Happy & healthy February to ALL! Yes, Ole'Man Winter has seemed to avoided us for the most part, & I hope we can all be grateful(sorry plow-men). Working outside has been pleasant, roads have been safer & it's definately helped the heating bills & road clean-up costs .So, though very enjoyable, we pray that it is "harsh" enough to kill off the bacteria/viruses & mosquitoes. Why can Pulaski county have current police reports but starke county and Knox city are usually weeks behind?
The GOP propaganda machine needs re-oiled every month. to much grit in the spue----
So now the RTW bill is law. How nice.... Just anathor shining example of our ELECTED politicians not tending to the needs and/or desire of the very people that put them in office. They TRY to say that this law will bring in many new jobs to Indiana. Although this MAY be true, the facts of these new positions are blanketed in lies and half truths. The plain and simple fact is that this law will ONLY bring in small to mid sized companies at best. And these "employers" will ONLY come to Indiana to take advantage of Hoosiers by paining them much less, in some cases half, the pay of union workers.
The ONLY benefit will be to the companies and to the state. The state will collect much more in tax dollars, but at the cost of employee's low pay. And if you think that these payroll savings will be reflected in the cost of their respective products.....well you are in for a huge suprise. The ONLY hope now is that the next gov. repeals this law.
In reguards to the RTW LAW....
A few years back, I worked for a company in Michigan City that opperated with no union. Instead, this company and it's employees formed a :Workers and Employer contract. This contract which was legally binding, just as much as ANY union contract, offered fair wagees as well as provisions of employment that mandated the treatment of employees as well as a progressive disipline system.
My point is simply this... there is no need for a union if the companies will allow this type of contract. Myself, I liked the fact that people several states away could not dictate how I should be treated, or my salary, as well as when and/or if I had to strike. I was well informed and more importantly, INCLUDED in the forming of and regulation of the policies and proceedures of my employer. Some one several states away that had no clue of what was really in issue could tell us what to do !
First thigs First. As far the O-D tax Levy Question if I need more money for something then they need to cut just like everyone else dont play on peoples emotion by using the word DRASTIC unless it is going to be DRASTIC CUTS.. I do have an interset in this as a taxpayer and former student along with my childeren. Lets face it that school never should have been we can not afford it nor should we stand for more taxes live within your means or close it down. So what I am saying is I will be voting against it along with all of my family and freinds that feel the same wat about reality as I do !!
Congratulations to the State of Indiana for becoming the 23rd Right to Work State! And it was accomplished with the union disruption of daily business and the usual spin created to confuse the issue and hide the truth. And now that it is a reality, we will see why 22 other states enjoy a better than average standard of living, and have not returned to a closed shop order of business. As for the loss of union dues payed funds to certain politicians, your supporters will dig deeper into their pockets to support you won't they? Of course they will, and everything will be gum drops and rainbows in happy valley!
Plain & simple on O-D tax increase. For every $1,000, you'll "donate" $1.90. For every $10,000 it'll be $11.90, and for a $100,000 it'll be $119.00. On average, that's 10 bucks a month.... .33 cents a day to keep Oregon-Davis School open, which is a fine school system.
Pertaining to possible cuts, people need to attend meetings, see how hard people are working to crunch numbers, & make give input as well. But...I question if a breakfast program is necessary, as I feed my kids breakfast daily. Give kids a breakfast bar & fruit in their 1st class & get started. The computers were to cut book costs..& move the kids forward, which is great. But I'm certain of this, no school Superintendent should be making 6 figures. As with everything in our country, cuts need to be made from THE TOP DOWN.
So..ASK YOURSELVES THIS....would the Superintendent, the staff(principals, teachers, custodians, etc.), be willing to take a .19% pay cut for the year??? That WOULD help cover some of the discrepencies. Practice what you preach.

od tax person, your math is off some, close but off, not complaining or being rude, i am part rainman so i had to say something, 19 cents per 100 is $190 per 100,000, not $119, but thats the math we were taught in knox.
I am sure the employees they want an 1.9% raise ( not any cuts)it should be ran like a bussiness you have a limited audience that you can sell to anyone that uses your product I am glad that other people are interstered in this doesnt matter how much the EXTRA TAX I SAY NO!!!!!!!

First RTW, now "Creation Science" will be taught in schools. When did Indidana become the new backwater state? Next thing you know, in order to make up for the "brain drain" because all the smart ones will be leaving this stae shortly, Mitch will sign an excutive order mandating people to breed with their sisters, brothers and first cousins.
I have lived in this state all my life and in order for my son to have a beter chance at a high quality education and equal quality of life, I am starting to consider leaving here. And I am not the only one to express this. My roots will always be here, but at this point, I am considering leaving to a much better area of the country. Like Mississippi, or Louisiana.
Here is a good question to ask about the OD school issue-
Wouldnt it be more beneficial to create one school district and absorb all the schools and become one big corporation? You would not have to have multiple school boards, superintendents? The larger of which could benefit with a consistent pay scale, as well as costs for benefits like health and retirement?
They would be able to share more resources from within than do without.
Meaning, that purchases can be pooled together, for a greater savings-
programs for at risk students can be centralized and even specialized for those that are brighter.
The brutal truth is that no one wants to consider the kingdoms each school board and administration creates and lives in. The absolute benefit should lie with the students and this entire community.
LOOK OUTSIDE THE BOX, IF BUDGET IS AN ISSUE THEN TEACH AS IN COLLEGE. 50 OR MORE KIDS PER CLASS (AUDITORIUM STYLE) AND ONE TEACHER THEN HAVE A BUNCH OF LOW PAID TEACHER AIDS TO DO ALL THE GRUNT WORK. THATS HOW MOST ALL BUSINESS DO IT TODAY INCLUDING HEALTH CARE.

The closing time to register as a candidate in the primary election is at noon on Friday, February 10th in the Starke County Clerks office. This is a correction of my earlier message.
In regards to the OD tax situation. I have heard the proposed tax cuts. They are very significant and would likely result in the school closing in the next couple years. If we are worried about our taxes going up now to save our school, then we should be terrified about paying the same property taxes that we will have to pay when we become part of the Knox and the John Glenn school districts. We will be forced to pay higher taxes, but be without as much control that goes on with our children’s education. OD schools are not perfect but it is improving each year. It has the best graduation rate around. Last year OD had the largest increase in scores on the state standardized testing in the whole state of Indiana. We need to fight to keep our traditions and our children’s future. The grass is not always greener on the other side. We can do what’s right for our future or we can pay for someone else’s future later. The state cut them short, so let’s pick them up and show our appreciation for what they truly mean to the future of this community.
The OD school tax concerns. The problem is not with the OD school, the problem id Gov Daniel 1001 bill. It that bill it states that there should be no public funded school with less the 2000 students per county. That did not pass so his next best thing to do was take away the funding. This same concern is in North Judson . All small schools in the state are in the same basket. In the Gov Daniel eyes bigger is better reguardless of the cost to local people.
Look at the small school in Monteray closed. That just the begining. Your fight is at Indianoplis not here a home.
I just wanted to say I took my kids to Knox Elemn. carnival night hats off to them what a great fun night for my 2 kids. At only $10.00 what a cheap night of fun and the prizes were amazeing. This is my 2nd year going wow has it grown so much. Glenn Barnes you have a done great job organizing this. You hear of posts about negative things this is a huge positive and a great thing for the community. They need to think about doing one in the fall and one in the spring as fun as these are one a year is not enough. My son has talked about the whole weak keading up to it. Why dont WKVI not cover a huge event like this and great for the community the radio station could report on the good news to in our community. I just cant believe how many people were there what a atmosphere, makes me proud to have my kids apart of this school system.

There are 72 DHS-recognized fusion centers operating in this country today, one is in Indianapolis. You likely would ask “what are fusion centers?” Answer: government funded facilities that monitor all cell phone, land line and internet communications without your knowledge.
This came about after 9-11 under the guise of homeland security and was supposed to monitor terrorists, but big brother is using it to watch us, we the people and if we have opinions opposing the current socialist agenda we are identified as a threat to homeland security.
The Fourth Amendment states, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
This is just one example of how our constitutional rights are being annulled.
People need to really research what rtw is designed to do. The repubs want us to break eachother down till we all settle for 10 dollar an hour jobs. If your in a union pay your dues. When you dont your coworker has to cover your cost. Your union protects your wage and benifits. If union wages go down so will the non union till both are competing for the lowest possible wage we are willing to work for. The average union wage in Georgia is 22 bucks an hour. Ours is 30. Yet many things in the south are more expensive. I dont want to live in the Mississippi of the Midwest. 2000 union chrysler jobs just went to Illinois. 2 days after we became rtw. Dont buy the hype. I work in the Northwest region of Indiana everyday. I am union. People ask where I am from and i get the " o youre a south of the river boy" your suppost to be non union down there. Educate yourself, read what is written on rtw talk to union and non union people. You decide what is right for you. Union or not support the working man. The middle class is a union of working people. Vote for your paycheck not against your neighbor. Only you know what you can live on. Vote vote vote for the working class.
I'm sure the carnival night was great. Glen and his teachers might do a great job at planning events, but they do a terrible job at communicating about them. If you goto the KCES website the calendar is blank and the announcements are from last semester. Also, what people need to realize about those events are is that is how Glen Barnes meets the federal mandates for parental school participation. A fun night instead of actually having the parents participate in the school as classroom helpers, library aides, lunchroom helpers , etc. It works on paper but it does not make KCES a family friendly place nor does it invite communication.

The bottom line is that you can NOT have jobs, if no employer is willing to locate in your state due to excessive union intervention in their business. The unions have NO rights to interfere with the day to day operation of a company, but bully their way into that position. If I am an employer, I want to locate in RTW states, period. Any wage is better than no wage, and slave wages are against the law!! So collect unemployment like your democrat masters in the union want you to do, sell your self respect to your steward, and join the crowds of hooligans attacking the state houses. Or go to work and enjoy a productive self respectful life!

I do find socialism unacceptable. Those the government supports embrace it.
My grandson in first grade attended the fun night and his mom said he had such a terrific time and she enjoyed seeing him happy. Why not be happy the children are having fun. There is so much negative in the world. Remember when you were a child would you have loved a fun night at school. Back in the 50's we saw show's put on in the high school and the elementary would pair up with another student to pay the price and attend it. Oh for the good old days. So let our children of today have fond thoughts of their school. Knox keep up the good work on fun night.
The Plymouth Pilot ran a story this weekend about how the mayor was going to crack down on eyesores in the town, business and private homes.
How nice to read that. He even ran pictures of the places he plans on doing something about.
No one had to call him, he just saw all this and decided to work on it.
Why can't our Code Enforcer get out and do the same. Shocking to drive down the street and see what is acceptable here.
Last week I passed the worst house in Knox, trash every where and they were installing a dish for cable, and they were having a hard time trying to find a place to put the small dish.
I hope Knox will get on this.
Funny how The day after RTW was signed by Mitch, Chrysler moved 2,000 jobs out of Indiana to Illinois. I though it was going to bring jobs here. Ohh that's right minimum wage jobs are the jobs RTW brings.
First off Carnival Night is a Student Council Fund Raiser.Notes were sent to the parents several weeks ago. I don't know about the web site or who is in charge of updating it. If you want to participate in something at the schools or be involved, you have to make the effort. Believe it or not some parents don't care and expect the schools to raise their kids,some have to work odd hours and can't.If you really want to get involved I'm sure they would welcome it. If you just want to sit back and be a negative critic,I guess you can do that too.
I don't know Rod,but in reading his post I can't find anything to suggest that he hates America and wants to leave. I don't know if I agree with everything he post,but I agree with his freedom of speech.See the thing about free speech is that people can say things you don't agree with and sometimes things you hate. does anyone know who it was that was stealing small dogs a few months back it was happening south of knox by bass lake then and it seems like it is again there r several posters up about missing dogs and my mothers dogs were just taken out of her fenced in yard idk if its the same person doing it again or if its a coincedence or not but knowing who was doing it would atleast give me a place to start looking for them thankyou for any info anyone can provide

as of 2010 j.g tax rate was .9098
knox was 1.156 and o-d was .9939 now figure the .19 increase which puts o-d at 1.1839 now take the added enrolment to those 2 school and the rate should drop more. this is from the STATE of Indiana web site

You can sure tell it is election time. People holding offices are actually doing something usefull for the community. It would be great if these people began to do something constructive in the first few months of being elected instead in the final few months. Example.... doing something about the "run-down" buildings, both homes and buisness, in the area.
I believe that same statement was made as a election promise quite some time ago. So why wait till now to "SAY" something is going to be done ?? And is that the real issue to begin with? Could it be that homes are looking poorly because the people living there are out of work? Or that the landlords simply are letting them fall to disrepair to save a dollar or two to put in their pockets. The same could be said of a few of the buisnesses in the area. THey always seem to have customers and making money, but never see any improvements to the buildings they are in. The term "slumlord" comes to mind in both cases. And in a more general community issue.... whatg are we doing about all the trash that is along our streets? I have seen people throw trash out of their car windows on many occasions. Believe it or not, many times when they are just a few blocks from their homes. TRUE STORY : I was traveling north on 39 going into Knox, three cars ahead they opened their passenger window and tossed out a MC Donalds bag full of trash. The vehicle directly in front of he ran over the bag, causing the contents to fly out spreading it out on the roadway further. THis vehicle was a POLICE CAR. And nothing was done. NOTHING. The vehicle in violation eventually turned into the Taco Bell drive through.
My point of all this ??? If I really need to say it, I guess we have a greater problem than I thought.
Yes the post about not letting kids know about carnival night needs to get his facts straight. My daughter had on 2 different occasions papers sent home from school about carnival night what more do people want a personal phone call. Some people have nothing better to do than complain.Anonymous complainer I am sure if you went to school and asked to volunteer they would welcome it. How about instead of being part of the problem help become the solution. As we know no one is perfect and we all make mistakes unless you are so perfect maybe we should point out all the mistakes you made. Some say student council runs this. I heard they are doing these fund raisers for a sign, hats off instead of useing tax money raising the money instead outstanding job. I feel WKVI and our local papers should of covered this event, I was there and I bet there were it least 800 people there from the year before what a growth. I heard one of the workers say they are addeing more games next year since it has grown so much. Who was in charge of getting the prizes wow what nice things for the kids. These prizes are better than if you went to chuckie cheese. I am proud of our school I saw so many happy kids there with times being so tough to only charge $10.00 you cant beat it. The cotton candy lady was so funny, the games were just like carnival games some easy some hard good for all grade levels. The inflatables were really cool. I am just wondering who does all of this work for these kids, it had to take a lot of time and money whoever made these games and took a lot of time in them. I think WKVI should do some sort of story on this even though it is late. I get so tired of all the negative, nice to see teachers putting in extra time with these kids and they volunteer, they do not get paid for this. You would of thought though more of the administration would of showed support, saw no school board members present. But overall great time went by to fast. Glenn great job on organizing this, the kids absolutely loved it. Keep this tradition going on at this school.

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of food cards;no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans,blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal legations. Then, we'll test
recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks?
You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair.
Your home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good.."
Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at
least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.
Oh, and one last thing, while you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will
voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

Where's the local results for the Knox Redskins (& local teams) WRESTLING results?? I've seen very little, if any, publicity for our wrestlers, and that needs to change. We've already went from Sectionals to Regionals, & I see nothing yet. Come on mannnn! Does WKVI need a volunteer high school sports reporter, for I'd gladdly do it on a volunteer basis.

Quick history lesson,if you enjoy overtime time pay,health benefits,a safe work envioronment and not having to work 7 days a week or being robbed by your employer(company stores),thank the union. Before unions these things were luxuries workers didn't have.Go ahead and eat up all that propaganda though.The richest 1% of America won't give an inch and control the media so go ahead a believe all the spin you see on the news.

Ohh so in otherwords if you're poor and need Gov't assistance then you aren't protected by the constitution. How about a better screening process in order to recieve assistance. Taking away freedoms isn't the answer.

Yes notes about fun night did go home with the students. It was not however noted on the school calendar on the website. In fact NOTHING is noted on the school calendar on the website. This was my point. My point is also that the school counts attendance at such events as the mandated parent involvement as required by NCLB. My child attended fun night so I guess in that way I have volunteered at school, however my other offers to volunteer at school have been turned down because a) having parents in the classroom is a distraction to the kids and b) the school already meets all of it's needed hours. You would think that the school would want someone who is a licensed teacher with a Master's degree (who happens to currently be a SAHM) to be available to help in our classroom with their large child to teacher ratios.
At minimum it should not be too much to expect the school website to be kept up to date.
I heard the sports cast on Wkvi this morning and all the area school wrestling winners were reported on. Funny you did not hear that.

I don't get Gov't assistance.I work a full time job thank you very much.The problem I have with Creechs post(that he copied off the internet)is that it sounds alot like concentration camps"Gov't Jobs","Military barracks","Surgical procedures". I don't know if you know it or not but we have this silly little thing called the Constitution.Is the Welfare System flawed, yes.It does need overhauled and fixed,but throwing out the Constitution isn't the answer. Neither is copying cute little silly posts off the internet.

Oh, but I do "got it". Unions are history, memories of long ago fights and victories(now covered by law and regulation), old news, no more battles to be fought. Nothing to do now but beat the worker out of his dues for the support of unsavory politicians and more goons. If all an organization has is memories, and no goals, they're done! I have two kids in kces and I go in my sons classroom once a week to help out. I have went and read to Jim during library time and Mrs. Casey from the library has called me to read to other classes. If you really wanted to help they would allow you to volunteer!!! It's always easier to just complain than to do something about it!!!

U know today in this world unless u are a commy then no one would agree with u. I am employed but with the amt of money i spend to get back and forth, the money i pay for rent and water/trash, electric. If i did not recieve food stamps my kids would go hungry.I do not smoke or do drugs or constantly reproduce as for i only have 2 children. Maybe if things would give a little it would be different. More money per hour, gas cheaper then 3.60 a gallon. Cheaper food would be nice too. Even sav a lot is getting expensive. Anyone else agree?

Reform definitely needs done on Welfare assistance, especially when on Capital Hill they're trying to stop their use in Strip Clubs. What's wrong with drug testing recipients. But the major problem with Health Care is what the Malpractice Ins. costs & then the Dr. & Hospital Fees on top of that. Everybody wants to get rich quick. We even have local Dr.'s that LOVE Medicaid, which allows them to build mansions on hills. Then we have Non-Profits, with thousands of tax-payer $$$...DOING WHAT? The "1%" busting Unions w/ RTW, Unions fearing loss dues...the list is endless. IT'S CALLED....GREED! And it'll be our demise. How much further can it go...we'll just see how worse things will get. "Give unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's"....thank God my faith is in something other than our Gov't, which is what our country USED to stand on.
Tying, you set a good example and I am sure you know the folks I am writing about, they know who they are as well. The ones that hustle the system by collecting disability and food stamps then do masonry or roofing work on the side for cash or worse yet second or third generation on the public dole. Public assistance was not initially supposed to be a cradle to grave scheme but politicians figured out that it would garner them votes to make it so.
Union's Goals are to protect the workers.I don't work in a union shop. So every year around December we have an annual meeting where our employer tells us "Sorry no raises this Year"." Oh and by the way your out of pocket health insurance premiums will be going up this year,and your deductables too". "Don't worry though the company is doing fine".Unions don't always get you more but they can stop employers from taking things from you. I'd gladly give up a lousy 100 bucks a month in Union dues,cause my employer has taken alot more from me than that. Oh and before you chime in with "If you don't like it go work somewhere else", I let you know we've already heard that from our employer,and some who did speak up were "let go". So who's the real bully? Got that!

ROD, I asked my spouse about that place in Indy, and he/she said they are looking for words that would indicate terrorism. Then the calls, etc.., are used in court to convict. Any other criminal activity they hear is passed down to local law enforcement to start a FRESH investigation so that the calls, etc.. that they snooped on are not needed. I don't think they care about the regular personal stuff we all talk about. But I would bet that's how they got all those cocaine busts in LaPorte. You are correct in that the fusion center’s SAR technology is seeking key words or phrases, like bomb or place IED or your thought about cocaine, that might indicate possible terrorism or illegal activity thereby locking onto the source for further analysis. They can use that technology any way they want and there is very little oversight or accountability with respect to constitutional rights.
My point is if we have views opposing the current trend toward socialism and believe the constitution is the law of the land those in power trying to implement socialistic ideals could identify us as a homeland security threat. In that case the SAR technology would be searching for anti socialistic or pro constitution words or phrases.
The recently passed S1867 has even further weakened the Bill of Rights, most specifically the 4th Amendment, so if I am identified as a dissident I can be arrested and detained indefinitely as habeas corpus has been effectively suspended.
I wonder if the phones at the TOURISM office didnt work or someone didnt pay the bill ? As soon as this issue was brought to the board's attention there should have been action. I've never seen so many Jr.High kids dressed so nice, suit & tie, beautiful dresses w/ hair & nails done, with the kids acting so respectable. Kids enjoyed it immensely, as well as the parents getting the kids ready & taking pictures. Was so enjoyable & proud. And...Great Job Lady Redskins basketball team....& GOOD LUCK IN THE SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MON NIGHT @ KANKAKEE VALLEY. I just received a call from a man who identified himself as representing a State Police fund drive to help educate and fingerprint children. I happened to look at the caller ID and noticed the call originated in the 201 area code which I know is in New Jersey. When I asked him why he was calling Indiana from NJ he hung up.
Back in college(the early 90's), I worked for a telemarketer, that campaigned for a state-wide police Alliance, which said the $$$ was to fund summer childrens camps & such. It was located in a closed up strip mall, paper over the windows, with approx 20 people cold-calling people constantly, and bank-rolling the donations in. Sad thing, when I heard only 20% went to the kids, I quit immediately.
Surprisingly...the State of Indiana posted the "No Call List" number last week, which we called & posted our #, & since then have been getting calls every day.
Last evening as I was driving up Main Street, the thermometer in the car read 14 degrees. There were two teenagers standing on the corner wearing t-shirts as if it were summertime. If that display was not in your face stupid what would be? No worry, Starke County already has a reputation of stupidity and it seems to me this conduct underscores that image.

Those children in t-shirts are probably from broken homes and that is their way of trying to get attention or maybe their caretaker cannot afford to buy them a coat. The organizations that hold annual coat drives should appoint someone to drive around in a car with coats in the back seat and give those children coats when they see them.
At least their pants aren't hangin around their knees with their underwear hangin out, walkin the alleys, spray paintin gang signs or hurtin people. I recall bein a kid, & we dared each other to run around the house, in the snow barefoot, in a pair of shorts. We were such criminals.
I am so sick of driving around Knox seeing kids in T-shirts during the winter I can't hardly take it anymore! Why isn't the local police or Mayor doing something about it? The last statement of your post pretty much negates the rest of your posting. How do you compair the acts of children to the criminal acts of an adult ? For one thing, they are CHILDREN. That fact alone brings the point that they are still learning the ways of life and the rights and wrongs of the world. The ADULT you are speaking of is an ADMITTED criminal. She has admitted to taking the money and tries to justify it by saying she has paid most of it back. And make no mistake, her actions are, by description and legal statures, ARE CRIMINAL. Why she has not been arrested and/or charged with a crime is the question of the day. If an employee of any other buisness in this area would have done the same thing, they would already be in custody waiting for trial. So how can her actiona, and/or the actions of the boards in question really be justified simply by calling them "God's Children"?

Speaking of kids in t-shirts, at the Winamac/Rochester game a fan from Winamac came in had on tights and he proceeded to put a pair of white bvd's over the tights and paraded around in front of the crowd spanking his butt. We were offended by his actions, but the principal from North Judson and Winamac did nothing. Where has our pride gone. That student should have been taken out of the gym. The other kids were even taking pictures of this. The game the night before this same guy got a bunch of the kids to go over behind the North Newton bench and make comments to the players. The athelic director made them leave, then they went up in the upper bleachers and continue to jump up and down and holler louder. I think they should have been thrown out of the building completely. Please children have a little pride in yourself, this did nothing for pride. If you cat like this as chidlren what will you be like as an adult?

Sounds like someone has way too much time on their hands. Get a hobby or go to the library and find something to do besides watching everyone else. I am 70 and I remember the goofy things I wore when I was in HS. So let it go!
Hooded coats in the summer, t-shirts in the winter and wearing pajamas in public, certainly doesn’t speak well of their IQ. And I have to wonder do these children have parents? Any reasonable parent is supposed to care of their children, prevent them from harming themselves and teach them right from wrong.
You don’t need to worry about the t-shirt crowd. They will likely die off from pneumonia by spring. Mother Nature’s way of keeping the heard strong, survival of the fittest.

How effective are snow plows that drive down county roads at 40-50 miles per hour? Both on Saturday and again today, I've watched out my window on Range Road watching the plow driver go so fast that all the snow does is plume up and out and land back on the road. SLOW DOWN - your job is to make the roads safer, not be a hazard yourself.
Let me tell you is isn't just Range Road. Meet a plow on any county road and take your life in your hands. I guess he who can throw the biggest plume wins!

While sitting in a local, Knox, restuarant trying to enjoy an afternoon meal, I could not help but overhear a few of the conversations by people near me. The people talking varied in age from in their 20's to a few in their later years, am guessing 60's and 70's. The one thing that stood out about these conversations was that nothing positive about this community was being said. At times the focus shifted to the presidential election and who was running for office. But the majority of the topics were covering local politics and general county issues. Apparently I have been over looking many problems in this area. Or so it would seem. I was suprised to hear that this area was so corrupt and the officials in office were so neglectful in their duties. I was shocked to hear that the police departments were doing nothing to curb the drug problems and were simply driving around doing nothing to protect our area. I was suprised to hear that our schools were falling apart and the teachers were simply there to collect a paycheck and not teaching our children anything. I was suprised to learn the all the local buisnesses were overcharging so much that it was necessary to drive to other cities to do shopping.
It then occured to me that if I were a visitor to this area, possible thinking of moving her, or a buisness owner think of opening in the area, I would pay my check and leave as quickly as possible. I admitt that Knox, and Stark county as a whole has issues that need be addressed. However, it seems that the people, not all, but a great deal of them in the area think very little of our community. It seems that it is easier to sit in public places and degrade our community and advertise our issues in such a way it makes me wonder if it is so bad, and you are so unhappy here. Why stay. Maby, just maby, if we as a community would look for the good in our area, if we would sit and speak of the pleasant memories, if we would speak of the good in the people, our neighbors around us. If we would remember that our community has very little issues compaired to many others surrounding us.
I love this area, and the people that are in it. I cherrish every day I can walk outside and not hear sirens every five minutes. Or gunfire echoing through the streets. I love to see childresn walking to the park without worry of harm or endagerment. I love not seeing trash scattered along our streets and yards. I love goin gto the local buisnesses and being treated as a person, and hearing "Have a great day" and getting a smile from most I come in contact with. "Word of mouth" goes a long way in this area. But the words comming out of that same mouth can do so much damage in such a short time.
Be well my friends. Try not to dwell on the negative, or the positive will just pass you by.

Undocumented aliens and islamic terrorists pouring across our borders unabated! Hospitals going bankrupt trying to pay for the entitlement hordes sitting in the ERs with runny noses! Social Security in danger of disappearing! Not to even mention "housing", which is a proud result of democrats trying to satisfy jimmie carters housing grant program, in which several democrats made millions and donated untold monies to dodd, frank, and obama (in that order)! Oh yes, we are waiting impatiently for November to come so we can create a turnover alright. So we can rid this nation of the democrats that have nearly destroyed our Constitution and our Nation!!!

I have been thinking about the situation with the tourism board. Why hasn't an audit been done by an outside firm? Why hasn't the Commissioner requested an audit? Who signed the check? Usually there are 2 signatures required. If someone thought money was missing why didn't they contact someone immediately and get the ball rolling? Why was a time line required if they thought the money was missing? I would say either the treasurer or the people signing the checks didn't do their jobs. I hope the Commissioners take heed an get an audit done now.

THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL POST. Last weekend we hosted a wedding reception at the BLPOA Community Center. It is the old Bass Lake Fire Station on the south side of the lake. The Bass Lake Property Owners have remodelled the building and it now has two large banquet rooms for weddings, graduation parties, or meetings. There are kitchen facilities and newly remodeled restrooms. I want to let people know of this option for hosting a large event. It is very nice, the cost is right, and the people are great to work with!

I love Unions, as most of my family is, but the back door deal w/ Unions & Politicians HAVE TO STOP. Unions are FOR THE WORKERS. I certainly don't want a nation like Ill. It's good to have a balance of political parties, & yes, I feel both are corrupt & have gone to far left/right. But dreamweaver Obama is doing things no American wants for their children. He's laying the foundation for transition away from our Constitution, for how can we support a Pres. who's biggest contributor is not even an American(Soros), who owns & manipulates CNN. "OBAMACARE" as some like to call it is not in effect yet. It will require those uninsured to purchase healthcare insurance. This would decrease the amount of uninsured. The insurance companies and the tax payers have been paying for the uninsured for years.Many people are clamoring because the government will require them to purchase healthcare insurance. So you will either have only sick and older people purchasing insurance resulting in high cost for the insurance companies, or all young and old sharing in the cost. Pay when you are young and Benefit when you need it. It use to even out when all employees received healthcare insurance from their employers.
I haven't seen any posting referring to President Obama as perfect. I have read a lot of President bashing.
The post about Obamacare reminds me of one of the best bumper stickers I read years ago....."If you think health insurance is expensive now wait until it's free" How true is that!
What's really hard to understand is, why are we, the US, supporting the overthrow of these Middle Eastern Gov't's, when al queda is involved with the overthrow as well? I can’t speak for Creech and conspiracy theories but his posts seem to pass the litmus test of credibility. My last post was about fusion centers and they do exist, all 72 of them. For you non believers Google “fusion Centers” Wikipedia among others is a good reference site. As I have stated previously I view very little television and when I do it is typically Discovery, History or an outdoor channel.
One observation, seems to be quite a bit of reference to television programs as sources of information here especially in the rebuttals containing errors in spelling, punctuation and conjugation.
There are NO OTHER INSURANCE COMPANIES to buy from!!! The one your employer is with is the one you go through. The Republicans have offered a plan that would allow you to shop/purchase medical insurance across state lines, but GUESS WHO'S AGAINST THAT? Look at your medical papers when they ask which insurance you have, it's either MEDICADE OR ANTHEM!!!!!!!!!!! Let me tell you that 80 dollars a week then to 140 dollars a week IS NOT 9%!!!!!!!This increase was just last year!!!

Dont you think that we should have more pride in our city? Drive around Knox and some areas look like a war zone. Especially downtown where windows are boarded up for YEARS! Like right across from the Community Center and the Courhouse. I know that the Mayors of Valparaiso and Plymouth wouldn't tolerate that. Hey Mayor and Council, why don't you get off your duffs and start issuing fines to those building owners who refuse to take care of their property, like windows at least. To the person who thinks we should have pride in our community: Why is it that those of us who try are told we are being mean and nosy and many other things. Why is it that the county does not feel it should have to enforce codes and ordinances we paid them to develop and implement (taxpayer dollars pay for the time they spend doing these things)? Why is that they building inspector feels it is okay to allow illegal structures to be brought into our county and to allow people to live in them? Why should it cost taxpayers even more dollars to go to the BZA and appeal these decisions made by the building inspector? Why does the county Planning Commission (made up of elected and appointed members) back these decisions made by the building inspector when they are obviously wrong based on the codes and ordinances they have developed? Each BZA appeal costs $200 to file plus additional costs for legal notices to the paper and surrounding neighbors, as well as any legal fees incurred. We were told for months to go to the planning commission with our questions. When we went there, we were told they could not talk to us and that we had to file a second BZA appeal. It is an election year.

If your only reference sites include "googling" something or checking out Wikipedia, your information is no more valid than someone's TV show reference.
How many downtown buildings have been allowed to look delapidated? How many owners have the money to make them presentable but simply don't care? Why doesn't the city enforce the ordinances? The city has meetings about downtown development but refuses to require the downtown to be presentable. Why don't we just put up a sign at the city limits, "Slumloards welcome."
Why hasn't any statement been made by the county government regarding the ousted Treasurer.

I agree they have made a mistake. However, they do not seem to feel they have and they are continuing to support the mistake rather than correct it. My home is built to code. I never said I was perfect, but I also have not been entrusted with the duty that these board members have to make sure that structures in our county meet code and are safe. I don't believe there are any positions open on the planning commission based on my review of the list of members and when their terms are due to expire. If there were an opening, I do believe I would be open to serving on that board in order to improve the situation here in Starke County. I think it is long overdue for people here to start taking more pride in their community and getting more active in county government. I intend to start attending every meeting I can. The county commissioners have already become quite familiar with my face at their meetings, and I have learned a great deal about how our county works in the past few months. More people should attend these meetings rather than just sitting here complaining on blogs.
I did not realize Wheatfield was a city and I do return there frequently to visit my parents, but this is my home and there is no reason that I should leave.
Should we anticipate seeing you at some of these county meetings?
Yes, Rick S. is cute, he favors letting the parents completely control and pay for their children's education. Let's hope all parents can afford private schools, private tutors or home schooling, it will save lots of money and those children without an education can work in coal mines or sweep sidewalks and take the government dole. It would make lots of children happy not to have to climb into their expensive trucks and cars for a day in High School. Maybe he could teach the poorer children how to shoot guns so that the next war his party starts will have a young army all ready unless he can out source it using the poorest Chinese children.
Indiana's governor will soon be unemployed so maybe he can be the vice president, he can do for America just what he has done for Indiana!

Okay, maybe they shouldn't get high priced food, but if they run out of food stamps and they are out of food it's their fault. They should be smart and budget their food stamps. Should they be told when to eat, use the bathroom, drive, and sleep as well. Regulations need to be in place without going overboard.
