To our Knox LadySkins Volleyball...we are exremely proud of all your hard work & accomplishments. The mid-season tourney wins, the excellent record & the run to semi-state. You have permanently raised the bar for our volleyball program. And great job to the JV as well, as we can look forward to the success continuing for years to come. The Seniors have been excellent role models & leaders, & we sincerely thank you. *And Congrats to out Cheerleaders as well. Goodluck at State!
Voting is a privilege which we all should take advantage of. I like it when candidates are at the polls on election day because it shows me that they care enough to meet me and ask for my vote. if you dont like it just ignore them. But it tells me that if they work that hard to get elected they will probably work hard when in office.
Who won the Polka Monster drawing?
Since the great smashing success of the pumpkin drop, Tom and co-workers are now deciding what else to do next and making their loyal audience wait until Wednesday, so why now open up the suggestions to their listeners. First accept their suggestions and then stage a vote on the matter. Here are just a few: Parachute unto the baseball field next to the radio station dressed like a Turkey and aim for a target. Secure a Hot Air Balloon and offer rides with the wkvi personnel. Have a pilgrim dinner served by WKVI Men in early pilgrim clothes, and accept donations of money, coats or food. Have Sleigh rides when and if it SNOWS enough, and get a White Bearded Man to play Santa. There lots of safe ways to entertain us local citizens. Consider it maybe for your Spring Event! But Thanks for a Beautiful Fall Event.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Due to the fact that the three pumpkins exploded into so many pieces, the curse of the Great Pumpkin death is officially lifted as it was for a good cause.
Signed: The Witch of Starke County
Perhaps parents could be interviewed to see how many allowed how much pumpkin to follow their children home and what became of their pieces. It was a great way to recycle the pumpkin and clean it up at once too.
Great job Marching Bluejays!
Just curious how long is a 2 day conference for Knox school administration?? Since that was the excuse for a lot of them not attending the volleyball's regional game and still didn't see many at the semi-state....
Vicki
A 2 day conference, lasted us 2 days.
We also had to stop and eat,we did not have the volleyball game in our plans.
The girls did a great job without us.
We also have our own things to do on weekends.
I certainly hope WKVI will be posting election results tonight...?
WSBT has Gordon Richie winning with over 17,000 votes...has to be a typo. Starke Co. doesn't even have that many residents. Congrats to Oscar Cowen, & fine job to Mt.Richie for a clean campaign. Seemed to be a large voter turnout, and hope we made the necessary, positive changes where needed.
Congrats to Shelly Kemble for her win . Just always remember God is on your side and honesty always prevails .
could someone plz. tell me why we pay for a trustee ? She never answers her phone and,. she never returns phone calls. If by some odd chance you reach her, there are"nt any funds any way. so why should we as taxe payers have to pay for useless service?
Great election coverage WKVI. Please in future elections include Culver. We have no local media
that can keep us up to date like you guys.
Send Ted or Harold over here sometime!
wow kudos to whom ever stood up for the Knox teachers and the conference!! so much negativity on this blog why can't there be more positive!
save the economy bring prop 19 to indiana and push it through!
Isn't Culver, Marshall County? I think there is a radio station in Plymouth that should include them in their media quest?!?
Well lets see here you produce a story about how close a vote was but do not show the actual numbers in the story? I guess in order to look up the total numbers I will have to go to the south bend news? Dont be a teaser for the south bend news. give us all the info when you produce a story please!!
What trustee? Be specific! Maybe we will have money after all those taxes come in with the new caps!!! FYI, the word tax has no "e" on the end ;)
Also for your information:
The trustee is assisted by a three-member Township Board whose members are also elected to four year terms. Duties of the board include adopting the annual budget, serving as a board of finance and approving township contracts. In January of each year, the trustee presents to the board an annual report showing the receipts, expenditures, investments and debts of the township. The approved report is then published in local papers for public inspection.
If Mitch gets his way, there'll be no more Trustee's, or any other from of local Gov't. Instead, HE'LL APPOINT a District Head who'll then appoint his people, & they'll all be paid well...in order to save the taxpayers $. There is No Logic & No Way that replacing volunteers(firemen) with paid firemen, trustees($2K/yr), & local offices with full-time, high wage w/ benefits personal, is going to save tax $. But, maybe...it will bring better jobs? But I do not want to see our Representation delegated to a district head, with us no longer having a voice.
If you just scroll down a little further on our main page, you'll find the complete, local election results.
Sorry you missed them.
Hopefully tomorrow morning is not a snowy day, one weather man is predicting 59 inches of snow this winter, it is time to educate those students hoping for a day off to play in the snow. Forgive them for having to telephone and ask, "Is there school today?" They are so young, so give them their principal's phone number, share their concern.
This is the website to get view the virtual Viet Nam wall memorial on line. Go to the State of Indiana, and then to Knox and there were four young men from Knox who died in the war, one==George "Andy" Howe is still missing in action, the site is at www.VIRTUALWALL.org/state.htm. This includes statements from men who fought with these men.
Hey, south of Knox there's a flock of 17 wild turkeys which includes 15 hens and 2 Tom Turkeys. Would any radio men of our friendly WKVI air waves be interested in bring a large net and capturing one of those Toms? It would draw lots of interested listeners on a dull November day!
If I am to go by the results on your page then there is more than 1000 Vote difference between Dembowski and Ellert? So what was the point of the story saying it was close? so Either the #'s are wrong or your article was just a Joke?
I just want to say, that if indeed the Courtside View is closing, that it will be missed. We are very grateful for Jeff & Carol for all their sacrifice to the Knox Striper Football/Cheerleading, for the countless hours, countless fundraisers, working tirelessly with all the kids & parents, that we cannot take this for granted. I can only wish more parents/families would step up & get involved as they have for so many years. We wish them nothing but success in all their endeavors. We sincerely thank you Jeff & Carol.
For 1, you cannot "catch" a turkey in a net...it's illegal. There's specific hunting seasons for our wild turkeys. But, maybe a fundraiser of donating wild turkeys from hunters is an idea, but the season just ended, I believe. 2nd, the elction between Mrs. Dembowski & Mr. Ellert was actually VERY close going into the last vote count, and was still up in the air, so the article was NOT a joke. But we'll all be paying close attention to see if the campaign promises on the election advertisements is followed through with & promoted strongly by the winner, as stated. SAFE DRIVING TO ALL, Old Man Winter will be making for slick roads very soon!
I read that many people seem to be critical about the schools system. Not sure why. The way to change the school system via the school board.
In the elections this past week, none of the 3 board seats that were open were contested elections. All three of the seats were filled by reelected existing board members.
So, if no one will run for election to the school board, then you will see any changes, I am not saying that there needs to be any, but for the next year, you will see the same members on the board.
Time to turn back our clocks again tonight!
In a related note, couldn't we reconsider having the entire state of Indiana in one time zone? It's confusing for us Hoosiers--I wonder how difficult we make it for visitors to our state to try to figure out what time it is?
the state will re-visit the time issue again soon.
that way they can raise taxes again, and everyone will be more worried about the time zones. works every time.
I am curious about the story regarding the loads of stone sold to the county by Mr. Mark Milo. I can't imagine our County Commissioners telling him he will have to sue the county in small claims court in order to get paid. Mr. Bridegroom admits that the county owes for the stone, but the bill does not say whether it is 26 tons, yards, etc..... Why not just ask for another bill with precise information. Does anyone know the specifics of this story? I'm thinking WKVI has left something out in the story.
For the poster on the Dembowski/Ellert race, the 1,000 vote difference was for Starke County only. But the important vote total was close. It included Marshal county. Over 17,000 people voted and she won by 271. I voted for Nancy because she said she will be tuff on illegal immigration. I'll be watching Nancy.
If Mr. Milo shafted the taxpayers of Starke Co., already, then why would we ever do business with him again? I understand the stone transaction may possibly occurred prior to his indictment, but he was VERY lucky in how he skated through that. But then to come back & throw ANOTHER bill at us, that's just not right. Then, with there being questions on the amount that was actually provided? HOW ABOUT.....WHEN HE PAYS "THE TAXPAYERS" BACK, THEN WE'LL CONSIDER PAYING HIM FOR THE EXACT AMOUNT PURCHASED.
Here's what happened. Coats won because people are mad about Obamacare. Donelly won because Jackie scared people a little bit. Dembowski won because Ellert just looked a little too young and cocky and Dembowski looks like your neighbor. Hall won because people like him and he has always done a good job. Matsey not so much. Bourf won because the Sherrif didn't get along with her and that grey haired deputy was a jerk. Cowen won because people like him and Gordon has no experience. Neither did Wireman. Davis won because the Democrats put her in and it was close because she's got a few enemies. Don't know why Pearman and Tony R. and Mitch won. Barely is all I can say. McLaughlin won because people still like old Judge Mac. The tax cap won because people don't like to pay taxes. Overall I think we are in good hands and we'v got some good people in office.
Does anyone know off-hand when the High School basketball season starts(girls & boys)?
I think the police in Judson need to watch the streets a little closer in the middle of the night, I hear there is this thing called car tag going on, running stop signs and such to try and catch another car. this could be very dangerous and I know I wouldn't want to be on the streets with these kids, when this is happening!
In reponse to the person who posted there analysis of the election results. I would just say in the prosecutors race the person who son should hire is dad, since that is what he seemed to run on. No qualifications were every given all I ever heard or saw in the paper was who my family was. Only in Starke county can you get a goverment job with no qualifications.
To the person critisizing the election of Nick Bourff--Maybe if the old prosecutor would have actually punished the criminals instead of consistently making plea agreements that any criminal in their right mind would take, she would still have her job. The vote was for a change from the to easy sentences that she always plead into.
Please!! If you are going to bash our county for electing someone you thought should not have been elected. Proof read your comment and make sure it doesn't make you look foolish!
It would really help your case if you knew how to use the words their and there as well.
Bourff ran a good race showing his values and those he has around him to support him and won. I would rather vote for change in someone with good values and some common sense. Than vote for someone running on experiance alone.
His dad is a great man and did alot of good for our community! Hopefully the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree!
Re: Basketball. Knox girls open at home against Winamac Friday night (11/12) then have Rensselaer on Saturday. Not sure about the boys, but if you go to www.highschoolsports.net and put in the school you'd like, it will give you a complete schedule.
Back to Mr. Milo....the county owes for the stone. I am a local business owner and why not deduct the amount of money the county owes for the stone from the amount that Mr. Milo owes the county. Could this be a better way of handling the situation than going to court? Won't that cost the taxpayers more money?
But there's no verification of how much stone Starke Co. purchased other than someone's word, & that word isn't the most respectable at the moment. We the people of starke Co. hold ALL the cards, so there shouldn't any threats made against the county when the very person asking for the $ has already stolen from the taxpayers.
Remember, veterans make it possible for you to argue on here all day.
God Bless all of our service men and women for serving their country to help keep us safe. May God Bless all the families who have someone serving now. I'm proud that my brothers served their country in 50's and 60's and returned home safe.
So let's all remember this as a very special day.
Thank you Veterens!! God Be with you all!
I think it would be neat in Honoring our Veterans by having them stand as the hosting school plays the song by Lee Greenwood-
God Bless the USA, at Sporting Events.
We need to let the Community see who these young men and women are.
God Bless each and everyone of you on this Veterans Day.
You Sacrificed more than we can actually realize.
We need to Honor you more.
Without you our Freedom would not be Free.
Thank you all Veterans. Because of these brave men and women, we are all free. God bless them and the USA!!!!
KNOX SCHOOLS NEEDS BETTER FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why is gas cheaper everywhere but in Knox where it is at least a nickel higher
WAS IT NOT VETERANS DAY IN THE NORTH JUDSON SANPIERRE SCHOOLL DISTRICT ALSO. OH BUT I FORGOT THIS IS ONLY A NEWS STATION FOR THE EAST SIDE OF THE COUNTY. YOU WONDER WHY NORTH JUDSON AND SANPIERRE FEEL THEY ARE NOT A PART OF STARKE CO , WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THERE WAS ANY NEWS OF MORE THEN 1 LINE REPORTED FROM WEST OF RANGE LINE ROAD? THE NORTH JUDSON TOWN BOARD ONLY MAKES IT WHEN BOB HOWARD IS INVOLVED WONDER WHY .
I went to Valpo on Monday. The gas price was $2.77 per gallon. The price in Knox? $2.99 per gallon.
How does the pricing work that there is more than a twenty cent difference?
Has anyone ever seen the Marsjall Co. F.O.P. grounds in Argos, that includes a firing range? It has a nice pond from where the dirt for the range came from, a nice shelter for picnics, and it's located out in the country. Doesn't Starke Co. have just a few acres somewhere out in the boondocks in which something could be made into a similar FOP grounds? Just a suggestion. For it'd be wise to keep this out of the Highway Garage & make it a seperate entity.
Can WKVI please add a "sports" tab to click on & get the past week's local sports scores?
Are you really serious about not burning in the County ? Can you imagine what our road sides will look like if they say you are not to burn garbage ? I can see the tires but household everyday garbage is not that bad it is better then someone taking it and throwing it along a road or in the ditch. Not everyone can afford garbage pickup but most can afford or do have matches all the time for one thing or another.
Next thing they will tell us we cant burn wood to heat our homes or have a nice little get together with a bon fire.
What is up with the new laws commissioners ? I think this will cause more tax dollars to retrieve the garbage from where it does not belong or cause yards to become nothing but junk. If you drive the roads today and are in a vehicle that you can see down in the ditches you find all kinds of trash bags, tires, household appliances and who knows what else so I think this will only make it worse.
why do they want to shoot so much,
officers when do have to shoot a person isnt at very close range,
do they plan on start shooting more people,
didnt hear this at election night
Honestly, Tom, your Saturday morning plans are boring compared to the pumpkim drop. So why don't you jazz it up some, put on a Turkey custome and give away free frozen turkeys and lots of people would probably show up.
Maybe....give a nice prize to whomever brings in & donates the LARGEST frozen turkey. You might then accrue enough to give to many neady families. Maybe even a prize for most potatoes, bisquits & other fixings.
I think the burn ordinance proposed is ridiculous. If people were ignoring burn ban during the dry spell, what makes anyone think they will obey a new law passed that says it isn't allowed. What are the farmers supposed to do with the brush piles and tree stumps when they clear tree lines, etc. I'm sure they will all pay to have the debris trucked out...but where is it going to go? We have trash pickup but still burn all of the paper trash. What will the rules include? No trash, no brush, no bonfires? Who decides what is okay and what isn't okay? Tires are already illegal to burn, but people do it all the time so who is going to enforce this new ordinance?
Since Harold Welter is doing ball games on the internet would it not be possible to move his Saturday program to the internet too. You have a marvelous person on in the morning who is taken off when sports comes on. Lets face it the program is mostly for the kids parents. Why should the rest of us suffer when we want to hear Tom, and music? I think if Harold put his Saturday show on the internet it would be, as he said this week, a win, win for everyone. Please think about this!
I think that Tom Berg ads a lot to your radio station but I also think Harold Welter does to. I think high school sports would sink without Harold talking about it. I might follow him to the internet but wonder how many old people would. I vote for Harold being on the radio. He builds up youths.
IS THE COUNTY GOING TO PICK UP OUR LEAVES AND BRANCHES LIKE THEY DO IN TOWN.WE HAVE TO DISPOSE OF THEM SOME WAY. THE COMPOST IN KNOX SAYS CITY OF KNOX. NOT EVERYONE IS ABLE TO LOAD AND DELIVER THERE LEAVES,BRANCHES,AND CLIPPINGS TO WHERE.
The best part of Saturday morning is listening to Harold Welter talk sports.
I too, am grateful for all Mr. Welter's years of serving Starke Co Sports radio(though I've wished MANY times He was Pro-Knox, but understand the "un-biasedness)...& love his "Keeping the Faith" motto. I'd love to see a Local Sports Tab on the website to get all the local scores. Not saying WKVI has to have a reporter at every event, but if people called in to report scores, couldn't they easily be posted? It would really give our Jr.High kids alot of pride to see their scores on there.
I really don't think that any trash that's "recyclable" needs to be burned. It's really a common sense issue...anything possibly toxic...don't burn. But there's much trash that is burnable. But this, in no way, should ban the ability to burn leaves & brush.
just read the post by the woman who doesn't like sports. I love hearing Tom talk about dropping the pumpkin and Harold talking about shooting the pumpkin.
no burning is good idea
should include making starke county a smoke free county, this would include cars with children in them
the most economic sound counties in indiana are smoke free, so the its hurts business defense is wrong, it helps business
The burn ban is carrying things a little too far. With the economy the way it is, alot of people cannot afford to have their garbage picked up. I do agree that some things should not be burned, but a burn ban is crazy. People will be throwing it along the roadside just to get rid of it. Or they will be trying to drop it off in someone elses dumpster. I hope the commissioners will look at this from the less fortunate side.
I agree that the burn ban is not acceptable. I don't burn, but am considering it since my garbage pick-up bill has increased. I may not be able to afford it much longer and I guess burning will be my only option. I think most people know what is illegal to burn and won't do it.
If the county can ban all burning, then it should ban all liquor sales too. Doesn't drinking liquor do more damage to the citizens of the county by creating a need for law enforcement. Doesn't it create human grief when a drunk must drive home? Why don't the county police just stake out the local drink holes at closing time? Don't those people have to drive home sometime? Do they care for themselves or others in that condition? I am sure banning the sales of liquor would offend those who make money selling it and those who must have it to live. A clerk in the Wal Mart says people will come in with food stamps and then pull out $200 for beer, what is wrong with that picture. I am sure the commissioners would not even consider banning liquor sales, and it kills lots more than fire does!
Since Thanksgiving is coming, Tom, are you getting the day off with pay, or as the new man there...do you have to work. If so perhaps, Ted Hayes could bring you food, after all Thanksgiving is Turkey day and he shouldn't expect you to actually spend your hard earned money on a purchased meal even if it will get publicity over the radio! Or maybe he should give you a Thanksgiving Bonus so you can dine out on the Radio Station's expense account! You earned it so you can let him read this and see if it works!
The last time the county considered a burning ban, it was dropped by the commissioners, perhaps because it drew lots of negative opinions! So voice you opinion to the commissioners and if it does not work this time, vote against them at the next election! We live in America and our opinions as voters should count!
There's always some stupid person who moves here from the "Big City" who thinks their way is better. We'll we were here first. Nobody told you to move here. If you don't like the fact that people in the country burn their trash and leaves then move back to where you came from. It's those people who come here and want to make a big deal out of nothing. Sounds like the same problem Knox had with wood burners. Come on commissioners, worry about real problems.
No kiddin. WHAT A JOKE. Get off our backs on the leaf burning. It's bad enough charging us $28 for "Solid Waste" that we don't even need, for our oil & tires are left at the shop where we have them changed. Just another example of the Gov't sticking their fingers in EVERY aspect of OUR SUPPOSEDLY FREE LIVES. We definbitely need LESS Gov't.
They dug up 650 East just east of 10 to put in a connection to the sewer line and covered it up with stone. My question is don't you have to re-asphalt/
I live in Railroad Township, I know that it's illegal to leave a fire unattended anywhere in this country. But, My neighbors still feel the need to burn, they burn leaves, grass, and even garbage. Last year my neighbor's burning spread to her shed and burnt it up along with an expensive boat. Even after that, they still burn stuff. It smolders and is extremely unhealthy. My house smells like it's on fire, even with the windows shut tight. It's unbelievably inconsiderate. My question is, Is there any ordinances or laws that can be enforced to get this stopped? Thank you for any input.
Either the Commissioners should have curbside leaf pickup in the county or we should be allowed to bag leaves and get them picked up with our garbage. As far as placing a ban on burning, I know here at Bass Lake it would ruin everything if we couldn't have bonfires.
No to burn ban. Unless the commissioners would like to come out here and pick up my downed and dead trees, my many acres of leaves, the wild and dead brush. And while they are doing this they may as well pick up my garbage to because I am sure it cost less to pick up in town than out in the county
Good job on the food collection from Five Star, but fellows in order to be as hugable as Ted Hayes, you must live in our county upwards to 40 years and lose a lot of hair; however, if you could get Ed H. to grow a beard--he would make a Great Santa Claus, so work on Him! Ted and Ed have been quite a team for too many years, study those two and learn to Smile through all those annoying callers!
Yeah....since I was a kid....Ted always treated us, even as teenagers, w/ the same respect & smile as he does today, & that I am grateful for. He's always one of the most positive, optimistic & respectful people I've known in my life-long residency in Knox. And even if the situation was negetive...he'd just smile, kinda grimace...then move on to a positive topic. Just a great spirited fella. Thanks Ted
The burn ban is a bad idea. If you don't think people will throw trash & garbage along the roads & ditches take a ride on 300E to the Robins ditch. If going north look to the right just before crossing the ditch, beyond the double gates, a huge pile of garbage ( I mean huge )in the woods is spilling over falling into the ditch. An illegal dump site & Starke Co. taxpayers pay to have the ditch cleaned out( drainage fee or tax ).
This is a real educational site, in my humorous invitation to capture a turkey with a net...I have learned it is illegal to net a turkey and would probably be dangerous too. So many hunters see the turkeys on private land and want to hunt them, I suppose it is safer to shot them with a gun or bow and arrow. I do know that the season to hunt turkeys is very short in the spring and fall, but even 50 years ago there were no turkeys to hunt in Indiana, so now a few people blame the turkeys for destoying a watermelon patch when actually the turkeys I have seen just pick all around and never attack any flowers or vegetables. If my source is correct, turkeys perfer insects so they help the land as insects outnumbers humans and animals. It is likely that crows did the damage, the crows will call loudly when they see the turkeys below. But a crow will pick and pick until it reaches the ripe watermelon. The crows actually told me when my melons were ripe this year by picking some, one even after it was hidden in weeds. A crow has the ability to smell, they are larger birds up close. One neighbor who had never grown melons shot all of his chickens and then found out it was the crows that was destorying his melons. Deers also will stomp and eat melons, they smell better than other things. We all provide lots of field corn and other crops for those deer and pay property tax on the land they travel, so everybody and his neighbor who sees deers or turkeys thinks they should be allowed to hunt. And a few hunters is o.k. but too many in a field could be dangerous, so have mercy on the farmers who try to obey the laws and ask only for respect. And forgive the misbegotten humor displayed here, after all one should always be sober, a complainer and a bad person who listens to the radio station asking for comments here all day and night long.
I would also like to publicly thank the California Township firemen who came out and quickly did a great job of putting out a bush fire that I accidently set. Our California Township Trustee is a very nice, polite lady who helped the firemen save for the two fire stations. I thank them and I will be sending them a donation as I would not like to think what might have happened had we not had an area fire department. I learned a valueable lesson and I hope the Bass Lake Fire Dept. is not taken over by the state.
This morning you had a story about the courthouse needing to be ADA compliant and the problems that some are experiencing when visiting the building. You also mentioned that this was the second such complaint, with the Starke Co Jail being the other building. Am I missing something? Everytime I go past the jail I can't tell where this new ADA upgrade has occurred. It seems to me that if you have a disablility, you are out of luck for visiting someone incarcerated or even going downstairs to talk with the prosecutor. Can someone tell me where this new upgrade is located?
In my opinion the burn ban idea is so far out touch with the people of this county. It is one more thing they want to do to protect us from ourselves and not work on the real issues. This is because they know better. This is just another waste of time and money. Our elected officials will go on impose their will upon us as long as we allow them take our rights away. But we keep voting in the same inept type of leaders. Thanks for the opportunity to vent
About the gas prices:
I worked at a gas station in town for awhile and I was also curious of why some places were cheaper than Knox..I come to find out why..
At the gas station I worked at the owner didn't have any control over the gas pumps..he didn't even own them. A gas company calls the station and sets the prices in which they want to set gas. Since Knox is a smaller town..they figure they can charge more because people would be less likely to drive to bigger towns to fill up. The owners of the gas stations have to pay the gas companies for the gas and the purchases they may get some kind of profit off of it but idk how much. The gas pumps attract in customers to their convience stores which they profit off of.
I hoped this helped understand why we're more expensive for gas here rather than Plymouth, Valpo and surrounding areas. However, I agree IT SUCKS!
How is it Starke County courts can reduce a dead beat dad's child support to zero just because he is locked up for a few months?Add it to his back support. The child's needs (especially a child with autism) does not stop because the dad is in jail.I don't feel sorry for him if he was dumb enough to do what he did to get arrested anyway.
Tom, great job reorganizing the website. And this is advise you that a current type of flu begins with sneezing with just a bit of a rough throat but the voice does get rough sounding, this will be followed with a fever, so take asperin or another fever reducer as the fever occurs. Usually the fever part is just a day or two, but the body aches a lot and drink lots of liquors like tea and usually with a day or two of bed rest, it will be over within a week if you do not have any other chronic diseases to complicate it.
I survived it about 3 wks. ago and it went thru our church, which I skipped on the Sunday morning that I had a fever as some very frail older people attend and I did not want to give it to them. When my mother was alive and very frail, she would get sick very fast so staying home and doctoring yourself helps everybody. Did you know that while you was doing a very good deed of accepting money and food for the pantry, you were exposing yourself to lots of germs. Paper money has been shown to have lots of germs, and once as a cashier I acquired lots of interesting viruses that I survived. So if you can rest, relax and be quietly home in a warm bed, the current strain of flu can be over--just a memory of the misery it caused. So take, Tom, be careful,we all like you and your humor as the morning man on WKVI.
WKVI..... You should be ashamed!!! You know where (I will bet) around 2/3 of the food that was raised came from!! Yet all you do is plug the businesses that were involved. The people of North judson donated the majority of the food. What around 1270 pieces?? Which is probably 8-900 pounds of your total of 1200lbs the organization that aquired it for you got slighted on this one, and I will be talking to the leaders about future ventures with your BUSINESS!!
You may not post this but, my child worked hard to raise that food and you have taken advantage of him to make these businesses look good!
So you need to know that there are people in the community that expect you to make the effort to recognize those children that did the work!
I hope you do the right thing!
In posting that I was venting and should not have been so hard on WKVI It was frustrating to hear the last couple days about the local businesses that helped but not the scouts. It isnt about recognition moreso about the community getting what it needs. I was wrong to say things the way I did and want to apologize. I hope I did not hurt the name of the pack. They do work very hard. Thank you WVKI for calling me out and I hope You accept my apology
Last night, my sister was involved in an accident along 200 South. This hasn't been the first accident that has occured down that road in the exact same spot that they wrecked, a few months ago a man died there. I know of alot more accidents that have occured along this road due to the deep and dangerous ditches. I think that Starke County should put up guard rails along these and other deep ditches across the county. Its horrible down that road in the winter time. People can easily slid off and get horribly injured because its a long fall and the ditches are filled with water. I think that this should be brought up to someones attention.
I agree that it isn't about WHERE the food came from as much as it is that the county came together and provided for the less fortunate. Our county gets a lot of negative attention and doesn't get the positive attention that the citizens deserve. I,for one, feel very lucky to live in such a caring county. I thank WKVI for their participation in helping where help is needed. Thanks guys!!!!
In regard to the burn ban
Let me make sure I understand this correctly; the state has a law that their officers can't or won't enforce so our commissioners are in the process of making a local ordinance with fines so our sheriff's dept. will enforce
We've lost two officer positions so they could protect our inmates in the jail now our police force with less officers are going to be checking our burn barrels for illegal burning and collecting fines instead of all of the other duties like patrolling for burglaries and the many juvenile crimes you read about in the weekly police reports. What a waste of time and resources...
It is good to give credit to the people that help raise money and food for the pantry. But the scouts should have been announced as helping. Children love to hear that their efforts are appreciated. Give praise any time that young children, youth and teenagers do a good thing. This will help them feel important in our communities. Lets treat them with respect.
to the sheriffs dept employee who posted the concern about the officers not haveing enough time to do their jobs. If you don;t want to uphold the laws of the state of indiana then get a different job . I think you first better look at the number of hours your officess are driving around the county and the number of arrest or traffice stops they make, maybe 1 a day for all the officers . Can't say their over worked
It was nice to hear two wkvi men discussing their holiday with their family particularly their mothers and grandmas, but if either one gets any sicker, perhaps postponing celebrating Thanksgiving would be better to get better and not expose Grandma to new germs. Grandmas probably would try and doctor you, and maybe her loving you is all you need. But whatever have a Great Thanksgiving Day!
I'm really not sure if the blog to vicki is for me...but just letting you know...I was not the person who blogged about school board members not being at any of the games...quite frankly, I don't even know who all the school members are and could care less if anyone attended. I wouldn't go if my kid wasn't playing.
The Real Vickie
This is your Gov't speaking.....& we just want to say THANKS for GIVING us all your tax dollars. Keep it rolling...cause we're spending it months.....even years, ahead of collecting it.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Starke County!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are lots of positive things that our local police officiers and firemen do beyond just arrest criminals and maintain the local jail. All of us living in or out of this county have or will have to sooner or later go to a funeral of a family member or a friend, and when a person's body is taken to a cemetery, every intersection has a police car with an officer stopping traffic as a sign of respect for those grieving. Most people know to stop for a funeral but sometimes it might be dangerous or somebody might decide they do not have too unless it is a member of their family being buried. Also police officers, fire dept. paramedics and related ambulances go to help look for lost people==a child or older person--they are very nice to come and help load an older person into an ambulance. These are not unimportant duties that most help out with and at times, it is such a sad event when they have fatal car accidents such as one that took seven lives several years ago on Christmas Eve. In the olden days, when there was fewer people and everybody knew all of their neighbors==neighbors helped others at the saddest time of a local family's sorrow--it was love and respect, we owe lots of our local and state officers our respect because they have families and they are often in dangerous situations that could end badly, it does not seem like every family would want their family members doing the jobs that the police and firemen offer to us here in Starke County and all of the United States. To Thank them because nobody can understand their job unless you are doing what they do every day. I am sure they like days that are quiet and boring, it means all of us are safe for the moment. Not all events are man made, there are lots of them out all night after a storm closes down a lot of roads, we as humans do not always use good judgement and get out on bad roads and need to be rescued. However, WKVI's announcers are also very quick to warn people of bad conditions, it does pay to listen to their weather report even if you have no computer.
I want to thank Ted Hayes for putting the shop locally message on the news. When local organizations want help they don't go to stores in Valparaiso or South Bend for donations.
Thanks WKVI you're the greatest!
A local businessman.
The new web site is clean and easy to read. Here are two suggestions: At the bottom of the long pages of news, etc., add a link to click on to navigate "BACK TO TOP OF PAGE." Also, I did not find anywhere to -- contact the webmaster ---, where these suggestions should have been sent, not in the discussion forum.
I read this discussion board to see what is going on in the community that I live in, but it ends up being one persons understanding of an event or situation. If something is not correct please do not open your mouth about things that you are not positive about. With this in mind, please do not post hear-say.
About the food drive and the Scouts; if the Scouts were truly collecting items for the food pantry with their hearts it would not matter that they were not recognized. People who are true of heart do not have to be thanked for what they do. The only person that matters is God and HE knows who did what.
I am a good person and I do not expect the money, time, clothing, and food items that I donate to be publicized. I know what I did and did not do.
With all of this in mind, the holiday season is all about doing what we can for our families, beautiful community, and people in need. This means to do things and not expect to be compensated, be grateful for the police in Knox and not complain about them, and not complain about taxes.
Is there any way the sports section could post the schedule of games for the week, instead of just the ones being broadcast????
Is there any reason why the basketball scores aren't posted? Is it because Judson won this year?
The basketball score WAS posted on the sports section.
You mean this game? The scores that were posted yesterday?

I just wanted everyone to know that the 20 yr. old that was involved in the burglaries with the twin Bastin boys has finally been arrested. For some reason, you liked reporting about the twins, but not this other boy. Just sayin.......
I must say that I enjoy getting on here and reading all the comments. It really makes the month go fast!!! I start reading the first comments, and before I know it, it is the end of the month!!! It's a good way to keep me busy and relaxing at the same time!
Great job on Saturday morning WKVI. The Christmas music and Tom and Ted's description of what was happening at Hensler's really put me in the Christmas mood. You guys are the tops!
I agree that the scouts shouldnt be looking for recognition. However as it was read it was a parent of a scout that was looking for the recognition. Furthermore if I remember correctly there were a couple of businesses getting recognition on the radio...... If you give any recognition you should give it to everyone. I think people should know what the non for profits are doing to help the communities and that donations are worthwhile to these organizations. The recognition is worthwhile but should not be demanded.
We should take the time to appreciate these volunteers and what they do as well as the businesses and what they do for our community!
So Thank you to WKVI,Five Star, A Step In Time, The Cub Scouts, Love Inc, Rays Super Foods, NJ Foods, Dollar General, All those that donated monies. I am sorry I cannot remember the collection points at Bass Lake and Ancilla college. But them too! If I have forgotten anyone please post as you all deserve to be thanked for your donations of time and efforts in helping our needy during the holiday season.
God Bless You all!
The FEMA stories, concentration camps, trailer, caskets, etc. is a frace. Google & research. Just more people wanting to spread fear. But it's still wise for everyone to grow closer in Jesus Christ. But our economy & society is built on faith. Faith in people, faith in the future, faith in our Gov't, and we can not, no matter how bad the media makes it seem, we must ALWAYS keep our Faith in Jesus, our fellow man, and this wonderful country we're so blessed to live in. That's the point of having Faith, in believing that no matter how difficult the situation, that we will persevere, even if we can't immediately see the answer. So Have FAITH!
I believe people really do donate for others from the heart. As for thank you's it is always nice to express that to the donors. What would our world be like if we didn't thank those who are so willing to give a part of their money to help others in need. It will be a sad world if everyone thinks it is not nice to receive thanks. Please be respectful of others feelings on this website. The Cub Scouts were giving from their hearts. It saddens me to think people would object to them getting a thank you.
nice upgrade to the website,.,
Maybe people need recognition, but if you give from the heart, then I don't think recognition is necessary. You will know that you contributed and that should be reward enough. Doing good for the public aknowledgment is not doing it for the right reasons.
The police report archive is not working.
the new website sucks
What has happened to the North Judson Police reports? It seems to have been replaced by Hamlet?
There is a problem with the radio news vs your website news. Your announce said the Washington Twp. Fire Chief is Captain Joe Short, but you have printed the name as Stuart Short. Unless there are two different captains it is a mistake, because the area Joe Short's father was Stuart, so maybe there are brothers on the fire department. Just though I would let you know! The previous A.M. morning man would just say I don't write the news, I just read it!
Just curious - who can get WKVI's 1520 AM in their homes? I cannot in San Pierre - or in my office in North Judson.
I have been listening to the live cast on your website, which is better reception than on my radio. However! I haven't heard a song clear through - a commercial clear through - or the news clear through. One song or commercial overlaps the one before.
Come on people, do you not gve thanks and praise to your children when they do a good job, get good grades in school. Help the grandparents with their yards, Why do think that will hurt them if you give them thanks. I for one thank everyone who holds a door open for me. I also thank everyone that treats me with respect. Our cub scouts were doing a good deed and deserve that thank you from the public. Heaven forbid you ever need a thank you.
Thanks for the update on the AM stream. The issue has been fixed.
I have fixed the issue on the AM and AM Stream. I love computers and then I hate computers. Thanks for your help!!
The key word here is PUBLIC recognition. I agree that Thanks are very important, but they need to come from the reciever, not necessarily publicly broadcast.
Thanks, Lenny! It's good to be able to hear a segment clear through!
ok everyone line up,
pat, pat, pat, pat, kick in the butt, pat, and 23 more pats
now everyone happy
Again, A quick reminder. Before you post, check the WKVI website first before you blast them for not running a story. They did report on the arrest, they did report the sports score, the police reports are current.
Anyone heard of any jobs around here? Can't find anything. Help
Thanks
