Remember when the Obama and the Democrats put Obamacare on the fast track? You didn't see Republicans leave Washington. They stayed and fought even though they were out numbered. Remember what happened in the last election. If you don't like what Mitch is doing, contact Indy. Duh. Get a hold of Republicans in Indy and tell them what you think. The state should still be ran by the people. And yes, some unions are needed some are not. And really, what is wrong with school vouchers?

This stunt has motivated Starke county residents. I've heard of a present elected official who says that they are going to run against her now, on the Democrat ticket, and this is there number one issue. I'm ready to make my campaign contribution. We need new leadership.

This bill is about so much more than tenure. This bill calls for cutting spending on kindergarten and pre-K (Indiana is one of the few states that doesn't fund preschool already!). It calls for tax payer money to fund students to go to private schools. It calls for the opening of charter schools that only have to have 51% certified teachers. It says superintendents don't have to have any experience in the educational field.

I don't care about the tenure, it is the other measures that scare me. If they vote now, then it's a done deal. Voting people out in the next election will be too late for public education. Period.

Here is the issue with public schools/and school corporations. They are more political than any city, town or county. Look at any school corporation in Starke county. Look at the payroll and look at the positions. Just assemble in your mind for a minute the money that flows through them and the local control they possess. So... of course to some this is Money out of their pocket if school vouchers become a reality. Everyone always refers to the poor teacher and how they have to endure so much. Well, the teachers are now going to be subject to stringent requirements which in turn will make them perform. We should reward those that perform and with collective barganing, you are unable to properly reward those educators. Take your time and personally investigate who is on your local school payroll, everyone from janitors, bus drivers, teachers, secretaries, cafeteria workers, and aides...

some may ask why i would run for elected state office.

#1 I would be the most honest elected official ever.

Why--I am interested in the power, the money, the pension and the high paid job after its over. The more I do for the people, the more likely I will be re-elected, that way I would make more money and more power.

#2 I will run as a democrat.

Why---A democrat here is more likely to be elected, I think the democrats and republicans are both jokes, but i would pick the democrat party just to help myself to be elected. Because I am in it strickly for me.

#3 Will I take donations?

Answer---OF Course, but I will let you know it will probaly go straight in my pocket for wine, women and song.

please ask any question you want

Thank you Nancy for supporting working families and public education. The vast majority of Starke county residents are supporting your actions. The Republicans did not run on these issues during the election so they do not have the support of the people. I feel lied to by my Republican party at the state and federal level.

Too bad some people are so easily fooled by this Republican ruse. Unions have only helped the economy by creating the working middle class. If you think big business cares about its middle class employees, just recall how many of them left after the free trade bill passed. Education is being attacked so big business ca...n sell their products that "improve" student learning. Apple is aggressively pushing computers on to schools with their one-to-one initiative. These education bills are being pushed so that big business can sell their snake oil to schools without having to convince the teachers of its worth. The only failing schools are from the inner cities and everything is failing in the inner cities. I have not heard ONE public education teacher supporting these changes. How can over 90% of the teaching profession be wrong?

Do you people get news from other than STARKE co.? Indiana DEMS ARE NOT the only ones sitting in ILL. You find time to read the local news try spreading your reading a little. . There are other states that are facing the RIGHT TO WORK and other laws. 22 states have this law, others are fighting over it... Indiana Dems. are NOT the only ones that think it will do much harm to our state and divide our class-- RICH and POOR! google for some research(or do you not know how?)

Anonymous said...

So because the democrats from other states are running away to Illinois, our elected representative should do the same? What a bunch of nonsense. They need to get back to where they are paid to be and work it out. If they lose the vote, they lose the vote....we are stuck with Obamacare because of a vote that we couldn't change. Did the Republicans act like a bunch of babies and run away. No, they were where they were supposed to be and the vote passed and has been challenged since through the proper channels. Our children are oh so screwed....what kind of a future will they have in this country???

So...did anybody hear about the cock fighting? Where was that? Why hasn't that made the news on WKVI even though it has been on the South Bend news? We have no choice but to read the news on other sites because this one really only provides a very limited amount of info on what is going on in the world.

Obama didn't put Health Care on the fast track. It was discussed during the 2008 election. Three House Committees discussed several bills and two Senate committees. Many Republican amendments were added, including the universal mandate that the Republicans are so upset about now.

The problem is Republicans are giving us all the big lie. And too many people are falling for it.

This is exactly what we need to improve our already poor reputation...COCK FIGHTING?!! Seriously, I'm ashamed. 145 cocks, kids with no shoes on, people hiding in ditches and tree hollows? The meth epidemic isnt bad enough, now we get to be known for cock fighting. I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I was confused when I heard that Democrats had fled to Illinois over the Right to Work. As suggested by others, I searched and found some answers in an article (and comments) on The Wallstreet Journal website:

and an online article by The Huffington Post:

Historically school busses have loaded and unloaded in the parking lot behind the middle school. The parking lot was built specifically for that purpose I am told. That said. I was curious exactly why there are five school busses loading on Main Street every afternoon exacerbating an already difficult traffic situation there at Main and Culver?
After doing a bit of inquiry with law enforcement and the school superintendent the reason apparently is to save a few minutes of time. Seems to me a few minutes of time verses additional public inconvenience and inherit safety concerns would dictate returning to loading and unloading in the rear parking lot as was done before.

I guess "fast track" was not the correct term. But it was a partition vote with the Dem leading the charge even though a majority of the country was not in favor of it. In the realm of "fast track" though, the bill was around 2,000 pages and at the time of the vote nobody had the chance to read it all. It seems the Dems didn't listen then and the Rep may not be listening now. Make a difference in 2012 if needed. Call Mitch or any other Rep in Indy and tell them what you think.

IN Honor of TOM's 8th Month and prior to his State of Radio Address tomorrow morning, let's do a straw poll with two opinions:
Yes--he stays without a raise
Yes--he stays with more humor
No--he goes for all of those bad weather reports.
No--he goes just out of the need to hear new voices in the morning.
No Opinion--since this does not count as a employment requirement.

Anonymous said...

Those taking part in the straw poll should be aware that April Fool's Day is one month away. Can you imagine what might come over the air after Tom unites with the previous announcers to fool their listeners. But do not let this let fact influence you vote but do vote, Tom will certainly appreciate it!

People hiding in ditches and hollow trees? A barefoot child? That would be a bad enough image, but did Bill Dulin have to be broadcast on local TV using such poor grammar? There "was" roosters?? Come on Bill. Take a few minutes to study a few basic grammar rules before making a bad image worse.

Anonymous said...

Why can't those roosters taken in the raid be donated to citizens of our county to be made into dumplings? It seems a shame to just destroy them and charge the county for the deed. I am sure that Lenny's cooking talents includes chicken and noodles too. It is a waste of good food to just kill them. Maybe Tom would like a feather for a new writing too. Just putting it out there.....

Main street, northbound, in Knox between Bender st. and Washington st. is an accident waiting to happen. With extended trucks and vechiles parked diagonally, one must drive in the southbound lane to keep from hitting them. Time to go back to parallel parking.

Passage of obamacare was no different than signing a blank check. Now who in their right mind would do that and hand the check to those inside the beltway? Doesn't speak very well of their intelligence.

As far as the "roosters" becoming food for public consumption, I am glad there are laws that prohibit this. For the unsuspecting consumer products such as these roosters, more than likely have been given growth hormones, steroids, and other drugs to enhance their aggresive behavior. There is alot to be said for "USDA"

well i am glad the cock fighting wasnt what i first pictured in my mind.

if they are found guilty place them in a small cage just in shorts with the total number of fighting chickens that would equal their weight and then set the winner free.

2nd big arrest like this in the last few yrs.

hope they dont start bull fighting here next

as far as the money the fines should be 100 times our cost plus several 100's of hours of service

Anonymous said...

cockfighting cruel? give me a break. What about hunting? Do you think the deer, goose, or bear enjoys being hit by a bullet or arrow? C'mon legalize cockfighting and make it big business.

Anonymous said...

Good Story on the rooster fighting arrests, so what happens to the money that was taken in the raid and the cars taken too. Does any of the money get to stay in this county and pay for housing those arrested and the salaries of the policemen involved in it?

APRIL FOOLS DAY is one month away, so folks lets unite and plan on returning the favors that the WKVI team has offered their listening public in all the years past. BEWARE THE MARCH is coming, will it bring in a new snowstorm, the last one is leaving our memory too fast!

Anonymous said...

How can anyone compare cock fighting to hunting? Responsible hunting is not cruel in any way. An well placed arrow or bullet is a quick kill and the animal doesn't even know what happened. Hunting also serves a purpose...it puts food on the table for little to no cost.

Cock fighting is cruel. These birds don't die quickly and they have blades and such attached to them that make it a horrible thing.

I agree...these birds could never be rehabbed or added to a backyard flock. They have been made to be aggressive or are breeds that are naturally more aggressive to begin with. I won't even eat that stuff they sell in the store so I certainly don't want to eat something brought in from who knows where...fed who knows what.

To Anonymous on Feb 28 Yes all the animals feel pain, but why is abortion still legal? Because you democrats think it is right. a fetus does feel pain, just like a fetus knows his/ her mother before they are born. And just like a chicken nows he will be soup!

Anonymous said...

A person talking about hunting is automatically a democrat that is in favor of abortion? Wow, with leaps of judgement like that no wonder Starke County is known for being ignorant. FYI - I am not the poster who remarked about hunting and I am a very pro-life democrat. I can't wait to see what kind of assumptions you make about me.

Anonymous said...

No, hunters aren't automatically democrats who are in favor of abortion. I think the posters point is everyone is so worried about these chickens, and don't get me wrong this is bad. Abortion is so much more worse than that. That's why Starke County is known for being ignorant. People like you who have to have everything explained to you like you were a 5th grader.

I just received a letter from the Pulaski County Assessor that we must file a Personal Propery form
and it stated that we must file with them before making any changes to property that costs more than $500.00 I just had a new roof put on I consider this nothing more than maintenance not an improvement I will be paying more taxes on this. Pulaski County should encourage people to improve their homes not punish them. I want people to think what a nice area this is with well kept homes. We should not be afraid that if I fix or imporove this will cost me more money and not do it perhaps
