Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on, our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yule-tide gay
From now on, our troubles will be miles away

Here were are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more

Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now

can anyone explain why its just so evil to have somebody that makes 20k a year pay the same tax rate as someone making 500k a year. yes i know they pay more actuall dollars but livelyhoods are equal and im pretty sure the 500k pays a far lower percentage once some accountants have a crack at it compared to h&r block. also why does the goverment treat us like idiots ? just change the deduction on our check stubs from social security and medicade to FICA !

that's great about the yellow river it may help on the erosion of the banks but it will do nothing for the farmers from the bridge on 35 to the kankakee actually it will dump more water on them the problem is that the yellow is so full of silt that it barely flows so lets address the real problem and not worry about onefish that is at the confluence of the 2 rivers

Should be a 10% Flat-Tax...ACROSS THE BOARD. Then, your deductions can be calculated year's end. This SHOULD eliminate 98% of IRS, make filing your own taxes much simpler, & streamline Gov't....BUT... are they smart enough to make things simple???? They like the confusion to keep you distracted from what's really going on.

Anonymous said...

Think about this.. the govt uses YOUR money all year long and DOES NOT pay you a dime of interest! All year long the IRS collects money from you and then after you spend money to do your taxes, you can then get YOUR money back. How much does it cost each year to fund this bureaucracy let alone send you checks and audit you?

The tax problem is so wrong in this country it makes me sick maybe they will fix it soon lol not its really sad what we do to our own people its much worse the most of you think there re many forms of control this is just one of the many ment to keep you down ha ha dumby

You're taxed when you make the $, taxed when you spend the $, taxed when you save the $, so when's all said & done, are we even getting 1/2 of what we made in the 1st place? BETCHA THIS IS THE OUTCOME...Obama's GOING to raise taxes on EVERYBODY...BUT...his spending spree WON'T go down. Actually, the debt will continue to GROW, & he'll continue to hemorage America until it's absolutely, completely broken...for good. I've not heard 1 SUGGESTION of how he'll DECREASE GOV'T. He's actually GROWING Gov't 3 fold by expanding the IRS, the medical boards to decide EVERYONE'S health procedures, & even more Homeland Security Offices. & we're already in bed with the UN, so I bet my bottom dollar major gun restrictions will be in place very soon. & to keep up with Fed.spending, states will increase Sales tax as well. Isn't CHANGE...& FORWARD WONDERFUL???

If you don't like paying your fair share of taxes do domething about it . Go to your lesilators Congressman Senators,
Also you might look at the tax rate in other countries . I think you'll find were not all that bad .

I fully understand and agree with the issues presented here concerning taxes. However, we, as a whole, need to focus more on a real and growing problem that digs deeper into our pockets than any taxes. HEALTHCARE. I am speaking of the cost of healthcare, over the counter medications, doctors fees, and the high price of prescription medications and INSURANCE premiums. I believe that the high cost of medications is directly related to the fact that the suppliers and producers of medications know that insurance companies are able to pay the high prices. And in turn, insurance companies raise their premiums to offset their cost. It is a moronic circle with you and I in the center. With all this confusion over "Obamacare", why is the government, who likes to stick their hands in on everything else, not looking into or addressing this issue? Why does the government, who wants to control most other aspects of every day living, not regulate the rising cost of medical cost and medication fees? Just as an example as how badly we are getting treated, the SAME medications that AMERICANS pay high prices for within the borders of the United States, are sent to other countries at more than half the price or less. Bottom line is that the cost of healthcare in America will dig deeper in your pockets and faster than any tax EVER will. So why are we not addressing this in every possible way ?!?!?

Why are people allowed to double park on both Culver Road and Main Street to drop off their children everyday and then MAKE LEFT HAND TURNS when there is a sign in the middle of the intersection that clearly states NO LEFT HAND TURNS and the police officer drives right by. I would say that this is a traffic hazard

When we go over the fiscal cliff, guess whose fault it will be. Yep, Bush. Yesterday, on the way to work, I got a flat tire. Bush's fault. I can't believe that guy.

It always astounds me how people write in with tidbits of info here-presenting them as FACT, with no proof of veracity. They wrap snippits of opinions with someone else's research and again, present it as TRUTH. And they get away with it! This is how rumors and disinformation is spread and potentiated! If your source is the Washington Post, or Mad Magazine-say so! If it's your opinion, start your statement with, ''imho''. Simple!

thing is all the past washington administartions are to blame and even more so in the past few elections. why cant the GOVERNMENT get impeached for gross negligence, ghost employment, theft and so on. WE ELECT people that false advertise that they are all about what we the people want then only do what will benefit them best. take the fiscal cliff for example. instead of literally SITTING DIWN and hammering it out they ALL GOP and DEM are only looking out for their best interests and those that slide them the most cash under the table.

I guess that all our problems will be solved at the end of the year. I don't beleive that. How much money was spent for Ombara and Michelle TO appear on all those talke show, how much spent on flying two planes to Mexico for their daughters vacation with fiends, no parents of those children on either plane. How much money spent on fancy dinners, Hollween, Easter, and Christmas parties. If Obama is there to help the people, why does Obama want to do away with Medicare, Social Security and the right for the elderly to have operations because of their ages?
Lord help us.

Nearly six out of ten Americans support legalizing cannabis, according to a just released Public Policy Polling automated telephone survey of 1,325 voters, commissioned by the Marijuana Policy Project.

58 percent of respondents said that marijuana ‘should be legal.’ Only 34 percent of respondents opposed the notion of legalizing cannabis. A solid plurality of voters (47 percent of respondents versus 33 percent) also said that the federal government should not interfere with newly passed marijuana legalization measures in Colorado and Washington.

Male respondents endorsed legalization by a greater margin than women. 62 percent of men backed legalization; 54 percent of female respondents endorsed legalizing marijuana.

A majority of self-identified Democrats and Independents backed legalization (68 percent and 59 percent respectively), while a majority of Republicans failed to do so (42 percent).

Respondents were nearly equally divided on the question of whether they believed cannabis to be safer than alcohol. Forty-five percent of respondents agreed with the premise, while 42 percent disagreed.

The survey results are similar to those reported last week by Angus Reid that found that 54 percent of Americans support legalizing marijuana. Sixty-six percent of those polled by Angus Reid said that they anticipate that cannabis will be legalized within the next ten years.

An October 2012 poll by YouGov and the Huffington Post reported that 59 percent of Americans favor legalization. By contrast, separate polls in recent weeks by CBS News and The Washington Post/ABC News have indicated weaker support for legalization, particularly among older voters.

Nonetheless, the overall polling data indicates that a greater percentage of Americans today back legalizing marijuana than at any prior time in modern history.

I’m so happy that I could literally cry.
I remember as a teenager being persecuted for using this. People digging through my personal effects and putting me through counseling. Now it seems the tide has turned in my favor. The people have spoken. It is time to legalize marijuana. We have a solid majority of support in this nation. I honestly never thought I’d see the day. Hopefully it can be fully legalized and ew can get back to our lives without fear of persecution. We should be able to grow it like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson did. If our founders could have it, why can’t we?

Jack B said...

I’m almost 60 and want to ask the young people not to hate the old people for their opinions regarding marijuana. Most of the people over 65 got their info from the Govt and we all know what they’ve had to say. Besides, some of those folks over 65 fought for our country in various wars (WW2 for example) and we should be grateful for that even if we don’t share their jaded opinions about marijuana use.

Yes, Bush was a major puppet for a secret society, & took us into a war in Iraq, that wasn';t necessary at all. There was no WMD's, it was for oil. But, we did need to go to Afghanistan & other areas to burn out al queda, but that's not working too well, either. But everybodies still so in love with Clinton, but he started the snowball. He passed NAFTA, that sent the jobs leaving on a mass scale. He also sold a ton of military secrets to China, "that are outdated", yeah, right!?! And Obama is & will be the worst ever. He's destroying upper class, healthcare, Soc.Sec..the whole Constitution. Mark my words, wait til 4 yrs & see what we have left. We're struggling to keep up with bills, hoping to get kids something for Christmas, while the Obamas' go to Hawaii on a 3 week vacation on taxpayer $. Do you people even see the picture yet? This guy came into office with nothing, & is now VERY wealthy, & detroying America along the way. Google George Soros, Obama's braintrust, & see how he got rich. Wait & see what large businesses do come March.

Marijuana is far less dangerous than alcohol or tobacco. Around 50,000 people die each year from alcohol poisoning. Similarly, more than 400,000 deaths each year are attributed to tobacco smoking. By comparison, marijuana is nontoxic and cannot cause death by overdose. According to the prestigious European medical journal, The Lancet, "The smoking of cannabis, even long-term, is not harmful to health. ... It would be reasonable to judge cannabis as less of a threat ... than alcohol or tobacco."

Jack B...THANK YOU for what your generation, & those before you did for America. Unfortunately, things change before we even see it, & society's not the same. I'm younger, been around marijauna, & no, it's near as bad as alcohol, BUT, anything in moderation can be controllable. But, we see alcohol take it's toll on lives daily. And marijauna will just be an escape from reality, & of course, another $$$ maker for "the dealers". Fact is, I don't want to be on or dependant on ANYTHING. I want to keep my edge, & for it to get sharper daily, "iron sharpens iron". Our country is losing it's backbone, compromising to everybody on everything(except the Christians). Do I want my kids smokin pot "just because it's legal"? HECK NO! As I see the "faith" in peoples' hearts diminish, it's replaced with fear, thus, people turning to anything to hide their fears. We MUST turn back into a country of FAITH, & legalizing pot will not help that. For those with disease, if it helps, so be it. But those that're able-bodied, STAND UP, this country needs YOU...NOW!

Chuck Bronson said...

Yeah George Washington and Jefferson grew "hemp",but it was used to make clothing, paper and rope. There is no proof anywhere that they smoked it. Also you are silly if you believe it is non-toxic. Light up another one and burn a few more brain cells, and tell yourself how smart you are.ahahahahaha

Yes, pot is as harmful to your system as tobacco. And the recent studies concerning developmental problems associated with the brain and marijuana use takes pot out of the herbal health food category. We did, however, notice that during the Haight Asbury days of San Francisco, pot users developing a close personal relationship with their belly buttons. All things considered, you get a no vote from me!

I am sooooo tired of hearing what these people need, or what the Gov't needs, or if we do this.... or that....never...& I mean NEVER has ANYONE, in any authoritive position, stated that, we JUST need Christ. Ever...anyone else? I'm hearing "fiscal cliff", I need this drug, or Detroit needs this $$$, list is endless. Not once has anyone said, I wish we could find the wisdom to solve these issues. The WHOLE American economy, & dream is based on FAITH. i.e....the stock market. If they get even a rumor, they bail on stocks. Gas stations, if they hear crude went up, they jack up the price at the pump instantly. Banks loan totally on faith. Where'd that faith come from??? Where do we get wisdom??? Just wish these people...actually all of us...just take a break, get back to our Source, repent, ask for wisdom & faith. And WHY do so many people believe this Dec.21,2012 prophesy? Jesus said, "not even the angels in Heaven know the day", yet the Mayans do? But, that, in no way should keep any of us from getting "our house" in order. I just pray, that as we approach Christmas, that we show our gratefulness to God for Jesus Christ, & be grateful for everything we have, show as much love as possible, smile...& enjoy life!

December 6, 2012 2:53 PM “you have no clue what you are saying get real find tru facts” It reads like you need to follow your own advise and “find tru(e) facts”. Common sense should tell you that anything aside from air you inhale is not good for your lungs and in areas where air is polluted lungs can become damaged.

Your post reads as if you’re a teeny bopper pot head that is trying to justify his addiction. How these untruths get started and perpetuated is age old. If a lie is repeated often enough it soon becomes perceived as truth. And by the way, if you think marijuana isn’t laced with chemicals you are naïve at best.

Bill Gates wrote this to address a high school graduating class. I feel it is worth passing along.

Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2 : The world doesn't care about your self-esteem.
The world will expect you to accomplish something
BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school.
You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss
Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity.
Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping:
They called it opportunity.
Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault,
so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring
as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills,
cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were: So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room..
Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers,
but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades
and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. *This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. *Do that on your own time.
Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one..

Well, strap in for this news: a new military handbook has been issued that orders soldiers to avoid engaging in topics that would offend radical Islamists. So, if you thought that the United States couldn’t get any more politically correct, you were dead wrong.

According to Pamela Gellar of atlasshrugs.com: “The draft leaked to the newspaper offers a list of “taboo conversation topics” that soldiers should avoid, including “making derogatory comments about the Taliban,” “advocating women’s rights,” “any criticism of pedophilia,” “directing any criticism towards Afghans,” “mentioning homosexuality and homosexual conduct” or “anything related to Islam.”

D_L said...

The list of rules was not written by Bill Gates - it was written by Charles J. Sykes, and is the basis for his book "50 Rules Kids Won't Learn in School". It's frequently attributed to Bill Gates or Kurt Vonnegut; but that is incorrect. Probably G.W. Bush was the first to incorrectly attribute it to Bill Gates - that rascal is behind everything! :)

With another mass killing, this time at an elementary school, it's way past time for intelligent people everywhere to stand up to the NRA bullies who are against any kind of gun control. NRA members may have a lot of money to spend on lobbying, but they are a minority that should not speak for everyone else!

Pat said...

What a terrible tragedy in Conn., the school shooting. Our heartfelt prayers go out. But not to be insensitive in any way, but I certainly hope that legal gun owners won't suffer from this. This 20y.o. kid isn't even legal to own/carry a firearm. Fact is, SCHOOLS SHOULD HAVE ARMED SECURITY, or at least arm the teachers. If the teachers are armed, this could've been prevented, for the most part. ARM OUR TEACHERS & STAFF! TRUE FACT, the most armed country in the world, Sweden, where everyone carries, has the lowest crime rate in the world. Taking guns away isn't the answer. For today, a man went into a school in China & cut up over 20 students with a knife. Crazy & illegal perp's WILL find a way, allow us to defend ourselves!

Anonymous said...

To 11:11...what a ignorant, liberal comment. NRA has nothing to do with this. Guns are illegal in Chicago, YET, THEY STILL HAVE HIGH GUN CRIME. Taking guns away only helps criminals. Learn the facts. Teachers need to be armed to protect students. Stores, bus drivers, EVERYONE WHO IS LEGAL needs to be armed to combat illegal criminals. The lesson to learn here is NOT GUN CONTROL, but to arm those in harms way, & those who are responsible for our greatest treasures...our children. I'd feel alot safer knowing my kids teachers & staff were armed. If you take guns away, crime will skyrocket, for nobody can protect themselves & oppose criminals, for the illegals WILL ALWAYS BE ABLE TO GET GUNS, NO MATTER HOW MUCH REGULATIONS THERE ARE. Mandatory gun classes for all teachers & ALL legal Americans...don't disarm the US. But, with your philosophy, you're just falling into the trap that so many dream of, disarming America.

J.P. said...

We NEED at least one security guard at every entrance that kids enter in the morning, whether bus entrances or main entrances. Once the school is in session, and doors locked, there should be a guard at the main entrance watching everyone that is being buzzed in! This is the ONLY protection our children have! Illinois has had security at schools since the 1970's. If this means an extra couple bucks on our taxes, then isn't it worth it??

Anonymous said...

Forcing stricter gun laws will not take care of the problem. I agree with the previous post, the crazies and criminals will always find ways to get guns. We take GOD out of our schools and allow evil to enter!

Anonymous said...

Hooters in knox?? Real or fake?

Anonymous said...

I don't think more gun control is the answer, but as a teacher, I would not want to be armed in a classroom. There are better ways to protect our students than to carry weapons. What if a student obtained access to a teacher's gun, or if the weapon accidentally discharged?

Anonymous said...

It may not take a village to raise a child, but it is the whole village's responsibility to protect that child at ALL costs. Removing guns from society only frees the criminal and the liberal politician to do their worst. Remember it has never been about duck hunting, it is about protecting the citizens from the politicians who would take from them their liberty. Also please remember this tragedy is not about guns, it is about PROTECTING CHILDREN!!! Take a moment from your day and say a prayer for the children and other innocents who are so easily preyed upon!

The guy FORCED his way into the school by shooting out large front window & walking through it, & unfortunately nobody was there to stop him, as with every school I've seen. I'd say it'd be wise that schools have AT LEAST 1 armed staff member in their office, because a locked door is obviously not enough for a psycho like this. We've seen MORE THAN ENOUGH of these tragedies, that it's high time that staff's look at reality, & that before each school year, those that are willing, get hand gun training & certified, & keep a firearm on them(hidin of course), or in safe, close proximity, because you can NEVER be too safe. You can NEVER error on the side of safety, & frankly, all professional, responsible American adults should be able to handle a weapon, to be prepared for ANYTHING. Do you think any one of these parents or teachers/staff in Conn would BEG for the opportunity to have shot him before it grew to this scale, WITHOUT A DOUBT. ALWAYS BE PREPARED!

W Brady said...

Why are so many people so thick about gun control? First of all guns do not accidentally go off. Someone has to pull the trigger. Sometimes people inexperienced or untrained in gun safety accidentally pull the trigger and shoot someone.

As a previous poster pointed out if guns are outlawed for the law abiding citizens only the outlaws and law enforcement will be armed in the private sector. Remember this, when seconds count law enforcement is only 10 or 15 minutes away. And if you live in an outlying area that time increases exponentially.

Anonymous said...

It sounds like some posters here think more guns in the hands of more people is the answer to this kind of violence. Think about it, especially the "people" part of such an idea. Is that what you really want?

Anonymous said...

If a trustworthy teacher was trained to carry and shoot if needed I would feel comfortable.

Anonymous said...

The problem isn't the normal, average, typical, whatever you want to call them, type person. The problem is there are a few people (fortunately very few) that are mentally unbalanced. These people show up in any group of people, including teachers, policemen, preachers, whatever. How do you identify them ahead of time? Should they be allowed to carry a weapon? To me gun control isn't about taking guns away or preventing people from having guns. It's about keeping guns out of the hands of the unbalanced people we keep hearing about on the news.

Gun control will NOT keep guns out of the hands of criminals or deranged individuals. There will always be some guy on the street corner willing to sell a gun to anyone for the almighty buck! As long as they get their money, they don't care who they sell to. So I think gun control WILL keep the regular guy from getting one.

Anonymous said...

Great point... every "regular" person should have a bullet proof vest, Bushmaster AR-15 semi-auto, 10mm Glock, 9mm Sauer and plenty of ammunition.

Anonymous said...

Regardless, this is the platform going to be used to take ALL guns from America. All while our economy is collapsing..."fiscal cliff"....& nobody thinks this is ironic? ALLLLLLL part of the plan...maybe..we say maybe, not part of the human plan, but somebody or some group is placing the dominoes to watch'em fall, human pawns are being used, & exactly what The Enemy wants. The writing is on the wall folks, can you read it?

Anonymous said...

That is why they should follow the law and not let people sell guns to each other like at yard sales or on swap shop. I don't like the idea of paying to sell a gun but a federal background check would be worth not spending time in jail for selling to a felon or even worse, selling to some psycho planning to go on a shooting spree. I am pro guns, however I do think they should treat any gun over 6 shots differently than my grandpa's pump that holds 3 rounds. I would say 6 shots is plenty to protect your house and if you've shot 6 times at one thing hunting it is going to be gone. I know some crazy person is gonna say the government will then have an advantage over us. You aren't gonna fight off an army platoon even if they have slingshots. You have been watching too much preppers.

LT said...

A ban on assault weapons is a waste of time. Most crime, from robbery to murder, is done with handguns. Let's face it. If a person is hell bent on killing anathor, they will use anything possible from a rock to a gun. The fact is that crime will only rise if any gun controll in placed on Americans. Criminals and others that seek to do the general public harm will still have weapons, while those they seek to harm will be left defenseless. So what is the answer? Maby there is not one. Not as long as there are those among us that choose crime as a way of life as well as those with genuine mental illness. Sure, you can pack the prisons full of those that violate current firearms laws. But then we will need to build more, and bigger, prisons. There goes your tax dollars on the rise........Maby, just maby, if we adopt not only the laws of other countries, but the punishments as well, of those countries with low crime rate we will see a difference. Obama stated he will do everything in his power to stop these kinds of attacks. However, because of current laws, he is powerless to to much of anything without it passing several steps to become law. And we all know how well the powers that be are able to come to ANY decission or agreement. So, until a REAL solution is found, I will continue to carry, legally, my firearms and produce it whenever my family or the general public in in harms way.

To the post that said that arming all the staff of schools is the answer. Really ???? Have you thought about that statement????
Have you considered the obvious horrible situations that may arise from that action??? All it would take is one, just one, of those armed staff to leave that weapon unsecure, such as placeing it in a drawer because they were tired of the weight on their hip during class. What if a child has access to that unsecured weapon.... think of what would most likely happen then !!!

Here's a good idea, let's all bury our heads in the sand and wait for the federal government to come up with an answer to mass shootings! Said no one ever!!! You do realize that all the monies alloted after the Columbine massacre has been diverted by the administration to other uses and there is NO security money for schools anymore! And changing the U.S. Constitution illegally will never, repeat never be the answer. And we are not the only country with this problem, Europe has been plagued with mass school shootings for years. It's not guns, people, gun free zones like schools and movie houses invite mass victimization because we don't protect the victims. What we are about to see in Washington is a gaggle of unconscionable politicians perform an act requiring lots of smoke and mirrors. Like elephants reproducing, it will be done at a high level with lots of yelling and screaming, and will take years for any results. Maybe we should turn our attention to the individual states to address the individual problems with individual programs suited to the individual areas. That's my idea, if you have a better legitimate idea, step up to the plate son!

But somebody else pointed out, inmates are more safe than school children, & same point, how come school buses don't have seatbelts??? But the snowball is already rolling down the hill, the "ole" US & Constitution will be history, as in, past tense.

Good point about people's unfettered access to illegal drugs and what will happen if we make guns illegal. With gun control, those who follow the law will be defenseless, while those who don't follow the law will be able to do as they please, without fear of harm from their victims. Let's all just leave our keys in our cars with the windows down and see what happens? One other question. If we pass the most strict gun control laws on earth, will that end the mass shootings in malls, schools, etc.?

A vote for obama was a vote for socialism. I grow weary thinking how moronic the outcome of the presidential election happened to be. As of 1 Jan 2013 inheritance taxes will be 55%, thank you obama. Having the UN control our country, thank you obama. If the current anti assault weapons bill is not passed obama will likely sign another executive order to support it. He has signed more EOs than any previous president. He is acting like a despot and has too much power, that needs desperately to change or our country will go down the road to socialism or despotism.

Where do you suppose the 9:44AM poster gets his information and how many people read that post and believed his misinformation?

Presidential Executive Orders per the National Archives;
Obama 139
Bush 290
Clinton 363
Bush 165
Reagan 380
Carter 319
Ford 168
Nixon 345
Johnson 323
Kennedy 213
Eisenhower 481
Truman 893

The question is did the poster hear this somewhere and pass it on as a fact or just make it up because he hates President Obama so much?

Not quite.

The rate automatically resets to 2001 levels (55% on the excess above $1 million) if no action is taken by congress.

Presently, the estate tax is 35% on the excess above $5 million. It's a rate much lower than during the eight years of George W. Bush's presidency.

I'm not sure that you have a firm grasp of the basic tenets of Socialism.

Here's the deal. Obama wants to redistribute the wealth. Any questions? Obama is Robin Hood. The only problem is that in America, if the private sector is not permitted to practice capitalism, then we're doomed. Take away the incentive to make money, and we are nothing better than Russia, and that is just fine with our President. I hope you people who voted for him are happy, because America is on its way to becoming just another European country on its way to bankruptcy. Unemployment at 15%, at least, not counting all the people who have given up. Another decade of malaise. That's right, another decade. And it doesn't matter who we elect in 2016, it will just be too late to turn it around. We're doomed.

Obama is NO ROBIN HOOD. yes, he'll give away $ to lazy people, but just enough to keep their low standard of life happy. He's spending, taking & taxing more than ANY Pres. in history, & has grown the Gov't TIMES TEN! They're already saying that SOMEHOW, he'll pull off a 3rd term. WHY would he go on vacation WHILE a fiscal cliff looms? because he WANTS US TO FALL OFF CLIFF. Anything he doesn't control, he's figuring out how to takeover with Gov't. He's in with the UN, & TOTAL gun control is coming, PLUS the UN will recieve US tax $(which they have for decades, but will now be formal). He's destroying the US, all the while blending US with the other unstable countries...to have a "monopoly". Robin Hood....yeah right, whatta joke

It's pretty clear that Wall Street is not feeling disenfranchised by the "Socialist" policies of our president. They seem to being quite well.

Would you like a comparative analysis of the eight years preceding Obama's presidency?

Anonymous said...

The above comment that Obama has grown the Federal Government 10 times begs an answer. Here's an analysis of total spending by the Federal Government over the last 20 years. Each year's numbers came from the Congressional Budget Office. I applied my own percentages by Presidential term.

Yes, Federal spending has grown 171.4% over the last 20 years. Yes, entitlement spending grew more than other parts of Federal spending. Baby boomers going on soc. sec. would explain some of that entitlement increase. Yes, the Federal deficit was higher the last 4 years that the previous 16 years combined. Why? Because Federal income has declined and spending hasn't been reduced by the similar amounts. Federal income during Bush's term was higher almost every year than during Obama's 1st term.

Federal Spending by President
Clinton 1993-2000 112.0%
Bush 2001-2008 133.8%
Obama 2009-2012 96.4%

Where does saying the Federal Government has grown 10 times during Obama's term come from? The hate mongers, that's where.

Our Federal spending problem is more like when a 2 income family looses 1 income and keeps spending like they still had 2 incomes,

I understand and agree.

That's why I question the rhetoric that's tossed about labeling Obama as a Socialist bent on redistribution of property.

It's patently false. Many of his critics have created this illusionary dichotomy where the president is robbing the rich to give to the poor. Yet, as you point out, the people at the bottom aren't realizing any benefits from the current system.

He's certainly not the former.

It's interesting that so many want to have armed guards in the schools; mostly people who are afraid the gubmint is comin' to take their guns away. The same people who fear the government and hate paying taxes, want more guns in the schools. You realize that costs a lot of money right? There have been efforts in the past to improve security, basically after every one of these horrifying tragedies - but then we forget about it and lose the will to keep up with security in schools - complain about the budgets, and *poof* - away goes the funding and away goes the security.

There are no teachers who want to be armed. There's no evidence (except fantasies from the Rambo-types who think everyone having guns will solve gun violence) that armed teachers would be able to stop this kind of tragedy.

It's time to stop with the NRA rhetoric. It's time to stop worrying that any effort at gun control will take away your 2nd amendment rights.

And by the way, the 2nd Amendment was for the purposes of a well-regulated militia. The founders did not intend that every Skeeter in the country, sane or not, had access to semi-automatic weapons.

D_L said...

If the President is a socialist, he's the worst one ever. Stop repeating what Fox "News" tells you. When income inequality is as bad as it is in this country, the President is not a socialist. When corporations are making record profits while poverty levels are increasing, the President is not a socialist. When the rich control our elections, you can guarantee the President is not a socialist.

I wish people who throw around that charge could back it up with one ACTUAL instance of a policy that is socialist.

You can't use "Obamacare" - because that is a gift to the health insurance companies - guarantees we all have to become consumers of their over-priced, under-valued product.

You can't use taxation, because under Obama, taxes have stayed at the Bush rates. If they increase, it's only back to the Clinton rates, that gave us a budget surplus and a chance to pay down our deficit.

Anything else you want to try that proves Obama's socialism?

Australia's 1996 ban on semi-automatic firearms makes for some informative reading, unless you have a closed mind regarding gun control.

Between 1986 and 1996, Australia had 11 mass killings. They have had none in the 16 years since the law was passed.

Home invasions have not increased. Homicides by guns have dropped. Robberies by guns have dropped. There has not been an increase in non-gun related homicides, debunking the idea they will just use something else to kill with.

Now mind you, Australia only restricted the sale of semi-auto type guns, not guns of a hunting nature or other legitimate use. But just that seems to have been enough to change the entire country's attitude about meaningless violence.

W. Brady said...

Now the real statistics regarding Australia's gun ban:

Gun Murders - up 19%
Home Invasions - up 21%
As you can see, the liberals would like you to believe gun control is the answer, but it is exactly the opposite. Just like repeating "obama is not a socialist" will make you believe he is not what he is!
One last point, check the pedigree of the shooters in the 30 mass shootings since and including Columbine - none belonged to the NRA, but were pseudo itellectual loner wacko liberals.

In no way is this meant to be insensitive, for I have yet to get a full grasp on the reality of this recent tragedy in Conn, but, you "gun control enthusiasts" would sacrifice all the guns in America, penalize the 99.9999999% of responsible gun owners, to possibly, theoretically, save dozens, maybe hundreds(if these were legal gun owners who committed the murders) of lives, & leave the 300,000,000 defenseless? Are you aware of the phrase, you can never error on the side of caution, or preparedness, which the Boy Scout Motto is "Always Be Prepared". Common sense tells me that gun education, mental health communication, & a few extra steps of security FAR OUTWEIGH any notion of disarming America. Strikes me as ironic that the Fed.Gov't funnelled 1,000's of assualt rifles to Mexico, that took American lives, & covered it up, yet, seem to be on the precipice of taking legal American's guns away. You need to Google BATH, MICHIGAN, MAY 18, 1927 SCHOOL KILLINGS. If you're naive enough to believe the Gov't when they tell us we'll be much safer if we give up our guns, you'll believe anything. The same evil that was in the English Gov't prior to the revolution has crept it's way into our Gov't, they control our Fed(google Fed Reserve Act 1912, it was sold on Christmas Eve by a 2-1 vote to private group out've England), Soc.Sec., IRS(our loans are so huge to "our" Fed, that we can't even pay the interest each year) & are integrating America into the UN. Did you know the greatest reason that the US wasn't invaded during WWII? It's because the US citizens were, & ARE, the most armed nation in the world. You need to Google BATH, MICHIGAN, MAY 18, 1927 SCHOOL KILLINGS. If you're naive enough to believe the Gov't when they tell us we'll be much safer if we give up our guns, you'll believe anything.

This argument fails on at least three points:

1) "guns as a defensive measure": Guns were pretty widely available in 1927. They did nothing to avert the tragedy in this case.

2) "people will find other means": Again, guns were widely available in 1927. Yet, this person still resorted to other measures. He wasn't forced to find alternative methods to enact violence. He chose to.

3) "regulations do nothing to stem violence": Sales of dynamite *are* now highly restricted in the U.S..

Crazy people are going to do crazy things. The fall back defense, "if owning dynamite is a crime, only criminals will have dynamite", isn't going to help your position here. Guns don't kill people, crazy people do. But guns make killing people much more simple and efficient.

From the link (http://www.ncpa.org/sub/dpd/index.php?Article_ID=17847),

Between 1995 and 2007, Australia saw a 31.9 percent decrease; without a gun ban, America's rate dropped 31.7 percent.

"Without a gun ban"?

From 1994-2004 there was a ban on the sale of assault rifles. Most gun control advocates are simply seeking a reinstatement of this expired legislation.

They probably should have left that statistic out or, at the very least, not interject a qualifying statement that is completely untrue.

In fact, if you do any research on the matter, you'd find that gun ownership laws were greatly relaxed in the years leading up to WWII. Nazis were pretty big fans of guns.

“This year will go down in history! For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!”

However, Hitler never said it, even though fabricated sources are sometimes provided. Guns weren’t that much of a problem in the Nazi era (at least within their country...). In fact, the Nazis liked guns, and started training kids early on in their use.

Perhaps today's earlier poster would like to quote their source, since this quote shows up on a sign or two at almost every gun show.

"This year will go down in history! For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future"

Only problem is, it's a hoax. Hitler never said it. No historian has ever found it in any speeches, writings or other official documents.

Let's think about the recent suggestion that schools be protected by armed guards. There are a few people out there in this world that are mentally unstable. They can show up in any kind of group. Some like the idea of being in charge, wearing a uniform, carrying a gun and they become guards. Don't get me wrong. The vast majority of guards are just regular people doing a tough job. But there are some that just can't wait to shoot something. Do we want even one of those wearing a gun amongst our children? Can they all take what kids dish out to teachers everyday, day after day?

Anonymous said...

Today please list the good things that Obama and congress have done in 2012.

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't someone allowed to be an armed guard be required to undergo some sort of background check? I believe that some of our retired military personnel or those who have been honorably discharged would make great guards for our schools. I also believe that kids might have a bit more respect for someone carrying a gun than they do someone who looks like mom or dad and has no means of control over the classroom.

When we were in school, kids didn't "dish out" behavior toward teachers like they do now. There was something called discipline and they knew that if they didn't show respect, there would be consequences. Maybe those consequences would also help to prevent our young people from growing up to affect these horrible tragedies on the lives of others. Take away the video games and return to family values. Perhaps we should ban the video games that create this fantasy world that so many of these mass murderers seem to indulge in that cause them to lose touch with reality. Violent games and movies are a big part of some of these kids' daily lives.

Hahahahaa...sell pot to fund schools...that's hilarious! About as funny as "start a lottery to fund school & pay for road repairs"... hahahaha...oh wait...THEY DID DO THAT, & it's only gotten a buncha fat rats fatter. These rats will use "justifiable excuses" to do something..., but there's ALWAYS alterior motives.

One important distiction between people today and our nation's founders... they were not whiners, complainers, moaners, woe is me and the sky is falling kind of people. They were doers!

I find the pro-gun argument that people kill, not guns, kind of ironic. Why then does the US try to keep certain weapons out of the hands of certain countries? Is it because the US fears certain leaders can't be trusted with such weapons? How is that different than trying to keep certain types of weapons out of the hands of private people that also can't be trusted? The only difference I see are the powerful pro-gun lobbies in Washington.

Why all the hype about the fiscal cliff? Seems like another news blitz blowing things out of proportion.

What is so bad about not letting tax rates go back to what they were before 2010? Wasn't the so called tax relief act in 2010 only supposed to be temporary? Now it has become a crisis that something "temporary" might not be extended?

Then there's the other side of the coin. Government spending is supposed to be reduced come January 1st. What's so bad about that?

Between these two sides of the coin, the government's deficit will start going down. What's so bad about that?

The best thing that could happen is that nothing happens!

We stand as firm on Our Constitution as we do Our Bible. They concrete statutes, laws & wisdom of the Constitution & Bible are just as correct today as the day They were made, it's only that society's morale fiber & common sense has deteriorated, also with the Gov't alterior motives at heart as well. Yes, maybe tighter restrictions so psycho's can't buy guns, but DON'T take rights away from upstanding citizens. Had a great conversation at Christmas gathering, & a few couples thought it's atrocious to think of armed gaurds or staff in schools, & WHAT IF they went berzerk? HELLO...IF THEY WENT BERZERK, WHAT'S STOPPING THEM FROM BRINGING THEIR OWN GUN NOW?? Stupid is as stupid does. Have faith in your staff, they've earned it! & our society is built on faith, are you going to lose it now? Fact is, why does Obama's kids' school have 11 armed gaurds? Why do high priced private schools have armed gaurds? It's so hard to see the plain truth & facts through all the media hype & people's ego's.

Is the elevator at the court house going to be addressed in the ADA plan? The Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in 1990.... why are we just now developing this plan?

Wow, a FISCAL CLIFF looming, with NO determination by the Pres or Senate to stop. It's crystal clear that their agenda is to bring "The Cliff", raising taxes on ALL. Is it even remotely surprising when this Senate did not make ONE SINGLE BUDGET WHILE OBAMA'S IN OFFICE??? A family making $40K will pay $2K more, a family making $70K will pay $5K more, numbers are staggering. Wait & see what it does to the economy. I also wonder what the US Diplomat in Benghazi knew that would allow the US Gov't(Obama), or even plan, as records of pulling security & making him stay, that he knew that would bring his assassination. The other 3 were collateral damage, but somebody wanted him dead. Crazy how Fast-n-Furious, Benghazi, budgets, fiscal cliff, EVERYTHING, is brushed under the rug, & we're powerless, no matter what happens or what we know.

What good does it do when it snows if the county only makes one pass down the center of the road the width of the plow. Is it too hard to run the plow down the whole street??

There's a good reason for that, the U.S. Constitution.

Article 1, Section 7, Clause 1:
All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

The power to initiate a budget rests in the House of Representatives.

Thomas Jefferson might not be an early founding father to be admired if one studied his words vs his life style. He owned 75 slaves who built his home and ran his plantation. He believe the slaves were not equal to white people and perhaps an colony should be established just for them. Yet he fathered children by his slave Sally, times were different. Young slave boys on his plantation were regularly beaten to make them better workers.
He signed the Declaration of Independence just for the white men of his era, he was the rich upper class of his day.

I don't understand the point you're trying to make. I never advocated for school bus drivers to keep a marijuana ash tray near their cup holder.

My point was we should be able to enjoy marijuana the same way we enjoy beer or anything else, RESPONSIBLY. That means you don't down a 12 pack and drive to the liquor store for more and you don't smoke marijuana while you're driving down the road.

There's a reasonable way for this country to handle marijuana and right now we're not close.

LEGALIZE IT.
TEACH ABOUT IT.
TAX IT.

Since 1974, The Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act has given the senate the responsibility of drafting the congressional budget. The democrat controlled senate bears the responsibility and the blame for NOT drafting a budget. Sorry, can't blame the republican controlled house for this one, but they are not entirely blameless for other factors!

I recently read an article about gun control in the December 27 edition of the Leader. Instead of stating how furious I am over the article (common, no one suggested giving the school staff uzi's) I would like to make the following suggestions.
1) Armed gaurds in schools. I would feel my kids are safer.
2) Improved mental health services.
3) Parents spending more quality time with their kids. Common, I played video games all my life but I know the difference between them and real life because I was taught.
4) More parents paying attention to ratings on games and movies.
5) Increased violations for bullying, especially in schools.

Roberta said...

If we do all 5 of the above suggestions and do them very very well, will it still be possible that some crazy will do the same thing that just happened? You have to admit it. There is nothing that we can do to protect everyone all day, every day, and that includes making all guns illegal. By accepting that reality we will be able to use our heads when we simply try to take steps to improve safety. Why do we always overreact to any tragedy by assuming that we can pass laws that will make sure that it doesn't happen again? We have too much faith in our miniscule human powers.

Anonymous said...

I agree there is no 100% answer to stop everyone. It's just suggestions to maybe help stop a few incidents from happening, without getting our rights taken away from us. It just a shame some people go overboard and assume guns are the whole problem. If I remember correctly the guy who did the bombing in Okalahoma City a few years back killed numerous people and no guns were involved.

Obama said in an interview aired on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “I'm going to be making an argument to the American people about why this is important and why we have to do everything we can to make sure that something like what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary does not happen again.” Therein lies the flaw in the knee jerk liberal reaction to a tragedy. Can Congress pass any law that will, "...make sure that something like (this) does not happen again." Clearly, they cannot. But, they can pass a law to make the law abiding citizens less safe. And this is just the start to Obama's 2nd term. Heaven help us all.

Too late, liberals far-leftists are clammoring for gun-control, & Obama has stated today, "Gun Control is his TOP Priority", & that "fundamental change needs to take place"...that means Constitutional CHANGE! No wonder why people are loading up on guns & ammo....& no wonder why george Soros bought up as many gun & ammo companies as he could in the last 2 years. Did you know, that in the 1st month of Obama's 1st term, he blocked the longtime tradition of the military sending their spent ammunition casings to private American Co's to be reloaded & sold to civilians. Instead, now, they are shredded & sold to China as scrap...& who knows what that brass will be used for? Ammunition against Americans I ponder?????

If anyone out there is under 55 or 60, you know you have smoked a joint or two! Whether you choose to use it recreationally is up to you. I really think responsible people should be able to do what they want in their own homes! I wouldnt recomment getting behind the wheel of a car, but that goes the same for alcahol! If people are going to do it no matter what, TAX it, and lets get this country out of debt!!! I say all marijuana taxes should go directly to reduce our trillions of dollars that this country's debt is! Do we really want China coming over here and saying,"PAY UP" or we own you? Look at all the labels on things you bought for Christmas! Clothes-China, Toys-China, the list goes on and on!!!! We need a plan immediately to get ourselves out of debt! They can argue about fiscal cliffs all they want! We already fell off!!

You are terribly misinformed on this subject.

The suspension only lasted a couple of weeks before two Democratic Senators, Baucus and Tester, successfully lobbied for a reclassification of the material to resume the sales.
