Several times a week WKVI reports about people being arrested for METH charges, and I constantly read on hear about thier pleas and being sentenced to HOME DETENTION. So my thought is this the police and Starke Countys Prosecutor and Judges dont see this as a serious matter! No real time is served by these people, some of thier charges are CLASS B Felonies and yet they are placed on Home Detention which begs the question WHY? Folks convicted on Cocaine and Heroin charges are incarcerated yet these METH Heads are sent home to think about what theyve done. METH is a huge problem in this county so why arent the Prosecutor and Judges treating it as such? Stiffer penalties need to levied on these people otherwise they just continue to use and make Meth there is no fear on thier part of being caught when they know that all they will get is a slap on the hand. Im very disappointed that these elected officials are jepardizing the safety of our community! This is a HUGE and GROWING Problem that is effecting all of us in some manner or another. Speak up people!! PUT THE METH HEADS AWAY. I dont want them next door on HOME DETENTION.

I thought the same thing. The comments seemed to just stop at Feb 19. Then I noticed at the bottom of the page a link to newer posts.

I'm glad I'm not the only one making that error.

Some comments ARE worth reading.

sell the buiding downtown for $1, if someone could rehab it to safe standing within 1yr. save $300,000. if its torn down, nothing due to all the regulations will ever be there.

downtown building story:

sell the building for $1 if the buyer can re-hab it to safe standing in 1yr. then give that buyer $50,000 after the rehab is done, saved $250,000.
then loan the $250,000 to downtown businesses for fix up projects, at -20% interest thats right negative interest, that would cost $50,000, still have $200,000 left of the $300,000 to make it a vacant lot. end result, building is now re-habbed, downtown is fixed up, saved $200,000

Seems our Police and Judges have sorta given up as far as it goes. The War Against Drugs is over and Drugs Won. They arrest one and six more pop up. I to believe that they simply dont serve a enough time, and while they are locked up all they do is swap ways to make the stuff. NO method of rehabilitation has truly shown any success they just keep on using the stuff, and so many have died from it. Probably is bettter if they are locked up for longer periods of time. Meth does affect all of us, as you called them Meth Heads commit other crimes to buy/make the stuff like stealing and burglary not to mention neglect of dependants and battery, resisting law enforcement etc.. Something more needs to be done for certain.

It appears that drug sentencing in this country has been over influenced by the left and the bleeding heart libs who insist that drug related crime is victimless. They cry that the cost in human lives and treasure is too much to keep locking the violators away from society. The actual cost in actual human lives and treasure lost or stolen is never discussed by the libs as it would vacate their one sided theories. So it becomes a shouting match with the winner being the one who shouts the longest and loudest, the loser is reality and the public sensibilities. If it happens that fairness and justice will win, the other side runs to Illinois! Kudos to Judge Hall who recognizes the public sensibilities are not served by continually letting habitual offenders walk away from CRIMES unscathed. It is hard to find understanding in the system if you haven't been involved with the inner workings to see how "things" actually are progressed. What the system sees as the necessary natural progression of sentencing seems un-natural to those not involved everyday in its workings. "Things happen" because of uncontrolable factors like insufficient funds, no physical room in the facilities, etc. The logistics have to be just right to match the violator with the adjudication. In the same vein, there is no excuse for leniency to one who has numerous times thumbed their nose at the system and continues to destroy lives and property to sate their behavior! And we have to suffer the ever present laison between prosecutor and defense attorney, the resultant illegimate child of that liason is named "plea bargain"! The bottom line is when you're up to your butt in alligators, it's hard to remember that your first responsibility was to drain the swamp!

MARCH 3, 2012 2:15 PM Get off your whining but and do something about it

Anonymous said...

To get off your whiney but:

What would you have people do? We vote and we report when we know something that the police should be made aware of. Please tell us what else can or should we do? As residents here we are concerned about this problem and practice awareness we also trust the officials to do what is best for the community as a whole but the actions that are being taken are minimal, its a fact that tougher sentencing is a must. Not all of us can run for office as we may not have the creditials for the job, but the ones that hold the positions need to think in terms of whats best for the community. Meth related crimes are not victim less, theres a victim for every theft , burglary and assult children in these situations are also victims. We just feel more needs to be done and that makes us whiners. Dont you want a safe community to live in?

Anonymous said...

Well I do not believe Home Detention is an answer to the problem as most of the people who have been on Home Detention dont have seemed to have gotten much out of it or learned any kinda of lesson since they have re offended. Then once again been arrested and placed back in jail,so what exactly was the point, to just buy the the state or county time to make room for them? Tax dollars wasted on yet another program that fails to live upto its hype!

VOTING

The primary elections are quickly approaching in early May. Do you know what township you reside in and what precinct within that township where you are registered to vote? If you do not, you will need to know this on election day. You must vote where you are registered. You would be surprised to know that almost half of the voters do not know what township they live in and more than half do not know what precinct they have been assigned to. A Precinct is a group of up to 1200 voters that reside within a township. During this month I will give you additional information concerning where the precincts will be voting. If you need information about your registration telephone 772-9160.

I think home detention is the answer. It cost a lot of money to lock them up and if we are going to lock everybody up who is a drug addict in this county then we better dig in our wallets to built a jail for over 1,000 people. We dont want to pay for it. It cost more to put them in prison than to educate a kid. Lets get our priorities straigt.

Creech said...

There are currently more than sixty offenders under the supervision of Community Corrections. The percentages of felons v misdemeanors is not known but since the majority are drug related it would seem likely the majority would be felons.

Recidivism is common. Clearly the system is not working due mostly to the liberal approach to the problem which was pointed out previously on this site.

I am in no way a supporter of Sharia but one characteristic of it would be very beneficial in controlling the meth epidemic here just as it controls drugs in countries like Saudi Arabia where drugs, and alcohol for that matter, are virtually non-existent.

We pay for criminals one way or another. Our insurance premiums go up when we have to file claims do to them vandalizing, or for being a victim of burglary, we also pay more at stores because of them stealing and our tax dollars are probably helping them with some form of welfare and since I suspect that they dont have insurance or pay their medical bills we again pay more for our services to help cover that cost as well and we are indirectly paying for this home detention program as it is funded thru a grant from the state and this grant money comes from who? Yes that would be us the tax payers again so how are we saving by puting them back out on the street by means of home detention? Seems all this does is provide them with the opportunity to continue to commit more crimes or runway and not be held accountable for what theyve done. Furthermore our jail would not have to house all of them as many of them should be sent to a state prison that were already paying for via tax dollars. Did you get a reduction in taxes when they started this program because of all it saves?

Anonymous said...

Maybe it wouldnt cost so much to incarcerate inmates if they cut out all the perks like video games and such and why arent they made to work any more back in the day didnt they farm to grow food for the prison and sew the jumpsuits they wear or other things like that? Prison is suppose to be a punishment not club med, and yet they seem to live better in prison than some of us do.

Im for Sharia if its results are better than anything were getting from these liberal programs to rehabilitate that arent working and is just wasting tax money better spent elsewhere. We need to go with what has been proven to work and has real favorable results.

You need to do a little more research before making a statement like that when the 2010 World Drug Report, published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, shows that Saudi authorities seized nearly 13 metric tons of amphetamines in 2008, out of a total of 15.3 metric tons in the entire Middle East.(from http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/138762) if you care to read this whole story.

Creech read the article here:

http://alcoholrehab.com/international-rehab/alcohol-and-drug-rehab-saudi-arabia/

A clip for the ones not wanting to read the whole article.
Saudi Arabia’s government is an Islamic Absolute Monarchy and is governed in compliance with Sharia law. As such, alcoholic beverages are prohibited, and the stigma associated with drug or alcohol use is strong.

“For those who suffer from alcohol and drug abuse, treatment is scarce and the stigma so great that most never talk about their addiction, even to close family members….one the biggest roadblocks to recovery and awareness in Muslim and Arab communities is denial and shame.”
–Muslim Culture Magazine

There also appears to be a growing problem with addiction in Saudi Arabia.

According to an article in Arab News, solvent abuse is “a growing trend among secondary school students in the Kingdom with many abusers progressing to harder forms of substance abuse such as cannabis, hashish, opium and heroin.”

Also, according to a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Saudi Arabia, there are considerable seizures of fenetylline (a stimulant known as Captagon in Saudi Arabia). Based on this fact, the UNODC speculates that this “would seem to imply that these drugs are abused in Saudi Arabia at a significant scale.” The UNODC country profile goes on to state, “There is also abuse of cannabis. Reports also mention a rising abuse of heroin and cocaine, albeit at a low overall level.”

Additionally, the UNODC concludes, “There may…also be a considerable amount of ‘hidden’ abuse in Saudi Arabia” because “cultural and social restrictions prevailing in the region may impede addicts from admitting to their drug abuse.”
There are hundreds more articles on this subject & the majority saying the same things. Please do your research. Many are being mislead.

I have worked in the Kingdom of SA and can assure you alcohol and drug possession or use of was dealt with swiftly and sternly. If a foreigner you were under Saudi law just as a Saudi citizen would be and your punishment would be severe at best.

Check out what the US State Department has to say about that. Visit:
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1012.html
Scroll down to” CRIMINAL PENALTIES”

In part it reads “Convicted offenders can expect long jail sentences, heavy fines, public floggings, and/or deportation. The penalty for drug trafficking in Saudi Arabia is death. Saudi officials make no exceptions. Customs inspections at ports of entry are thorough. The U.S. Embassy and Consulates General have no standing in Saudi courts to obtain leniency for a U.S. citizen convicted of alcohol or drug offences”

Concerning the drug problem :
No matter what the issue is related to drug offenders, let's remember that dealing with these people takes money. The cost of housing offenders is constantly rising and federal mandates on how these people are treated constantly change. The health care cost alone is staggering. Gov. Daniels' attempt to lower the cost of incarserating offenders has had a large inpact on these cost by privatizing several services such as food services, medical services, and maintenance services. However, many FEDERAL mandates force states to supply other "services" that the state has no choice but to comply with. One of these "services", or programs with high cost is the recreation program. Inmates MUST be supplied with recreational programs and all the equiptment required for these activities. The reason for these mandates are direct results of lawsuits brought on by inmates themselves. And to be honest these activities are an important part of the daily running of a facility. Without these activities, the inmates would have an abundance of idle time that would otherwise be used by inmates to take part in other adverse activities and further put officers safety in danger. Remember the old saying "Idle hands are the Devils workshop" ?? This is a fact in prisons/jails.
I agree that inmates are given too many "perks" while incarserated. On the other hand, they do not hire enough staff to properly supervise these inmates so the extra "perks" mainly act as a substatute for supervision. In fact, on a average "dorm" up to 200 inmates are housed, with just one, yes ONE officer. And most of their time is spent at the door checking offenders off in and out of the dorm for work, school, recreation, visits, medical issues, ect... During these times the "perks" holding the inmates attention comes greatly in to play.
People say "Well just hire more officers". THat takes money. Monies the general public do not want to hear about and think putting money into the prison system is a waste. We cannot have it both ways my friends. Most people simply want offenders off the streets and in prison, but do not want to know anything else about it. Sadly, that is one of the greatest problem with the prison system. The lack of knowlage.

Can someone quote the actual federal law that states Indiana "MUST" provide recreation and equipment for county held prisoners. Other states do not provide this, notably Arizona. I do believe this would be a question of enumerated powers, a power delegated to the state and not for a federal court to rule on. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but hopefully will not cite the 8th amendment as the liberal federal courts have beat that one to death, and have forced their will on us, with their own personal thoughts and descriptions of "cruel and unusual"!

Anonymous said...

Creech, On Mar. 4, 6:56 AM you wrote drugs here should be controlled as they are in Saudi Arabia where drugs, and alcohol for that matter, are virtually non-existent. This is what I am saying is wrong, NOT how offenders are punished. Evidently “alcohol and drug possession or use of was dealt with swiftly and sternly” isn’t working for Saudi Arabia. I have always been a huge supporter of stronger penalties for criminals but after reading the statistics on Saudi Arabia makes me second guess myself. Definitely not working for them.

For anonymous on March 5, 2012 6:02 AM - See Indiana Administrative Code specifying County Jail Standards. "210 IAC 3-1-15 Inmate rights (e) An inmate shall be given a reasonable opportunity for physical exercise and recreation outside of his immediate living
quarters and out of doors where feasible, consistent with the security and resources of the jail."

Anonymous said...

Thank you for the information on the jail recreation standards,but.......where are the requirements for special equipment, etc. Looks like all that is required is a yard and a ball!

Anonymous said...

If inmates were made to work then they would be busy with work and would NOT need to be babysat with PERKS! Also if our government quit wasting money on drug rehab programs that have poor at best results they could use that money for more staff increasing safety and security for staff and inmates alike and maybe even create a few jobs for the unemployed. If the results arent there like with the substance abuse programs then why do we keep pouring money into it? Spend it elsewhere in an attempt at better results or better out come.

I do not deny Saudi has a problem, how many countries do not? What I am saying is their numbers are miniscule compared to ours due not only to their population being much smaller but their methods of punishment.
Incarceration in a third world country (remember Midnight Express) makes Starke County jail look like a five star, public floggings and even the possibility of death by decapitation. Per capita their numbers are low.

If bleeding hearts would let punishment like that exist what do you think the results would be? All the manufacturers and dealers would be eliminated for good and who would want to take a chance at having a public flogging with a cat-o- nine tails or have an incarceration environment like a third world country?

I think you and I are on the same page with different perspectives.

Anonymous said...

There is no requirement for special recreation equipment for convicts in Indiana. What FEDERAL requirement are you refering to when you say "Inmates MUST be supplied with recreational programs and all the equiptment required for these activities." Please site the reference for your comment. If you can't do that, then your statement is most likely urban legend rather than fact.

Anonymous said...

In response.... I worked for the IDOC for 20yrs and have faught tooth and nail to reduce the ammount of recreational activities provided. And the statement of making inmates work... well the state tried that approach as well. Most facilities had work programs for many years. Until a law suit by prisoners claiming "slave labor" laws shut down most of those programs. What astounds me is that NONE of the reactions to my post mentioned or even eluded to the safety of the STAFF.

Anonymous said...

To the poster March 5 at 2:37 pm :

There is a post that said if less money was spent on Perks for inmates perhaps that money could be used for more staff to insure safety and security for staff and inmates alike. Im all for providing more staff and/or more or better equipment for staff over providing perks for inmates. Thats the way it should be. And whoever said more needs to be known about what goes on in a prison is exactly right, far to many people just dont know enough of what happens or that their tax money is spent catering to inmates. As I understand it IDOCs budget is greater than any other department and theres alot of waste on pathatic programs and perks for inmates. Not only are they given video games and weights etc.. but this time cut business is for the birds. I would like to know more about this law suit dealing with inmates being "slave labor" just because they are incarcerated doesnt not mean that they shouldnt have to earn thier keep, thru means of work.

Just pondering said...

To the former IDOC worker: I can only imagine the stress involved with that job, and the very real dangers you experienced every day at work. Thank you for being willing to do a job most of us would not choose.

In reading these prison/home detention posts, I sense a lot of hatred and anger. We hate paying, we hate fearing for our safety, we hate drug manufacturers and addicts who keep them in business, we hate government officials who can't seem to fix the system. Let's face it: we're broken. We keep trying to find a better way to punish people, and nothing seems to satisfy that, because we really want that punishment to take place without our involvement. We don't want anything to do with it personally or financially. We just want to distance ourselves from it, but it keeps coming right to our door, or sometimes even entering our own houses.

Really feel compelled to mention Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona, again. He is one who runs the tent city and makes the inmates work on his chain gangs, for the public good. He gets sued on a daily basis, and never loses. All the claims of "cruel and unsual punishment" are disproved. And he even has the inmates running the animal shelter, saving thousands! There is no secret here, all it takes is one person with the guts, backed by legislators with guts, to do the job! Bleeding heart liberals need not apply, that's the problem in the first place!

In Starke county they do not have video games in the cell blocks all they have is a tv. We do have some inmates who do go out and work for the county. They Clean up the roadways picking up trash.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona had 2700 lawsuits against his dept between 2004&2007 . How many since we don't know . Lets say it cost for a lawyer just $1000.00 per suit which is on the low end . You do the math is this what we want. One suit was for false arrest on a staged plot to have himself killer. The County settled for $1,000,000.00 for this one . Is this what the Residents of Starke Co In want . I tired of hearing about a corrupt sheriff Joe and how good a job he does . Good old boy at its best.

Im very glad to hear that the inmates at the Starke Co. Jail arent getting what is being refered to as perks, but at the state prisons they are getting them and that is what folks are upset about. That is where they almost seem to be rewarded for having commited a crime. What kinda message is that sending to criminals? Its also good to hear that at least some of them work. Im interested in knowing if you can tell us how much does it cost to keep an inmate per day? Do the inmates that perform work get paid anything?

So you think Sheriff Joe is a good guy. He stages the crime sean of a attempt on his life has his officers arrest a person , holds this person in jail then after a federal investigation the fact show the sheriff guilty of false arrest false inprisionemt. Then the law suits by this person began and the county pays $1,000,000.00 out. Its also a proven fact (federal Suits) he targets minorities and hispanics. This lawsuits are now pending on a Federal level. What a good American Sheriff Joe is

Nobody was ever "found" guilty of anything, the suit was settled by the insurance company out of court. Get your facts straight, just because insurance companies find it cheaper to settle out of court doesn't mean anyone is guilty!

"What a good American Sheriff Joe is" Yes!! You said It first. That he is... We need a sheriff like him. If minorities and hispanics are committing the crimes they should be targeted.

Anonymous said...

The only fact present in the number of suits filed against Sheriff Joe, is the fact that anyone, can file suit against anyone, for any reason, anywhere. It proves nothing. Take for example the number of suits filed by inmates in county and state facilities, proves nothing more than they have too much time on their hands. Side note: The Sheriff's deputies arresting hispanics and minorities in Arizona would be a matter of demographics, not profiling, lol!

To the people that think the police have given up on the fight against drugs.....really? If that was the case you wouldn't be reading about these people getting arrested. The police are doing their job, they get these people to jail. It is not there job to keep them there. That would be the job of the prosecutor. Does anyone ever think about that? It's so easy to bash a police officer. Before you make silly comments about them not doing there job read the news and think again.

Anonymous said...

It sounds like the courts are working FOR the criminals. If they don't like having to work, not have cable tv, and various other things then don't break the law. If someone goes and robs a bank and goes to jail I don't feel sorry for them. Maybe if jail was harder then crime would go down. Why would anyone care about being locked up if they don't have to work, get free meals, and have recreational activities? I know someone (my wife's ex who owes $20,000 plus in child support) who has made a career out of going to jail. He just laughs when he is told he needs to serve time. Make these guys work and see how things change. Is work physical exercise anyway?

Anonymous said...

I for one will commend the police for doing a great job. Its the Prosecutor and Judges and the great Governor Daniels not doing there job. Governor Daniels has made it so that criminals with a D Felony wont be incarcerated by the state so no prison time for them instead they are treated to Home Detention and or Probation. Especially here in Starke Co where all our Prosecutors want to do is give them plea agreements and Judges that ok those pleas. The police do their job now if the others would do theirs we might get somewhere. Its time to stop with the Home Detention, Probation, Community Service, Classes, Time Cuts! Crime might just go down if criminals had something to fear.

Anonymous said...

For the guy who said that the war against drugs is over and drugs won. your absolutely right, because theres no deterant. I feel sorry for the police, they do there job and risk there own safety to try and make this a better place to live and for there efforts they are slapped in the face.since prison is like a vacation for criminals if they even serve any time since our courts seem to be big on suspending most of there sentences so round and round goes the revolving door for offenders.reminds me of the saying we'll leave the light on.

Rule of law is so far from the grasps of many here. Drug possesion crimes are victimless. Crimes of theft, fraud, violence, etc. Do have victimes. These are completely seperate. You enforce the laws that have a victim, hence a real crime. The time, money and space would then have 100% attention. You then Would not have real criminals running around 6 days loose from home detention. You read it class b felon thief, not in jail.

Those who cry of plea bargains, soft prosecuters and judges, you get what you deserve for not carrying on our liberties. All of you cry for a democracy here and it has been served, for a democracy only creates dictatorship. That is why our founding fathers warned us of the worst form of government, a democracy. That is why our country is a republic. A 3 vote system=republic, where us citizens have complete checks and balances. A democracy only allows our vote at the polls. The other two votes that make republic so great is serving on a grand jury(which checks the prosecuter) and the other vote by serving on a trial jury(which checks the judge). You do this with your jury handbook/constitution in hand and live liberty!

Then the drug tests come and the round and round of our money and elected officials time. Do you think the government should arrest obese people for eating fast food. The exact same theory applies. Be carefull what you wish for.

united states has the highest incarceration rate in the world. "Home of the free"? Tougher sentencing for drug offenses? All drug laws are jim crow laws. You been watching reefer madness or something? You want to scrap programs like hd and cc, well how about this: adopt a criminal, you go to court and sponsor a "druggie", when the judge hands the sentence out you then reply "hold on, 2 more years your honor", and then you proceed to write a personal check for the $30,000 some a year it costs to house such individual who you have a problem with his personal behavior.

That six day loose criminal from home detention decided to escape after being drug tested and knowing that it was going to come back positive for meth. why was an offender with a class B felony even on home detention? lisa owens was also placed on home detention ( in another county)after serving very little time for the murder she commited who is deciding that it is ok for these type criminals to be on such programs. corrections recovery team haha. they only caught him because his girlfriend turned him in or he may have not been found for years.

Anonymous said...

well ladies and gents all of this is far from over. lets see there was the scandel with the treasurers office (that i believe is still unresolved) and the drug free board thing and the sheriffs dept being sued or whatever and what sounds like a mess with home detention and people escaping perhaps the next scandel is just starting so grab your front row seat and stay tuned!

Anonymous said...

i will Not write a check to house these druggies as i already pay for them and provide them with perks its called taxes, that support the prison system and the reason we pay taxes for that is so that these druggies will be locked up and off the streets. we deserve no less and should expect that.

Anonymous said...

I had a thought regarding who will pay for the "druggies" to pay for their stay: have them work while they are locked up to pay for it. Why should they lay around and have extra perks without being required to do some sort of labor to help cover the costs? I still fail to see why the drug problem is so bad. I don't do drugs A) because I don't want to get arrested B) I know what it will do to me and C) after hearing what is in meth why would I want to. The ingredients in meth are not things I would want in my body seperately, so why mix them and put them in your body? I understand an addict has problems getting off drugs. But with the information available why would someone decide to start?

In Indiana, there is a LAW that states that an inmate is credited one day for each day he or she is sentenced. HOWEVER, is said inmate works, or in in an educational program, they are credited two days for each day served. But the state does not hold to this mandate. EACH offender is given this credit automatically. How do we change this ??? We must contact your respective representitive and state our concerns AND have that representitive take that concern to the House. There are policies in place that would make inmates think twice about returning to jail/prison. But out state government refuses to follow the very laws/policies they have written. As always, they talk a good game to get elected, then do not follow through. It is up to US to constantly remind them why they were elected.

Anonymous said...

I have contacted my represenatives a few years ago and still do about ending prohibition and reduce sentencing and they happily called me back later about reduced sentencing bills that passed for non violent, non victim crimes!!!

Point to Ponder said...

I can tell you why our so-called representives wont enforce the stronger laws they have passed: some, if not most of them, know that someday, they WILL have to face these same laws because of any criminal actions they do. Who really wants to enforce laws and make the courts establish precidence so that one day they may have to face the same stiffer penalities of any criminal actions that may occour as the rest of us?
Wake up people, half of the laws that have been passed in the last 50 years is to garner your vote, the sheep, who flock to these morons who are just out to make a quick buck playing to the special interests and off your hard work as the tax payer. If all the established laws were enforced, we might as well be a police state, run by the few, controled by the evil National Police Force (because the local governments cannot afford the extra manpower to follow all these laws), and virtual slaves with no rights what so ever.

WHAT IS A PRECINCT????
Starke County is divided into 9 townships (California, Center, Davis, Jackson, North Bend, Oregon, Railroad, Washington and
Wayne). The number of registered voters in each of the townships is divided so that no more than 1200 voters are grouped together by their residence to be placed in a precinct.
Four of these townships (Davis, Jackson, North Bend and Railroad) have fewer than 1200 registered voters and they only have one precinct. Two townships (California and Washington) have two precincts. One township (Oregon) has three precincts. Wayne township has four precincts and Center township has six precincts.
It is important that every voter knows the township and the precinct where they reside and are registered to vote and where your precinct will vote on election day. If you do not know any of this information, you may call the voter registration office at 772-9160 for this inforamtion.

The federal reserve system is the whole problem. Go read ron paul's "end the fed" for good starters. Watch movies such as "jeckyll island" or "monopoly men". The inflation of the dollar lessens our buying power. The fed prints fiat money out of thinair and charges the u.s. treasury an interest rate. The more money printed, the less it is worth and the less we can buy with it. Go do some exchange rates.

All of you people talk about how bad the drug situation is in Starke County, this is very true! The real people who suffer are the brothers, sisters, moms, dads, and children of the drug user! This is an aweful disease! Throwing the user in jail will clean them up for now, but what they need is some sort of rehabilitation! Most drug users DO want to get clean, they just need the help to do so. For the person talking about sharia, I think you better pick up their koran and see what muslims think about all people who arent followers of their faith. We are considered infidels and should be put to death! Pray to the one true God that we can beat these problems, and get help for those who truly need it.

Obama’s disregard of the Constitution is unacceptable and seems the longer he is in office the less regard he has for it. He has ignored his oath to faithfully uphold and execute the Constitution so many times it is no longer news.

Secretary of Defense Panetta’s declaration before the Senate Armed Services Committee this week stated that he and President Obama look not to the Congress for authorization to bomb Syria but to NATO and the United Nations.

Obama violated the Constitution with his “recess appointments” while the Senate was not in recess. It is up the Senate to decide when it is in recess, not the president. That distinction between executive and legislative authority is what the Separation of Powers doctrine is all about.

Obama is an obvious participant and co-conspirator in Eric Holder’s approval and later cover-up of the illegal “Fast and Furious” gun-walking program. Unlike the Watergate case, people have actually died as a result of this illegal program.

Obama undoubtedly has knowledge of and has approved Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano’s project to require Border Patrol management to falsify apprehension numbers on the southwest border. This is a clear violation of Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution, which requires the federal government to protect the country against foreign invasion.

The president’s open refusal to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act is a violation of Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution, which does not authorize the president to choose which laws to “faithfully execute.” The oath taken by a new president on Inauguration Day does not say, “… to defend the Constitution of the United States… to the best of my ability except when I disagree with it.”

Did the president violate the law when he instructed Labor Secretary Solis to negotiate agreements with foreign governments to expand the “labor rights” of illegal aliens?

I have only two questions. Does anyone else see this ongoing trend of complete Constitutional disregard and why haven’t impeachment proceedings begun?

To: Take your own advice and pick up the koran and read it, I know for a fact you haven't.

The Facts are. A pattern of violence and aggressive disregard for human suffering that is persistent in Muslim history and contemporary attitude toward non-believers reflects the message of the Quran, which is one of personal superiority and arrogance.

The Quran Dehumanizes Non-Muslims and Says that They are Vile Animals.

There are over 400 verses that describe the torment that has been prepared for people of other religions (or no religion).

Allah Himself Prevents Non-Muslims from Understanding and according to the Quran Actually Causes Non-Muslims to Sin.

The Quran also Says that Other Religions are Cursed by Allah and that People of Other Religions are to be Violently Punished and Killed in this world.

To the March 12, 2012 3:52 AM posting :

Have a nice trip out of the county. The thing to remember is this... The inner workings of the local offices are so well known because it is a relativly a small community. So when adverse actions take place it is shot through the local media rather quickly. However, in a larger county, there are MANY other problems that are reported to the media and the corruption in their local offices goes unreported. So, we will gladly deal with our little issues that are blown out of preportion, and you can deal with all the higher crime rates, higher taxes, higher cost of living, higher rent, fuel prices, and so on and so on...
And by the way..... When I tell people that I am from Starke County, I say it with pride and a smile on my face. Because anyone that bashes it, does not truely know the great people that CHOOSE to call it home.

Aaron said...

Believe as you will but according to scholars of the topic The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is an anti-Semitic hoax purported to have been plagiarized from Joly's fictional “Dialogue in Hell” describing a Jewish plan for global domination. It was first published in Russia in 1903, translated into multiple languages, and disseminated internationally in the early part of the 20th century and should be read as fiction. Henry Ford funded printing of 500,000 copies that were distributed throughout the United States in the 1920s.

Adolf Hitler and the Nazis were major proponents of the text. It was studied, as if a factual document in German classrooms after the Nazi Party came to power in 1933, despite having been exposed as fraudulent years before. In the opinion of historian Norman Cohn, the Protocols was Hitler's primary justification for initiating the Holocaust—his "warrant for genocide".

The text has been linked with Holocaust deniers.

For the people who think Mitch has done such a fine job and any others who want to know the truth check out the news story from this Indianapolis news station at this link www.wthr.com titled where are the jobs. this is a fact based story that our local news stations wont run. All the companys supposedly opening plants in Indiana arent really doing that as is proven/shown in this news broadcast which means the jobs Mitch has claimed to create was nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Why is it that in order to actually get the truth you have to search for this news story on the net our local channels should be telling this story. How long is it now that weve heard Sysco was going to open a facility in hamlet and yet theres nothing there except that water tower that was put in for them. I have no doubt that Mitch has lined his pockets quite well with kickbacks from the company he leased the toll road to or the other companies he gave contracts to when he privatized things like food service at state facilities, and child services, and the welfare offices and Im sure the list goes on but who could keep track of all them. Lets not forget his shady deal with IBM and why did he give hundreds of jobs to texas which is where they make those unemployment debit cards and the service center is located. Could Indiana residents not have benefited from those jobs but then what would have been in it for Mitch himself. One final thought in the future if you ever want a story investigated and/ or attention given to an issue I suggest contacting this Indianapolis news station as the local and by local I mean South Bend thus far they are the only one telling the truth and not just singing praise to Mitch, if half of the people really knew what he was/has been upto theyd stop praising him as he doesnt deserve it and never did. Hes the worst Governor ever selling Indiana and its residents out. So how did RTW help us? More jobs have left even since this passed and promised ones arent coming, where does that leave us?

I Study the bible.
You are right, "Wandering who" and jekyll island are excellent books. The jekyll island story, which has been heavily advertised on tv, is crucial to understand. The federal system is the number one problem to our country. The federal reserve act was passed by only 4 people at 11:19 p.m. christmas eve 1913. Our constitution grants congress the right to coin our money. Instead, the "reserve" charges our u.s. treasury an interest rate. The federal reserve is a private central bank. The fifth plank of the communist manifesto is central bank.

The discussion, Jew v Muslim v Christian is a loaded topic. To the Jew all non-Jew are Goyim and Goyim were born only to serve them, like cattle, do with them as you will, make them beasts of burden etc. To the Muslim all non Muslim are Infidels, those wretched souls that must be either converted or killed. One caveat though, if permitted the Infidel can pay Dhimmitude and become the Muslim society’s proletariat or equivalent to the Jewish Goyim.

Knowing that, I am uncertain which of the two books is the least evil, the Torah or the Koran. In the long run Christians may have a problem.

Further exacerbating that dilemma is what I recently watched. A video of David Lancer (Obama’s Chief Strategist) talking about “The Long Game”. His view is that ultimately freedom and Western Culture as we know it is on its way to extinction and the United States will be divided up among foreign nations who will run their countries like Corporations.

Maybe the acid that Orwell and Huxley took did give them a view into the future.

You can stay in denial all you like but the facts say that these jobs arent here like was boasted about by Mitch. As for other states around us yes Illinois and Michigan are not doing well but Wisc. is doing ok and several others sre doing as well or better than Indiana. Mitch didnt save Indiana it was doing ok before he took office.Truly like how you disreguard facts you dont like or want to be confronted with as kool-aid, how childish. Its a scary thought knowing people like you can vote, dont think itll do you alot of good this election tho as enough people have seen the truth and want change not more Mitch=Mike Pence. Indiana does have monsy but it not time to release it yet. Just befor the election you will see money going to counties that voted Dem and have been split up by the redistricting. Starke Co is now split 3 ways . The republicans will buy there way from Indianoplis into Starke co. Remember we are always reminded we in Starke Co are the 2nd poorest in the state . Money will come for votes.

Your statement was incomplete as posted. Your meant to say it is scary to a liberal that a conservative can vote. It is a scary thought than others can block libs from forcing their ideals onto them. There are those who block this thinking as they know that socialism is not for the socialist, just the poor slob that has to pay for it off his back! Side note: Yes, Wisconsin is doing better, and to remind you, it is a Right to Work state, and we all know what the libs are trying to do to the Republican governor. Thank you for making my points. Starke County is noted as being a Democrat county in a largely republican State and as pointed out in a previous post second poorest of the 92. Why second poorest? Good question.

It may be attributable to the large influx of Democrat outsiders. I wouldn’t want to equate Starke County’s poor economic standing with a particular party though an inquiring mind might arrive at that conclusion.

As the same post postulates the controlling Republicans will use State money to take over Starke County come election time. Perhaps the Republicans want to improve the County’s economic standing. An influx of funds certainly wouldn’t hurt and that just might be worth trying as bad as associating with Republicans would be.

I find negetives with both parties.

The Dem have huge entitlement programs, especially for people unwilling, but able to work, & raising taxes to give more handouts. I also disagree with their abortion stance, & definately disagree with their stance on allowing gay marriage.

The Rep have allowed NAFTA to take our jobs overseas, & I believe they see war as an opportunity to make $$$. Bush is responsible for Housing Meltdown by deregualting banks, as he did with the SNL Loan Scandal in Texas, which he was going to be indicted for before 9/11.

Fact is, both parties are terribly flawed, & only see their own $$$ making agenda & control as top priority, NOT THE PEOPLE. I feel like both parties are having their strings pulled by the same puppetmaster. But the "powers that be" will not allow a 3rd party, a Common Sense American Party, to thrive. BUT...at this point, we can NO LONGER ALLOW THIS PRES TO DIG US INTO DEEPER DEBT & CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION AS HE PLANS, AMONG SO MANY OTHER DEVIOUS PLANS HE HAS.

There was something said about a property tax increase that could effect all of us in Starke Co. not just those in that school district. I dont want my taxes going up to support a school that should close and the students divided between Knox and John Glenns schools. Theres been no mention of the employees at that corporation taking any kinda pay cut in order to help it stay open. With such low enrollment numbers it seems the only reason for keeping that school open is to preserve those peoples pay checks. Vote no to the OD school tax.

Creech said...

In response to: “I find negatives with both parties.”

That is exactly why I cannot in good conscience belong to either.

Excellent observation, how could any reasonably intelligent and informed individual arrive at any other conclusion? It would understandably take a huge leap of faith for members of either major party to step out of their comfort zone and embrace a new third party. Many people, both Dem and Rep, have attempted to do so by moving out of the box and getting involved with the Tea Party. And both the Denocrat and Republican parties have ridiculed that movement because they see the writing on the wall and don’t want to accept the fact their party’s ideologies are flawed by corruption and greed and they are also blinded by allegiance.

Samuel "Joe the Plumber"Wurzelbacher just won the Republican nomination in a bid for the Congressional seat in his district. His heart is with the Tea Party but he understands the odds and so aligned himself with the only major party that is anywhere close to accepting his views. The country desperately needs more of his caliber and so the Dem smear machine now has him in their sites and we will likely see the same as we saw with Palin.

Lastly, your comment about puppet masters is dead on. It does not take an exceptional amount of investigative prowess to follow the strings and identify where they lead. Not surprisingly, if one speaks or writes about the puppet masters, at times referred to as the men behind the curtain, you’ll be tagged a conspiracy theorist. But, take heart in the fact that few major events of the past have happened in the absence of conspiracies.

Let's recap an event from 2005. President Bush want to REGULATE the banks as fannie and freddie were giving out unsecured mortgages left and right. Rep frank and Sen dodd stopped any regulation from occurring and gave the green light to the heads of fannie and freddie, Raines and Jones, to collect millions in bonuses from cooked books. This was allowed as they donated a bunch to dodd, franks, and obama in that order! This unregulation caused by the democratic party caused the housing bubble which predictably burst. This whole mess occurred as the democrats resurrected the Community Reinvestment Act of the jimmie carter ilk, to pour billions into low income home ownership knowing the loans would never be paid back. Side note: NAFTA was a pet project of clinton!

To lets recap. March 15, 2012 1:42 PM
You don't know what you are talking about maybe you should get the facts before you post totally inaccurate information. Your statement is a fabrication. The facts are:
In 2005 we had a republican House, Republican Senate, and Republican President. Not Barney frank in charge actually Newt Gingrich was advising Fannie and Freddie.
From 2001-2007 the republicans were in charge of this country, Democrats in Congress were in the minority. Even if Barney Frank wanted to help out Fannie and Freddie, he wasn’t in a position to lead those efforts until 2007.
In 2005, when Frank helped sponsor a bipartisan House bill to create an independent regulator for Fannie and Freddie, it died in the Senate controlled by the Republicans.
The housing bubble was global. Countries such as Belgium, Ireland, Spain, the United Kingdom, Australian, Norway and Canada all had massive run-ups in housing prices from 2000 to 2007. It’s hard to explain how Congressional rules on inner-city housing caused all of this around the world.
If you focus solely on the United States not only were Fannie and Freddie late in getting into the subprime game, but they remained a small player in the whole affair. According to a Federal Reserve study, more than 84 percent of the subprime mortgages in 2006 were issued by private lenders.
Only one of the top 25 subprime lenders in 2006 was subject to affordable-housing laws. Private firms such as Countrywide Financial were issuing “nontraditional” mortgages in order to package them off to Wall Street and make money, not to please Barney Frank. Republicans were in charge and are responsible for our economic meltdown. You cant change that its in the history books now.
You can still make up fantasies and I am positive there are many who read this board that will believe your nonsense.

Anonymous said...

To lets recap denyer: I stand corrected, the hearings were held in 2004. By 2004, all of the elements of the current financial collapse had been in place for several years. The aggressive approach to enforcing the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) started under Bill Clinton in 1998, and the seemingly endless appetite for paper by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had turned massive amounts of bad loans into mortgage-backed securities to spread their cancer throughout the system. In 2004, a year after the Bush administration tried to tighten regulation and oversight on Fannie and Freddie, Congress was told yet again that disaster loomed. The Democratic response is instructive to seeing who really sat back and allowed this collapse to occur They wanted to keep the gravy train rolling on questionable mortgages in order to endear themselves to the working class, and didn’t mind smearing the OFHEO regulator as a racist in order to succeed. The Republicans who wanted more oversight didn’t demand it as socialists looking for a government takeover of the financial sector, either, but because they saw the impending disaster looming for Fannie Mae. When Barack Obama talks at debates about how the past eight years of regulatory laissez-faire created the problem, he may want to review the transcripts of these hearings and note that Democrats repeatedly undermined regulators and called them everything from incompetent to bigoted in their rush to keep the status quo at Fannie and Freddie. The only fantasy created here is the thought that the democrats were innocent in housing bubble that burst causing our financial plight. These were the years that the SEIU and ACORN bullied bankers at their residences, intimidating them and their families into continuing the loan processes that were never going to be paid back. The hearings of 2004 are public record, people can google them and read it for themselves, the facts can't be broken. The financial crisis was in effect, started and maintained by democrats hungry for votes and power, regardless of the damage inflicted on this country.

In response to “Vote no to the OD school tax. There was something said about a property tax increase that could effect all of us in Starke Co. not just those in that school district.”

The “something said” was:
“One crucial point Minix feels needs to be stressed is that if the referendum does not pass, the school will not close, but will instead merge with another local corporation. This possible merger would mean taxes would likely increase anyway, as when the school merges with another corporation, the community would assume the tax rate of that corporation.”

This means that if you ARE NOT in the Oregon/Davis school district & this tax increase passes YOU WILL NOT pay more taxes. IF...you live in the OD school district & the tax increase does not pass you will most likely end up paying more taxes anyway. BECAUSE....”when the school merges with another corporation, the community would assume the tax rate of that corporation”. If you live in the OD school district YOUR TAXES ARE GOING TO GO UP either way because OD is one of the lowest-taxing schools in the area. VOTE YES & KEEP THE OD SCHOOL. OD school is definitly better than Knox and John Glenn’s.

Well I just finished reading the news here on wkvi and lo and behold there were two more people arrested on meth charges. My guess is these two will probably be placed on home detention. This begs the question why do they keep putting these offenders on that and letting them go back to the comforts of their home when they clearly belong in jail if they continuously just put them on these programs what have they learned? This countys recidivism rate is horrible most of these offenders after having finished the home detention program have gone on to commit more crimes and be arrested again. Does anyone see that this isnt working as its not had an effect on these criminals or changed there behavior in any way! It seems to be a waste of tax dollars. Perhaps that grant money the program gets should instead be applied to the new jail fund and maybe our taxes wouldnt have to be raised so much. Im all for paying a little more in taxes to have criminals off our streets out of our neighborhoods, making this a safer place to live and raise our kids. We deserve to have our safety protected and our community secure. Enough is Enough already. As much as I love this county and living here Ive started to believe that I may need to move just to feel safe do to this very situation and the fact that I dont like this soft way of dealing with its offenders. As I understand it when they make this meth theres some very toxic chemicals involved and when they are done making it they dump these chemicals in the ground or down the drain potentially polluting the water and sometimes these labs blow up or start fires that can and have hurt innocent people so I dont see the answer to this problem being to place them on home detention, where they can continue to do these types of things. THERE SIMPLY HAS TO BE MORE DONE!

Anonymous said...

Note to the Complainer about home detention. You feel like you should move to be safe? I know lots of people who will help you. Want to move to South Bend? Murders. LaPorte? Heroine. Valparaiso? Cocaine. Plymouth? Meth. Lake County? Crack, Murder, etc. Chicago? Murders, Carjacking, Robberies. Which of these do you prefer? The fact is that people move to Starke County all the time just so they can feel safer than they did in those cities.

Anonymous said...

Home detention is a ruse. It generates lots of cash, the more participants they have (last count was 60+) the more they make (each participant must pay a weekly fee) and one might only speculate how the pie is divided. Bleeding hearts applaud Community Corrections because it makes them feel good about helping those poor misguided people without the unpleasantries associated with DOC, which btw is like college for criminals. The results of both speak for themselves.
The latest two to be arrested for meth are frequent visitors to the jail and it would take both hands and feet to count how many times they and their family members have been incarcerated there. Another way to put it is most law enforcement officers in the county have known them on a first name basis for years and If I am not mistaken one of them had a sibling already in there, a family reunion behind bars no less.
Any ideas how to effectively deal with a problem like this, real permanent solutions not patty cakes patty cakes?

Anonymous said...

Another Note to home detention Complainer. If nobody arrested the people you complain about there would be nothing to complain about. So lets applaud good law enforcement. So then the druggie is put in the jail which is overcrowded and should have been replaced at least 10 years ago, and has a federal lawsuit that may cost us all a lot of money. So, to fix that problem, some are put on home detention to lower the jail over-crowding but you dont like that option either. Without home detention there would be over 100 people in that jail. But I guess thats o.k. with you. And home detention doesnt make money, it just breaks even so that the defendants pay for the privilege instead of the taxpayers. But you dont like the fact that criminals have to pay their own way. Now, those that arent in the jail or on home detention are in prison. But you dont like that either because you say that it is a "college for criminals." So I guess if you get your way, that we either hang em on the courthouse lawn or put them on a barge down the Mississippi. Your nothing but a complainer. No ideas or solutions. Until you come up with a better idea, why dont you keep your complaints to yourself?

Anonymous said...

The woman arrested on meth charges was on home detention before for meth and drug charges and here she is arrested again for the same or similar crime. So what purpose does this program serve? Obviously none! I would agree with the person who said home detention is a ruse. They would like us to believe that this program is beneficial in rehabilitating offenders and helpful in keeping the community safe. The results arent proving this. It really must be just about the money they make from it without any concern for recidivism rate or the Countys well being. Its shameful! I wonder how much supporters of this program will like it when one of these offenders offers meth to a loved one of theirs or has their garage or home broken into. They need to stop with the patty cake sentences to probation and home detention, because they arent really paying their debt to society or learning much from this type of sentencing.

Anonymous said...

I think people should complain if they dont like what is goin on. At best its a temp. fix for the jail numbers. so its serving no other purpose and uses alot of tax dollars. and yes maybe if a few of them were actually hung on the courthouse square for the first time in a long time there would be a decline in the crime rate. and what happens when these offenders cant pay these fees they are returned to the jail anyways so like i said temp fix. no i dont have a solution to this but one needs to be found and home detention isnt it realize that and move on.

Anonymous said...

I am all for building a huge new jail!!! I don't care if my taxes go up, at least I will feel safe. I think home detention is ok in some instances, but not for druggies. They seem to be the people that can figure out a way to get out of the ankle things and even if they don't they can continue to make meth right there at home!!!!

Points to Ponder said...

For the anonymous person who said, " Want to move to South Bend? Murders. LaPorte? Heroine. Valparaiso? Cocaine. Plymouth? Meth. Lake County? Crack, Murder, etc. Chicago? Murders, Carjacking, Robberies. Which of these do you prefer?" First of all, I prefer people to stop moving there problems into my neighborhood. Porter County, a.k.a. Valparaiso, for many years only had a so-called "minor" problem with pot and alcohol. Then around 1990, the real estate agents in that area started to advertise to Chicago newspapers, saying to "Come to Porter County, Indiana: Chicago's hidden suburb. Then, though issues did start to arise with Cocaine, it was soon superseded by, what else, METH!!!! In 2004, then Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso was THIRD HIGHEST IN THE NATION FOR ADMITTANCE FOR METH OVERDOSES!!! Guess what Einstein? The meth was traced to Stark County, where, according to you people to move to to get away from crime.
Now you asked for a solution and went so far as to say hanging on the courthouse lawn or putting them on a barge down the Mississippi. Well, here you go, another solution besides the one that was posted earlier. I say "YES! Send them on a barge, down the Walbash river, to the Ohio river, then to the Mississippi. Then, when they hit the Gulf of Mexico, let it get about 2 miles off shore and BLOW THE THING UP!!! Now if you have a better suggestion I am all ears and up to hear it.
I do agree that Community Corrections could be a great program if it is managed correctly and done properly. But do you and anyone else reading this realize that some people on the program are multiple time convicted felons? That, some have been convicted for rapes and batteries but got their sentences reduced so they could be on this program and not in Jail. Granted it is totally ridiculously over crowed for sure, but bottom line is simple: people who are 2 or 3 time CONVICTED FELONS SHOULD NOT BE ON HOME DETENTION!!! They have had their chance at rehabilitation and blew it big time. Don't mix them with us in the really-real world. I can only see bad things happening, up to and including those aforementioned felons committing a crime and making good citizens have to make snap and drastic decisions that would not normally need to be made. Jails and prisons are for Felons, not Community Corrections/ Home Detention.
And with that being said, why would Judges and prosecutors put them on Home Detention?

Al Sterling said...

This may appear to be radical but we are in radical times and soft solutions have proven to be ineffective. I hope the moderator will take that into consideration and let this post. These views are mine and mine alone.
For repeat offenders that like being incarcerated and being taken care of by our tax dollars, the solution is simple, three strikes you’re out. Hang’em, firing squad, like Utah and Oklahoma, or Old Sparky. After a few executions in this fashion and those executions should be shown over and over on TV like they showed Rodney King’s altercation, their attention and habits would be modified. And if they weren’t they could meet their maker and we’d be rid of that menace to society.
Any opposition to this proposal? I am certain there will be from the lily livered liberals. And no I do not think tax payers should be burdened to provide comfortable housing for those incarcerated. Do the math, X-Million divided by 100 (keeping it simple math) that comes out to more than most expensive homes cost per inmate and that doesn’t include the upkeep that would consist of food and medical expenses.
If federal or state guidelines dictate having bed and breakfast accommodations for law breakers then those guidelines need to be changed.

Anonymous said...

To Al Sterling
I agree and like your take on how to handle this matter I also think that if dealt with as you suggest it would have a tremendous effect on these druggies and a real decrease in crime would result and probably save a few of their lives. I to am tired of the lily livered liberals that believe theres a program, class, pill to fix these people, yet they fail to show any real numbers indicating that these things work or have shown success but they cry real loudly about people like us being to harsh so all they truly do is add to the problem and continue to suck up tax money for these types of things. Thank you Im glad you posted your comment now I know that others do share the same thoughts.

Corrections alternatives are social experiments at best, and like some experiments....fail! Good idea but you need a responsible mindset in the individual you sentence to this. Habitual drug users and sellers, rapists and wife beaters, bar fighters and police assaulters, all need not apply. Incarceration is the only answer to this. Bleeding hearts aside, those elected to certain positions were done so to provide answers to certain problems. To those I would say: your personal feelings are not what you were elected to share, do your job! Home detention is a joke enjoyed by those sentenced to it, end it! The cost is not an object here, the safety of community and families are the prime consideration, forget experimentation, use what works!!!

Pacifists and liberals wring their hands and whine saying oh why can’t we all just get along and just because someone made a few bad decisions they are still people. They only need one more chance and they’ll be wonderful people.
Bull, that is exactly why they are the way they are the politicians, mostly liberal, enable and coddle these criminals and have passed laws where they are almost a protected class.
If you and I can live our lives without being arrested, incarcerated and found guilty in a court of law what is their excuse? First of all they face no measure of punishment, locked up with 3 meals a day, warm in the winter, cool in the summer and classes on how to be a career criminal and it’s all free. They always have all kinds of excuses why they are incarcerated mostly along the lines of I’m not guilty or it was someone else’s fault. Looks like I am not the only one with this opinion. I have called and written our state and federal congress people and all I get from them is form letters telling me all the wonderful things they are legislating but nothing about addressing the huge problem of criminal activity.

And by that, meaning it getting into our schools with younger and younger kids!! We ALL need to pray to GOD to help us stop this horrible disease!!!!!! To the mother that posted in favor...
Allow me to clarify if you might have taken my comments too negatively: I am talking about those who offend repeatedly over and over again. Believe it or not, I am very happy your son got the help that was needed and is doing better. I truly hope he is the the few and proud ones that do not re-offend. My comments are for those who repeat constantly, with out regards to the help that is offered. That is where my barge comment comes into play.
I am very happy your family got the help that was needed, because at the heart of this, it does take help from within ones self as well as from support from the persons' friends and family. Thank you for being there for him. It is proven fact that with positive support from without, a person has a significant chance of not re-offending again.
Just to let you and others know, I wasn't an angel as a youth and it took a combined act of God, family, and church family to get me to come around. You could say I have been apart of the system, so for those who are given a second, third, fourth and many more chances and blow it for those who REALLY WANT THE HELP, or the so-called "higher class of criminals," I stand by my barge comments.
At the risk of giving some persons an excuse and use this as a "disease" there are people who suffer from Rectal-Cranial Inversion, and frankly the only way to cure it permanently is a crow bar to pop the head out and a boot to put up the arse to keep the it out. Come to think of it, that might be a better method to prevent repeat offenders. Hum?

Please folks, if you wish to quote the constitution, do so accurately. I get tired of those who twist and add to that document to serve their own purpose.

re: OD news about .11cent increase = $30 per yr. on a 75,000 home.

this is the problem with people quoting figures. $75,000 x 11cents per hundred is $82.50. a referendum is needed because your rate will go over the 1% cap. i am for keeping OD local, go to the meeting, take your tax statement with you and a calculator, and do you own math. if OD had one of the "lowest rates" no referendum would be needed, unless fishers, granger, carmel are considered local. i would like to see what the admisitratiion cost per student is, the teachers have not had a pay raise in 5 yrs, so is the tax increases going to pay raises. will older teachers be let go to be replaced with older teachers? why is there up to 60 kids in one class room? is there any long term planning? is this tax increase to cover just one years balance sheet? take written questions with you to the meeting, and ask them.
