I'm tired of these people talking on cell phones while driving. I think they should get pulled over just like drunk drivers,it does impair their driving just like a drunk driver.

Think of your fellow man
Lend him a helping hand
Put a little love in your heart

You see it's getting late
Oh please don't hesitate
Put a little love in your heart

And the world will be a better place
And the world will be a better place
For you and me
You just wait and see

Another day goes by
And still the children cry
Put a little love in you heart
If you want the world to know
We won't let hatred grow
Put a little love in your heart

And the world will be a better place
And the world will be a better place
For you and me
You just wait and see
Wait and see

Take a good look around
And if you're lookin' down
Put a little love in your heart

I hope when you decide
Kindness will be your guide
Put a little love in your heart

And the world will be a better place
And the world will be a better place
For you and me
You just wait and see

Happy April 1!

April Fool's Day is very interesting this year, strange that Mrs. Hayes reports Ted in the shower at the same time that WKVI is reporting HIM locked in his office. What a disappointment you all are this year....so where do we report false broadcasting on the air....................I dare you to post this!

Anonymous said...

If the half-hour time change isn't an April fool joke, it is probably the dumbest thing Indiana or any other state has tried to do.

Anonymous said...

I am beginning to think April Fool's day is a very depressing tradition. The fact that anyone could even remotely believe "bovine time" is true scares me. Please be more creative next time!

Anonymous said...

thanks wkvi its was no farm aid but i enjoyed it

Anonymous said...

I don't mean to be mean, but when I heard about the "Bovine Time", I thought, there goes the Democrats again! Seems like every time you here a Kooky idea, it's them behind it. I guess I was fooled.

Anonymous said...

It's no more kooky than driving 5 miles east and losing an hour. No more kooky than leasing a road, then having to pay to drive on that road. Wanna talk about kooky.

Anonymous said...

Kooky? The gop is killing our schools, our unions and our economy and people still call dems kooky, wow those policies are actually against average people so what would you call republicans?

Anonymous said...

Why can't the whole world be on the same time? When it's 8AM in Tokyo, it should be 8AM here in Knox. Oh, I forgot. They say the world is round, so it would probably be night here. I suppose our kids would have to be in school instead of sleeping, but that's a small price to pay for everyone being on the same time.

Anonymous said...

You would call Republicans true Americans who are interested in keeping the government the way it was suppose to be...for the people.

Anonymous said...

If public schools can't compete, with the billions of taxpayer dollars that they have to work with, against little charter schools, then we need to change things. Republicans understand that. Democrats don't.

Anonymous said...

Okay let's change things by taking away money from public schools and giving it to charter schools.Let's take care of the rich, republicans understand that, for sure.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Republicans are anymore true Americans than Democrats. I mean they're both controlled by greed. The only difference is where that greed comes from.

Anonymous said...

The comment about both Republicans and Democrats being greedy was well put. It isn't so much what our politicians believe in or not. Their main difference stems from who lines their campaign coffers. Combine that with Super-Sized egos and you have the recent situation in Indianapolis. It was such a fine example of working together and leading by example. But then the things that apply to us common folk don't apply to the people we elect. Did you know smoking is banned in the Indiana state legislature, except when the legislature is in session? I think that says it all.

Anonymous said...

The bill for charter schools is a bill for the poor and middle class. Without the bill, only the rich can afford to send their kids to private schools. With the bill, we give thousands of dollars to the poor and middle class to give their kids a better education. Since Democrats claim to be the advocates for the poor, they should be in favor of the bill. This bill is trying to give EVERY child in Indiana a chance at a better education. It isn't taking money from public education, it is putting money in the pockets, and the power, in the hands of the parents of every student to chose the best education for their own student. Maybe that is how we should define the term "public" education. Power to the people!

Anonymous said...

If that's true about charter schools then where is the closest one to Starke County.Would that be CMA? What the bill will really do is divide the middle class. The smarter kids have a chance to move up. The others will likely stay poor.I'm thinking a two class society. Hey just like China. Now if we could just figure out a way to bust those pesky Unions. Power To Who???????

Anonymous said...

Who said Charter Schools provided a better education? Check their scores. Most score at the bottom of all the schools in Indiana.

Anonymous said...

Shouldn't every parent have the opportunity to send their child/children to a school of their own choosing, or should we let the government decide, based on pure geographical luck what school a child must attend and the curriculum and the teachers? Yes, parents should get a choice. Shouldn't the parents receive the tax money that would be spent on education or their child back from the government to implement their decision, or should the government force the parent to pay once via taxes and again in the form of tuition? No, parents should get a voucher. If I had had the choice during the time that my kids were going to school, I wouldn't have chosen public schools. The level of education is sub-standard when compared to that of the rest of the world and I consider the level of customer service to be generally bad. A little competition would be a good thing. We need to make a change.

Anonymous said...

Well if they aren't any better then why are we taking from public schools and giving to charter schools. If this is just happening in Indiana that will explain alot about what's really going on.

Anonymous said...

If charter schools test so poorly then why the big push to give them more money.I mean what's so great about them then.

Anonymous said...

The great thing about charter schools is that they are FOR PROFIT businesses. The people who run charter schools can put your tax money where it really belongs--in the pockets of the business people who run them.

Anonymous said...

If, in fact, charter schools perform so poorly, then why are the all-powerful, superior, public schools scared of them? Let the bill pass. It will obviously be a non-factor, because parents will chose the superior public school over the rotten charter schools. It's like the Yankees complaining about a rule that would let their players transfer to Kansas City. Who cares about the rule. If the public school advocates who post on here are right, nobody will transfer their kids to charter schools. Or, could it be, that they aren't so sure of their claim that public schools are better, and they are a little bit scared of the competition?

Anonymous said...

Public schools AREN'T for profit??? Check the teacher income of more prominent schools, like Penn. Public schools watch their enrollment, adsences, truency & even snow days VERY intensely, because each factor dictates how much State $ they get. So don't tell us $ is not a factor. I'm for the choice of tax$ going to school of choice. Should I not be elgible for tax$ if I'd like my kids to attend a Christian school? It's America...MY CHOICE! Why do you think so many more parents are Home Schooling? We're not happy with the morale decay of the curriculum, as society has STEADILY declined since The Bible was taken out of public school in 1962. There should AT LEAST be Bible based classes that parents can CHOOSE for their children. What about a class that teaches Morales, Respect, Discipline, Consequences, Goal Making, Self-Respect, Integrity, Abstinance, Character, Composure, Generosity & other positive qualities, because kids are NOT learning this at home. This should be a MANDATORY class for ALL 7th graders & Freshman, for this is the age when temptations arise, and I seriously believe a class of this nature would impact our children for a lifetime. Call it Essential Human Qualities Class. This is called "planting positive seeds", & it is contageous. I SERIOUSLY HOPE THE SCHOOL BOARD SEE'S THIS & TAKES IT SERIOUSLY, FOR IT COULD IMPACT OUR SOCIETY FOR GENERATIONS. Git-R-Dun!

It's actually all quite simple, the Dem.s are too far left, & the Rep.s are too far right. The Dem.s are too much "easy hand-outs", & the Rep.s are too corporate. And most of all, GOV'T HAS GROWN WAY TOO LARGE. Everything needs a dose of common sense, with alterior motives tossed to the wayside. A few ideas..1. Those on Welfare & any Gov't assistance, accountability is key. If able, schooling, community service, proven employment effort, drug testing & other factors in order to receive Gov't taxpayer handouts. Many are very capable of taking care of themselves. This is called "Societal Obesity", as they are dead weight on our economy. 2. No More Lobbiests. Are we naive to believe that Big Business does not affect corrupt legislation? Please..we've even seen it on a local level. And NO MORE back-pocket/personal campaign contributions. Give all identical budgets. NO OFFICE SHOULD BE BOUGHT! Even the playing field, let us choose solely on character, their personal beliefs & plans for office. $ should NOT dictate leadership. 3. Have many solutions on the Medical Field, such as procedures should have a set cost. We have WAY TOO MANY MIDDLEMEN in the Insurance business, too many "greedy hands" in the cookie jar. Streamline. But Obama's plan is outlandish, as it will GROW THE GOV'T EXPOTENTIALY, & Med.care will lose quality, as decisions on your health will be made by people 1000's of miles away. Not Good. And Dr.'s should not be saddled with 6 figure Student Loans, as they've become Big Biz. Why do you think you can't file bankruptcy on them??? 4.Worker's Comp. Ins. should be abolished. It's a racket, & a huge factor deterring business growth. Integrate it into personal Insurance Plans through employers. Also lower Corporate Tax from 35% to 20%(though many seem to evade paying any taxes). 5. FLAT TAX ACROSS THE BOARD OF 10%. It would diminish the IRS by 75%, & the beauracratic paper trail by 90%. 6. Take back our Federal Reserve. 75% of "our" Fed.Res. loans went to foreign banks, while Americans struggle to get loans. google Federal Reserve Act of 1913. We DON'T own our currency system, & the IRS doesn't work for us. Every dime of taxpayer$ goes to pay the interest on the loans from "our" Fed. How free are we? Will WKVI have the courage to post this?

I agree people should get pulled over if seen talking on the phone ! Or they set at stop signs and signals texting not paying a bit of attention to what it going on around them. If it is so important they need to talk and text all the time stay home and do it or pull over and let us that take our driving serious have the right of way instead of waiting for you to decide to move at the light or drive like a snail while talking.
What did we used to do we waited to get to a land line phone and conduct our business.
Further more the cell phones are getting to be very expensive to have but they wont get rid of them but continue to complain of grocery prices , gas prices and so on. If you cant afford things that are a nessicity in life then get rid of the phones.

Anonymous said...

YOU may choose a charter school, but the charter school may not choose you. It is my understanding that the charter schools have the option of admitting or denying any student THEY choose.

Anonymous said...

Public schools: 30-40 kids per class. Private schools: 10-20 kids per class. One Teacher. Do I need to say more? I went to BOTH. I beleive that there is less "falling through the cracks" in private school. Plus, there won't be BULLIES tolerated in private school. They nip that problem in the bud immediately! Beleive me, bullies can hinder a child's education worse than a bad teacher OR bad funding!!!!

Anonymous said...

the problems with failing schools is the worthless parents, no deciple at home then they complain when their kids get in trouble at school, its the teacher or bus drivers fault.

Anonymous said...

I went to a private school. My parents wanted that type of education for me and they worked hard to pay the tuition to send me there. They didn't ask for the government to pay for a choice that they made. The ACLU defends the separation of church and state vehemently, but how can it be a separation if public tax money is going to private, religious schools? You want to keep God and religion out of public schools, but you'll agree to send public money to Christian schools. Does this make any sense? And, those of you who are in support of charter schools, you may have smaller classes, but did you know that the teachers don't have to have teaching licenses? They don't have to know anything about teaching, classroom management, or working with students who struggle with learning. A smaller class isn't everything.

I suggest that you educate yourselves about the FACTS before jumping on the voucher/charter school bandwagon.

Anonymous said...

its all part of the master plan to not allow church schools to mention God. i think you figured it out, right or wrong i am running with it. thanks

Anonymous said...

It's not about kids switching to charter schools, it's about taking money away from public schools. Since your going with a baseball analogy it would be like gutting the Yankees budget and forcing them to give it to Kansas City so Kansas City could lure the best players there. They could then turn away the more average players.

Anonymous said...

I look at this whole charter school-public school thing like this. It takes parents being involved, teachers who care, students who try. You can take money from the bloated public school budget and throw it at charter schools and what have you really done, nothing but move money around.

Anonymous said...

The money for vouchers would be hurtful to the public schools. The charter schools don't HAVE to provide an education to ALL students that come in the door.

So if the state gives x dollars per child to the public school. And that amount is not taken away and given to a charter school, then a deficit is left at the public school.

I support vouchers, but a better thought out plan.

Does anyone else get annoyed by those Rose City Motors commercials, and that North Clark dude. I don't want no used car salseman bringing a car to my house.

Anonymous said...

my thought on the whole public vs. private school thing is its all about the wealthy and upper middle class. put down your voter ballots and think about it !!!!! lets say youre a single parent making <20k a year...now lets say precious junior gets the chance to go to Snooty Prep.... THE BEST school around and its only 45 minutes from home!!! but wait ! you work 10 hour days just to keep your head above water and the hours are 6am til 4:30pm and your car isnt exactly up to 1 1/2 hours of extra driving a day let alone the extra tank a week. and oh wait they dont have a bus route to you. SOOOOOOOOO tell me how does anyone get thier kid there without being in the upper echelon of society ? im sure some tool on here will have a smartalic comment on it but think about it on the poorer side if you can and youll see what im saying. ALSO and i know im not the only one that thinks this but if we had more teachers out there that teach with the philosophy that you want to make a difference instead of what a killer way to make 30k and have your summers off im sure the public schools wouldnt be in the trouble they are in today. maybe there shouldnt be any such thing as tenure and they should be treated like any other employee with exception to government workers DO YOUR JOB OR HIT THE BRICKS ! simple as that.

On Wednesday the House amends and votes on Teacher Collective Bargaining, and on Thursday the Senate has scheduled a hearing on School Corporation Health Insurance.

This afternoon I found this website:

http://www.publicschoolspending.com/collective-bargaining-agreements/indiana/

The site provides a copy of local school Teacher Contracts. I was surprised with the benefits many contained (i.e., all or a large portion of health insurance premiums paid by the school corporation (individual and family), vision, dental, life, and disability insurance provided at a cost of $1 to the employee, guaranteed increase in pay each year, maximum teaching hours per day, "no student interruption time" provided, etc.). With "school general fund expenditures for fiscal year 2010 about $6.8 Billion, of which $6.1 Billion were for salaries and fringe benefits" (Legislative Services Agency, Office of Fiscal and Management Analysis), it will be interesting to see how legislators handle the bargaining and insurance issues.

It's not only the wealthy that can put their children in private school! My Mom was a single mother, worked 2 jobs and made the SACRIFICE to put me in private school. That was way before parents needed all their little gadgets to pay for first. (Cell phones, internet accounts, tanning, specialty coffees......)You may be born poor, but it's up to each person in this country if they want to stay poor. Stop acting like "poor" is a terminal disease that people have to live with! A lot of wealthy people have come from RAGS!

With today's technology I have the foresight to know that "Virtual Teachers" in the classroom are on the horizon. With all the cutbacks how can 1 teacher in the classroom teach 35+ students? If you have a child thinking about going into the teaching profession tell them NO!!! Unfortunately my daughter didn't heed my advice, and now she is strapped with all of her student loans, and for what!?!

Anonymous said...

LOL you just made my day about the Rose City Motor commericals and North Clark. Does that not seem like such a "scamming" car company or what?! He seems like he is entirely phoney and willing to "hand deliver" a piece of junk veeehicle to you so it can be taken off the truck..work for a few days and then bam.. randomly the transmission goes out.

Anonymous said...

The dollars don't go to Charter schools or to "church" schools or any kind of school at all. The dollars go to parents. The parents aren't required to maintain a church/state separation as they are not acting on behalf of the government. They act on behalf of their children. The parents may then use the money to fund a private education at whatever type of school they choose.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone else think it's tacky to put election signs in their yards? Like, if someone see it, they are going to change their views and vote for that person. I doubt it. WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, WHY DON'T YOU PUT UP A SIGN IN YOUR YARD WITH ALL YOUR OTHER BELIEFS? My parents always said it was tacky to spout off your political opinions without being asked or engaged in political conversation. Well, I'm sure it all makes for a great neighborhood atmosphere.

You know what I'm tired of..... going to Five Star and standing behind someone with a boat load of groceries that included cases of name-brand soda, bags of name-brand chips, cookies, candy, and prime cuts of meat.... then to have the person paying pull out their Indiana foodstamp card to pay for it all... all while talking on their iPhone.... As a single WORKING mother - I'm doing everything I can to get by and have to pinch my pennies to put food on my table... I feel that hey - maybe if I quit my job my family and I would eat like kings!!!

reguarding unemployment compensation: I agree that many of the prople that remain on unemployment would be able to find work at a number of places. However. If you look at the numbers, it is easy to see why they choose to remain on unemployment rather than work. Most of those people are able to collect more pay from benefits that they would working. So where is the incentive to work ? It was stated that after a person exausted their 99 weeks of benefits, they "miraculously" obtained a job at a fast food establishment. I would bet that this person was paid more on unemployment that they are being paid now. If this person has a family to take care of, can you really blame them for doing so? It is true that there are many that simply abuse the system, much like any other state or local assistance programs, but how do we seporate these people from the ones that truely need it.? The current system makes it far too easy for people to make false claims of attempting to obtain work, and same agency never checks the information provided reguarding employers listed. Many say that drug testing is the answer. However there are many ways to overcom this issue and as of yet has any effect on the problem. One lawmaker in this area has stated that benefits for SINGLE men and women WITHOUT dependants should be witheld for a period of time whike benefits for those with families should be immediate. Yes, that might curb many claims, but many are not married and are living with their "spouse" and children are involved. So who really is punished in those cases?? The children. Clearly there is no simple answer to this issue. One possible answer is for the government to simply put the funds they are providiing for other countries for "assistance" into programs for THE UNITED STATES instead of countries that would, and do, harm AMERICANS the first chance they get. Just a thought.....

Anonymous said...

My husband was laid off from his job, and yes he used up all of his extensions as well. Why would he choose to take a minimum wage job at a fast food establishment when he would make more collecting unemployment? This is what happens when manufacturers close up the factories here and send the work over to foreign countries because the labor is cheaper. It's a domino effect. America is selling out and we are all going to pay the price...sooner than we think.

Anonymous said...

For those of you that are wondering why gas has climbed to an astronomical price per gallon, I have found the answer. Watch the documentary "Blind Spot" (you can watch for free online). This enlightening documentary forecasts the future of where we are headed.

Anonymous said...

I have found the best place to find jobs is to search online. Indeed.com has a bunch of postings and so does Indianacareerconnect.com. You could also look through the local newspapers. I found my current job through Indiana Career Connect. Unfortunately most people now haven't come to terms that to make a decent living above min. wage, you will have to travel outside the county to do so. Yes, gas is ridiculous too, but if you have a "semi decent" mid size car, traveling to Valpo 5 days a week- I just fill my car up once a week at about $38.

First of all I am NOT a smoker, however, I find that banning smoking from ALL establishments is just plain taking rights from citizans. If an establishment endorses smoking and you don't smoke? Simply don't go to that place. I think individually owned businesses should have the right to decide if they will allow smoking or not. Hasn't the government taken enough from us????

Please look up the smoking bill before you say things that don't make sense. The bill was shot down because of all of the exemptions it had in it. In other words it would still ALLOW smoking in too many public places. It would have been one of the weakest no smoking bills to have ever been passed.

they were bars, casinos, private clubs like moose etc, and nursing homes. you pass what you can now, then next yr chop at it some more, but smoke free was in all factories, bowling allies, all resturants, the places that 90% would enjoy to be smoke free. there is no local nursing home allows indoor smoking anyway, if a guy is 100 yrs old and wants to smoke wheel him outside and say enjoy.

Anonymous said...

Sanitary lines? Is that why I have dirt and leaves backing up into my bath tub as well? I agree with Hamlet citizen, who is gonna pay for the damages to my bathroom floor as well?

Anonymous said...

For those of you that think it is fine if tax dollars go to church run schools because that is where a parent wants there kid to go:

I assume you are also fine with them attending a school run by the KKK, NeoNazis, or any other hate group. Someone who wishes to run a charter school with an agenda geared towards warping young minds has just as much right to tax dollars as a church school as long as they are meeting the same basic educational standards. I certainly wouldn't want my taxes to pay for that.

I find the notion that anyone for separation of church and state ibeing labeled as anti-Christian or anti-God offensive. I am neither. I believe in God, but I also believe that religious beliefs should not be taught in our nations schools. There are vastly different viewpoints. I would not want my child being taught a different view of God at school than we teach at home. Some are more conservative, others not so much. I know from experience how confusing it can be for a child that is taught differing beliefs from adults other than their parents. It can be quite damaging. The parents should make that choice, not administrators or teachers.

Anonymous said...

Oh how nice, I also live in Hamlet and just came home after an 8 hour shift to find I have 3-4" of standing water covering my entire bathroom floor. Had to shut my water supply off to keep it from running out of the toilet bowl. Yeah Hamlet sure is fixing things aren't they.

Anonymous said...

I don't think there should be religious classes in public schools, but I think if a student wants to pray, this should be acceptable. Also, taking GOD out of the pledge of allegiance is a disgrace!!!! If you don't believe in GOD, don't say His name. If this is a free country, then everyone should be able to choose as they please. I think it is a violation of a Christain's rights to remove GOD from the schools!!!!

As to the charter schools, I just read an article in the South Bend Tribune that states that charter schools' teachers don't have to have the same high qualifications that the public school teachers have to have. Also, those kid's test scores, were not higher than the public school kid's scores. So why punish and take away tax dollars from the public schools???

anyone whos wants indiana to spend as usual, all you have to do is just send in with your state income tax an extra $3500 per person in your household, and when you pay your property tax just add and extra 50%, just that simple. and if you're a corporation put all you people as part time and end all insurances, because you are getting close to the 3% of your value tax each year, you dont have to send in any extra, you are one of those evil corporations that all you do is just hire people and pay most of the school tax in your area, you and have a break this year.

here is an interesting note. Who produces the most Chop Stix in the world? if you said China----wrong,
its the United States, isnt that just too weird.

Who really cares if the government shuts down? It is just a scare tactic that has been used many times in the past. It isn't really working that well anyway so maybe we'd be better off without it "working".

Oh...and google "who started the internet"...Al Gore had nothing to do with it.

The first time I read the Al Gore and the internet post I took it as sarcasm. Upon rereading I think that they are actually serious. If this is the case - the ignorance in this country astonishes me. I understand that no one knows everything, but something that has been widely known and joked about for years should no longer be accepted as fact by anyone.

What is the law on posting potilical signs? Don't they need to be posted in the district that the person is elected from? There are signs for the town election posted down Toto Road in front of homes where Starke County Cizitens can not vote for a person running in the May primary election. Wasn't there a county law about how long the signs can be up?

election is about 3 weeks away, political signs can be anywhere with ground owners ok. and since in the knox mayors race votes come from all over nothern indiana, i think signs in the non city area is reaching out for those out of town voters. only in knox, or maybe chicago.
vote early and vote often.

On March 31, the newspaper headline was Stark County has 4,760 people on disability. We only have 4300 people that live in Knox and all we're worried about is how many handicapped parking spaces we have! I think we would have to make the entire 5 star parking lot handicapped! Don't you think those are extremly high numbers? I know I can tell you at least 15 people that get disability and work for cash or are more than capable of working.
There are many people that need this money and I don't intead to offend them. I think the ones working the system are the one offending them. It seems the way to go if you want to sit home, get drunk and not have to pay for it. Then one week later we find out we are the second worse unhealthy county in Indiana. Well isn't that a surprise. Maybe we need to have an investigation as to why so many disabled. Is this the same Dr alot of the time? It just seems like something more is going on

I think that politicians should use the money spent on signs for something useful like newspaper space that tells us WHY we should vote for them or to hold a rally and meet them and hear what they have to say. I am not going to vote for someone just because you have polluted the landscape with more signs than your opponent. Oh, and don't leave cards and fliers on my front door. That's great, now everyone has a sign on their door for a part time girl. Some can get away with that but others are told they can't post a sign on their door. Just where did the money come from for the full time person, where was it before? Commissioners any comment on this. Taxpayers want to know.

The Starke County Baseball/Softball has decided that an 11 y/o girl won't play softball this year.

The girl has been playing softball with Knox, until it was absorbed by the Starke County Baseball/Softball Club, since she was five y/o.

An otherwise great organization has sure blown this one. After saying she could play for one team, the President changed his mind and unilaterally decided she couldn't. Even though she has five classmates on the team and has played with seven of the other girls for several years.

The President apparently said he would take the matter up with the Board, but no one on the board knows about it. The President is solely responsible for this decision.

To the person that wrote the letter about the Baseball / Softball on April 13, 2011 @ 6:58 AM. If you have this knowledge because you are involved with this league shame on you for airing the leagues dirty laundry at someone else’s expense. Maybe you should get off the pedestal you have placed yourself on and help to make things better instead of trying to tear the league apart. If you are not involved maybe you should quit bashing others and get involved.

Anonymous said...

How can part of Toto Road be in city jurisdiction???

Anonymous by necessity said...

To the critic from April 13, 2011 11:42 AM

First, I am not on a pedestal. I have no relationship with the girl. That you would shoot the messenger is typical of those who don't care.

Second, So what is it is "dirty laundry". Did you write anything criticizing the Bass Lake Fire Department critic? I didn't think so. Therefore, it must be dirty laundry because you have an interest.

Third, Why do you think I am trying to tear the league apart? Shall I explain what I know or do you just want to throw out ad hominems?

The fact remain; through the arrogance of the President, an 11 y/o girl is denied the chance to play softball this year. And because that troubles me it is I who is to blame.

Fifth, by the sounds of your embarrassed approach, you must have personal knowledge of this. If my facts are incomplete or incorrect why don't you add something. Nope. All you did was try to belittle me and the message I wrote. Very immature.

Six, if this "tears the league apart" then don't you think the Starke County Baseball/Softball Club has some responsibility here? I'm sure people can openly discus this at any of their public meetings. Oopps, there hasn't been a public meeting since 2006. How can someone be part of the solution when the problem hides behind their unavailability?

Anonymous said...

I am in no way affiliated with the sb/bb league, just a person reading this discussion...it sounds like the girl CAN play, just not on the team she wants. If that is the case, then that is the way it is. My kids have had to play for different coaches and on different teams many times.

Anonymous said...

I have absolutely no interested parties involved in the baseball/softball league, but from reading the two posts. I have to agree with the person who wrote the rebuttal. You are apposed to "dirty laundry" (your words)being "aired" yet you didn't seem interested in the fire depts negitive post. Which leads me to believe you are in some way involved in the situation. If that being the case, I would be more interested in finding out WHY the little girl isn't allowed to play. And not so interested in the whole community knowing about it. Just my observation. Please explain yourself.

Baseball / Softball April 13, 2011 10:34pm Critic:
I think the person that commented on your attack against the president of the baseball / softball league hit the nail on the head. If you are truly standing up for someone that has been wronged than you have placed yourself on a “pedestal” as an advocate of that person. By the letter you wrote I just do not believe you have this person’s best interest at heart other than using this person to commit slander against the president of this league.

Anonymous said...

Apparently the mother was told the girl could not play. From what I understand the girl has played with most of the team she wants and requested to play with those girls. Other girls on the team also requested to play with her. She is a classmate of several girls on the team. The team she is assigned to is coached by the President who has said "if she can't play for him, she plays for no one".

Starke County Softball / Baseball, aka KVA, is an amazing association with amazing people/parents volunteering their time, money and efforts to continue to build this program into the great organizaiton it is today. I believe the board and the board's president go out of their way to make sure EVERY child is granted the opportunity to play. I believe it is not the President's fault that this child is not playing this year. While they try their hardest to meet every parents and/or child's request sometimes it just can't be done. Keep on keeping on Mr. President. You're doing a fantastic job! Just saying.

Anonymous said...

Regarding the post from 4/14 @ 4:39 am....obviously you are involved somehow because no where in the original post did it say that the girl can play, just not on the team that she wants. Perhaps it's because the President wanted her on his team instead of the team that she had been playing with.

Im not sure how they came up with the number of people on disability living in knox. I can speak for at least my family and i know at least 25 not on disability so i think maybe a recount should be done.

April 14 7:39, your wrong, I don't have anything to do with the league and my kids don't play on it. The original post said, "She could play with one team and the coach unilaterally changed his mind. Even though she has five teamates on the team..." It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. I don't believe this or any other league has a right just to not let a kid play at all for no reason.
I guess your whinning and ranting didn't get the response you wanted...and now your mad? Deal with it.

Anonymous said...

About the KVA issue...is the girl there to play softball or socialize? Yes sports are supposed to be fun & not all about winning but this isn't the MLB where you can choose who has the best deal teamwise. At the HS/college level you play with ANYONE who makes the team & believe me, not everyone is your friend. The president of the KVA is a VOLUNTEER & sacrifices personal time & family time to keep that league running, as do the coaches & all the people behind the scenes that help keep it running. Maybe instead of bashing the league you should be thankful we have it at all because before KVA the girls had to share the limelight with the boys in Little League. Now they get their own chances to shine! And by the way...my kids are not in the KVA so I'm not biased.

The girl had transportation issues where they could not always be there to pick the her up. Other parents on that team are known and trusted by the girl's parents and would watch her and provide transportation as needed.

Does that count as a social issue?

Anonymous said...

About the KVA issue ...

The KVA said there was no problem with the girl playing for the team she requested. (and the KVA is a solid league) It was the Starke County President that unilaterally decided she had to play on his team or not at all.

She can't. Her transportation is spotty. When her parents were unavailable, friends on the team stepped up. The same team mates she has been playing with for several years in several sports. The girl's mother tried to explain this but the President didn't believe it as he had seen the girl's older brother once drive her. The President also told her in front of other people that this would be discussed at the Board's meeting. It wasn't.

Yet I notice how the Starke County Board is coming out to pillory the child as the author of her own misfortune. Yes, very commendable. And none of them are involved with the child but seem to know all about her situation.

we need to form a protest and picket somewhere so if someone would let me know where they play, i will be late but i might show up.

Anonymous said...

Ok, I have been reading about the issues about the Kva Leg. So, at first nothing is mentioned about travel issues, just she can't play. Then it is she can play but, not on the team she wants, right?
I also have a girl on the teams, she was moved off of her team that she played with for 2 years. She also has 4 other classmates on this team.
She was moved because one set of parents didn't like the coach of the other team their daughter was going to be on. Am I mad? Yes Is she playing, yes. You know why? Because LIFE IS NOT FAIR!! Suck it up Mom and Dad, put your big kid panties on, teach your child to accept what she can't control and enjoy what she has.
Stop airing your problems in public, and trying to get your own way!
If it is a problem with travel, maybe ask the coach to help instead of making a big deal out of nothing!! GROW UP!!!!

In today's world if someone doesn't get their own way someone else is always to blame. We need to teach our children that you aren't always going to be able to choose who you have to deal with, this is such a huge problem today. If transportation was the issue then why say it was because she had several classmates on her team. Did anyone note on the forms for the KVA that transportation may be a problem or talk to the people when the forms and money were turned in. After reading the original posts it is clear that the person posting has a personal issue with the president of the board. Shame on you for using a little girl to further your issues. They say they have no contact with the league but they know that no one else besides the president made the decision unilaterally? Doesn't seem right to me, seems as though they heard bits and pieces and decided to use it to try to slander the president. If you can do a better job, next election for the KVA board/president you run. If you are not going to put your money where your mouth is be quiet.

Knox council passed an rule that yard sale signs must be purchased from the city and be a certain size and only up so long. They are so small, it is hard to read them. So if it is good enough for a person trying to earn a little money recycling their possessions, why can't they pass a rule about how many, where, when and how long a political sign can remain up? It would actually generate cash to charge per sign, if a person can afford the advertising signs--they should be dedicated enough to put donation to the city to pay for some the expense of running an election each year. Just an idea that might promote good will....there seems to be very little good will among our citizens! Happy Easter to all of you regardless of your beliefs!

Have you heard that soon the gas stations that aren't making anything selling gas==have been given permission to sell liquor so they can compete with all of the other places. Soon you will be able to drink and drive right away from the gas pump, let's pray for the passerby who ventures out with their family! Drug stores sell medicine to help stop people drinking liquor and medicine to make sure they need it, what a WIN=WIN situation! Oh, it is every American's right to drink whatever and whenever and wherever regardless of whom it hurts. A Wal-Mark clerk says people will come in with a lot of food stamp money through their card and then pull out $200 cash for beer? Once in a store I made a key for a man who came back and said it did not work, I went out with him and it worked--he smelled of liquor and could not use the key right plus he had his children in the back seat right there on Main Street, I truly hope they all made it home safely! It also cost money to take the drunks off the road, and money to care for their children.

Small wonder we citizens of Starke County do not get along, if this place allows all of us to complain and complain and critize every part of our county including each other, it does not explain why there are so many out of state and county cars traveling our county roads. Yet the biggest bad events like murder or crime or poverty makes headlines on the radio, television and newspapers--isn't there anything good to say about the local citizens. There are lots of good, law abiding citizens who contribute in unsung ways to help their neighbors through personal problems from illnesses or death or storms. There are benefits almost every week for somebody, and lots of us have contributed in some way to help other--either with our time, abilities or money. Yet there are those with no compassion for their fellow human beings. Remember the saying, "But for the grace of God, there goes us." How can we complain about the cold rain when several states had storms so bad that people died in them. The next one could stop and visit us, then we would appreciate a kind word, a hug and others acts of compassion. Use this space to make a difference, advertise those things that we got going for us. This rain is bringing beautiful spring flowers, and the trees will soon bloom again to welcome in warm weather. Take a walk, borrow a book free from the library, take nap or call a friend who needs to know that survivers count, we can not help those who have left us but we can love the lonely person who has lost a loved one. Count your blessings if you have had a good life with good health and a great job, because we all age and face tomorrow, make today a Better Place Today. Love feels so much better that hate!

The problem with the use of the word "creedy" is that the author could have corrected it in 2 seconds by proofreading the post before publishing. You see the blue rectangle labelled "PREVIEW"? That's all you've got to do. Other authors who also don't like to proofread write and type articles for the Leader and the Newshawk. Sometimes, the errors on the front page are so glaring that a sixth grader could easily spot them. I think that if you don't care enough about your work to proofread it, then you shouldn't be writing articles or blog posts anyway. You don't have to be a genius to check your work. I know that even if you proofread, mistakes can slip through. But some are so obvious that they would easily be seen. If adults can't take the time to proofread what they write, then why would we expect the next generation to do so? Before long, grammar will fall out of fashion, and written communication will suffer. Letters that people wrote over 200 years ago have better spelling and grammar. Now we have the convenience of computers and spellcheck. We have turned into an uneducated and lazy generation and it's just getting worse. U knowe wat eye meen Mr. Creedy?

I have to agree with the post about people not caring enough to proofread what they type. I don't even bother to read posts when I can't make out what the poster is trying to say. It only takes a second to make sure your point is expressed clearly. Good spelling and grammar sure help the reader to understand what you are trying to say. I wonder what their job applications and/or resumes look like when they are applying for a job. Is their physical appearance as sloppy? Maybe there is a reason so many are unemployed in our area.

If you have something worth saying, isn't it worth taking an extra minute or two to make sure what you have to say can be understood?

Of course, most of the posts on here are just griping about whose child got to play and whose didn't and what coach is a big, evil meany.

Why do the stoplights in Knox turn red when there are no cars approaching from the side streets? I've been in many cities where they must have sensors, because they stay green until a car approaches from a side street. At $4 a gallon, I would think that our government would figure that out. Imagine how much gas would be saved across the country if traffic kept moving instead of sitting still for no reason at all. I am voting for the first mayor candidate who will pledge to discuss this matter with state highway officials. We only have 3 lights, but it would make a big difference.

Why is it when I approach Hwy. 35 from a side street, that I have to wait for the light to turn green. Shouldn't the mayor know I go that way. Doesn't he know I'm in a hurry. He should think of all the gas we would save if I could just blow through that intersection.

Well, some of those who have run red lights probably have gotten tickets since they crashed into other cars. I saw it frequently when I hopped cars at the B&K. I guess I will start running them down and waving my gun at them from now on...oh, wait, that would mean I would have to run the red light to catch up to them...guess I won't do that. I'll just start dialing 911 and reporting them so the cops can go on a man hunt.

To the side street guy. You wouldn't have to wait on the red light if there was a four-way sensor and no traffic on #35. It would turn green for you and you would save gas. Maybe you'll see the wisdom in a $100 sensor when gas is $6 or more. Spend a little, save a lot. This is a no brainer

I believe someone walked off with our housedog. He is small with long white hair. We live behind Fletcher's Carpet store off Toto road. I someone sees a dog like that please leave a post. Thank You

The only light that does not have a sensor is the one by the schools. Even with a sensor the light does not just poof change the moment you arrive. You still must wait a few moments while the lights change.

Yes, it is part of the President's job to travel. But I think it should be on business, not all of the vacations the Obama's take!!!! I don't believe the past President's took as many as these people!!!!!

Anonymous said...

That's cause most people have short term memory. Reagan took vacations all the time. You should just come out and say you don't like Obama. By the way did you get those figures yet on how much we would save if he stayed home?

Anonymous said...

Really, a sensor cost 100 dollars. You have priced them? How much would the labor cost be to replace the ones already there? You also can predict the future? Gas is going to be 6 bucks a gallon. How much gas is really used sitting at an idle for 10-15 seconds?By the way sensors aren't fool proof, cause someone making a wide turn off of 35(while they are busy texting or whatever)can trip the side street sensor causing the light to change.

"These people" huh. Wow.So much can be said in such a few words. I'm not crazy about Obama as a president,or some of his policies, but I wouldn't go that far.You don't believe past presidents took as many vacations as "these people". So in other words you can't really remember for sure. Maybe your opinion is a little biased. If you don't like the guy, that's your choice, and that's fine. Just don't use some lame, halfbaked, halftruth argument.

Anonymous said...

when you have never worked you dont know what is too many vacations.

starke county voted for obama. why cant i find anyone now who will say they voted for him?

Anonymous said...

When you have no education you do not know what a coherent sentence is,either

Anonymous said...

It's easy to find people who voted for Obama. It will be the same people who vote to put him in for a second term.

Anonymous said...

First of all, I am the one who spoke of all of the Obama's vacations. I am NOT the same person talking of saving fuel!! And excuse me,for saying "those people". I was merely referring to the Obama family!!!! And perhaps past presidents took various vacations, but they must not have been advertised as much as the Obamas. And by the way, I did NOT vote for him, but that doesn't mean I don't like him!!!!!

Adults and Parents amaze me. I can not believe that they will lie to get their way when their kids are involved. IT IS SO SAD, but it happens more times than not. Are these same parents going to tell middle and high school coaches who will coach their child and where they will play them? The problem is not the kids it is the PARENTS... I dont like you, you upset me, your kid said something to mine, this coach this, this person that.... the parents are the reason so many people dont volunteer anymore. Very sad indeed.

I'm still waiting. How much gas will we save if Obama stays home?

My favorite line is "I know my kid,and they wouldn't do that." No you don't and yes they would. Stop lying to keep them out of trouble.

Easter Monday is the day after Easter Sunday and is celebrated as a holiday in some largely Christian cultures, especially Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox cultures. At first, the post-Easter festivities involved a week of secular celebration, but this was reduced to one day in the 19th century. Events include egg rolling competitions and, in predominantly Roman Catholic countries, dousing other people with water which traditionally had been blessed with holy water the day before at Easter Sunday Mass and carried home to bless the house and food. The day goes by different names in different countries - in the US, it is usually called Dyngus day.

Check this link to find the over 10 countries where it is a legal holiday. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Monday#Official_holiday

Most people in America can't be all that concerned about the price of gas, or they wouldn't waste it by driving like they are on their way to a house fire. Driving habits affect gas mileage more than anything else. This can't be new information. I get passed all the time when I am only doing the speed limit. Some people even get irritated at me for only driving the speed limit. They especially don't like me taking about a minute to get up to 55mph. As soon as they have a chance they floor it and almost blow me off the road. Some don't even wait. They pass me on double yellow lines or going up blind hills. I'll believe people are concerned about the rising gas prices when I see their driving habits change.

Anonymous said...

Ah, sad to say, the speed demons are not the ones complaining about gas prices! It is the rest of us who drive sensibly that suffer!!! I think if people are upset with gas prices, they should drive only when necessary. I know I do!!!!

Anonymous needs to know that US 35 is a STATE highway. The State controls those lights and the Mayor has nothing to do with them. You should call "my man Mitch!"

NJSP High School girls have another softball game scheduled today. I urge the administrators & AD to come out and watch a game. Nothing will change in this program without the support of them!
