indiana law prohibits smoking within 8 feet of this blog.

Anonymous said...

lets see if they stop smoking around the jail

Anonymous said...

With all the new laws taking effect on July first, why are we talking so much about one that most people do not care about. The smoking ban is one of the least important law. Thare are over 100 others that might, or should be given much more attention. But, as always in the political shell game, they draw your attention to one while many other laws get passed without notice. Now the big question is what else will Mitch do before he bails ? Who will he pardon and set free from prison ?

Mitch Daniels will be the new president of Purdue University in Jan. Heaven help us, what will he get rid of there? Will he cut the 4-H program, the Extension Homemakers program all over the state of Indiana, the cancer research program. I hope the alumni will keep on top of him and not let that all happen. Keep praying that won't happen. I'm a Purdue alumni.

Are the Starke County fireworks going to be July 4th? If so what time does the gates open and how much to get in?

Speaking of coaches. Is there any way we can hear how other coaches stacked up against this coach as far as experience? If we are electing these members I think we should know! I don't know the guy but just wondering what skills the new coach offers compared to others that applied. Thanks!

Who's idea was it to name the middle school gym Harold Weinberg Gymnasium?

Anonymous said...

Harold Weinberg Gymnasium in the day he was knox redskins biggest supporter in more ways than one, he was a great man. but naming any building after a local person after a few yrs that person is forgotten, but it you change it to the tom berg gymnasium in 30 years you have the same problem, maybe the knox redskin gym would work, oops redskin will be the next name that has to go. how about let a company buy the name for 2 yrs at a time, mcdonalds arena, etc.

Chris Mc howen has never been a Varaity Football Coach.

He announced a few Basketball Games with Harold Welter.

Harold and Gary Dulin got him the job.

Mitch has owned Purdue ever since he sold Lafayette back to the French. Mitch privatized Purdue in a secret echange with Mit Romney for dropping out of the GOP Presidential race. Unknown to most conservatives this deal was brokered by George Sores while vacationing with Barack Obama at the Turkey Foot campsite.
Don't ignore the facts you ignorant people a privatize Turkeyfoot is much better manage-ed than a Govern OHH forget it I forgot what I was talking about give me my dribble cup back pleease!

Chris McGowen coached with Kevin Cox for varisty level for football.
And he played football his high school years.

Anonymous said...

Wow...they did their job and earned their $35 an hour this week. I wish someone gave me credit, I work that hard every day.

Anonymous said...

They should take bids and change it every 5 years.....could be a way to generate money for needed improvements. I dido not know Mr. Weinberg but I am sure there are people just as loyal as him and deserve to have their name on it just as much. Did he or any of his kids even attend school in Knox?

Anonymous said...

i know change is always presant, but why are so many people concerned with why the middle school is named after mr. weinberg...geeze, there are more important things to worry about.

Anonymous said...

why didnt they build a varsity level gym in the high school when they built it? would have been less money than redoing the gym PLUS building another onto the middle school when they redid it. but then again im a product of the knox school system so i might have all that wrong

Anonymous said...

To those with old faded Ditch Mitch bumper stickers, Indiana is one of a handful of states in good condition financially. We don't have to worry about our state taxes being raised to cover financial problems. Have we ever gotten surplus money back under a Democratic governor? How can this happen? It's Budget 101. Don't keep spending money on things you can't afford!

Hey, JULY 5, 2012 1:11 PM
Why don't you run for School Board.
During the 1970s at the time the High School was built one varsity size gym might have been enough for a small conservative community.
On another note: The Knox School system was fortunate to have such a generous supporters in Harold Weinburg who donated new seating for the Harold Weinburg Gym. Mr Weinburg gave numerous gifts to the school.Harold was honored by the School Board for his Philanthropy.
Why don't you step up and donate a varsity gym to the Knox school system and we will put your name on it.
With your donation cost wont be an issue to consider when looking at the next facility expansion.

SPOTUS sold us out, seems the current administration’s secret or maybe not so secret agenda gains momentum by the day. And what is that agenda? If you open your ears and eyes and think about how badly the constitution and bill of rights have been eroded in the last four years it doesn’t take an over abundance of gray matter to understand.

Apathy, egotism and conceit flourishes. There is a monster under our bed, sheeple do not believe this but we shall see in the coming months.

There’s a lot of buzz lately about the federal government preparing for massive civil unrest across the country. The most recent alarm was raised when the Army began conducting military training exercises in the streets of St. Louis, Mo.

The Army Reserve’s 354th MP unit is conducting training using what has been described in some stories as “tanks” but are actually heavily armored vehicles similar to large Humvees or armored personnel carriers.

Army officials have been mum on why the exercises are being conducted in the streets of a major city, but St. Louis residents were warned not to be alarmed if the armored vehicles came rolling by

Anonymous said...

"Army Reserve’s 354th MP unit is conducting training in St. Louis"

It is funny that this is not reported in legitimate news story. But only on web sites like Patriot Update and Godfather Politics.

You would think this would make national news on TV or in writing.

Harold Weinberg was a VERY generous man in this community. he didn't ask for his name to be put on the gym, they did it out of appreciation & recognition for all that he'd done. You have no idea how much he helped the youth, hurting families, schools, churches, basicly anywhere he saw people in need, he did what he could, & was as humble as he could possibly be. So, unless you personally knew of him, or what he did, you have no right to judge. This community needs alot more "Harolds" to step up.

& pertaining to the new Knox Football Coach, I have watched many practices, & those boys are working their tails off, & coming out of practice with smiles on. He's made them eager to work, among other things, & that's a great start. & every player I've spoken to likes him, & are proud to be working that hard, so our hopes of getting a "player's coach" seems to be fulfilled...so far. I just hope he can get the rest of the athletes on board & build team unity like Knox has never had before.

I am starting a new political organisation if anyone would like to join. It will be known as
"Hillbillies for the re-election of Obama".

First order of business- Determine if a secret agenda is a secret agenda when people in Knox,In know about it.

Second order of business- Get Obama to reconsider saving the auto industry. Good paying jobs are counter productive to promoting Apathy.

Third order of business- Promote egotism. Example we need more Bain Capital type executives that know whats best for us simple people.

Fourth order of business- Get Obama back on track. When he first took office we were losing 800,000 jobs per month and now we are creating 80,000 jobs per month.
During High school I had to repeat basic math three times so I'm no math magician but those numbers are unacceptable.

Lets quit hiding under Rods bed and get out there a be herd.

If you have that much problems with basic math, and obviously spelling, then I think it's pretty easy to question, or even doubt, the rest of you logic. I think the best bet to get folks to join your hillbilly club is to have a hog roast and moonshine, and you can discuss all the politics you want. I'd suggest corn on the cob, but most of you are probably missing your teeth. With the saying "ignorance is bliss", then I guess Obama brings many people "bliss".Why don't you check out how many "green companies" received 10's of billions in taxpayer grants, then made huge political contributions, and then filed bankruptcy. And by the way...keep your eye on the debt. Also, snopes or google Soros and the UN making laws to take away American's guns(& Soros is Obama's biggest supporter). There's ALOT more, I just hope all you "sheeple" get a clue.

How To Get Around Indiana's Unconstitutional Smoking Ban... Please SHARE & LIKE... Private Clubs such as the Moose and Eagles are exempted from this law therefore so long as any restaurant offers open public membership dues of $1.00 for an annual membership consisting of being allowed to receive coupons and being allowed to smoke on the premises the restaurant would then be allowed to operate within the law and allow smoking. This is a win win for any business. If members vote to allow smoking then the majority want it anyway and if they dont (because non smoking factions have infiltrated to keep it out) then the majority want that. So long as it is a requirement that you must live within so many miles of the establishment to be a member that should not get out of control. PEACEFUL RESISTANCE TO UNCONSTITUTIONAL ORDER! By the way I DONT SMOKE!

A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Abe Lincoln used those words in 1858 to describe a country that was careening toward civil war. Now we’re a house divided again and another civil war is coming, with the 2012 election as its Gettysburg.

Call it America’s coming civil war between the Makers and the Takers.

On one side are those who create wealth, America’s private sector–the very ones targeted by President Obama’s tax hikes announced Monday.
On the other are the public employee unions; left-leaning intelligentsia who see the growth of government as index of progress; and the millions of Americans now dependent on government through a growing network of government transfer payments, from Medicaid and Social Security to college loans and corporate bailouts and handouts (think GM and Solyndra).

While strolling around at the Starke County fair this year, I wonder if our local, county and state law enforcement officials will notice that almost half of the recreational vehicles set up in the camping area do not have current license plates on them. In fact, some of plates are more than 3 or 4 years old, if they even have plates on them at all. It would be interesting to know how many citations will be written for expired plates. Hey trustees, just an idea to show that you are in fact needed and do perform a useful function - how about checking how many of those RV owners are declaring ownership and paying personal property tax on those unplated RV's as well. It will be interesting to see throughout the week how similar the age of the license plates on the horse and livestock trailers will be as well.

Anonymous said...

Hey ANONYMOUS......MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS & WORRY ABOUT PLATING YOUR OWN VEHICLES. Costs are so high on everything, especially in fulfilling these kids dreams & caring for these animals, that it's actually tough to keep things plated that you don't use all that often. I can't believe that you would come on here & say that. You're obviously for BIGGER GOV'T and NOT THE PEOPLE.

Anonymous said...

Hey Anonymous Number 2,

This is the business of everyone who drives and/or owns a vehicle.
If your plates, registration and insurance on your vehicles are not up to date, YOU CAN'T DRIVE OR USE THEM. The rest of us have to follow the law and keep up to date. SO DO YOU. If you want smaller government, petition your State Rep. Otherwise, don't give us this jazz about not being "for the people" whatever that means. That's an excuse, a cop-out and a dodge. Finally, if you're for the kids, show them you're not a law breaker.

Anonymous said...

No plates means no insurance. So if you hit someone they should just mind their own business because you were doing it for the kids. Know the law and obey the law.

Anonymous said...

So you're going to go around the county fair and issue citations???? What a bunch of rednecks. If you're so bent on being a "community watch", then maybe they could get warnings first. Catch any dogs crapping on the neighbors lawns, or anyone jay-walking lately?

Anonymous said...

I guess you are ok with them unlicensed trailers getting in an accident with no insurance? It makes me a redneck to know that if someone hits me that they are going to have insurance then I guess I am a redneck. There are some laws that are just plain stupid but something like no insurance on vehicles is not. Really do you even know if the person that pulled it there is even licensed themselves?

Who cares! Don't go if it bothers you.

I have previously posted about the Islamic threat to our Western culture but seems most want to ignore it in hopes it will go away. It won’t. I just ran across this article that is disturbing at best and thought I’d pass it along for those who would like to be informed.

The Global Islamic Civilization: The Power of a National Revived is a 23 page declaration recently produced by Sheik Farook al-Mohammedi of the United Muslim Nations International. The booklet spells out their goal to Islamize western civilization and set up the Islamic Caliphate as the global religion and government.

Al-Mohammedi states in his booklet :
“Christianity should be destroyed and wiped from the face of the earth. It is an evil demonic and Anti-Christ system, all Christians are in complete Ignorance.”

“Islamic Power has returned upon the face of the earth and the Revived Global Caliphate has set eyes on the West to once and for all rid the world of Christianity and there is nothing you can do about it. I have pledged and made a firm promise to the Caliphate of the United Muslim Nations International organization that I will do my utmost to Islamize all of the West within a short period of time…”

No plates does not mean no insurance. If you knew the law you would know that the car insurance extends back to the trailer as long as it is hooked up. Soooo if they did damage to you then don't you worry your pretty little face your car would get fixed.

Anonymous said...

Just some schmuck tootin his own "righteous" horn about the trailer plate issue. Be not worried of the thorn in another's eye, until you've handled the one in your's. Insurance on a vehicle will STILL pay for your car...or is it just a matter of money, that you, yourself are mad about having to spend, & are angry others aren't able to keep up with. What's your self issue here?

Make no mistake, Islamic aggression will be met with an offensive and the outcome will mirror the results of Granada in 1492.

OPEN SWIM
Oh how generous of our school board to deem every Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm for open swim.
Kids and parents who would not have access to a pool need this.
5pm to 7pm is probably the worst time for any parent to try to get their kids to the pool and then have to pay 5 dollars for them. They should have this at least 3 times a week for 2 dollars for the kids.
It is just too much for too little.
We don't want the kids going to the river to swim alone. So lets reconsider these things and do it for the kids in the community. Even if the money has to come from some other fund. The kids are certainly worth it.

Anonymous said...

Let me get this straight. Your kids are not worth YOU forking out five dollars, but somebody ELSE can, for the "good of the kids"? And the time is inconvenient? Are you kidding me? Well, if you want the pool open for three days a week, maybe you can find some licensed life guards who can leave their other job or give up their free time to come and watch those kids. Seems like too many parents want somebody else to watch their kids these day.....either for free or a reduced price. This board is filled with people wanting a community center, but nobody wants to foot the bill for either the facility or the staff. You all realize that in order to get insurance, you will need a business plan including how you will fill those positions with properly trained staff. How many people drop their kids off and leave for Tball practice, Youth Club basketball or Pop Warner Football? Somebody else's problem, right? Don't have time to coach? Don't have time to watch your kids either....How many younger siblings have been dropped off along with the child that's on the team? I've seen it, and I know you have too. I am so sick of hearing about how this community needs more, but the ones that are complaining are the very same ones that refuse to help out at all.
And before you jump all over me, I WAS a volunteer for over fifteen years. My spouse and I WERE involved. I can't tell you the number of times we drove forgotten children home, waited in the dark for parents to show up, fed kids who had nothing, supplied children with needed equipment, donated time when no one else wanted to help out. These are your children! Man up and do it yourself. If you want the pool open, go get certified and donate your time. Oh, wait, then you would have to pay to take the class, pay to take the test, and actually put in the hours. My bad....nevermind. Just continue to complain. I'm sure someone will pick up your slack.

I am a gun toting Demarcate and I keep reading on this discussion board that President Obama whats to take our guns. That is BS. President Obama has not proposed any gun legislation.

Here is a new releases by Mit Romney when he was Governor of Massachusetts.
In a move that will help keep the streets and neighborhoods of Massachusetts safe, Governor Mitt Romney today signed into law a permanent assault weapons ban that forever makes it harder for criminals to get their hands on these dangerous guns.

“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,” Romney said, at a bill signing ceremony with legislators, sportsmen’s groups and gun safety advocates. “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

Hope all of you NRA People do your Homework before you vote to elect our next President.

Homework? Are you kidding me?

The real deal is that this current administration (that includes Obama) is a bunch of gun grabbing liberals that want nothing more than to disarm we the people which will make their planned implementation of socialism much easier.

The UN Arms Trade Treaty (currently championed by Hillary Clinton) that has been identified by observers as a flagrant threat to the second amendment and which Barack Obama is determined to sign has its roots in a 1961 State Department memorandum which explains how the United Nations will oversee “complete disarmament” of the American people under the ruse of preventing war. The UN Arms Treaty has caused so much controversy because it outlines a plan to target “all types of conventional weapons, notably including small arms and light weapons,” according to Forbes’ Larry Bell.

Former US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton also warns that the agreement “is trying to act as though this is really just a treaty about international arms trade between nation states, but there is no doubt that the real agenda here is domestic firearms control.”

Speaking before a senate subcommittee, a young Texas professional woman testifying about the murder of her parents, had this comment to the senators: " the second amendment is not about duck hunting, it is about protecting all of us from you"! When we begin to commit to the victims and not the bad guys, a lot of the senseless violence will stop.0

Anonymous said...

True enough that obama has not proposed any gun legislation. But what he has done is commit the U.S. to sign any treaty forthcoming from the UN arms treaty meeting in New York presently. Obama and Clinton both have committed us to any treaty, which will mean not only gun registration, but confiscation. Google it, it's all there!

While it was nice of WKVI to broadcast during the power failure due to yesterday's storm, but how many Starke County residents had a radio that worked without power. Rumors had it that the tower went down, but then it was said it was the police tower. I guess it is true Man preposes and God disposes, most of us could look to the black sky, hear the rain and wind and know that nobody on this earth controls the weather, so prepare for more and be thankful for the rain not the wind and storm that brought it.

Also want to thank the city workers for their help cleaning up the downed tree debris. (I think they get paid by the hour). Some of the workers were seen hauling one small branch at a time instead of loading up. Our tax dollars hard at work.

I did not figure that it would benefit anybody to get in my car and tour the damaged areas, in fact those helping were requesting people stay home. A lot of places were closed, and a telephone to the place would have confirmed that. In fact a large branch blocked one of my own lanes, and a very nice neighbor brought his son-in-law and a truck to move it for me. He couldn't himself because he just had surg. There were lots of good people helping each other through the result of the storm. Isn't that what people ought to do whenever somebody has problems that come through no fault of their own. It is called being a good citizen even if some don't believe in good people in this area.

Their are two ditches. I think both are on sysco land.

Ohhh ye of little faith, that you would put your faith & future in the hands of 1 company moving to our community. Yes, the jobs are of great need to our area, but there is work to do in our heart & souls that would reap far more blessings than 1 company. So get off the Sysco high horse, put it in God's hands, & do the best with what you have, & work daily on improving ourselves as people, & our community will reflect that hard work. We have many companies that we SHOULD be grateful for, including another moving into the Rockwell bldg, so, dwell on the positives, but pray for more, all the while trying to be a better neighbor & asset to the community.

CAUTIONS FOR SURVIVING FUTURE STORMS: Avoid pole barn type of buildings. Keep auto widows closed, going out into a storm to close it could get you hit with lightening. Look at the Sky, is it very dark nearly overhead, seek cover inside immediately even a faster runner might get sucked into the sky and the landing might not be good. Keep water nearby if you live out of town, to drink,to bath with and to flush toilet, don't assume the power will return in one hour, in 1998 for some it was gone for four days, filling the bathtub will funish enough water to flush and then melting snow will work. Remember you body is more important than any possession so use commonsense and live to see the next storm and tell your grandchildren about the good old days! Stay home, driving under large trees which might fall on a car could cause harm to your body, the emergency workers have enough to do without rescusing you.

Going to church does not make you a christian as like going into the garage does not make you a car. Simply sayimg you are a christian and speaking of God, then in the same span of a statement, judge others and tell them how to live their lives.... well, you must be in the group that have missed a verse or two of the Bible.

I also drove around Knox to view the damage of the storm, as many others did. What I saw was alot of damage, trees down, power lines in the streets, ect. However I too saw many people in their respective properties taking pictures. Remember befor you talk about those not helping to remove debris and clear the streets that the power lines were down and are extreamly dangerious. Also, insurance are fairly "nit-picky" these days and most require pictures of any damage in order to make a claim. I would rather see the power lines lay in the street all day other than see others get hurt, or worse, to attempt to remove them.

A big thank you goes to our local street depts for opening the streets . Also to the Starke Co Highway workers who again proved that they are very concerned about their fellow citizens and again went well beyond the call of duty to help all of us .
To the City of Knox and the Starke Co Commissioners and elected officials who again came forward to do what ever was needed to help all our county citizens.
A big thank you to the Fire depts, Sheriff dept ,EMS for their assistance and to every neighbor who reguardleous of differences helped out also.
This is why we live in a small community. Neighbors helping neighbors , friends helping friends strangers helping strangers . We live in a great County . Small America USA

1) Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000 a plate campaign fund raising event.

2) Only in America could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when we have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is black. 12% of the population is black.

3) Only in America could we have had the two people most responsible
for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.

4) Only in America can we have terrorists kill people in the name of
Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims
might be harmed by the backlash.

5) Only in America would we make people who want to legally become
American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just become American citizens.

6) Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the
budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as "extremists."

7) Only in America could you need to present a driver's license to
cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

8) Only in America could people demand the government investigate
whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas
went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company(Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).>

9) Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from
the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a trillion dollars more than it has per year for total spending of $7 million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.

10) Only in America could the rich people who pay 86% of all income
taxes be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

About Aurora, CO and the anti-gun lobby’s howling.

Do 30, 000 deaths per year warrant taking away the 2nd Amendment rights of 300,000,000 ? Do the math. (since libs are really fond of math)

Did you get less than 1%? Did you get less than .5%? Did you get less than .25% What percentage did you get?

Do you want to limit everyone based on only what very small percentage does? That's the liberal way of thinking. We will limit everyone for what an extremely small minority does.

Factories and other businesses are required to have a shelter available if a tornado is heading in their direction, and a plan to account for each employee in the event of a fire or explosion which lets each person know where to go outside to account for their safety. Sometimes it may not happen but if such a situation would happen, it would protect everybody not to have to search for people already safely our of a building. Lots of employees never see the need for such fire drills, but in a big building with people spread out and working with loud equipment, one can never be safe enough. Records are kept to show they are doing as the law requires, but there are times that safety is
ignored and somebody gets hurt or killed. Even a seasoned but tired worker can get careless and make a mistake, many factories have presses made to be operated with both hands and still somebody puts their fingers near a blade. Without factories their would be no products to buy, and everybody would lose out. Each person needs to be aware of where their nearest exits are for unforesee situations.

10 points ARE CORRECT! Miniscule minorities ARE dictating the laws & what direction America is turning. Seriously, what percentage is gay...less than .05%..yet they're redefining the meaning of marriage. Athiests???...less than 1%...got the Bible & God out of our schools. And now..the 1% who've been so successful are paying 86% operating costs for America. WHAT'S THE PROBLEM???? TOO MUCH TALK & NO ACTION. I was taught life isn't fair, & don't expect handouts, yet, all I see are people NOT carrying their own weight. This Gov't needs to BACKTRACK, dissolve meaningless Gov't offices, undo the laws that allowed industry to leave, & motivate people to work, to build our taxbase to where we HAVE A SURPLUS, & not spend everything AND MORE.....WE NEED A FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE PRESIDENT.....WHO IS AWARE OF WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AN AMERICAN!

We haven't had an honest President in a very long time(if there is such a thing), but I will SURELY NOT vote for a President who's primary backer, George Soros, is 1 of the most corrupt, hell bent people in this world. Obamacare won't even take effect for 2 yrs, yet it's taxing us into oblivion RIGHT NOW, halting manufacturing growth, & he has far greater plans on the table to throttle America into submission. Truth Be Known........drink some more of the kool aid...leading up to the financial crisis, the dems were in power for 2years, stymed Bush on Fannie and Freddie at a time when Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were passing out mortgages to people knowing they would never pay anything back(CRA). Fannie and Freddie payed back Frank and Dodd and a senator from Illinois with millions in campaign funds. Then the senator from Illinois, now the president, appointed Dodd and Frank to oversee banking regulations(Dodd/Frank Act)to cripple the smaller banks who now cannot lend to build businesses. Oh by the way, who kept us in Afghanistan for unknown reasons, bypassed the constitution and congress to put military in several countries in the middle east? In looking online at various sources for playground equipment, you can find a durable, safe tube slide with twists and turns for less than 1/3 of that $12,000. That seems an exorbitant amount of money for a single piece of play equipment when there are so many people in our community who cannot even put food on their table in the current economy.

Are you sure a cheaper slide would hold up. Cheaper isn't always better. If it gets destroyed in a couple years what have you saved. The original slide has been there since the 60's.

Anonymous said...

So am I really the only person in this community that thinks that $12,000 for a slide is too much? How many behinds go down that slide in a year? I rarely see people in the park and when I do, they seem to be on the walking trails or at the ball diamond. I can think of so many other uses for $12,000 that would be better than ONE slide that is used by a few children. Transportation for elderly patients to doctor appointments, food for the food pantry and meals on wheels for elderly or home bound residents are just a few that come to mind. Day care assistance for working parents who are trying to make ends meet at a minimum wage job is another. Government needs to make spending cuts too. Not just the citizens. The economy is bad and I just find it impossible to justify spending that kind of money on a single piece of playground equipment. The slide I found that was so much less was on a site for commercial playground equipment for schools and parks so I would imagine it would be quite durable.

Anonymous said...

Was it the same size of slide? Are you at the park 24/7? Where did the money come from for the slide? I'm all for helping the poor and elderly, but you keep going on about 12,000 dollars. If you are so smart why not join the park board or Get involved with those charities. Everyone likes to sit back and be a Monday morning quarterback. The truth is the slide is here, that money is spent. Get over it and move on.

before one of you guys goes out and spends $12000 for a slide to donate to the park, ask about the federal mandate inspections and lead testing and all the other things that most people knows nothing about, this is way a $2000 slide costs $12000. just ask the junk yard, cant believe someone found junk on the ground in a junk yard. it was a junk yard since the beginning of time, its nicer now and cleaner than its ever been, should be giving them a pat on the back instead of trying to put them out of business.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! I just wonder about these people who run their mouths, how much do they pay in taxes, or do they live off the system, & how much time do they contribute TO ANYTHING?

Anonymous said...

So what you are saying (July 31 at 6:42 a.m) is that I am the only person in the county who can do a google search for playground equipment? The City of Knox web page does not say when the next park department meeting is. It says this page is under construction.

Betty said...

It is pretty amazing that so many people are encouraging someone to attend a park board meeting, but nobody attends county meetings where decisions affecting how our tax dollars are spent are made at every single meeting. I've attended every single county commissioner, county council, planning commission and BZA meeting for nearly a year now and see the same one or two people from the general public at the council and commissioner's meetings.

This is an election year so how are you all going to vote? Do you know the people you are voting for and how they vote on important decisions in these meetings? I don't even see the people running for county council in attendance (other than Talia Reed) so I have to wonder if those running for county council that are not already on that board even have a clue of what their duties will be and what types of decisions are currently in front of that board.

I see people on this forum complaining about the debate over whether or not to build a new jail, the fate of the hospital, etc. but how many of you come to the monthly meetings and express your opinions? The county commissioners take public comment at nearly every meeting. I can only think of one meeting when it was not taken due to the length of the agenda and the lateness of when the meeting ended.

So how many of you will be seen at the upcoming county meetings? The commissioners meet next Monday in the annex at 9 a.m.

Anonymous said...

sure close the salvage yard so people can start dumping on road sides again, its a junk yard, your going to find junk, the owners have been cleaning up and making the place look better than its ever looked. if it closes due to court action guess what starke county tax payer, you pay to clean it up.

O.k., I'll confess. I like to complain. I don't like the decisions that they make at these meetings, but I am not going to go to a meeting. NOt going to happen. Why should I? I read what happened at the meetings here on the WKVI website. I can voice my opinion right here. Bet you all those councilmen read what I have to say here. SO, what's wrong with the way I do it? THey don't listen anyway. A $20,000 slide? Give me a break.

Anonymous said...

Now the slide cost $20,000? Maybe you think this is a magic slide or something. Yeah your well informed alright.

Anonymous said...

There is a lot more information given at a meeting then is allowed time wise to be on WKVI. Comments are allowed at council and commissioner meetings unlike school board meetings. PLEASE attend.

If your interested, park board members are paid, not a lot, but paid.

Stop complaining, and do something.

Randy said...

Why attend meetings since you are not allowed to speak ???? Well, most importantly, you get first hand information on subject matter instead of "he said/she said" twisted information that dominates local conversations. The fact that they have PUBLIC meetings indicates that there is information that is relevant and needs to be addressed to the public. If the attendance of these public meetings remains low, do not be upset when they stop offering public meetings and simply relay edited information to the local media. Also, many people that are, or considering running for local offices/positions attend these meetings. It is a great way to observe and meet those people PRIOR to elections.

Anonymous said...

Just curious. Why is there no Oregon Davis School Registration Schedule on the WKVI "School Registration Schedules" page?

Betty said...

I would sure like to know who the many people are that are attending the meetings who are running for office. Maybe Randy is referring to the city meetings? I have not missed a county council meeting in some time and the only candidate I have seen in the room (other than those running for re-election and already on the board) is Talia Reed. I don't see the other candidates for that board in attendance. I don't see the candidates running for county commissioner at those meetings. It is to the point where we know who everyone is in that room or have figured it out by the end of the meeting due to their appearance related to agenda items. I would LOVE to see candidates running for meetings in attendance as I am really trying to figure out how they can possibly know what issues are presently going on in the county.

If you can't make the commissioner's morning meeting due to your work schedule, then attend the evening meeting on the 20th. The council and the commissioners both meet that night so it might be a good one to start with. You can get the full picture of how both of those boards run and the interaction between them.

If you don't voice your opinion and do something to change things that you don't like in the county, then it will never change. There are some definite changes needed and the only way to be an informed voter is to go out and form your own opinion about the people on these boards...observe them in action and then decide who should stay and who really needs to go.

What is the big hoopla over the new slide. This is for our children, the young children to enjoy spending time at the park and playing on it. As far as helping the elderly, there are programs that help with the heat for them in the winter. People are keeping the food pantry stock for people with families out of work and many clubs support it several times a year when a call goes out for help. There were complaints that the children didn't have nothing to keep them out of trouble, but yet you want to complain about a slide. Do you know where your teenagers are? They are down in the park. Do you spend time with them there? So don't complain about the slide. It needed to begone about eight years ago. Thank you for the new one.

When my kids were teenagers, they weren't hanging out at the park because they had responsibilities such as chores and jobs. Now they are self-supporting adults. Maybe they will quit their jobs and become criminals because their mommy did not allow them to play on a fancy slide.

Golf Carts are only legally allowed to cross highways. You are never allowed to drive down a highway. They are legal on any of the streets. Must have slow moving sign. Only during daylight hours also.

I agree with Betty- if you are running for a position you should be at the meetings. That is a no brainer.
Talia Reed will have my vote. Thanks for sharing this info.

I agree with Betty to a point. Just attending the meeting does not mean you are the best canidate for a position on a board. The question should be ask why are they there, what would they do differently and what new can they bring to the communiity of Starke Co. I have attended many meeting over the last 10/12 years . In many of the meetings a few of the members say and do nothing . Some are against everything and some for everything. Bottom line is just beeing seen is one thing. Promoting ideas that will move our county forward is much different then just attending a meeting. It takes hard work and detacation to all the citizen of Starke Co not just showing up at the meeting.

Ah, yes, the high temperatures must bring out the local nut cases that just love their conspracy theories. FEMA Camps???

Yes, Indiana Dept. of Homeland Security District 2 did conduct an exercise in Winamac this week. It was reported on WKVI.com yesterday. Fire Departments, resuce teams, disaster response teams and law enforcement teams got together to exercise procedures and equipment. If you recall, the biggest complaint about Federal response to disasters in recent years has been a lack of coordination. These kind of exercises should go a long way to quicker and better coordination of resources during disasters. Hats off to them. They deserve our support and respect!

As far as conspiracy theories about FEMA, it reminds me of the thing going around 30 years ago that the new red stop signs had code on the back of them to direct the government to people's homes. I guess the boogeyman then was Civil Defense.

The recent comments here about “freedom of speech” were interesting to me. It doesn’t take much reading at all to realize our founding fathers had different views on this subject than most of us in 2012. Their intent with the Bill of Rights was to protect the rights of State Government from Federal Government intervention. For the most part, individual rights were left up to the States.

The First Amendment says “CONGRESS shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Don’t believe me? Connecticut, New Hampshire and Massachusetts had an official state religion well into the 19th century, and the US Supreme Court never interfered. The Federal Government left these freedoms we now take for granted up to State Government. In fact, the First Amendment was not held to apply to the States by the US Supreme Court until 1925 when they ruled the 14th Amendment passed by the US Congress in 1868 also applied to the States. Even so, some States still have so called Blue Laws still in force.

Our Founding Fathers would be astonished to learn how things have changed over the years. Some would be pleased, others not so much. They didn’t agree any more than we do today.

During the severe weather on July 24th, a tree branch came down and bent our flag pole. Old Glory hung down, touching the ground. We couldn't do anything about it until NIPSCO took care of the downed wires and the branch had been cleared away. I would like to thank the person, whether he was a NIPSCO worker, tree service worker, or a passer-by pedestrian, who took the time to raise the bent portion of the pole, so that the U.S. flag was no longer touching the ground. It was a heart warming act.

I totally agree with Aug 2 4:52 AM The question of what they would do differently is one I wrote down to ask some of the candidates at Meet the Candidates Night in October! I guess I would have to wonder how they can answer that if they aren't there to see how things are being done now. I agree that voting for someone just because they attend is not a good idea. I do like the fact that Talia seems to be educating herself on the issues and taking notes of what is going on.

I worked the polls for the first time this spring and was really amazed at the number of people walking in and asking to see a copy of the ballot because they said they "didn't have a clue about who was running" for various offices. They would look at the sample ballot, comment that they did not know any of those people and then go vote anyway. How can you vote for someone if you don't have any idea who they are or what they stand for? Are we voting for the name or the person? People really need to find out more about the candidates BEFORE voting. There are sample ballots online, there are lists printed in the paper of who is running, etc. Do a little research and see what you can find out about these people. I googled the ones I did not know so I could at least read their campaign info, background history, articles about them, etc.

People need to get more involved and stop setting back and just saying "we can't change it so oh well". I used to be one of those people but not anymore. I am not running for office but I do intend to be much more informed about what is going on and do what I can to change the things I feel are being done wrong.

I'm really getting tired of people telling me about the good ole' boys club in Starke County and how it will never change. It will take some time, but it CAN BE CHANGED!

which is the price of the jail, was S14m then $23m now $14. i work nights couldnt go to meetings, i know we need to do something with the jail, i need a new car but i cant afford it now, so i dont buy a new car, yes that car may cost more in a few yrs but i cant afford it now. we cant afford the jail now, simple as that. with sysco, cisco or how every you speed it, starts to build that would be a good sign to start the jail. cisco=jail, no cisco no jail. they have people to do financial studies so the county would have to pay for that, cisco builds then we build.

if cisco builds then we build, makes since to me.

Conspiracy truth !

Go read all the executive orders and government contingency plans, it is all there. FEMA camps are real. The government does have"brown shirt" style martial law plans.

There is no fema camp in winamac, they were practicing for one. Our nearest fema camp is in kingsbury.

The biggest complaint IS NOT lack of cordination, although that is true, which is great. Our FREEDOM and secondly MONEY is the biggest complaint. Fema is always broke and never reveals its accounts. Huge waste of money. They interfere totally with any restoration and clean up efforts. That is what the red cross, local volunteers, etc... is for, NOT the federal government.
Your post is beyond laughable, but sickening, you are of course involved. We DO NOT need the feds(fema or hls) to "help" us.

To compare FEMA today to stop signs ep years is no comparison at all.

Let's. Talk about fema and the police state going door to door during katrina and disarming all the citizens. Let's talk about the man who got shot on the bridge in new orleans, which the police state actually got indicted on.

This is not civil defense and their is no boogeyman here. Save ur foolish propaganda for your brownshirt meetings. Respect and hats of to the nazis u say, hell no I am an American, god given rights, baby.

Jesus help us all

The martial law/fema camp subject is quite interesting. Typically the one who reverts to name calling, as in this case "conspricay theorst or "nut job", is the person on the losing end.

Internment camps have happened before in our country. During ww2, camp amache in Colorado held 7300 internees from '42 to '45.

The executive orders that were referenced in an earlier post are there. The executive orders that relate to fema are as follows: 10990,10995/10997/10998/11000,11001,11002,11003,11004,11005,11051,11310,11049,11921. These date back to JFK, Jimmy Carter consolidated executive orders that gives control to fema.

Maybe at best fema is big forced insurance scam, for that has been proven repeatedly, for example Clay Gates of Texas received $24,000 fema funds and then was asked to return $31,442.david bellinger, who is a 63 yr old blind man had to return $3200. Fema goes in and starts declating risk zones and forces people to buy their insurance. This is even in the process locally using flood plain as the guise. The salvation army never asks for any return on their assistance.

Or at worse it is practce for what could possibly be someday, martial law and fema camp roundups.

You have to ask yourself questions and find the answers yourself. What disasters and what chances of it happening in Indiana exists. And what are YOU going to do about it, not the federal government. Like the federal government gives one hoot about you. Earlier this year the guise was earthquakes. In indiana? These disasters the homeland security are training for are less likely than getting hit by lightening. So why are we spening money and time preparing for such?

the people involved with these operations most likely mean well and believe they are doing the right thing, but that does not make it right. This training session that was held at the Winamac town park is real. This has nothing to do with some bar code on a stop sign 30 years ago. This is clearly evident. The description of what Fagner had reported is clearly in step with the executive orders above listed.

Now the good news, folks. We are free. We are americans. God gave us this beautifull country and the natural rights we all enjoy. Make your own emergency plan and do not put much time, worry, stock into it, but as a just in case. If the government is going to make plans, you had better also. Rely on your own and help when u can and when needed. Let our human nature take course to volunteer our own time and resource when and if ever disaster strikes.

Live Liberty and to those who do not, get it fixed.
