Ya'all just need Faith, read the news, put the pieces together, & make sure our hearts & souls in the right place. This is mostly "preaching to the choir" on here, so everyone do what you can at election time, communicate w/ your Rep.'s, & pray for your Gov't.

I was just reading some comments about Carnival Night! Congrats to KCES for putting on such a wonderful night! I was a volunteer that night and had a great time watching all the kids win those prizes. I also know that a lot of staff and KHS students donated extra time for the success of Carnival Night! The cotton candy ladies were very funny! Congratulations to Mrs. Arndt (the guidance counselor), Mr. Barnes, and Mrs. Tarnow for setting up such an affordable night of family fun! I hope to be able to volunteer next year!! M.R.

No, not confused w/USSR, simply pointing out one way to fix cradle to grave dependency on the government for everything mentality. That mentality buys in to keeping the left in power and promoting socialism.

Point is we will be just like the USSR under the current administrations socialistic plans. And yes, when that comes to fruition we all will be be told “when to eat, use the bathroom, drive, and sleep as well.”

What a lot of people forget is that many people need to swallow their pride when they get food stamps.Sure, there are some people who abuse the system. But what about the people who honestly need it? The government doesn't make it easy to get off them either. Many people want to be independent, but the system makes it very hard.I agree with drug testing, but telling people what they can eat is going too far. If they rely on food stamps they need to budget them, but of course people who abuse the system don't care.

One thing to remember is that people who recieve food stamp often have children. Don't punish those kids. Kids deserve to have a candy bar, snack cake, or other item ONCE IN A WHILe. I agree not everyday, but sometimes. They also deserve to have a variety of foods. What child deserves to grow up on rice, beans, and cheese with nothing else?

To those that say that people need to do more research before posting comments......

My research is done in every day living. Each time I fuel up a vehicle and pay more and more for gas. Each time I go to the grocery store and see prices going up for food and other day to day needs. Each time I drive down the streets and see more and more homes sitting vacant because they cannot be sold. Each time I see anathor family using food stamps or other forms of state/government assistance to survive. Each time I pay higher premiums for insurance/health care. Each time I see a buisness close it's doors because of the poor economy. Each time I read/hear about our military being killed.
I do not need to read polls, twisted facts, "expert" opinions, or hear speaches from anyone in the one percent that is funded by big companies or has stock in these companies.
All I, or anyone else, needs to do is PAY ATTENTION to every day life to see how the state/government programs, and the people running them, are really working.
To base your opinion on what either political party is "reporting" or claiming to be fact is rather short sighted. Just because you support one party or the other does not mean you cannot see the truth.
I do not support/vote simply because of one's political standing. I try to vote/ support those that have a proven history of their actions/claims. I try to support those that have a realistic outlook on the country and/or state needs and possible plans to improve the current standard of living.

Fellow Stark County residents, I would like to express my concern with "lawn ornaments". They cheapen any house they adorn. It seems the smaller the house the more abundant they appear. Take pride, clean up your yards. Even the modest of homes can look appealing with a clean yard. I have never seen an area so enamoured with the plastic deer. Remember less is more, or in this case, none is more.

How can people draw Unemployment Benefits for years like they are? I kno many that are drawing...for a very long time. It pays roughly $450 a week, so they're either sitting on their butt(many getting food stamps & anything else they can get), and most of them also have a cash job. With the Unemp.Ben, Cash jobs, & Welfare, they're making more than a well paying job. The system is flawed, for these people have no desire to go back to work, & MR."I want to please everybody" Obama keeps dishing it out while the country is in a whole 1/2 way to China.

Seems like a lot of things are not enforced here. The one person said about downtown properties with boards on the windows. Another talked about garbage on the lawns of homes in town. Close to where we live (in town) there's an abandoned home, and this summer, ALL summer the grass grew & remained about 4 foot tall. Guess what happened? Nothing. We don't believe in turning people in, but I'm suprised that no city official noticed it. The city could cut the grass & charge them hefty, making a profit for the city. The fines alone for letting properties go unkept could really generate some town funds for things like fireworks, and planters, etc.

What our country really needs to fix it is a return to the good old days of George W Bush. We really had it made. We only lost 2.6 million jobs in 2008. We were constantly reminded that the illegal immigrants are taking jobs Americans don't want. All this cheap labor really helped boost the middle class wage. The first year the Bush tax cut for the wealthy was implemented was the first year we no longer had a balanced budget.

So lets all blame President Obama for helping the unemployed and implementing Socialism. The GOP needs to dig a big pit and push all these people into it and bury them so they wont have to watch these terrible people and their children live on the street and starve to death while our economy recovers.

Anonomouth said...

The unemployment rate is likely more than double what the government is releasing to the media for publication. The widely reported U-3 unemployment metric, currently standing at 8.3 percent, is very aggressive in shaving off people who have not made recent efforts to find work. It is further distorted by massive “seasonal adjustments,” which made over a million people vanish into thin air last month. How long has it been since Bush left?

Anonymous said...

A better question is how long will it take to cleanup the mess George Bush created he tried to repair the economy his last four years and it didn't work did it. just got a whole lot worse.

NO MORE TAXES for O-D Schools their budget was cut by 400,000 but they need 150,000 to get thru the rest of the school year or 6 months as stated so that means that they only need 300,000 for 12 months but there will be no school for several months in the summer. I am sure that some of the reason there is a decrease in funding is due to the enrollment dropping, so I believe this a way for the State to control Local Taxes which is a great thing. As A TAXPAYER for over 30 years in this district I SAY NO TO MORE TAXES !! I have talked to alot of taxpayers in this district and I have yet to find one person that wants to pay more TAXES..

Just thought you might like to know that there is a daily newspaper that carries local obits, it is the South Bend Tribune, which is delivered daily.
Most papers charge for obits, so they will publish it as written, my cousin wrote her mother's obit for the local paper and conveniently forgot that both of her parent were divorced and had remarried, she made it look like when her father died her mother was the widow. Fortunately her father had died so many years ago that only close family would know, she got her $50 worth.

"IT'S GEORGE BUSH'S FAULT", the incesant warble of the North American red faced, forked tongue, buzzard-lib. An overabundant species of bird that thrives on nest robbing for subsistance, and blaming other species for it's failure to hide thier faults. This species is known for it's protection of non-native species who are used for support in the pecking order. Faced with a loss in the pecking order( or loss of substance support stolen from worker birds) causes the buzzard-lib to fly to neighboring states. In particular, Illinois, where the buzzard-lib find comfort from similar buzzard-libs. This species is not very shy, and can be found generally in your face on every topic shrieking it's distress call: We know best, we know best! Attempting to ignore this pest will result in your pocket picked and rising cost of living. Buzzard-libs are adept at forming alliances with jackels, hyenas, and other carrion eaters, and exist on thier favorite food called apathy. Voting in large turnouts generally controls the buzzard-lib, but a few always sneak through with the aid of this apathy food. More can be learned about this bird by visiting your local county sanctuary.

FEBRUARY 22, 2012 5:58 AM, Thank you for posting "IT'S GEORGE BUSH'S FAULT" because it is. He was president for eight years when all this turmoil started. Sure is hard for some to admit that.It is easy to blame those trying to fix it. Probably hurts some real bad to see the economy improving.

Anonymous said...

I agree about the OD tax deal I dont want to pay anymore but if some taxpayers due they have are free to donateat anytime!!

Bush made a mess during his 8 years. If obama gets another 4 years we’ll be living in a despotism

Anonymous said...

Wy is it everytime they want to increase the county taxes they say it is for education. What are they doing with the money & why are some school districts getting less money than others?

Anonymous said...

What is hard to admit is that during Bush's last 4 years he had to contend with a democratic congress that blocked everything he tried to do and let the banking industry run free causing the housing crises. In 2005, Bush called for congressional hearings to try and reign in Fannie and Freddie, which turned into a democratic love fest. Put the blame where it belongs, squarely on demorcrats in the congress, including a do nothing non voting senator from Illinois named obama!!

Anonymous said...

dont worry obama will be re-elected and in the extra 4 years he i will be able to do more damage than bush did in his 8. that should make everyone happy.

I am an independent voter and I agree there has been a huge attack on the middle class and wages. I keep hearing the CEO,s complaining about tax rates but what about their record profits that keep showing up. The working people have not had any record profits and no wage increases across the board but yet they continue to pay excessive prices for goods and the profits go to the rich to hoard.
I am with you, stand up Operators.
Ditch Mitch!

I am with Mitch but he should go one step further if you are on unemployment (laid off from a union job per say with all intentions to be rehired such as an operator with a construction company) then you spend the winter in fla. well if your income is over a set amount lets pick 40 k which is above the avg median wage, then NO UNEMPLOYMENT that would be fair.. And the right to work is just what it is not a right for a union to protect slugs !!

After glancing over the posts here there is no denying this is a Democratic hotbed and with that I get the feeling there are many who look to the government for everything. Liberal l v. conservative is actually a good v. evil struggle that has been ongoing since the garden.

Undeniably life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are being eroded by the very people that have been entrusted to insure those freedoms continue. There is no such thing as a free lunch, someone is paying for it and that someone is very close to going the way of the Dinosaur.

Liberal thought on redistribution of wealth and providing everything for everyone who is not a productive, contributing member of society is morally and ethically wrong, evil and insidious.

Liberals are mindless lemmings following Democratic charlatans who seek to enslave the American people's will for their own ideological and financial gain. This trend must not only be stopped but reversed.

I do not need or want a government telling me what to do, how to think or what to say or not say. Any free thinking person does not want to provide for others at the expense of him and his family but that is exactly what is on the drawing board of Obama, Reid, Pelosi and their minions. They do this for votes. They have betrayed America and her core values by not keeping their oaths of office and that is not only unacceptable but inexcusable.

Long Time Republican Voter said...

The GOP insists on less government but yet Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell proposes women be subject to a trans vaginal ultrasound that they may not want. Isn't this a form of government enforcing healthcare mandates upon the public the very thing President Obama is Criticized for. Look at less government imposed by Indiana's Republican Governor Mitch Daniels who has put more government into the workplace by supporting right to work and inserting government between Labor and business. Now the latest a no smoking bill for Indiana. Mitch less government is your party's platform, why don't you listen.

Anonymous said...

Mitch Daniels doesn't listen because theres not money in it .. Everyone needs to look at who his campane fund contribitors were . All big bussiness who will benifit greatly by the right to work law. Pay less wages less benifits less saftey for workers equal higher profits for his big bussiness. He has been very successful in making Indiana a small bussiness low paying state. Good job Republican Mitch

Anonymous said...

Union hacks would do well to learn to live with the right to work. After all, what is more closely following the precepts of our constitution than the right to work without being forced or coerced into paying tribute to an organization that uses that money for other than the worker's benefit! Also, there is nothing stopping workers from voluntarily giving thier money to a union if they wish, if that keeps up thier insurance and benefits. But I agree that my money should not be taken from me to support an ideology I do not agree with, nor politicians whose ideology I do not support!
I would also agree with Waleis with his assessment of our present situation. Being politically correct for the sake of being nicey nice while our country fails on all fronts is not what I consider appropriate action.

Hundreds of thousanda of dollars are spent on rehabilitation in Indianas prison system and time cuts given to inmates that go to the drug classes then they get out and go right back to using drugs and get arrested again and repeat. Point being these programs dont arent and havent worked yet our STUPID Government continues to throw good money after bad on this, if they stop wasting it on these undeserving people and spend it on our kids and EDUCATION! YOU TAX PAYERS have no idea just how much of your money is truly spent on inmates recreational items they have PLAY STATIONS and XBOXES CABLE TV, POOL TABLES and twice a month they even get to order fast food like DQ, or Pizza! Its less than what is given to your childrens schools. All of this is done under the guise of rehabilitation! People you should all be appaled by this and because so much money is dumped into this lost cause you are looking at paying higher taxes to help keep a local school open. STOP CODDLING INMATES AND USE THAT MONEY FOR OUR CHILDREN!

Anonymous said...

I to say NO to a tax increase for O-D schools. If O-Ds student body count is to low that it doesnt qualify for state money then it should NOT remain open. What hope is there that enrollment #s will go up in the coming years? How long do they think the tax payers of this county can afford to pay for this, as due to the high # of foreclosures there are fewer people actually paying property taxes, and not one word has been said about the schools Superintendant or any Administrators or even teachers taking a pay cut to help that school out if they arent willing to help themselves why should we?

Anonymous said...

I agree about O-D enough is enough did they really need the 9 million dollar expansion I think not I graduated from there over 30 years ago and my kids did a few years back guess what there was more students in my class. VOTE NO!!!!

First let me say that I appreciate WKVI allowing the people (me for example) to discuss, make comments, suggestions or in a lot of cases simply vent. However I do notice that if they (WKVI) don’t agree with something, that something doesn’t get posted & I understand that if I were the moderator of the blog I too might indulge in that practice. However I would like to comment on the rules as posted at the top of the blog page. “ALL POSTED COMMENTS ARE THE VIEWS OF THE PEOPLE POSTING AND WKVI PROVIDES THIS SITE AS A WAY FOR LISTENERS TO HAVE A FORUM TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS”. Great! I like this part & truly appreciate the opportunity to do so. Next “ WKVI DOES NOT EDIT THE POSTS FOR CONTENT NOR HAS ANY OPINION REGARDING THESE POSTS”. They do not that I know of or have ever heard of or even suspected of editing a post however I suspect they do have opinions just not expressed opinions & this I have no problem with which I am sure they really don’t care if I do or don’t. “LETTERS THAT ATTACK THE CHARACTER OR INTEGRITY OF AN INDIVIDUAL OR ORGANIZATION WILL NOT BE POSTED”. This is what I disagree with & why I disagree. For example: Obama & Bush & many other names. Both their names & characters & integrity attacked repeatedly. Both political figures & loaded with controversial issues of democratic & republican beliefs. Most everyone on the blog has attacked the integrity or character of one or the other of these two individuals or some other political person. Those comments are posted. Now try mentioning a local politicians name or just their political position & a negative comment or ask a question about why some local politician is not doing their job & that will not be posted. It is extremely difficult to express ones agreement or disagreement with someone or an organization without mentioning the name of the character, individual or organization with whom you are agreeing or disagreeing. Ask a question about why a certain politician isn’t inquiring into a particular situation & if you say their political office or position it doesn’t post. This is not attacking their character or their organization & one must assume it is the unexpressed opinion of the blog administer or WKVI that is preventing it from being posted. “LIKEWISE, WE DO NOT PUBLISH LETTERS CONCERNING COMPLAINTS ABOUT SERVICE AT AREA BUSINESSES”. Understandable. If this gets posted I thank you for letting me make comments, suggestions or in this case simply vent.

to "STOP CODDLING INMATES" I think you meant "its more than what is spent on our childrens education" and I would agree. What an absolute waste of our tax money. Hope the new Governor we get changes that.

A survey of students in higher education found that 90% of students have used Wikipedia to complete assignments. Although as in any research one must use many resources, i.e. multiple web sites, journals and topic specific publications, in order to formulate an objective conclusion.

My suggestion was “Google Wikipedia among others” I suggested Wikipedia because I know information there relative to fusion centers to be credible and it presents information as a synopsis as opposed to having to sift through volumes on other sites.

In my opinion Wikipedia is a good starting point for any research. You are correct in that anyone can write anything but with the amount of traffic there any incorrect information will soon be corrected by people who see the errors.

Further, there is factual information disseminated through TV but just as Wikipedia should not be a sole resource, the TV media is vastly more controlled than the internet.

Yes, the libs in a couple of states are practicing sour grapes and attempting to recall governors and RTW laws, but that's all that is, sour grapes. Union hacks and goons, and corrupt politicians(mostly democrats) that stand to lose dues money that supports them in a manner your not accustomed! As far as the toll road in Indiana is concerned, it was not a sale, it was a lease. And the monies from that lease have kept Indiana solvent and have returned funds to the counties. Here again, the democrats are unable to get thier greedy hands on the monies for thier private use and are crying for support. As for the time zone change, you're right, moving us to Chicago time shortened our daylight by an hour and made no sense as even the companies in Indiana opposed it. Mitch was wrong on that, but bowed to those who finance his political machine, business as usual.

to sour grapes: I guess the out come from the election that is to be held will tell the story for those Governors. Hope others are paying attention. But it wont matter for YOUR MAN MITCH as he is out no matter what, and what a mess he has left for the next guy. And as for the toll road being leesed that is NOT what kept Indiana solvent, perehaps you dont understand that agrement insured the company that leesed it a specific amount of money every month and if they fail to earn that amount Indiana makes up the differencee and we tax payers pay the police that patrol the toll road and on and on it goes furthermore Mitch had no business signing a lese for95 years he should have been restricted to signing it for no more than the duration of his term as Governor. Hes litle more than a thief he stole money that was alotted by the federal Government to issue a pay raise to workers whose job classification/description was deemed hazardous as those workers never got that intended raise. But since hes republican i guess in your mind thats ok. Get the facts man before you defend this stuff, people in Indiana are worse off since he took office than at any time in the past!

I’m not sure which is worse. A person so uneducated or that has such lack of self respect that he can’t communicate in writing correctly or the person that defends that conduct

How is grammar meaningful if words aren’t spelled properly and if punctuation isn’t applied correctly in a piece of writing? Aren’t spelling and punctuation critical to the structure of written language?

I found it funny that the person defending those who can't spell also can't spell. Weather is what occurs outside. Whether is the word you were looking for and wizard only has one z.

I find it hard to take anyone seriously if they can't intelligently express themselves. I was taught in school that if it is was important enough to write about, it is important enough to proof read and make sure what you have written is correct and sounds intelligent so that you will be taken seriously.

Some of the posts on here are so poorly written, that I can't even read them without getting a headache trying to figure out what is being said.

I guess this goes along with getting rid of cursive writing in the schools. If we aren't teaching spelling, why teach them to write?

No one is being asked to diagram sentences and identify the gerunds and participles. But, there are standards for basic English and spelling, and they're not being met, or, in some cases, even attempted here.

It's lease, not lese or leese. By repeatedly misspelling the subject of the post, you aren't making your point. Rather, you undermine and diminish your argument.

Hats off to the current governor of Indiana. Would that he could stay on for another term. By all accounts, he has lead us into an economic safe harbor, especially when compared to neighbors Illinois and Ohio. As I have written before, his 75 year lease of the Toll Road is an absolutely brilliant masterstroke of financial leadership, that puts Indiana in the black with a 3 plus billion nest egg in the bank that generates hundreds of thousands of dollars every year in interest and allows the state to plan the future from a secure position. I strongly suspect that the positive aspects of the Toll Road lease will be studied by students of government for decades to come.

It never ceases to amaze me that people have nothing better to do than to squack about spelling errors when there are bigger problems here in Starke County. Like alligators in the swamps and rivers. Stay on point people!!!

Point to Ponder said...

Guess its been a while since I have looked on here and RTW is still a hot topice with Democrats being the the pockets of Unions and Republicans being in the pockets of Big Bussinesses. And that one side is more corupt than the other because they are taking monies from these special intrest groups...
Hummm Sounds like you all are right. ALL POLITIANS ARE CORRUPT. About as corrupt as some of my spelling is on this post

To the Mich fans and Grammer Nazi:
Prehaps since Indiana is so well off because of the Toll Road deal, maybe Mich should have used some of that surplus towards education instead of cutting funding for it. That way people could spell better.

Anonymous said...

Point to Ponder,I agree with you 100%.These people come on here defending these politicians, like they are their brother or sister. News flash they could not care less about people from Starke County. All Mitch has really done is set everything up so he can line his pockets when he gets out.The Dems have lost touch with reality. What to do,what to do???

Clark Starke said...

Yeah that's real funny when Grammer Nazi has errors in his/her post. You have to kinda feel sad for someone who has nothing better to do than get on here and check everyone's spelling and grammer.Well Grammer Nazi I hope it made you feel a little bit better about yourself to be able to judge someone, and deem them unworthy.

Fellow commentors please dont make any speling errors or typing mistakes as you are being watched by the very shallow Grammar Nazi. Who has the sole right to try and distract people from your point or topic. Must be nice to be so closed minded and suffer from tunnel vision and also inconsiderate by wasting the time of people who understand the issue you are concerned about. Furthermore I agree with points to ponder.

I was very disappointed to have just read that Mike Pence is the fore runner for Governor in Indiana. If elected it will be more of the same as hes just like Mitch. Please people make sure your able to vote this year as it will matter. We the people need and deserve a change. Mitch has really put this state in a bad way. WE deserve better and so do our children. Put an end to the eight long years of suffering. As residents of this state that pay taxes need to elect a Governor that wont cut funding to our schools and that will incarcerate criminals to ensure a bright future for kids and safer communities for us to live in. We need a Governor that wont do sell us out by doing things like lease the toll road, pass RTW and pamper inmates and cut them loose early. PLEASE VOTE! Only with the right Governor will Indiana finally be able to start recovering from the nightmare that Mitch has created. Mike Pence is just more Mitch!

O-D SCHOOLS !!! Just as I suspected the circuit breaker does not apply so if you vote yes yours taxes will go up for WHAT ??? This appears that this is the only way to keep goverment in check. VOTE NO ON SCHOOL REFERENDUM!!!!

Anonymous said...

“For seven calendar years immediately following holding the referendum, shall Oregon-Davis impose a property tax rate that does not exceed 19 cents each $100,” stated Dr. Disney.

Is Dr. Disney saying that the 19 cents each $100 can be imposed for 7 yrs. equaling a total of $1.33 ($.19 x 7) at the end of the seventh year? Anyone know?

Mitch Daniels has put the state in a bad way???!!! Look at the surrounding states with democratic governors, which is the only state that is in the black? Typical democratic statement with no basis of truth! Much the same as democrats demeaning the construction of a statement, but not the substance, because you cannot fault truth! If you want a state run by the most corrupt of the corrupt, with the dirty work done by union goons, with ultra high taxes, and diminishing rights, (like Illinois), don't vote for Pence.

Points to Ponder said...

Ok, once again we are missing the point here with regards to "Evil Mich" vs. "Evil Democrats" Please remember a few points here:
1) UNIONS BROUGHT GOOD PAYING JOBS TO INDIANA. The biggest of which came for years out of NWI and the mills. Add to that the automotive plants and the satellite industries that came from them (here in Knox you have MPI for example) and this state use to have a major surplus since I was a small kid up till the mid 90's. That was when NAFTA, which was supported by, and passed by both parties came to be. (hmmmm who's the evil one at this point?)
2)As with all governments, when a surplus is in effect, the knee-jerk reaction is to SPEND SPEND SPEND!!! without any thought of saving things up for a "rainy day." This, once again, happened on both parties watch. I do not recall there ever being a third party "in control" of the state capitol.
3)When things started to tank, and the Mills, which was then the cheif source of taxes up till the late 90's, was taking a major hit because of these overseas deals (see point 1 please), what happened? Instead of us having a surplus, the State went into the red faster that one could say "My man Mich!" Not that he was in charge back then, but I have heard people say that pretty fast! Our government started to make cuts here and there.

Now fast forward to the present. Under Mich, the cuts have been right to the heart of programs that ultimatly effect us all. For starters, in education, roads, and as I have seen and been getting a quick education to the subject, the prision system. I can tell we are all passionate about these things as well as others. BUT we cannot continue to behave as "Its the others fault" when our children, our safety, and our security is at stake. Drop this "My-party-is-better-than-yours" garbage and start working together. You dont like what you see, VOTE! Write your congressperson and say "This sucks! Change it!" ONly when we can get back to what made this State great and work TOGETHER can we fix these problems.
And no I am not running for office. Just exercising my right to free speach.

why should someone from knox and north judson have to pay for OD school? i know we dont, but he story on wkvi out of od school was lacking on details.

Anonymous said...

So for those of you that wish to vote no, on the OD school referendum. Answer me this: what about the kids? What do they do now?

Anonymous said...

NJ and Knox will not have to pay for OD. If you read the last article they said that it WILL NOT effect the county.

Anonymous said...

OD Schools If it was about the kids like it should hard choices should be made cut out all of the extra ciricular activities, yes that mean sports, reduce all pay of all employees and support the kids not the employees!! Real simple

Leap Year Day, Feb. 29, 2012, and the sun came up on Starke County again so it is good to be alive here where the sun is warming our earth up to above 50, time to think about getting the soil ready to plant. Happy Leap Day folks and don't forget to ask somebody to marry you today(start with Tom Berg)he been single too long!

cisco will save the school, oops no if they ever do come in, they are tax free, their taxes will have to be paid by other older small businesses, yes put the taxes on the small guys so the billion dollar companies pay nothing. maybe obama can bail out od schools, spend, spend, spend, your super and school board put od in this place. if od merges with knox and north judson then knox and north judson property owners can pay for od's over spending.

Anonymous said...

Congradulations great news coverage on all of the latest lawsuits among our elected leaders, it would make a lovely soap opera. I wonder when they have time to do the business of the county! Keep covering it!

WHAT IS A PRECINCT?

Starke County is divided into 9 townships (California, Center, Davis, Jackson, North Bend, Oregon, Railroad, Washington and Wayne). It is important that every voter knows the township and the precinct where they reside and are registered to vote and where your precinct will vote on election day. If you have do not know any of this information, call voter registration at 772-9160.

VOTER REGISTRATION

This is a reminder that the deadline for all voter registrations for the primary electin is 4 PM, Friday, April 9th.
Anyone who is not registered by this deadline will not be eligible to vote in the electin to be held on Tuesday, May 8th.
If you are 17 years of age now but will be 18 before Tuesday, November 8, 2012, you will be eligible to vote in the May primary election as well as the general election in November. You will have to register to vote at either the Starke County Clerk's office on the 2nd floor of the courthouse, or at the bureau of motor vehicles (auto license branch) on Carlson Drive in Knox, or at your high school where you are enrolled if they provide the service. 17 year old voters are not allowed to vote on a ballot that has any school board issues on the ballot. Your ballot will contain all other parts except school board issues.
If you are registered and have voted previously and you have either married or divorced and your name has changed, you should call the voter registration office at 772-9160 to have your records updated. If you have moved since the 2010 general election and you have not reported this, you too must call the voter registration office at 772-9160. Maybe your move has placed you in a new precinct where you will be required to vote?
