People the stop signs in town are there for a reason. Please obey them.

Anonymous said...

anyone know when cinco de mayo is this year

Anonymous said...

are you kidding? hope so, cinco de mayo means May Fifth

Anonymous said...

Red means STOP...whether it is a sign or light, neither seem to mean much in Knox. I taught both of my kids to ALWAYS wait to make sure the other person stops when they are supposed to BEFORE pulling out into the intersection.

I still have to find out how to turn off that cloaking device in my Jimmy because I am sure there must be one there...everyone pulls out in front of me all the time like they can't see me RIGHT THERE almost hitting them! My husband never believed me when I complained about how often this happened until he rode with me to town a few times. Now he understands why I need frequent brake repairs!

Anonymous said...

About the stop signs I agree. However,I hate it when people beat you to a stop and then set there and motion you to go. What are they afraid of,getting pulled over or something. Have something to hide do we?

Anonymous said...

I speak English not Spanish.

Anonymous said...

try going by the schools of a morning parents j walking across main street with kids, when a kid gets hit by a car or a bus the school or city police will do something then.

Anonymous said...

OK, I'm a different person, but serioulsy not knowing Cinco de Mayo means May 5th is just ignorance. You want to celebrate the holiday, but not bother to even know what it means.

Anonymous said...

They just got Bin Laden. This just bought Obama a second term.

Anonymous said...

I don't speak spanish either, I just learned history and what the day celebrates!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, history buff while you were "learning" history did you learn it was mostly a Mexican holiday.

Anonymous said...

Obama did not get Osama Bin Laden so why would this guarantee him a second term? He isn't getting my vote!

I wave people on at the stop sign so that they don't decide to pull out at the same time I do and run into me. I'm not in that big of a hurry.

Anonymous said...

To the person saying that Cinco de Mayo is mainly a Mexican holiday - so. Most people I know do not acknowledge Saints but they sure do celebrate St. Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day. Most people around here aren't pagans either but Halloween sure is a big deal.

Anonymous said...

Give me a break May 2 at 6:55 AM. Cinco do Mayo celebrates a Mexcian victory in a battle with French forces. It is not comparable to St. Patricks Day, St. Valentines Day or Halloween. Cinco de Mayo is mainly a mexican holiday.

Anonymous said...

im not mexican but i do enjoy mexican food. I really do not like mexican people. may be a little different if i could understand what they were saying. Probably not. I do not celebrate valentines day honestly its a waste of money. You have a birthdays and anniversarys for the same reason. St patricks day i cook the corned beef and cabbage but thats all. For halloween we either pass out candy or take the kids around. And no im not pagan. Do u really know a pagan that passes out candy? I do not they have their own ritual for halloween.

Anonymous said...

hi, i posted the original "anyone know when cinco de mayo is this year" as a joke, didnt think it would start a war.

Anonymous said...

Original cinco de mayo poster. The problem is most people in this county don't have much. The only way to make themselves feel better about their life is to put someone else down. "Look that guy spelled something wrong"."You're ignorant you don't know what cinco de mayo means". It's sad when you think about it.

Anonymous said...

Geez, people. I am just curious as to why when a question is posted, the answer to the question always has to have some kind of nasty undertone.
A simple answer to the question would be better than offensive comments.
I do find it rather humerous that there is more talk on this board about the meaning of a mexican holiday than the fact that the man responsible for mass murder in America was finally killed.

Anonymous said...

I love Obama, and since he got rid of Bin Laden,I will vote for him in 2012.Starke County Rulz.

Anonymous said...

The nasty undertones are because this is an anonymous site. Face to face 95% of these people wouldn't talk like this to someone else.

Anonymous said...

What is da day of forth of July this yeer? Me want by sparklers.

Anonymous said...

I think it is convenient that Bin Laden gets killed when Obama's ratings are at an all time low!!! I am glad Bin Laden is gone, but I just think it is fishy!!!!

Anonymous said...

Bin Laden killed, gas goes up 5 cents. What your excuse now Republicans and your big oil buddies.

Anonymous said...

It's more than "fishy". They've known his location since last year. Funny how Obama claims "we got him under my watch", when the Pakistanis claim they got him. It's all Media Manipulation. Why no photos AT ALL? Why the speedy religeous Muslim funeral, seriously, killed & dumped at sea in less than 24 hrs, with confirmed DNA tests by the afternoon? To be honest, Americans have NOT been given the full facts on ANY war or crisis. Still not 100% convinced they commited 9/11, because I've seen video & witness testimony, & I'm certain it was NOT a plane that hit Pentagon, for the ONLY engine recovered is a Tomahawk cruise missile engine. Boys & girls...can we say...P R O P A G A N D A ?

Anonymous said...

I want to know when Osama Bin Laden donated a DNA sample that they could use for comparison????

Anonymous said...

day 2 osama still dead, i give him a week to run a tape

Anonymous said...

To "fishy" comment. I agree. For the president to know this all day sunday, but wait til 8:50 to cut in to Donald Trump's Apprentice show just before he fires someone is down right LOW!! And definately alot FISHY!!

Anonymous said...

Can anyone tell me why gas in Knox is at least 30 cents per gallon higher than the national average and almost always 10 cents higher than Plymouth?????

Anonymous said...

I agree, I had suspicion as well when I heard Osama was killed and then immediately washed at sea. However, I understand the logic in not "broadcasting" his dead body. I think there is already a great fear of retaliation in our near future. To showcase this victory and televise his body will only anger his followers even more. Just saying.. it's scary what is out there in the world and what some people are capable of doing in the name of their "leader"
President Obama I know isn't saying "he killed him".. that would be straight up stupid. Was he caught and killed during his term, sure obviously right? How many times did President Bush try and take ownership of capturing the man then come a video one week later? If I was President and during my term, the number one terrorist was killed- you bet your ass I'd say Goal Accomplished! He has something to be proud of there if you ask me.

I am interested in knowing about the sentancing of the third man in the burglaries at koontz lake. We heard all about the twins, but nothing about the third mans sentance. Why is that? We want to know what happen.

To the voters of Knox In . I followed and reseached the candiates for your May election. Again it goes with out saying the Knox continues to use the same principal to elect officians ( The good old boy system ) If they didn't get caught they must be smart. You had at least 2 canidates that are well educated well rstablished bussiness people who have proven they can make chnages for the better . Yet you decided to stay with what hasn't gotten you in troble because they haven't done anything that you know about . I hope Knox can keep its head above water because this captain and first mate can't even tread water .

Anonymous said...

So what you are saying is that they have done something that you know of. Being good at business doesn't always mean good at politics. You just sound like you're full of sour grapes. Get over the hate. Also I don't care about grammer, but yours is horrible.

Anonymous said...

Osama & Obama. I cant keep them straight. Next election Im voting for anybody named Bob.

Cinco de mayo should not even be mentioned in the United States, it makes no difference on true Americans. It is time to shut down the free social programs for the illegals, this way can get back to mamasita in time to celebrate cinco de mayo.

Any word on the new Athletic Director at North Judson?

Anonymous said...

With the election over, we have some major issues facing us. Has anyone given a thought to what is going on at our local hospital? Do you really think LaPorte/IU Health wants to build us a new one?
Here is what is known at this time:

1. Starke Hospital is being used as a "thread" to LaPorte Hospital. In other words, very few patients are kept at Starke. They are being seen by what is called "hospitalists", physicians who practice in hospitals only and see you, the patient, instead of your personal physician. The hospitalist will then tell you that you need to be transferred to LaPorte Hospital for "a higher level of care." Many times patients and families have no choice in the matter. The patient is transferred. Period. What happened to patient's rights???

2.) LaPorte Physician's Network/IU Health "laid off" over 100 employees last week. Some of them were physicians, including Dr. Damodaran who has been serving Starke County for more than 30 years. This action has left many patients without a physician. LaPorte's solution? The hospitalists will see patients in the hospital and there are other LaPorte physicians that will will provide medical care if needed. Is this a scam???

3. Finally, word has it that LaPorte Hospital is losing money on Starke Hospital and they plan to close down much of the facility. Their plans are to keep the out-patient areas (lab, x-ray, emergency room)open. What this means is that we will all be using more gas so we can travel to LaPorte and more hospital employees will lose their jobs.

What do you think all of this is going to do for the local economy? Are the so called "county commissioners" concerned at all? I believe at least two of them were involved in the hospital at one time. Are they going to sit back and allow this company to come into our town and leave us without health care? If you are concerned at all, please voice your concerns to the commissioners before we are left with nothing at all.

Anonymous said...

Does this mean that Dr.Damodaran will not practice here in Knox anymore?
That would be a terrible thing. He is one of the best and kindest Doctors.
Wherever he goes his patients go.

Anonymous said...

I don't know if anyone is heading towards Valparaiso, but gas is $3.87 at the pilot on 30. If you are heading that way it would be worth it to fill up since it is $0.38 a gallon cheaper than in Knox this morning.

Anonymous said...

Supposedly, LaPorte/IU Health will not allow Dr. Damodaran to practice medicine in this area until the contract runs out in October, 2011. I'm not sure how that can be legit if they broke the contract and not Dr. Damodaran. But, you are right...he is very kind and very knowledgable in his field. I'm concerned not just about me, as I am one of his patients, but others as well.

Anonymous said...

IU health will distroy laporte hospital which just a short time ago was one of the best around.

Anonymous said...

It is a true shame what LaPorte has done to what used to be SMH. I am ashamed and so upset over what has transpired there. LaPorte does not give a crap about this community or its workers at the hospital. Do you know that Starke counties unemployment rate has risen more than 3% since LaPorte took over SMH. They have fired or let go more than 39 employees in the short time they have been there. It is a hostile working environment and a shame.

Anonymous said...

so the hospital got rid of 39 employees that means the workforce is about 1300 in the whole county hum, close down the all of the goverment enities then the rate will 100% well maybe they are trying to run it like a for profit bussiness that might be a good thing.

I'm tired of these people talking on cell phones while driving. I think they should get pulled over just like drunk drivers,it does impair their driving just like a drunk driver.

MARCH 31, 2011 4:56 PM

To this person who left this. I tend to agree, but that means every police officer I see in Knox and North Judson, and this includes County Police also is always on the phone. How can they protect and serve when they are on the phone. I did not know the tax payers pay them just to hang out and be on the phone. We do not need people like this wasting tax money. I think these people need to be let go. People think they are on the phone for job duties then why do they have CB,s in the cars as well as computers. Bottom line get off the phone and do the job tax payers pay you to do.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone remember when La Porte Hospital took over Starke Memorial? The red ink was flowing down Culver Road to Roosevelt. The grim reaper was standing on the lawn. And there was a person standing with pad-locks by the doors.

I don't know about hiring and firing policies at the hospital, but what I do know is business practices 101 dictates that when your losing money you put a heavy bandage on the wound.
Maybe that means combining duties, employing new techniques, cutting un-necessary personnel,

Let's give the hospital a fair shot at turning things around, or we might see sheep grazing on the lawn, and a white elephant standing at Culver Road
and State Road 35.

Anonymous said...

In response to the police officers on their cell phones. The fact is that many police agencies use the cell phones to contact officers now. Police scanners are almost a thing of the past. Most "criminals" have many types of scanners and can keep track of police. By using the cell phones and mobile computers in squad cars now, police are able to make suprise "raids", follow offenders, or simply conduct day to day proceedures without the watchful ears of the wrong people.

We already have the white elephant, it is called a renovated school.
Renovated my a**, they built a whole new one minus one wall.

Anonymous said...

To the concerned citizen regarding the bridge on 35 just south of the Highway 30 ramp-

Check that job site trailer on the north side of it. I'm wondering if there is going to be work done on it. There should be a schedule for the work to be completed located on the outside of the trailer. Hopefully it'll be fixed but man there will be ANOTHER detour for 35 to get onto 30 again. Those county roads were TERRIBLE for my car for those few months.

It isn't the schools we should be griping about. We have had some really talented professionals come out of this school system!!! A lot of the blame lies with the parents and the way they want their little babies treated!!!! Let the school have control while the kids are under their supervision. I always had that attitude when my kids went to school. I figured the teacher was in control and would discipline them as I would at home. My kids turned out to be good responsible adults!!

Condolences go out to the family of Don Paul Sr. Most of you don't know but I would like to tell everyone of the good samaritans that stopped to assist Mr. Paul that day. Three people, two women and a man pulled up on the scene and after alerting 911 they attempted CPR, and put out the vehicle fire. Although their efforts were futile, I just wanted everyone to know that decent caring and helpful citizens are out there, willing to help. Starke County heros walk among us.

I just wanted to leave a warning on here to all parents. Apparently Sunday morning a man drove back by the sewer plant, parked his truck, got out with a loaded shot gun, set up a blind and some decoys, and started turkey hunting in the woods directly behind the walking path and tee-ball field. Some observant sewer plant and park employees witnessed this and notified the police. The city and county police showed up and asked the park employees what they should do about it and if we have an ordinance against shooting in the city limits. By this time the DNR showed up and all three officers walked back into the woods to talk with the man. The man falseley claimed to have had permission to hunt there and the officers let him leave without as much as a slap on the wrist. The general consensus was that he didn't fire the weapon so it is ok.

This along with other recent nonactions on the part of our law enforcement has left me disgusted with this city. Apparently we are content in this town to ignore issues until a kid playing tee-ball gets shot by a moron that wants to hunt turkey in a public park, a kid drowns because he fell off of the train bridge, or a person gets mauled by an agressive dog whose owner refuses to put him on a leash.

I do not pretend to know a solution to this problem; but I know something must be done. At the very least our police need to learn the city laws so they do not have to ask an ordinary citizen if something is illegal or not.

I'm soooo happy Mr. Miller got the position! It's nice to see someone who has been with the corporation for quite a few years step into a position like this. He will have a well rounded approach since he was the Assistant (aka Disciplinary sp?) for so many years and now gets to be the princiPAL. I was a student at Knox Middle School while he was the assistant there and thought he did a great job- so GOOD DECISION school board.

Question.... Why are we putting so much money into a "buisness" that brings in almost NO money to the community. I am talking about the so called Hoosier Valley Railroad Organization. Seems the town of North Judsom, as well as the state continually gives this "organization" funds. Funds that would be better served for actual community orginazations that HELP it's very residents. The "railroad" brings no money into the community, or at least it is never reported. Now with the recent accident I am sure they will be asking for or simply given the funds to fix something. Why are they not using the funds given them to better the conditions of the crossings that they actually use???? And before anyone tells me to attend a town/county meeting and bring the subject up... I HAVE. When the subject is put on the table, it is either looked over or the response is that railroad will, at some point, bring much needed revenue to the community..... it has been several years and hundrede of thousands dollars later and it is still doing nothing for the community. With so much unemployment, and so many people needing, NEEDING help from places such as the food pantry, how is ANYONE able to justify giving money to "organizations" that serve no public service and only lines their own pockets.

So what is really going on with the North Judson Police department??? Every time you see a squad car, it has a new officer in it. Or, a reserve officer that has NO police training other than a couple of weeks at a police department OUT of the county. THey recieve NO state training before they are wllowed to carry a badge and a gun and "patrol" our streets. And with the recent shooting involving one of these reserve officers you would think that they would push for the funds to send them down state to get the training REQUIRED to be a police officer. I remember when the reserve "officers" were only used for emergencies and special events. They did not carry guns or carry a badge. THey simply wore a T-shirt with POLICE on the front and/or back. Now, we are allowing them to patrol in vehicles, make arrest, be involved in shootings, and all the duties of a regular officer. All with NO offivial training. Who is responsible for these people to be trained and where does the money to pay them come from ?????

All the reserve police officers in Indiana are volunteer meaning they are NOT paid. The town (according to their minutes) are not paying for the training the officer is paying for all of their training.

Here is the the mandated training by the state http://www.nilea.com/pre-basicblue.cfm .

As you can tell they have full arrest powers set forth by the state as the same as full-time officers.
