO HEAR AND TAKE THEIR OPINION INTO ACCOUNT, EVEN THOUGH I IMAGINE THAT THEIR ARE A LOT OF VRESTRICTIONS THAT YOU HAVE. THANKS

I took a look at that Knox county Kentucky website on their cemeteries. I am from there and I found 4 sites where my people are buried and never knew that until now. I don't know how you would get that started here, if the county would even help you or even let you do that. They are funny around here. If it does not put a feather or money in these peoples pockets you probably can not do it. That would take a lot of time and probably some funding. I am willing to donate to this as long as it goes for this and not in someones pockets.

Anonymous said...

The main reason they removed their signs is to keep them out of the weather and for reuse, not to satisify the county people.

Anonymous said...

Cemeteries, that site is a wonderful idea at that. aai checked 6 different counties in different states and that is the best. I did not check Starke county. There should be someone over the site, maybe ask them, and whoever does it they will be spending a lot of time on it. The films and camera needs all the runnung around researching the graves and records all are going to cost money. I myself would donate to this bcause.

Anonymous said...

Donating for the info on the graveyards.... that is a great idea to do that I am from Kentucky also... I can see where that is a good idea for our future generations but do you think this county will let you use there site. Maybe make your own and for the person going to look at starke county site you have a suprise coming, not worth it not at all.

Lake resident, I do not live at the lake. But unfortunatley I am effected by their rudeness in Knox. It is unfair to label someone because of where they are from. However, the air that the majority of the city people carry is not welcome around here. We have our jerks as well but I have seen first hand how they expect local stores to wait on their every need , I have seen waitresses in tears because of the rudeness and total lack of respect from a lady from Illinois, that thought she wasnt taken care of well enough. I guess what I mean to say is there are 2 different cultures involved here and when you come to ours adjust yourself we dont need the arrogance. If you are one of the people that are nice I am happy to have you around if not then I dont need you around.

Anonymous said...

I'm from Illinois and I'll be as arrogant as I want to be. You people are lucky that I am hear.

I would like to know how 2 states, Illinois and Indiana, who are supossed to be broke come up with money to build this Illiana Expressway. I would say this reminds me of Sysco.

Anonymous said...

goes to show you haw smart the Illinois people are they can not even pick out the correct here, hear to use, bunch of hippocrites.

Anonymous said...

why does Illinois or Indiana have to have money for? There is another set of tax laws being worked on as I write this. Just for the Illiana way and make all you morons sick because it is decided to make progress.

Anonymous said...

I think the new Illinois highway should end at bass lake that is as far as the illinoisians need to go with an exit direct to Knox so they have adirect shot to bring down there booze, dope and wonderful cildren to teach the knoxians to do better by them, why not our politicians do.

Anonymous said...

That story the guy wrote about buying products if they were made in your own state, that sounds better all the time if it means a fence between Illinois and Indiana, No seriously I really meant it you are both idiots

I MISS THE GAS STATION AT TOTO ROAD AND 35 THEY ALWAYS HAD CHEAPER GAS AND PUMPED IT. THEY SAID THEY WERE MAKING NO MONEY THEY NEED TO RE OPEN THE GAS BUT DONT PUMP IT FOR YOU THAT WOULD BE CHEAPER FOR THEM, PLUS YOU WOULD HAVE TO GO INSIDE TO PAY WHERE YOU MAY SPEND MORE MONEY. I WISH THE OWNERS WOULD SELL GAS AGAIN. I AM TIRED OF ALL THE PERMITS YOU NEED TO DO ANYTHING IN THIS COUNTY JUST ANOTHER SCAM TO GET YOU TO PAY MORE. I LIKE THE POST ON HERE ABOUT THE PERSON WHO SAID WE SHOULD DROP ALL OF OUR PRICES AND TAXES TO GET PEOPLE TO MOVE HERE AND SPEND MONEY.

GREAT JOB COACH SKELLY WITH THE VOLLYBALL PROGRAM ITS NICE TO SEE A COACH CARE SO MUCH ABOUT THE KIDS AND WANT THEM TO GET BETTER. I AM EXCITED FOR THE SUMMER SESSIONS TO START WITH ALL OF THESE SCHOOLS FOR THESE KIDS TO PLAY ITS GREAT. I AM DISSAPOINTED WITH ONE OF THE FEMALE COACHES YOU HAVE HELPING, SHES A TERRIBLE COACH THE SAD THING IS MY DAUGHTER REALLY WANTS TO PLAY BUT I AM NOT SURE IF I AM GOING TO LET HER IN FEAR THAT SHE WILL GET HER AS A COACH. SOME COACHES ARE IN IT FOR THE WRONG REASONS. YOU CANNOT REVOLVE YOUR TEAM AROUND ONE PERSON (DAUGHTER). UNDECIDE IF MY DAUGHTER WILL PLAY OR NOT KNOW.

Drugs are around here anyway. Yes, we dont need more brought out but either way they are "here". The only issue I have is the "You owe me cause I'm HERE" mentality. Nobody is HERE to take the verbal abuse of anyone else. Especially someone from out of our area! We dont care if you come out to the lake, shop in our stores, or purchase our produce. If you cannot appreciate the local people and what we do, then we don't want your money! Moral ground will always be higher than the almighty dollar! Oh.... and by the way Quit polluting our land. If I see one more Illinois plated vehicle throw crap out their window on SR 35 I think I will freak out!! It is like almost every time I am behind one.... out comes some kind of trash!! Carelessness and disrespectful!!!

After reading the earlier post bringing up Sysco, I see they're finally painting the new water tower. Just wondering if it will ever have any water in it? We've been waiting for years after the announcement that this huge facility was coming to Starke County and hundreds of jobs would be created. My question is will there ever be a Sysco plant built in Starke County and if so when? The county has lived up to it's end of the bargain and has the infrastructure in place. Now what will happen when the project doesn't take place? The only time you hear this subject reported on is when they announce another delay in the start of the project. Hopefully they will break ground this summer and we can get some much needed jobs.

Anonymous said...

Yes the election signs were picked up in a timely manner. Some people picked up other signs for people that were in their towns and the same was done by other people. So what if they use them again in the fall. That will save them some money in the process. Nothing wrong with saving money. Some signs were damaged by others, and some by the weather. Not all signs can be used again. But the one's that can, so be it.

Anonymous said...

If everyone is so upset with the people from Illinois why was there such a push for us to be on Central Time like them?

Anonymous said...

Sysco, I don't know where you think you are but Sysco may have a lot of people there but I bet it is mostly the truck drivers that are working there that they already have under their employment already, just as their other facilities, so I wouldn't look forward to a lot of people from the area to obtain work. Besides most of them don't really want a job anyways.

Anonymous said...

The time zone thing, that was so the politicians here could be home before dark with their family and so the dot could fine the truck drivers for the hour on their log books. No really the main reason is that it is better for us... says the ones that voted it in place, besides that this way when people leave illinois they are on the same time because they don't know what time of day it is anyways.

Here we go again someone doesn't like the coach, my son was on the football team and I would go there and drop him off and then I was told I should take an interest in the sports, the coaches could not keepn the parents off the field and other kids that tackled their kids, I told the coaches if they can't keep the parents off the field then my son quit. He quit. now we have a parent that doesn't like the one lady coach and by putting in this forum, she hopes to get her way, don't like the rules or because your child can't have the coach you want her to have, I really feel sorry for you, but go home and take her with you. rules are rules and if she does stay I already have her coach in mind. HEHEHE

Anonymous said...

Drugs may be here, you are kidding right, well you get better drugs from Illinois and the price is always right. No messing around just pay and go.

Anonymous said...

I feel coach skelly did a great job on choosing coaches for vollyball this summer. My daughter likes all the coaches, and each one of them he picked are very good with kids and coaching them. The two new coaches he had picked it least care about these kids, i know both of them they both coached my kids great and my daughter liked them, and they care about a program and want to get it better. I know these two individuals very well and they both are very good people, and care about how these kids do. I think I know who said this negative comment and to her aunt just because your niece did not get to play A team dont blame the coaches. I dont want to mention names on here but this lady had one of these coaches in soccer and did not like him and now in basketball she does not like the woman coach. Well next time when these kids get signed up check the box to help, just dont complain about it. These 2 coaches coach there daughters very well and it takes a lot to be a coach, they do not do it for the money, and you could not pay me enough to coach and have to put up with complaining parents or AUNTS. Cant wait for summer volleyball coach!!!

Attention Starke County Taxpayers:
Remember a few months ago when the Police Merit Board moved nearly $2 million dollars of the Police Pension plan out of Starke County to New York-based Morgan Stanley and the head of the Merit Board said it was "time" to move it from the local firm. I live at Bass lake, I have all of my life. I am not rich, but poor. the family on either side of me , this is their vacation homes. They are not from Il. but other places in Indiana. and yes they are the most rude, ugly miserable people on the face of the lake. They come and act like they own the place, call names, talk filthy , drink, and when you call the cops , the cops take their side cause they see they are rich, and not knowing for sure if they are residents or not, they may want the rich peoples votes. Its a lost cause. I wish someone would cut the damn and the water would be gone and then they all would leave.

Another question, we have a county officer that stands in at the library, should not the city do this? and again isnt that batter security than the city court or the courthouse. There are a lot of angry people out there especially when it comes to the big court and annex.

Anonymous said...

Bass Lake is a good place for Illinois and all the other obnoxious idiots, thieves, drug dealers, drunks, and even the other ones that come there with their vacation homes and some of the ruddest kids I have ever met, well what do you expect that is where capone and his friends came to party.

Anonymous said...

It is a good thing those vacationers are the way they are, they are trying to teach the bass lake people better manners than they have, at least they will let you fish at there lake rights where the home folks won't.

Anonymous said...

Rude people stink! There is always something you can do even if the police will not help. Our police arent the most ambitious bunch. Dont get me wrong they are good at what they do. I am glad to have them there. Little things like this is more a bother to them and they dont really want to do it. So dont take the law into your own hands but there are creative ways to hinder their rudeness and encourage them to play nice. Good luck with your jerk problem!

Anonymous said...

Concerning the rude "vacationers" at bass lake : We, my wife, daughter, brother, and daughters fiance, were recently having dinner at the Bass Lake Pub. A group of approximately 4 to 5 people entered the dinning room and sat a coouple tables away and immediatly began talking loudly about Starke county and Indiana in general. Apparently, these "visitors" think very poorly of this area and the people in general. THey were constantly complaining about "local hillbillies" and how we do nothing but drink, do /make drugs and let our daughters get pregnant. THey also were complaing how they were expected to pay taxes and other local fees. They think that they are doing the county a favor living in the area because they "bring money to the local economy" as well as utilizing a otherwise useless lake. Well, truth be told, they bring NOTHING to the area at all. They bring supplies with them from wherever they come from and spend almost nothing in area stores other than the bars. The same bars that they ridicule locals for being in. As far as the lake, well it would be a much more peaceful and enjoyful lake if these morons would have just alittle control over their kids and relatives. How can these people pauchase a home , a part time home, in this area then do nothing but complain about it ?? there is a simple solution.... SELL AND LEAVE !!!

Anonymous said...

For the person concerned about the locals allowing visitors to fish on Locals property. They dont want to be sued because someone gets hurt! If I dont know you well and you ask to do something on my property the answer will always be no! I dont want to lose everything because soemone took advantage of my kindness and got hurt on my property! It isnt personal I just dont know who that person really is! If you want to fish on their property try being nice. Take a food dish over, invite them to bbq's, or best yet Gain a friendly relationship with them. Dont complain "They wont let me". It is simple the city way is ....Stay out of my business and I dont need to know you! You cant come out here with that attitude and expect us to be nice to you and reward you for it! We dont want to be in your business. We dont need to know you. Hold that attitude up though and you look like a pompus jerk and we just will not be as giving as we could be.

Talk about Bass Lake bashing. It's about time some spoke up and broke the ice. Not all the part time, vacation home, out of towner's are rude and downright mean. Some are nice and enjoy the small town living and getting away from the big city rush. It's the majority of those that are rude that make us want to deport you make to wherever you came from. If your going to be rude, sell you house to someone who will live there year round and be nice. There tax dollars are just as good as yours.

As to WKVI AM and FM, it the left wing liberal media at it best. Just watch or listen during the next 6 months.

To the Illinois Jerk, May 10, 4:00, WE AREN'T LUCKY TO HAVE YOU, WE SURELY DON'T NEED YOU, NOR DO WE WANT YOU. You snobs think you can come here with your $ and walk around like royalty. But just as the "Illiana's" can identify a hick local, we can easily identify shallow, pompous Illinois folks. And I sure hope they raise your lake taxes, because I could use a nice paved road like the one around the lake.

The missing 7 year old from the Knox Elementary school is a disgrace because Glen Barnes is suppose to protect our children. And he didn't even call the local officials to help look for the child. Instead he was rude to the parents for being upset. This is not the way we want our schools to protect our children. Why wasn't our school board notified none of them knew anything about it until they read the paper.

i read the story about the 7yr old in the leader, the story was very well written with just the facts as known, i hope mr gapa responds to the newspaper, always two sides to every story. i dont think wkvi will report on this because story is already couple weeks old.

In regards to summer volleyball coaches I think the coaches Mr. Skelly picked are great. I do agree with the comment about the female coach. I think she was very knowledgable about basketball but she only cared about her daughter. If that was my daughter and she had an attitude like that she would of sat the bench. Several people in the stands from other schools were commenting on her bad attitude and the coach should bench her but, that never happened. I think the girls varsity coach needs to rethink her as a coach, but maybee she will be different with volleyball. I also wanted to compliment K.C.E.S on there carnival night. It may have been $15.00 but we came home with a ton of prizes and my kid had a blast. The pizza was great, the cotton candy lady was funny and the games and prizes were nice.I also thought it was great walking through out the entire school instead of all the games in one area.GREAT JOB KCES AND ALL THE VOLUNTEERS AND TEACHERS THAT HELPED WITH IT!

I think glen barnes is a great prinicpal. I find it hard to believe he was rude to anyone. Also just want to commend those who put on the carnival night at the elementary school my kids had a great time. The jump house and slides were great my kids loved them. Great Job Mr. Barnes and Mrs. Tarnow and Student Council for a well ran evening!!!!!!!!

Carnival night at Knox Elementry was great! My kids had a great time, and the prizes were good. It was definitely worth the $15 dollars. I think the credit for the great carnival night should go to the Fornelli's though. they provided the slides and bouncers, they were also the ones running around to make sure everything was running smoothly and that none of the stations ran out of prizes. I didn't seen Mr. Barnes do anyting but walk around and try to look busy. Thanks again to student council and the Fornelli's for a great carnival night.

Went to the school carnival last night and it was a blast! My kids had so much fun and after seeing the games, prizes and all the things they had to do there $15.00 was a great price. Hats off to the cotton candy lady she was hillarious!!!!!!! The infaltable activities were great, my kids loved the castle anyone know where that came from? The only thing i would change for next yr is have bags for prizes! I made two trips to my car thats how loaded down we were with prizes. Otherwise carnival night was a great idea! Great job to everyone involved

Mr. Barnes great job with the school carnival night. I had my doubts about it and charging $15.00 but I received for my son more than $15.00 in prizes. I was also very happy that they let me purchase a braclet at the door for my 4 year old who was not in school yet she also had a blast. What a great family evening, with the rough times everybody is having it was a nice well ran fun enviroment. Great idea with Little Ceasers pizza. I am most impressed with the games they were actually really fun nice games nothing cheap or thown together, also the skill levels you had some where every kid gets a prize and some where you had to have some skill, and could play and win as much as you want to in that 2 hours. My husband just loved the bingo room it was nice to just sit there with your kid and spend some great quality time with him, and I could not believe the prizes for bingo, some of those prizes were $20 each. The dice game was very clever. my son loved the spongbob bounce house and the ball roll game with the pegs, those games were just like you see in amusment parks.Hats off Mr. Barnes great game ideas you did a wonderful job I cannot wait until next years.

where have i been i didnt know we had a Little Ceasers Pizza here in knox. but i am sure little ceasers donated the pizzas. i hope the little lost boy was invited free of charge to fun night. i talked to the mom of the lost boy, (only have her side of sorry) based on what she told me, i hope she doesn't sue the knox school system, it would be a huge payout from the school and we cant afford that.

KCES Carnival night was great my kid had a blast! Thanks everyone involved it was a fun evening. Those games were great i have been to fun night at plymouth school and they gave away mostly candy. These prizes at KCES fun night were awesome. I couldn't get my kid to go to sleep all he wanted to do was play with the prizes he had won. Little Caesars pizza was a great addition, I get sick of the same pizza places around here. Great Job Mr. Barnes on a wonderful evening.

To the comment about where the person who wanted to know where the inflatables come from, I took the number that was on them for my daughters b-day party. The number I received off it was 896-5635 it said fun rentals. I thought the castle they had was great it had everythins a slide bounce house and a play course. Carnival night was a blast. Great job Glen Barnes way to get parents involved with there kids at school. Yes I agree they needed bags. I was not expecting to be coming home with so many nice prizes.

Anonymous said...

no for your info the pizzas were not donated from little caesars and they came from little caesars in laporte. I picked them up for my friend who was helping out with the carnival night since i work up there.

Anonymous said...

who cares about where the pizza came from. everyone knows we dont have a little caesars thats why they got it to have something different. No it wasnt donated the student council paid for it. the object was for the council to raise money they needed for a led sign for the school. alot of people obviously agree the carnival night was a great idea and it was for the kids to have fun not for people to sit and gripe about where the pizza came from. I commend all the individuals involved with the carnival night my neice and nephew loved it. By the way my neice is a student council member thats how i know!

With all of the local pizza places, you would think that they could have either gotten some pizzas donated or at least supported our local economy instead of bringing them in from 35 miles away. I kept wondering the same thing...when did a Little Caesar's open in Knox...well, now I know. They didn't.

Pertaining to the "transferr of retirement funds" to Morgan Stanley, ANY COMPANY THAT MAKES BET ON THE FAILURE OF ANOTHER COMPANY, OR MONETARY SYSTEM, i.e. the Euro by George Sorros,, SHOULD BE INCARCERATED. That should be illegal. We can not make bets & gamble on the failures of investments & countries in order to profit. That is one of the most immoral business ventures I've ever seen, so how in the heck is it legal? Is our Leaders & Politicians profitting from this? Everyone knows George Sorros, owner of CNN & a wanted gangster from Hungary, financed Obama's election. He bet on the collapse of Englands $ system, which it then did. This gut is a crook & needs ran out of America.

IWOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH GETTING THE PIZZA AND PROBABLY THE PRIZES FROM WITHIN THE COUNTY, LIKE THIS COUNTY DOESN'T NEED THE TAX DOLLARS AND ALSO THE BUSINESS. EVEN THOUGH THE KIDS HAD FUN IT ALL COMES RIGHT BACK, ONE WAY OR THE OTHER IT COSTS THE TAXPAYER.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure the cost was a factor in keeping the expenses down for the pizza. If a local pizza place would have sold them for 5 bucks a piece they would have bought them here. Enough said!

Anonymous said...

Pizza hut sells Mia pizzas for 5 bucks a piece!

Anonymous said...

I've been reading the comments about the pizzas that were bought out of town. Personally, I see no wrong in this! Sure we would like to keep the money in the County but how many of you have gone "out-of-town" to pay a penny less for gas when you are really not saving that considering the drive, buying groceries in another county because you do not like the local store,I do not know if you are one of those people but please lets complain about something else besides the pizzas!

Anonymous said...

Concerned, as far as I am concerned bthe best pizza in this county comes from Gina Maries and I am quite sure they would have worked out some kind of deal with the school.
Besides the fact that I don't you, you don't know me but isn't that against the state board of health regulations to transport that much prepared food in your vehicle for delivery and consumption at one point.

I am not getting smart with you, but is that a good way to keep up the schools security, I mean there are a lot of bad people out here and what if, and I did say what if someone put something in one or all of them, how would you feel then? Enough said now?

Anonymous said...

PLEA BARGAINS, WHY DO WE HAVE THEM? I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT IS WHAT THE COURT AND THE PROSECUTERS ARE FOR.

Anonymous said...

I would like to know if you are honestly looking for work and you find odd jobs here and there and you bring home 200.00 to 400.00 a month and you owe child support why they have to lock you up for it? I mean is not that ridiculous, if you can't support yourself and am having a really rough time can't they stop the bill until you at least get on your feet. One more thing and this is funny but it is not, If you are the payee and go to the prosecuter or her assistant why is it you need to get the support modified, they tell you we can't give you legal advice, but if you are the opposing party they will gtve you all the advice you ask, funny isn't it? I thought a prosecuter was there for people that needed help but I guess not. They will tell you to hire a lawyer, how can you hire a lawyer if you can't pay support? They say legal aid or do it yourself. Legal aid will not help if you have a decent car paid for, the bank won't loan you money because you don;'t have a job. somebody took the forms off Indiana's website so thats out.ANY SUGGESTIONS.

all i can say is people are so rude. i know the fornelli's helped out a great deal with the fun fair. I also know the prizes came from there business here in this county. also they donated alot of those prizes. As for the pizzas they were purchased at little caesars and i've had a background check and have worked in the school many of times so i would say the school has excellent security. Its not like i'm a stranger to the school and to say anyone would do something to harm kids is so cruel. I agree i love gina maries pizza. I know they called several local businesses for donations and very few helped out. My advise to you if your so worried about it volunteer to help out next time, because i feel bad for those who spent alot of time and donated alot to have to deal with this garbage.

Anonymous said...

To the one individual complaining about the pizza, next year get involved and purchase pizza at your place of choice. The pizza didnt come from the school's money it was paid for by a private donor and the prizes came from preferred flooring right here in this county. Know matter where you get something from, there will always be someone complaining. To those complaining about b-ball and volley ball coaches you may not agree with alot of the coachs decisions but unless your volunteering to help coach you shouldnt be complaining because coaching isnt always easy!

Anonymous said...

you know i am sick of you worthless people who you have nothing to do but sit back and complain hey you dead beat complaners get involved. what a bunch of little babies to complain about pizza, you know the whole idea for this fund raiser to raise money to get a nice sign for the school so IT DOES NOT COME OUT OF TAX MONEY so what what they lost $15 in tax money if that. the sad thing is I am a local business and i was asked to donate to support this but could not since i already sponsered baseball and soccer, but speaking to the lady who was going around trying to get donations hardly anyone would support this she said and would not donate. i buy pizza for my kids classes through out the year and i buy not just one or two but 7 or 8 at a time and i tell them it is for school and not once did they offer me a discount. before you open your mouth maybe you should check your facts, thats the problem around here to many stupid people open there mouth without checking into the story for the stupid person complaining about pizza the school did not have to buy them a person bought them and gave them to the school. and if you check before you can do anything for a school you have to have a background check, does your local pizza delivery guy have a background check i don't think so, who knows what they do to your pizza in there car driving it to you. I will take my chances withthe person that had the background check. why cant people just be happy this was a very great event for the kids and got them involved with there parents. THAT IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY NEXT TIME GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND VOLUNTEER OR MAYBE ITS YOUR UPSET BECAUSE YOU CANT PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK TO HELP. KEEP YOUR STUPID LITTLE COMMENTS THAT DONT MEAN MORE THAN WHAT MY ANIMAL LEAVES IN HIS CAGE, IF YOU HAD ANY GUTS BE A MAN OR WOMAN AND LEAVE YOUR NAME OR GO MAKE A COMPLAINT IN PERSON SO WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE. BUT THATS THE PROBLEM YOU HIDE BEHIND YOUR LITTLE KEYBOARD. A LOT OF GOOD PEOPLE DID THIS TO MAKE THIS A GREAT EVENT AND ONE PERSON LIKE YOU CANNOT RUIN THIS GREAT EVENT GREAT JOB SCHOOL WE JUST ALL NEED TO IGNORE THE LOSER COMMENTS

What is all of this talk about pizza being bought out of town. Who cares there is not one person in this community that has bought everything local, I am sorry I do not have kids in school anymore but it seems to be a little petty to be complaining about this. People really need to grow up maybe people need to put this effort instead of complaing and do something. Me looking outside at this I work at a local pizza place and it does not bother me, I think the school wanted to get a little something different for everybody. The reason I really came on here was to see what is going on with these people complaining about bass lake people so much. But after reading about this school event it made me mad that one person would run a event down without knowing the facts, these are people that are the problem not the solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAVE A NICE DAY YOU COMPLAINER

Wow all this hooplah about the Fun Fair at KCES..I though Rachael and Dennis Fornelli done an outstanding job with the making of the games and the ideas about the prizes. I know for a fact there was alot of nights where they stayed up until wee hours of the morning trying to get the games painted and set up..so ur kids could have an enjoyable night. An additional thanks should go out to the daughter of the Fornellis, Ireyland, who is the president of the 5th grade student council, for coming up with the wonderful idea to bring back the Fun Fair at the school. Thanks should also go out to all the volunteers they also did a great job. WHAT A WONDERFUL JOB GUYS!!!!

My Mother took my Daughter, and they had a FABULOUS TIME! She brought home great prizes, & they commented on how nice the whole fun night, from the games, prizes & everything was. I give a BIG THANK YOU & Hat's Off to all that worked so hard for our kids & community to have a fun, memorable evening. BUT...Let me comment on the complainers of the pizza not being local. 1st of all, I TOTALLY trust those involved to make the best budget decision as possible. 2nd, I've tried my hardest @ keeping my $ local, with even spending extra to do so, but when the service & quality comes up short of acceptability, I've decided to shop for best quality with the best price, regardless if it's local. If I have to lower my standard to keep $ local, what does that say about some businesses around here? But alot of the businesses do work to maintain high quality service. But to the point, THANKS AGAIN FOR A GREAT FUN-NIGHT, GOOD JOB!

Does reading these comments make anyone else feel like our school should be doing something about teaching people grammar instead of raising money for a sign? Some of these comments are very difficult to read because the grammar is so poor, and it can't be blamed on typographical errors. Comments such as "done an outstanding job" and "there was alot of nights". Maybe it is a pet peeve, but a lot is not one word. If you want to make a point by posting on an open forum, using proper grammar can make your point easier to read and it will be taken more seriously. To the person who suggested that people posting include their name, maybe you should do the same??

It almost embarrasses me when I tell people my kids graduated from Knox. My son will be graduating this year, and the letter about the academic honors banquet reinforced this thought. I'm not sure who typed it but, I laughed when I saw it was to be held on April 22th. I always thought it was the 22nd, but I guess I learned something new thanks to Mr. Bendicsen.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS TO ALL THE FOLKS INVOLVED IN RESURFACING THE BASEBALL FIELDS IN THE PARK. IT REALLY LOOKS GREAT, BUT IS ALSO ALOT MORE SAFER FOR THE KIDS. THANKS TO KVA, THE PARK BOARD AND ALL THOSE INVOLVED IN GETTING IT DONE. FINE WORK.

This is to the person talking about child support. Why should the support be stopped until person owing support gets a better better job? If person is only making $200.00 to $400.00 a month doing odd jobs why don't they try one of the fast food places I'm sure they pay minimum wage. This support is to help take care of the child!I'm sure if you would pay something toward the support you would not go to jail at least that would show you are trying!Just curious was jail time spent already for not paying support?

Why can't people just be happy, like on this fun night, don't you have anything better to do than complain about pizza. Why not just look at the big picture and not nit pick at things and just say good job. What is with all of these little petty things about pizza. When people try and do good things for the community there is always a few people who cannot stand it and have to complain about something. There are bigger issues in this community than talking about pizza. I was happy to have little ceasers pizza it was a nice change. No offense I love pizza hut, pizza king, Gina Maries, but if they had that they may have not sold that much pizza because it is here, where the little ceasers was different. Somebody said Gina maries is the best, they are great but on a busy friday night in the pizza business could they have done all of those pizzas in that short time all at once and still handle there regular customers, not to mention on that large order giving a discount, it probably would not of been worthwhile for her. Everything was great I hope with all of this complaining it does not ruin them from never doing this again, that would be a shame. This was great for the kids and there family, and the prizes were more than what I expected.

Could not believe when I read the paper last week that Knox School System had lost a 7 year old child....
Well maybe I should believe that the Knox Community School system has alot to desire ....
School system has always run on who you are , who you know, oh yes and if you work there or not is how you and your child is judged.... If Kelly worked at the school they would have been all over this to help her out finding her little boy.... What is this school coming too we can not even trust them to make sure our children are safe...I think HOME SCHOOL is the answer to all this....

My children came home from school today with no homework and stated they were bored. I had them count how many times pizza was mentioned in the May discussion board. After reading for a while, my fifth grader asked who wrote these messages, since they are full of spelling mistakes. I told her adults and she said, "I think maybe they need to go back to school." lol Also, she wants people to know that typing in "all caps" means that you are yelling and "that's not nice"! By the way, pizza is mentioned 44 times.Well, 45 now. :)

Wow its been a year since there has been a health inspector. It is not a suprise to compare that to why you see what you see go on in some of the restaurants and stores.

The county council gets health insurance for part time work. (must be nice) If you read some of their meeting minutes, you will also see and might want to question some of the dependents also on the county insurance bill. Then in times as tough as they are today, the county charges all of these restaurants for an annual license. What for? if you do not have the ability to inspect them, they what are they taking the money from them for? This sounds like another one of the two jail fires or stand offs waiting to happen. Then, when it does happen- like someone getting food poisoning, everyone will be up in arms asking why this happened? I am confused? who do you blame?

To the replier about child support, no there was not a time I have ever been locked up for any reason. My child support paper vsays to pay 87.00 per week, I have done that up to about 5 weeks ago, and in addition to that I have paid 100% of all his medical bills because where I worked did not offer insurance. If my ex reads this, which she probably will, she also can tell you that when I have him that there has not been one time that I have not spent at least 50.00 on him, in addition to that I have always picked him up and dropped him off on time, and in addition to that she is always telling him to call me for more money, which out of my stupidity I gave it to her but not through the court. The court people tells me they look at it as a gift and I should of paid it to the court, which in reality it was a gift and I still feel that it was a gift. Now to give you a little more information, I have never had a job for more than 8.77 per hour unless there was overtime and I worked all of that I could to get ahead, 65-78 hrs a week, that is the main reason of my divorce, I could not be at home doing things with my wife and child because I had to work, Alls I asked for is some advice, thats all, and as far as working I have been to 5 different job search places and registered and I have been to every place in Knox, Plymouth, Winamac to name a few, I beleive when I filled out applications if they let you, I have filled out over 100. I do not want to work for cash, i will then be in trouble with the tax people and social security, and the way I look at those are someday I will retire and be taking care of an old man...ME.

I have no bad things to say about the coaches what few of them I know. The worst part is keeping the parents of the players from jumping in. If you ask me they should have to go to anger management programs if they interfere with the coaches duties or training.

People about graffitti, a lot of it is garbage, but some of it has meaning, meaning it is going to get worse and so is Starke county. Whether you know it or not there are Hells angels,MS13 these are some bad people, you have the Latin kings here they are bad also but they sell a lot drugs around here but the odd thing is if they catch a king doing drugs he is out and I do mean out, the worst thing here is that they can not afford to have a drug task force, so they do not have one, that is right we have no drug task force at all, but every now and then the police will raid somewhere or they get lucky and do a traffic stop and find some.

TO CHRISSY SAID, IF YOU JUST HAVE TIME TO BRING UP THIS GARBAGE TO YOU KIDS DID YOU LET NTHEM SEE HOW IT STARTED? I READ AND THERE IS A LOT OF PIZZA REMARKS FOR SURE, BUT IF YOU TAKE IT FROM THE START, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE PERSON WHO WROTE THE SORT OF NEGATIVE, IF YOU LOOK AT IT THAT WAY
, SEEMS TO ME THERE WAS MORE OF A CONCERN THAN ANYTHING, TO BICKER OVER THE TAX PART I CAN SEE WHERE IT IS NOT QUITE RIGHT, BUT THE REST OF IT SEEMS AS A CONCERN IN MY OPINION. THINK ABOUT IT.

NOT ONLY DO WE NEED A HEALTH INSPECTOR, BUT WHAT ABOUT A BUILDING INSPECTOR WHO KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING AND THE CODES. AND AS FAR AS THE COUNTY INSURANCE PLAN GOES, DO YOU KNOW THAT STARKE COUNTY HAS NO MEDICAL INSURANCE ON LIKE THE PEOPLE GOING IN AND OUT OF THE COURTHOUSE OR DOWN THOSE STEEP STAIRS UNDER THE JAIL. GET HURT THERE AND SEE YOU WILL HAVETO SUE THE COUNTY, IF YOU WIN AND THAT IS A BIG IF THE TAXPAYERS WILL PAY THE BILL NOT AN INSURANCE COMPANY.

Conserning the 7 year old boy who was lost- This is also not the first time that the elementary school has lost a child. My nephew, who is 5, was also sent out with the walkers when he was to be placed on a bus. The sitter called and told his mom that he was not on the bus. He was found walking around by the stoplight because he wasn't allowed to cross the street. This seems to be a growing problem at the elementary school and they need to come up with a better system for dismissal. The fact that Mr. Barnes was so rude to this woman is unacceptable. He had his chance to respond to the comments made and he did not so I will not give him the benefit of doubt. I have seen him be rude to many people and I do not see this situation to be any different. I wonder how he would react if it was his child found walking down a busy highway.

Anonymous said...

Are you smarter than a 5th grader? I don't think anyone has won that show yet, so why bshould the people of Starke county be any different.

Anonymous said...

Just to be helpful to the people who don't seem to understand how to write in anything other than All-Caps: The "Caps Lock" key is located on the far-left side of any standard keyboard. Specifically, it is located just above the "Shift" key, directly below the "Tab" key, and just left of the "A" key. Once you have pressed the "Caps Lock" key, all of your writing appears in capital letters. In addition to making your writing come across as though you are shouting at anyone reading it, you also come across as though your brain consists of nothing other than malted hops and bacon grease.

Fortunately for you, there is a quick fix. Simply press the "Caps Lock" key a second time, and your action instantly disengages that particular obnoxious keyboard feature. That certainly won't help with the grammatical errors and misspelled words, but at the very least it will be an upgrade. I hope this has helped a few of you!

Anonymous said...

In reference to the "Caps Lock Key" comment....YOU ARE TOTALLY AWESOME!!! lol Now that was a good post! I have a problem though. I keep pressing the "Home" Key but they wont let me go?? Can you explain why?

Anonymous said...

Regarding the lost 7 yr old child... all I have to say is what the paper said is not the whole story and both sides of the story should be told before anyone judges the school. The school has a very secure way of dismissing the children and if the parents do not want their child to wander around after school then they need to be there on time when the walkers get released to pick them up... otherwise you should go in and pick them up personally especially at that age. Also, it is not the schools fault when the child is told what to do and knows where to go and takes it upon themselves to do something completely different after leaving the classroom. Quit blaming the school for your childrens mistakes and start teaching some manners and rules to your children!!!! If that isn't enough, then volunteer to help out at the Elementary School and see what it takes to keep track of 800 children!!! I personally think the staff do all they can to make sure the kids are safe and do what they are suppose to do. Mr. Barnes puts the kids safety first and I do not see him being rude to any parent that has any issue regarding their child in this type of situation. It is sad that the parenting skills today are pretty much gone... the children can do whatever they want and have no guidence about RULES, Manners or RESPECT.

Anonymous said...

In regards to the lost boy, yes some parents don't have good parenting skills, but that does not mean they do not love their children. The youth club is a wonderful place for kids to go and be safe. Is there not a way the youth club knows what kids should be there everyday? If not they should have a way of knowing who those children are. Maybe they could work on a system so they do know the one's that come everyday. Parents work with the club on this idea. God Bless all those involved with this problem

Anonymous said...

Regarding the boy that got in the wrong line and ended up walking toward home? Bottom line there should be a system in place to make sure the kids go where they are supposed to go. Kids are Kids and they will try to get away with whatever they can. I am not saying negative things regarding the school or the parents either. Just that when something like this happens there needs to be a review of policy so it doesnt happen again. I think that is what everyone would like to see no matter what they are arguing. Unless they just want to stir up trouble.
We as a communitity need to work to make sure our schools are safe. Being nasty and rude to each other will get nothing done!
I believe society in general has too much influence in the raising of our children. In a lot of situations both parents work. They as parents still have to take time teach their children morals, (sp?) Kindness, Respect, and How to handle adversity (An often overlooked but crucial lesson!). It is a hard job and one that is tiring after working all day for someone else. You get no vacations and No sick days. May God Bless all parents that work hard to not only provide for their families but, work hard to teach proper manners as well as the afore mentioned values.
I dont know Mr. Barnes I dont know the facts on what actually happened between him and the distressed mother of the boy. If an apology is due. Hopefully it is given. There is a difference between confidence and pride. Don't let either get in the way of getting along for a common good. I hope as adults it can be worked out. How about we let them do it?

In the May 20th edition of the leader, editor ( and I use the term editor loosely ) John Reed reports he recieved a letter from Frank Boilini complaning about the excessive coverage of the Knox High School play Cinderella. I wonder what Frank thinks about the coverage of the Rietow boys. I thought any minute there would be a report that they walked across Bass Lake. Also, Frank thought more local news should be reported. I agree. I do not think a new Syrian diocese in Plymouth is local news. Not one single word about the Walkathon for Love, Inc.

Anonymous said...

This is in response to the person who feels that the Rietow boys received to much coverage in the Leader. I assume that you feel that 2 kids that have played three sports throughout their high school career and still maintained straight A's for all 8 semesters shouldn't receive any publicity. Well let me state that I feel kids like this don't appear nearly often enough. I would think that with all of the bad news that we hear about kids people would love the fact that we as a community are also turning out fine students. Maybe you would be happier if the 2 Rietow kids were being arrested for some type of crime. Try not to be an idiot with your comments and lets appreciate some of the fine students that our school is turning out.

Anonymous said...

It is sad to think that someone would feel that coverage of two kids that excelled in both athletics and academics isn't justified. I personally thought the Leader coverage and the WKVI stories were more than justified. We see so much negative news that to me it is very nice to see that some kids are doing positive things in their lives. The Knox school system is turning out great kids every year. These two happen to be twins which is unique in itself, but the fact that they have also been so similiar in grades and athletic achievements makes it extra unique. I happen to know these two and several of the Knox graduating Seniors, and I can tell you that all of these kids are wonderful students and people. Try to realize that when someone does something good, they deserve credit for their work, as when the news is bad that needs reported also. I would suspect that someone who is concerned about news coverage for Love,Inc. is a Christian, since this is a Christian organization. How sad that the writer isn't showing a Christian attitude and enjoying and praising these two kids, instead for some unknown reason feels that their accomplishments should be ridiculed by the comment about them 'walking on Bass Lake". I am sure the Love,Inc group would love coverage about their Walkathon, but I am equally sure that they would be proud of these two kids and not feel that they shouldn't be praised.

WHAT A WASTE OF TAX PAYERS MONEY.....
How much more of our tax dollars is going to be put into Toto Rd ???
You drive down it after a heavy rain and you might as well drive across the lake....Seems to me Mr Siddal said that there would be less humps and bumps and water laying after the project was complete.. it is worse now then it was before...
And for the stripe seems to me both side s of the road are not equal now alot narrower on one side then the other in spots....
Just a plain waste of money....
Yesterday they were cutting out a section at 250 E and repairing it already...what is it going to be like when it is a year old this fall... maybe down to dirt...

1st off, why did they ONLY stripe Toto Rd. up to where the Lake Rats drive? So...it's perfectly paved right up to their rathouses. And 2nd, I must commend OUR local Knox Schools for all the fun things they've done for our LOCAL kids, with Fun Night, Field Trips(IN Beach, I-Max, Indy B-Ball game, Shrek movie, etc.), it's been really nice what this school has done.

THE STARKE COUNTY HIGWAY DEPARTMENT NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT 500 SOUTH IN THAT LOW AREA BETWEEN 200 AND 300, THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THAT ROAD IS SO MESSED UP AND DANGEROUS, HOW YOU BOUNCE AROUND OR BOTTOM OUT. I WISH THEY WOULD LOOK INTO THIS.

Anonymous said...

If you have problems with the road where you live, you need to contact the county commissioner responsible for your township. They can bring it to the attention of the highway department and get something done about fixing the problems. It may take more than one call, and you may have to call all of the commissioners, but call them. They are elected to represent the people of their district and you have to let them know about problems before they can fix them. Calling the highway garage might help, but I have found the commissioners to be much more proactive in getting things addressed when it comes to road conditions.

As far as the funding goes, maybe that could be used to fix the water issue that is experienced by all of Hamlet when it rains. It is okay for our children to get off the school bus and have to swim home but yet, it is not okay for a child to enjoy some fun in the puddles? BTW when will the water guy be asking for another raise? I hear he has almost completed some kind of schooling to do with running the water company, does this mean another huge raise? Where do you take these classes, I would definitely enjoy giving myself a raise. Maybe these are the classes where he learns how to dispose of the rain water. More likely dispose of the funding.

Speaking of Hamlet, where do I get these "always available Hamlet minutes" I read about in the Leader? I am interested in one of the meeting minutes when it was stated (I was present for this meeting) that the town of Hamlet had been overcharging people for water since (roughly) 2002?. When a lady asked how this issue would be resolved the huffy treasurer stated that people would receive reimbursements on their water bills. I need to check that date because I believe I am still awaiting my reimbursement. And just a question, at this same town meeting the same "water guy" I have been reading about, I do believe, asked about the Water Company purchasing 80 some water meters to trade out for bad ones and the Water Companies reply was "No,sorry, we are in the red". What? Wait a minute, I am no accountant or anything but let's just say that if you have overcharged, oh I don't know maybe 80 people since 2002 would there not be quite an allotment built up for the Water Company? Just asking.

Whoever was talking about the bowling alley they have pool tables there too and real good hot dogs.

The double yellow lines are nice. However, why did they not complete the job with the white lines. I use the white lines at night when car lights blind me.

Re: Bakery- I have a card from their grand opening. It's called Delia's Bakery in the Knox Mall. They have an assortment of breads, pies, brownies, custards, tarts, strudels, cheesecakes, cupcakes, cremishes, and savarinas. The atmosphere is calming and to place an order or ask questions the number given is 574-772-0743. Hope this helps a little :)

i heard it was a 57 year old man named mike. not the teenager. the teen that was rumored is alive and well.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone else's teenager who attends O-D, come home talking about some substitute that cusses in class, takes head count and then allows them to do whatever they want? I am sorry but, my child goes to school to gain an education. Is this the type of sub's that O-D hires? How is that educating MY child. I am told that they are allowed to talk on their cell phones and even wonder the halls freely. Does this person gain a paycheck of some sort for doing this job? If this is all that is needed to sub then I am surprised that all the people who are without jobs aren't lining up to become substitutes.

The bowling alley, I thought they were closing it down, I saw some scaffolding there a while back and I was told thet were making a store out of it. I am glad to here we still have one. I don't bowl but I sure like to shoot pool an awful lot. Thanks.

WKVI, has the story about the train death on its headlines pages.

As an Administrator at OD, I would like to know who the substitute teacher was that was involved in this situation. As an Administrator it is hard to deal with a situation that we are not made aware of. Has this been reported to the school?

Many people have requested Todd Rokita to file an Audit with not only The Town of Hamlet, but also the Starke County Commissioners on the past discrepencies(prior to the present board), because that issue STILL has not been properly resolved. There are some "Rat" hunters coming to clean house, & if you're 1 of those Rats, you'd best be leavin town. I also know that Homeland Security(which has higher authority than the FBI), is investigating many bogus arrests & court proceedings. We in Starke Co. are fed up w/ the thieves & the "clique" buddy system politics.

Anonymous said...

I, have come to one conclusion and that is you are better off to read this forum than you are the newspaper, but still be cautious about rumors.

Anonymous said...

I also have been in touch with Todd Rokita, and they are suppose to be works in progress. The maintainence bills for the town vehicles is a big concern, well the list is to long to describe for sure, but they are finally going to do something, I believe the waterworks is the concern of a different division, I can't recall the name or letters for it, I do know they are reviewing survailance tapes on all of Hamlet.

There has been a lot of investigation going on because I myself have had a few interviews and gave deposition as to facts that I know is going on and that has been going on.

Anonymous said...

Hamlet, again? They should have done that a long time ago and they could of had a lot of money saved by now, well depending on who is in power. The little town I came from they took all the people on the payroll to jail and they all had to testify before a grand jury, but here I believe it is a bit different. Anyway my home town they came up with about 1.2 million dollars to the good if they ever recover it, but not one of those people even live in the county anymore and about half of them are in prison.

Anonymous said...

Administrator at O.D., alls you have to do is walk the halls every now and then?

Anonymous said...

Here in Starke county we don't need a prosecuter, we need someone to look in a book come up with some lame plea agreement and if they don't except that then they need to go back with another one giving them lesser time until the accused is satisfied, or just don't arrest or charge any body with any crimes, just imagine the money we could save, I truly agree with the justice system when you have the party there that has a conscious for the outcome or that at the least wants to know the facts, all of them.

Anonymous said...

I would like to know why the water dept. in Hamlet needs 20 new water meters, they don't read them anyways, if they do it is a big suprise to me because mine is under my kitchen sink and there has been no one in twelve years that I have been here ask to see it.

Anonymous said...

Hamlet, I would like to know where the deposits go for the water and sewage, I know several that were suppose to be refunded and they never got a dime, let alone 100.00.

Anonymous said...

Hamlet, do any of you remember the cafe owner a while back? Well do you remember the specials on the weekends they were no specials but you ordered and paid and if you noticed it was a little higher than usual. Thats because the prices were made to suit the individual, well that is the same person that is handling your towns money.

Don't lose faith in our judicial system entirely~! Billy Ard who was sentenced to additional time recently broke into our home with two accomplices. The detectives from Starke County and the State Police knew who it was and had made one arrest in one week~! Be vigilant but work with the Starke County Sherrifs~!
For obvious reasons....anonymous...

Anonymous said...

I would never loose faith in our sheriffs dept., or the judge we have, I would put my life in their hands any day of the week. The sheriffs dept saved my daughter and my grandson, and a few more matters that I can not discuss but you can trust them and Det. Lawson, he may not know this but it was a toss up between him and one other officer that is deceased and I still remember everyword them men taught me and I would have a hard time choosing between them for my best friend, even though we don't socialize, I would be at his defense at the drop of a hat. Come to think of it real hard I only have 5 people besides my family that I can say are sincere friends, what I call friends and I do not use that word loosely.

Anonymous said...

Reality Check. Todd Rokita has nothing to do with investigating government finances, so give it up, nobody believes you. The OD sub couldn't possibly get away with the things you say, so there's another fib. Criminals in this county would have it easier in almost any other county than they have it here. Ask the dudes in prison if they think they got off easy. The bowling alley isn't closing. Toto Road is better now that it has been repaved and painted. The basic problem with a blog is that when you let people hide behind anonymity this is what you get. I can't wait until WKVI starts requireing bloggers to pass polygraphs because 7 out of 10 bloggers on here will be shut down because all they do is whine and lie and whine some more. Its time we start calling them out.

Why don't we ever hear from any of those cuthroat politicians with all this stuff on this site I have to say most of it if not all of it must be true. How about it Hamlet? anyone up there have any defense or are you to busy fixing records. And someone asked to see the minutes from the past meetings, where are they? A lot of unanswered questions to me?

Anonymous said...

O-D Administrator, maybe you ought to check with the Baseball officials. It is rumored that this same 'sub' was denied the ability to be an assistant coach. If this person can not volunteer to coach how can they earn a check as a sub?

Anonymous said...

RE REALITY CHECK: Do you know how to read, no one said Todd Rokita has anything to do with investigation in government financial matters, but he surely can put you in the right direction, I hope the politicians in hamlet do give it up, also no one said anywhere that the bowling alley was closing, they said they heard it was closing, because of the work being done on it, and as far as hiding behind anonomy you seem to be doing a fine job. Toto road is not better because of the lines, have you even been down it? And now you don't think the OD sub could get away with anything? OK, lets see if they look into it. So 7 out of 10 are liars, then there is you left being an idiot!!!!

Anonymous said...

Well as for the O-D sub, sorry are you in the class? I some how doubt it. As far as what happens at roll call, oh yeah this is very true. I did not believe it myself but, since the children are allowed to talk and text on their phones while she is subbing, one of them (if not more) took it upon themselves to record her morning roll call for their parents and sure enough "Everyone sit down! Shut the h--- up! Let me take roll call and then you may do what you want!" I have asked the parents of this student to turn this over to the school but, this particular child is in O-D's sports and the parents do not want to have to worry about repercussions. Understandable, maybe I should get a cell phone for my child to carry to school. Oh wait a minute, I send my child to school for an education, not to babysit those that are supposed to be teaching.

Anonymous said...

Why doesn't someone put in a transfer station for garbage and debris, Winamac has one and it seems to be doing well, from what I have scene?

Anonymous said...

To me they or to outlaw cell phones in any public building like they do smoking, they are very distracting especially in a court room. Do you know that they are trying to research what happens to the human body from cell phone use? look it up it's on the internet, including cancer.

Anonymous said...

If you are sending your child to school for an education, you should get them a cell phone, some of them have the most up to date technology, what else could you want your child to know, just kidding keep your child in OD if your want an education not Knox.

Love the country music on the AM. Especially like that you're mixing in some of the golden oldies. We get tired of the same 12 songs being played over and over again on B-100 I'm telling all of my friends about the great country music on WKVI-AM.

I just want to take a second to commend those helping with the meals for kids at the park. What a wonderful program.
I am so proud to like here in Knox. I choose to live here, because I know it is a wonderful place. I had to live in a few other cities to realize that. It’s too bad so many people focus on the negative. I just found out there is a community heath center here in our community. They provide discounts to see a doctor and affordable medication. They treat people with and with out insurance. Why don’t more people know about this? It’s up to us in the community to get the message out there. This is a great place to live and raise your family. COME ON Starke County. Let’s make this a better place to live!
Go have some pizza and move on!

There are laws concerning free or reduced medical benefits, I think some years ago when the hospital was a lot smaller that the county had some sort of regulation that they were suppose to give free or reduced medical care, I am not sure about that. As far as schooling goes I know the county has to under any circumstances provide your child with an education, at the counties expense, no matter what your childs disability is. That is the federal law. They have to provide the children an education.

Thanks to all of you veterans out there, past and present who have served their country and to the families of those who did not return.

I THINK THE COUNTY SHOULD ALSO STRIPE RANGE ROAD BETWEEN TOTO ROAD AND HIGHWAY 10. THERE IS A LOT OF TRAFFIC ON THAT ROAD JUST LIKE TOTO ROAD WITH BAILYS, PREFERRED FLOORING, RICHARDS AND GRANNYS. THIS IS A HEAVY TRAFFIC ROAD AS WELL, AND THEY SHOILD TAKE CARE OF THIS. I KNOW THOSE BUSINESSES ALL GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY AND PRODUCE A LOT OF REVNUE FOR US, NOT TO MENTION DRAW PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER TO COME TO OUR COUNTY. I KNOW BAILYS GIVE BACK A LOT TO THIS COMMUNITY, ALONG WITH THE OWNERS OF PREFERRED FLOORING THEY ALSO GIVE A LOT BACK TO THIS COMMUNITY.I LIVE ON RANGE ROAD AND ITS LIE A RACE TRACK THERE, AND THERE IS A LOT OF TRAFFIC AND PEOPLE PASS IN BAD LOCATIONS. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND AFRAID ONE DAY SOMEONE COULD SWERVE IN OUR YARD OR MY KIDS RUNS OUT AND SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAPPENS. I THINK STRIPING THIS WOULD SLOW TRAFFIC DOWN. IF OUR CHEAP COUNTY CAN'T AFFORD IT THEY CAN GO TO BAILYS AND BY PAINT CHEAP THERE ITS BETTER THAN NOTHING, OR MAYBE THEY WILL DO NOTHING SINCE WE ARE NOT LAKE TRAFFIC, MAYBE THEY ONLY DO THIS FOR OUT OF TOWN PEOPLE, THEY SHOULD THINK OF THERE OWN. I KNOW YOU COMMISIONERS READ THIS I HAVE CALLED ABOUT THIS AND NOTHING EVER HAPPENS. IF I HAVE ILLNOIS PEOPLE MOVE ON THIS ROAD THEN MAYBE SOMETHING WILL GET DONE.VERY CONCERNED PARENT AND IT WILL BE A TRAGEDY IF SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS, THIS WILL NOT PREVENT IT 100% BUT IT WILL SURE HELP.

To the Illinois people! Most people dread your arrival in the county because you DO demand special treatment and your driving is horrible! I get sick of peeling you off of the pavement in wrecks, because you drive like you are still in Chicago! Not to mention the drug overdoses more than triple. Maybe if you were more pleasant to the locals, they would accept you more. Amen!

Anonymous said...

I really hate to hear all the criticism and downright bashing of the Illinois visitors in the summer. True, there may be some that are rude, just like there are some rude people in any community. Maybe if we show more Hoosier Hospitality, they would pick up on that! By bashing them and calling them names, it just gives all of us in Starke County a bad reputation. No wonder they don't respect us. As my mother used to say, "Kill them with kindness!"

I am not a fan of the walking path from North Judson to Monterey. I know several people who hunt the area very near this path. The walkers will not be wearing hunting orange. So, either A) they will be loud enough to scare the animals out of their natural habitat so hunters can hear them, or B) the hunters who have permission or own the land there will end up shooting someone.

you miss the cheap gas on toto and 35? do u miss the ronchy moldy smell inside. Those owners truly destroyed the place. It was all remodeled by Castaways and they drove it in the ground. Pretty sure the gas they had was no where near top notch that's why it was cheap and unless u could stand the stench...was best to get full service. I stopped in there for a drink one day and about wanted to puke from the smell. Glad it's out of business.
