( Do you realize that most farmers today have 18 wheelers hauling grain from there fields to the elevator ?)

Yes I realize many farmers have 18 wheelers or hire 18 wheelers to haul their grain. But your confusing me. In one sentence you say Nagi is not a farmer, the next you're wondering how he plans to get his grain to the Hamlet Elevator this year. Once again, if Nagi isn't a farmer why would he be hauling grain to the elevator? If he is a farmer why would he be complaining about grain trucks on 300E? None of this changes the fact that trucks over weight for county roads are using 300E. Detours for trucks too heavy for county roads have been routed & marked by the state so they can get where they need to go without damaging county roads. We have no way of knowing exactly where these trucks are going & if, according to you & they are going to Knox, WHY CAN'T THEY TAKE THE DETOUR? If they are coming from the west use 39 south to 8 east & back to 35 south and if coming from the east use 17 or 23 south to 8 & straight into Knox. All of these roads are much better than 300E & can handle the weight they are carrying without damage to the roads; thus saving Starke County taxpayers the cost of repairing 300E or leaving it full of holes for residents to ruin their tires or other mechanical breakdowns. Some truck traffic will always be necessary for home deliveries, be it LP Gas, grain to or from the fields & elevators or a trucker coming home for the weekend but not to take all the traffic from a state road. I would not vote for any county office holder, sheriff, commissioner or anyone else having the authority to control this situation & not doing so. I say a lot, but some aren't listening. PS Yes, if it makes you feel better, splatter a pumpkin. :)

I have just checked the website now, the only issue I do see is in the Police reports. They are listed from Old to New. I will have them flipped. Thanks for the help.

WOW!!!!!!!! WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU STARKE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS!!!!!!!!!
I just read the news about the temporary weight & speed limits on the specified county roads. Very good job & thanks to Lee Nagai for bringing it to their attention.

Basic Firearms Instructions Course?

Come on Sheriff Cowen, don't let Pulaski County Sheriff's Office be one up on you. Let's have a Basic Firearms Instructions Course for women and/or men. I know a couple ready to sign up now.

the great pumpkin

hang the giant pumpkin from an acme crane

place a cut out of the roadrunner eating seed under the crane

tom berg dresses up like the coyote and drops the pumpkin on the roadrunner

lets see if he can escape from that

Actually, instead of a pumpkin, we could have a big bonfire and all throw a handful of bills in it.

Roadrunner comment.... Absolutely GENIUS!!!!

Card me at age 60? If someone is not intelligent enough to look at a 60 year old person & figure out they are over 21, can they really use the cash register correctly? Does Knox Liquor realize that now there is another place in town to buy alcoholic beverages? It's not fair to Paula McMahon & her clerks? How about I spend my money someplace that feels they can serve me without asking for proof that I'm 60?

I am getting excited about this pumpkin drop and I am almost 46 years old. The idea is very fresh and it should be very exciting. So to the person who said grow up, get a life! Stop taking things so seriously. As pointed out in other posts, that thing will just sit around and rot anyways. I love the idea. I hope you can make this happen. And I do agree that it needs to happen on a weekend so the kids can see it.
I am loving the new crew at wkvi, as they are very entertaining. I am wondering why this morning the link to the in studio cam isn't working. It is a blast to watch, not only to listen. Keep up the good work and don't let people who have forgotten how to have fun, ruin our fun. I know I will be there with my kids, when that pumpkin goes splat.

Come on WKVI- that pumpkin idea is not funny-Those pumpkins at Henslers came from other states, the local pumpkin growers in our area do not raise a 1000 pound pumpkin. To throw it off the court house, do you realize the damage it would cause. Don't think anyone in favor of this is really thinking clearly. I'm sure you would get people to come, considering what goes on in Starke County. We have been laughed at for years from other counties. Boo to the pumpkin scheme.

If you have to worry about dropping a Pumpkin, you need to get a life. Would you rather we have Cow Tipping Night on the Courthouse Lawn? How about we drive Tractors over the Pumpkins at 12 Noon in front of the Court House?

ok great pumpkin drop of 2010,

we could use the wkvi traffic helicopter to raise the pumpkin to about 500 feet, you can drop it on my empty lot just west of town, from 500 feet and 1100 pounds the hole in the ground would be the size of my planned new pool.
that way the pumpkin didnt die in vain.

i have some large netting that was left over from starke county farm aid, we can use that to secure the pumpkin in flight.

let me know.

Isiah....i believe if you go back to the statement you keep refering too when the person talked about 18 wheeler s and read what they wrote it states. " Is he not a farmer ?" That means to me and I bet a lot of others that they believe for him to be one and why would he want to stop truck traffic....Go set out on his road any day of the week and you know what you will see.....Heavy trucks !!! So quit bashing this person they did not in no measn say that he was NOT a farmer....He is and stinky one at that.

Okay then what does someone raise a 1000lb pumpkin for? How is it used? How is it not wasted? Instead of saying it is a waste to drop this enormous Gord then inform us why!! Otherwise it is a great promo Idea!! Find a way to raise money with it for a good cause!

Those 1,000 pumpkins are really just good for seeds and looking at. Maybe the folks with the Knox Harvest Fest can work it into next years festival. Tom Berg Rules.

Sept 28 article on Jason Clark. He did not have himself barricaded in his house!! He was sleeping and had no idea of the happenings outside his home. He had job issues yes, not failed relationship. He wants her out of the house. She was suppose to leave 6 1/2 years ago. She is still there. This should of never happened. She knows how he acts and took advantage of the moment. She knew he was not going to hurt anyone!! She was arrested a few weeks ago and this is her way of revenge.

Is he not a farmer ?"
You're are correct about that & thanks for bringing it to my attention but the rest still stands. I'm not bashing anyone, just stating facts. I'm sorry if you can't understand about the truck traffic & the damage to the roads. Obviously the Starke County Council understands. I'm just giving credit where credit is due. Stinky pigs or not, Nagai brought it to the councils attention & they acted on it in record time. Now if the Sheriff's dept. will just do their part it will save the damage to the roads & taxpayers money.

Lets go Redskins...Go Tame those Lions this week! Keep up that intensity!

If you want to drop the pumpkin fine but make it a charitable thing. Either ask for a free will donation or charge to see it. Then you could gather the seeds and sell them. You could donate the money raised to Starke United that helps many organizations within Starke County. Now many can have fun with this event and many other will get something from it and all will not be lost.

To the 60 year old getting carded at the liquor store: Indiana law changed this year and they are required to card everyone, regardless of age. The sale of liquor is videotaped, and if they do not card everyone for every sale, they can have their liquor license revoked when the video is reviewed by the excise officials.

"Indiana law changed"
Thanks but I am aware of the law change, I am referring to the comment from Paula McMahon owner of Knox Liquors after being notified that legislation that requires all citizens to provide proof of identification when purchasing alcohol "MAY BE AMENDED" as reported on WKVI yesterday. She feels the law should stand as is. Read the archives for yesterdays article for her reason. I don't know or didn't know about the sale of liquor being videotaped. I don't complain about showing an ID when buying alcohol because it is the law & owners & clerks have no choice. It's an unfair law & should be changed (amended). Carding a 60 year old person does not stop the sale of alcohol to minors. Fake ID's still exist & underage drinking is not stopped.

Tom Berg is very entertaining with a great sense of humor, perhaps his desire to drop a big pumpkin could be expanded to entertain the people passing the radio station.
I think filling a pumpkin with Tom is just a beginning of a new tradition. Why can't we have a dunk tank using WKVI male employees? Or they could take part in a pumpkin eating contest, it would be messy but would attract attention and possible donations, to be saved for Tom Berg's early retirement party, seriously Tom is very interesting but he is soooooooo new to our area. It will be interesting on April Fool's Day what might involve him.

Wow, I was reading last month's comments where so many people got their underwear in knots over the silly Knox video. I am 56 years old, and, having lived in Knox for a good part of my adult life, I found it actually quite humorous. There was nothing that was not TRUE in the video, just maybe taken a little out of perspective, but that's the way it is in all communities, it's not always a bed of roses in every neighborhood. (funny thing, now that I think about it, with Starke County being so high in the state at the poverty level, maybe this is a good way to get the point across that some real clean up is in order...and NOBODY can argue with that!) I also commend the young lady for standing up and not running and hiding when coming under attack, as she did here. Geeze, people, lighten up and get a backbone. If the shoe fits...well, you know. There's lots of good in Starke County, and a lot of good people, no one ever argued that, but there are some things not so pretty. Maybe they'll make another video someday and use rose colored glasses in all the 'gray' areas and sing and dance and just be happy. ;)
