Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it.

In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

OD People have not stopped to think that if their children get transferred to Glenn or Knox, then the tax rate will be increased to pay for those students int he school system. The people from Grovertown or Knox will not be paying for your children's education.

You will most likely be paying tuition to those schools since they live out of district. And for most schools that is 2000.00 or more per year.

Think about that before sending your children here.

Also think about how the class size will grow from 30 to maybe 50 with your kids here. How much individual instruction can a group of 50 get in one class period, not much.

Anonymous said...

there is no room in knox for the od kids, so vote yes to save OD or your kids may be bussed to gary where where there is room. this is the type of stuff i hear, i hear everything but the truth. od was told yrs ago to merge with other school, this would cut costs greatly, students would still go to od buildings, starke county schools dont need 3 superintendents, 1 payrole dept not 3, 1 larger group insurance not 3, the od super wont move to the area and has been looking for new job for last few yrs.

Anonymous said...

the april 30th post 8:39am, the facts are made up. you pay $0 tuition to an out of district school, thats the law, you must furnish your own transportation is all. od has a senior class count of in the 40's, so wont add 20 students per class in dozens of classes, just not that many students, so your figures dont add up. your glove dont fit.

vote yes or no, it really dont matter, od school will not close, if indiana takes it over they will put a firm in charge of it from florida to manage it like a business, cut cut cut. untill it is made part of a larger group.

Anonymous said...

First things first to April 30 8:39am. No matter what the outcome of the vote is the tax rate is going up in the OD district. If the referendum passes then it will go up to whatever the final number is, I can't quote it because I haven't heard a single person confirm what it will be, it depends on who you talk to. If not approved the tax rate will be whatever the school that OD consolidates with current tax rate is, the people of the OD district will not get out of paying taxes they just do not know what the rate will be. If the schools do not want to consolidate then it is conceivable that the state will take OD over. You need to educate yourself on tuition, the law changed and there is no tuition for public schools, if they have the room and your child is accepted then they are accepted, you do not have to pay 2000.00. I have sent my children to a school other than OD and am quite happy with the move. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the way public education is going class sizes of 50-60 are not inconceivable, they may happen sooner than you think even in your school; without consolidating with another school.

Anonymous said...

if od has to merge with knox what would the new name be?

Anonymous said...

Knox Community School Corporation would be the name.

Anonymous said...

KNOOD

Anonymous said...

OD seems to average about 50 to 60 students per grade (based on graduating classes in the recent past) so if you split those kids between Knox and John Glenn, that adds about 25 to 30 students per grade to each school. That is not a significant increase and I honestly don't understand how we justify a separate school board, administration, etc. for that number of students.

Anonymous said...

vote yes to save OD. the starke county economic fund needs to see OD school as a valuable employer, they hire 50 of the highest paid people in starke county plus the others that are paid average. the people spend money and create other jobs, if we loose OD starke will not be able to fund a new jail. if our state government had not ran off to Illinois to hide from work, and worked on a fair school formula, this OD problem would not have happened.

Anonymous said...

The OD/Knox Merge should be called the mighty "SANDBURS"

Anonymous said...

Myself I would rather pay more in taxes if the kids would have more classes to choose from. Class size hump. If any of you remember Mr Steele (Grovertown) she could take care of 60 students in a 4th grade class, help the ones that needed extra help and keep us all loving her. She was a great wonderful teacher and in high school where kids are suppose to be mature should be no problem.

Anonymous said...

Does everyone in Starke Co. vote on this or just the people in the OD school district?

Anonymous said...

25 to 30 students per grade level IS a significant increase. In the elementary that would mean another teacher per grade, as well as a classroom to put them in. At the middle and high school, it would also mean more teachers would be needed unless you want 40 kids in a math or English class. I personally wouldn't want my children in classes that large.

Anonymous said...

There is always the possibility that the elementary school at OD would remain open and those kids would be consolidated when they reach middle school. Nobody has really said what the plan would be if this tax increase does not pass.

If they have 50 of the highest paid employees in the county, I think they are seriously overpaid. Are they making more than the doctors and lawyers?

In Fiscal Year 1998 OD athletic coaches were paid a total of $ 31,651.00, in FY 2006 that total was increased to $84,962.00. The ten year increase for coaches as of 2008 was 162%. When compared to the Student academic achievement, in FY 1998 $3,435,016 was spent, reaching a maximum of $4,328,106 in FY 2007. The ten year increase for Student academic achievement was a total of 11%. While you cannot justify raising SAA by 162%, you question the motives of the sports commitment in comparison to that of academic achievement.

“School Corporation Expenditures by HB 1006 Expenditure Categories Biannual Financial Report Data.” Www.in.gov. IN.Gov, 10 Feb. 2009. Web. 09 Apr. 2012. .

HAVE YOUR WAGES INCREASED 162%?
Indiana Minimum Wage @$7.25 = $18.995 or $19.00
• @10.00 = $26.20
• @15.00 = $39.30
• @18.00 = $ 47.16

Anonymous said...

Has anyone heard if Sysco will come this year or is he still with the Lone Ranger?

Anonymous said...

I guess no one knows if everyone in Starke Co. votes on this or just the people in the OD school district?

Anonymous said...

I don't think the whole county will get to vote on the OD school situation. I think each school district is what you would have to vote on taxes. That is Knox would vote for an increase for Knox, and North Judson would vote on an increase for their school.

Anonymous said...

Only those in the OD school district vote.

Anonymous said...

Just the people who live in the OD district will vote on the school referendum.

Anonymous said...

If OD consolidates with another school system(s) it would no longer be considered OUT OF DISTRICT it would be the NEW district so the tuition and transportation arguments are invalid.

What is of real concern is what is the plan for the potential receiving school to accomodate more students? Desks, tables, chairs, books, lockers, class size, transportation, food, records storage?

Knox class sizes are already horrible. It is not to the benefit of the OD students or nor the Knox students to consider a consolidation.

Anonymous said...

IN DOE only takes over schools for failure to meet the required AYP. OD schools have good performance stats. They are not in danger of a DOE takeover. They are in danger of not having an operational budget due to the cuts by Mitch Daniels and Tony Bennett.

I say OD stays as is and we see what happens to education in Indiana once Mitch and his boyband are out of office. The new Superintendent of schools will have one heck of a job to undue all the damange done by Daniels-Bennett but it can and will be fixed eventually. If OD stays the course their funding could well be restored without consolidation. Increased taxes for a couple of years while Indiana government gets it's head back on straight is a small inconvenience when compared to the impact on our student's education under a merger plan.

Anonymous said...

Adding 25 students to a grade that only has three classroom in an additional 8-9 students per classroom. THAT IS A BIG change. It is a HUGE challenge when you consider what the class sizes currently are (too big).

Anonymous said...

If OD has 50 of the highest paid jobs in Starke County, why don't those people take a pay cut and let OD remain as is. Budget cuts should go there first before cutting any education funds!!!

Anonymous said...

another long time down town business is closed. 100% increase in taxes, you think that helps, plus personal property tax, by name alone shows that tax is wrong. plus inviro fees for no service, your forced to pay for a service, they say its not a tax, its a forced service fee. (supreme court is judging some thing simular now)

state law makers are already saying the school formulas will be redone, the state has a cash surplus so once mitch is pitched, they will spend like there is no tomorrow, school with have cash overflowing out the windows, so double digit raises, bonus pay, build build build, new hiring of friends and family. happy days are here. then the well goes dry, local tax boards with have to end the 1% tax cap so they can raise school taxes 25% or more just to maintain the schools renewed spending habit.

OD figures, you hear official reports one day on radio with one set of figures, next day another set of official figures, then go to a meeting and hear different figures. then on the blog wow, people just make stuff up.

so when you go vote on tuesday, i am 100% sure election was not changed to wednesday, vote how you want to vote. and only od people can vote on the od tax matter.

I really doubt that the coaches pay has gone up 162% in the last 10-15 years. One needs to look at the change in the number of programs over that time. I know since 1998 they have added a girls golf team, in some years they have had a SB team (I think). I am sure there are others as well that have been added--not sure when soccer began at the school.

A huge part of the increase could have been for new positions and more opportunities for the kids.

Of course the question is what have the numbers done the last 2-3 years. How much have they been cut? I know a lot of schools have made huge cuts here and I am sure OD is doing that as well.

It is a school that has great community support, but we will see soon enough if people are willing to pay for that support. I think they are, but it will be interesting on Tuesday to see what happens.

I actually would have prefered them proposing a slightly bigger increase if they would have taken the extra over the 400,000 requested and put that aside in case the state goes in and cuts funding even more

Anonymous said...

OD already made cuts so...I don't care what the 2008 figures are... WHAT ARE THE 2011-12 amounts?

Jayme Goetz said...

You can't totally compare from 10 years ago. At the public meeting the athletic amount were coaches and the class sponsors, yearbook sponsor, national honors sponsor, etc...

Was all that figured in 10 yrs ago like it is today. Why not compare the coaches salaries?

Are we comparing apples to apples?

In 2009 the 6th grade girls basketball coach made $650 (found this figure online). When I coached 6th grade over 10 years ago I am pretty sure I made $600 Because I kept $300 and I gave $300 to a friend that helped me. To me that is not an increase at all if you consider gas prices.

If you got rid of all the athletics and all the extracurricular stuff like FFA and National Honors Society you still are not going to have enough money to keep the doors open. This was all gone over at the first public meeting.

Anonymous said...

teachers at od made more 5 yrs ago than today, pure fact. wages have not went up but insurance out check has increased. the vote tuesday is up in the air, most i talk to say they are voting no, but when they get in the booth i think they will vote yes not to loose local control, then say outside they voted no. just like starke county voting for obama, i cant find one person today that will say they voted for him.

I agree 100% on the Environmental Fee's, which are down to $20 a year, but were higher before, & when we forgot to pay 1 year, they sent us a Small Claims Notice & we had to pay $200. This service is not used by anyone I know. It consist of some recycling bins, & a tire/paint, etc. Drop Off once a year. We DO NOT NEED TO FUND A GOV'T OFFICE FULL TIME FOR THIS SERVICE. Totally unneccesary. More "taxation" w/o Representation..but this isn't even a tax...YOU ARE FORCED TO PAY FOR IT. Still sickens me.

Knox lost a great business downtown. The New Millennium Fitness Club has closed. I sincerely miss it. I hope that someone buys the facility soon.

Anonymous said...

OD has never had a softball team, talked about it but decided if the girls wanted to play ball they could play baseball. As for the coaches pay if you look at the bi-annual report put out by the state it has increased 151% for the ten year rate looking at the 2008-2009 bi-annual expenditures which go from 1999 to 2009. Looking at the 2010-1011 bi-annual expenditure report it says from 2001-2011 it was a 35% ten year increase. If you look at the reports there are some things that need looked at and possibly cut. Do we cut all athletics? No, they are important for well rounded kids. Are there areas that cuts can be made, I think so. If you look at the 2010-2011 bi-annual report food service preparation and dispensing jumped up 13% which equaled about $18,000. Why? Grounds maintenance in the same report jumped 255% for a one year increase of almost $10,000. There are areas for improvement but you need a board who is willing to make the tough decisions. Are they willing to do it? I don't know.

O-D is in financial trouble due almost entirely to 1 man: Mitch Daniels. He wanted to close all schools with an enrollment less than 1,000. When he didn't get his way, he choked the small schools financially. It isn't just O-D affected - it's all small schools state-wide. I believe that all we have to do is wait him out and hopefully the people of this state will elect a true Hoosier - one that believes in small schools and rural areas. Having said that, there is no justifiable reason for such a small county to have 3 separate boards, superintendents, and administrative departments. That is a complete waste of money. Consolidate the administrative EVERYTHING, but keep the 3 schools. Porter County is a good example of 1 board, 1 superintendent, and many schools, both large & small. This would save so much money just in superintendent's salaries!

Did anybody notice that Indiana Food Bank came to Starke County using its mobile unit to give away boxes of food? It was announced after the fact in the Review,it makes a body wonder why some families got a box per family member while others in need were never told. It was suppose to be one per family, maybe next time the right people will be given food not those who were notified ahead of that day.

Anonymous said...

If you look closely at the athletic coaches salary it is documented and referenced. Follow the link supplied. It is all factual.

Anonymous said...

It is certainly not Mitch Daniels fault that the OD school budget is what it is. The state may have made cuts but OD is the one that sets their budget and decides where to spend. I wish I never had to make cuts in my regular budget so that I can pay unexpected expenses such as medical bills, etc. Wouldn't that be nice? If my income drops, my spending has to drop too.

I am under the assumption that Jayme generously volunteered her services and was given a financial gratuity for her efforts. While $600.00 may seem trivial, it is a gratuity not entitlement. If she had donated $300.00 back to the school, or refused the gratuity rather than redistribute to a “friend”, I could view this as admirable community service. How many “volunteers” exist at OD?

I love people with bad facts. In Porter County you have

Duneland School Corp--Chesterton
East Porter Schools--Kouts, Morgan and WT
Valpo School Corp--Valpo
Union Twp Schools--Wheeler
Portage Twp Schools--Portage
Porter Twp Schools--Boone Grove
Boone Twp--Hebron

The only Corp in Porter County with more than 1 high school is East Porter Schools, and there is always some talk of consolidation with those 3

Anonymous said...

I think the point Jayme was making is that the individual coaching pay has not gone up as much as was reported earlier.

I am sure at OD like many places there are great volunteers that are taken care of out of other coaches pockets just to reward them for their hard work and effort.

How is it, that we pay 7% sales tax on EVERYTHING but food, high property taxes(which how do they "benefit", or improve or help my property or me(other than over-assessing)?), Medicaid/care & Soc.Sec. taxes, outrageous license plate fee's(for those who work hard to drive a decent vehicle), & just a ton more taxes, but yet, we can not afford to keep a small, established school system open, or have a license branch open 5 days a week. GOV'T IS TOO BIG! When is enough...ENOUGH???? I think it's time for The People to AUDIT our Gov't & see where all the $$$ is going.

I find it interesting that people throw percentages and figures around like candy at a parade. You use these figures in order to justify and/or repute a possible increase in taxes or other financial burdens laid on the backs of still lucky enough to have a job these days. You complain that there is too much government in our every day life dictating our future. Well, where do you think all those fugures originate from ?? You are putting your faith/belief into numbers that are fed to us by local/state GOVERNMENT offices. You will be putting your faith in places that have recently made the headlines for suddenly "finding" millions of dollars in state budget. You will be putting your trust into LOCAL offices that have recently had issues with the "mishandleing" of funds".
Seriously, you know how most people in the area can tell there is already way too much taxes ????
They count their money on payday. You can look at the AVERAGE paycheck and SEE how much taxes is taken out. And when we, as a whole, ask why, we get the typical politicians answer in a hoard or figures and percentages thrown atr us with the sole purpose to confuse us enough that we stop asking. The never ending cycle of taxes continues without any real resistance.

Anonymous said...

I hope that everyone who voted for Mitch has learned a tough lesson, if he had another term just think of all the things he could close. Democrats are not perfect but at least our schools and license branches were safe.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know what happens to OD's building debt If they consolidate with Knox? Would Knox residents help pay for that or does the OD citizens pay that above the Knox tax rate?

There is so much unknown if this doesn't go thru.

Why are we comparing Starke County to Porter County? Apples and Oranges....not even close to being alike. Check the population numbers for each and that will explain why they need so many more schools and administrators.

"Democrats are not perfect but at least our schools and license branches were safe". I just can't pass this up! The tax and spend democrats built these big schools as monuments to their greatness, never giving a thought as to how they were to be maintained. The architecture alone, the expense, "ascetically pleasing" building materials, etc, what were you thinking. I'll tell you what you were thinking, let some else worry about maintaining, my job is done. And this attitude was fed by the epidemic of apathy that pervades our society. Now all of a sudden, it's what do we do??!! Sorry I don't have the answer to that! Like everyone else, I'll just continue to complain about my tax bill.

To all who want to know where their tax dollars are spent.
First if you live in a town go to the town clerk they have all the records for taxes taken in and spent. Then go to the County Auditor do the same . Now about the State good luck there . Anyone who can misplace over 1/2 billion dollars has little or no idea of what was received or spent. And if they think all the residents of the state will understand they are baddly mistaken.

To the comparision of Porter Co and Starke Co. Porter Co has more students then Starke has people. Porter Co can efford more school because Porter Co residents work and pay more taxes to support their schools. Starke Co is always complaining about how poor they are. Well just maybe if more people worked and payed taxes instead of living off of taxes they would be better off. Co to Porter Co and we will show you the light.

Anonymous said...

To the issue of Starke Co. being compared to other Counties... Starke Co actually adopted the Solid Waste Office from Lake Co. But, Lake Co had a HUGE problem with dumping, couches on curbs, trash bags anywhere someone can get away with it. So, Starke Co found ANOTHER office to start up & bill the residents for. Without any doubt, this office far outweighs the needed cost of keeping a full-time office open & force everyone to pay for a service that very few use, especially with only 1 drop-off day a year. This is just 1 EXAMPLE how our local Gov't can "trim the fat". Secondly, with our office budgets based on the fact that IF we do not use ALL the $$ in the budget, then the State will decrease the alotted budget amount the next year, thus, ALL efforts are made to insure each budget is depleated..for God forbid if the budgets DECREASED. This principal is absurd. We should strive for lower budgets...even rewarded. WHO is going to put The People, our County, State & Country BEFORE "their" budgets & salaries? When it comes down to sacrificing what's best for the children(closing schools), we need to step back, look at our incompetency & lack of priorities, make sacrifices & do what's right.

What does the Solid Waste office have to do with the problems related to people dumping? Starke County has a HUGE problem with people dumping everything from furniture, appliance, tires, meth lab waste and just trash in general. I pick up trash on my road at least every other week and pay the trash men to haul it away. We have hauled trailer loads of tires to environment day on more than one occasion...all tires that were collected off of the road we live on. Starke County has a HUGE problem with people dumping, and I have never seen the solid waste office do anything to stop it. The letter to the editor pointed out that they take unwanted televisions at their office, and yet, I have two sitting here waiting for environment day that were dumped in our ditch on Superbowl Sunday.

REALLY ENJOYED THE HEALTH FAIR AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER TODAY. It was very professional, friendly, great food, ALOT of nice give-away items, free drawings(door prizes)...but best of all..there were FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS for Blood Sugar Levels, Bone Density, Blood Pressure, & Oral Exams. Hope all enjoyed & appreciated, & ANYONE who doesn't have insurance should've attended. Thank you to ALL the kind & courteous staff, to IU Health for a great service. Maybe IU Health should have a day that all patients can bring in their bills, sit down with a kind staff member, come to an agreement & payment plan, because getting a phone call is very unpleasant. And am glad they scrapped the Pearl Emergency Physicians, for the few times we visited the Emergency Room, our Insurance info was never relayed to the Emer.Rm.Dr., thus the billing was WAY LATE, thus sticking us w/ the full bill. But great job today, & was a clear sign that IU Health is taking Starke Co. in the right direction.

I read on facebook about the gym in town then I hear the other reasons from other people why the gym closed. I have to add a couple more. The business was downtown! What percentage of the businesses open down town actually do good? You've got 13 year olds hanging out smoking on the corners and parking is horrible. Another reason is it was not family friendly and not enough to do there even for just someone who lifted weights. We need a big nice facility that the whole family can go to that offers daycare, food, drinks, basketball, track, volleyball, etc. Before you say this town is not interested in sports and fitness just take a drive thru the park or by the soccer field on a week night.

The state of Indiana, under the reign of Mitch can't keep a handle on our tax money. Did Mitch have a motive for hiding the missing money that was found.
Interesting the first amount discovered was the same amount cut from education. As I understand money was found three different times totaling near three quarters of a billion dollars.
My thoughts are Mitch didn't run for the GOP Presidential nomination because he knew this news would come out.
Mitch wont be seeking re-election. Don,t let Mitch's buddy Mike Pence take the reigns vote the GOP bums out

Here we go again, Obama’s pen being put to yet another Executive Order that even further erodes American Sovereignty by overriding our US laws with international (UN) laws.

This EO, in conjunction with previously signed EO13563 and EO12866 bring us even closer to that utopian socialism/Despotism that this administration so diligently works toward and holds in such high esteem.

Anonymous said...

Say what you want about Mitch, but myself, as being an Independent, am content that Indiana is NOT in the Red. He has lowered property taxes, & feel his positives do outweigh the negetives. No, we've yet to find our "Great Leader", but if Obama is re-elected, we WILL see the "traditional" America gone by the wayside. Socialism is WRONG, Big Gov't is WRONG, & he is aligning US to become attached with the UN, which will over ride our Constitution, for the drafts have already been drawn up, & Hillary is assisting. It won't be American soldiers enforcing the UN law here, it will be foreign UN soldiers. Obama is already being contacted by other countries in Europe, the Middle East & many others to become their leader, so it's inevitable that Obama will be the UN(World) leader. The media is not reporting on this at all, as the main Obama backer is George Soros, a key figure in controlling world currencies...& who owns CNN & many other major news outlets. I just hope we're able to wisen up & thwart this, & remain independent from the UN.

How fast and how much money a bus drives and wastes fuel has nothing to do with anything but a waste of money and undue wear on public property, that is the problem with this whole situation, it is not emotional just the facts, whether the bus was going 70 mph or 10 I am still VOTING NO!!!!

Will someone or anyone please list the taxes that have gone down under Mitch. Sales tax up 1% personal property up farm land up gas tax up and on and on . Good job Mitch. He balanced or did he the budget ( oh by the way we found over $500 million dollars that belong to the people of Indiana) on the backs of the small bussiness, farmers and the less wealthy. He gave breaks to large bussiness to come to Indiana with low paying jobs a family of 3 can't live on . Good job Mitch, no wonder his own party didn't want him for President.

It is a rainy Monday, so lets whine about everything today. Do it here!

I agree with the person at 4:10 a.m. If you want to complain, then get out and vote! If you aren't going to vote, you have no reason to complain about who is in office. Do your part.

If you don't like how the county is run, attend meetings and speak up! County commissioners meet twice a month and always take public comment. County Council also allows public comment at their monthly meeting.

so say od did get a tax hike just how much more would that make on a house hold ? for s/g lets say it goes up by $500 a year. thats what???? roughly $2.75 a day that your child is in school. now go ask a parent whos kid goes to southbend, gary, portage, merrillville etc. etc. etc and i bet thatd be a small price to pay for a higher level of education..........just look at the iread numbers

Anonymous @ 8am said $ 500 is 2.75 a day well that is pretty fuzzy math as I will walk you thru this $ 2.75 a day as you stated times 365 days in a year, so that is 2.75 times 365 that equals $ 1003.75 So I assume that you are using the fuzzy math it will be $ 2.75 a day but you are sying that there are 181.8182 days in a year !!! VOTE NO!!!!!

Anonymous said...

i agree with this.

66% of the people who quote percentages are 97% wrong 50% of the time

i have a real question that no one has answered, if you vote yes in od to tax over the 1,2,3% cap, can then the country raise taxes even more for the jail?

with good schools you need less jails, with poor schools you need more jails.

- 52 saturdays = 0 days worked

vote yes to save the school. i dont think they could survive in the real world.

Just because you do not have kids in school, that doesn't mean that you should not care about our schools. Your neighbors have kids in school, we all have a duty to give the next generation the same or better opportunities that we had growing up. If we do not stand up now for our youth we are setting ourselves up for a big fall in the future. Everyones future will be affected by not educating our youth today. Vote yes to have a choice tomorrow. OD is not perfect, but it is moving in the right direction. If the school gets taken over we will still be paying higher taxes without any say so in how we educate and prepare our youth for everyones future. Selfish people are going to continue to destroy this country, its time to start thinking about the big picture, not the money in your wallet.

I am astounded that OD is contemplating raising taxes...when the PROBLEM IS GREEDY POLITICIANS DOWN IN INDY. WHY have we not herd ANYTHING from Joe Donnelly, or ANY of our other Reps? WHERE'S NANCY DEMBOWSKI...STILL IN ILLINOIS? WE ARE HER CONSTITUENTS! We pay MORE THAN ENOUGH in taxes to sustain OD schools. I live in Knox, & I'll fight tooth & nail if my taxes go up to cover another school system. I have heard ENOUGH of this & can't wait for a decision to be made. If I was an OD parent, I would have rounded up EVERY OTHER PARENT & drove in caravan down to Mitch Daniels office & asked for a DIRECT EXPLANATION FROM HIM....BECAUSE NONE OF OUR LOCAL REP.S HAVE DONE ANYTHING. Yes, it is tragic, but tired of the rumors, lack of facts & the "fear" tactics. But F.Y.I...I'd vote EVERY SINGLE STATE REPRESENTITIVE OUT OF OFFICE FOR AVOIDING THIS TRYING TIME FOR OD SCHOOLS & STARKE COUNTY.

To the person who is not sure there is a candiadate worthy of their vote. First I personnnaly know most of the commissioners and councul members . They give many hours to the county to do their job the best then can . Most work more hours for very little the some of the working people in this county. They spend more money out of their own pockets to do their jobs then some of the working class make in this county.
If you are so worthy why don't you put your name on the ballot, Maybe then you would see your real worth.
A person real worth is measured by what they leave behind after they leave this world not what they do today.

North Judson A.D. Robb Vessely has submitted application for North Judson to be in the NSC. This would be a great addition and I commend our new A.D. on this action.
With Russ Radkte at the football helm at New Prairie this conference is already becoming a lot stronger.
What fun it would be to have Russ back home coaching against his old alma mater.
Oh, if we only had Russ back at North Judson. What he once built, is a tradition no longer!

Anonymous said...

Just a hunch there will be ZERO chance of NJ getting into the NSC right now. There is no way the conference will want to go to 9 teams as it just makes not sense for a lot of reasons.

1. Football scheduling. Jimtown has a lot of pull in the conference and they will not want to drop NW or Concord, Bremen will not want to drop NW or Plymouth, et.

2. BBal, while there has not been talk for a while, going to 9 teams makes the possibility of a bball tourney almost an imposibility

3. Travel. The drive from NJ to Jimtown, NP and Bremen are not short trips. With travel budgets getting tight, why add an hour trip to some schools? Between boys and girls sports and HS thru JH you are looking about 8-10 trips of that length each year

Now if someone decided to get out of the conference (esp Jimtown or NP) I could see them as a possibility, but if no one leaves, no one is being added.

I find it funny that you hear people saying NO big government! Create jobs! Support small business! Yet, these are the same people who want to close OD and all small schools. Forget about personal attention, jam them all in one room with with one over worked and underpaid teacher. Close schools that create jobs for teachers, aides, substitutes, custodians, secretaries, bus drivers etc. Let's take money from the schools, merge them into one and watch them try to succeed. Look at how well the South Bend Schools are doing! How about Gary! Here are examples of this approach already at work.

Educate yourself ahead of time, and by that I mean REALLY educate yourself. Don't rely on rumors or what your longtime Democrat or longtime Republican friend or neighbor tells you (or wants you to think). Do some reading in non partison avenues, and use your God given brain. The student athletes of North Judson absolutely deserve to be in a conference and it is long overdue. The NSC makes the most sense. We were original members of the conference and thus have a right to re enter.
North Judson will improve the quality of play across the board for the conference and has a number academic standouts who participate in athletics as well.

A number of teams in the conference are already on our schedules. John Glenn and Knox have no problem for we already play them in football. Bremen and Jimtown both have prior football playoff histories with us and our schools size wise and play wise stack up better than any existing schools in the conference. Basketball has Knox, Glenn, New Prairie, Culver and Laville on our schedule. Makes more sense for us to play Bremen and Jimtown than Clay, Washington or Mishawaka.

Travel is a non issue for it goes both ways. Many games are of longer than usual travel for North Judson, do not punish our school just because we are in a remote area. Plus look across the state, wanna try the Richmond schedule out for size, for instance ?

Zero chance ? I know for fact that New Prairie is on board, so nix them of your list.

Junior High schedules have no bearing to conference play, so omit that.

Bremen/Plymouth makes no sense.

Jimtown has no extra pull. The vote is by majority,so Jimtown's has equal say, one vote.

Basketball tourney. Get rid of it. restore the holiday tourney. Remember all those great games in the 90's, I sure do. Knox and North Judson packed the houses and tore it down on the courts. Conference does not need a tourney, that what conference games are for.

Why would you single out Jimtown and New Prairie as ones you would want out? Bigger and better makes you better. I am in no way suggesting a team has to leave, but Culver would be the most likely.Culver blackballed us in the 90's. Triton and Laville also make much more sense than NP or JT. To me nine teams means an odd number and nothing more.

The benefits far outweigh the costs for North Judson to join the NSC. The points you bring are valid, but again, big picture, are weak excuses compared to what facts are given.

Well OD school survives once more, now maybe someone can tell me what the legacy is?? Been here all my life and have not seen a legacy out of the school. School should only be for a 1000 or more kids like it is set up.
People I would have rathered paid for Knox or Walkerton to be able to welcome them to there school.
Legacy well it can not be our football team, lets not tear the school to shreds but it doesn't have a LEGACY

Anonymous said...

JH does play into since they do have JH conference champions, JH conference meets, and others like that.

I mention NP and Jimtown for 2 reasons, size and proximity to other conferences that COULD at some point be a fit, NP in the NIC (although they are at 10 teams already) and Jimtown to the NLC. Not saying they are looking to move or would anytime soon, but those would be the most logical ones.

Joining the NSC would be very good for NJ, but would it bee good for the rest of the NSC, not sold on that one. If they could find another school to make it 10 teams, that would make some sense.

I forgot about NP having a lot of people with NJ ties on the board and in the admin, that will help with them.

ok raise tax without controls on spending. if you add all of od's industry together and it equals$3,000,000, which can happen. the taxes just went up $570,000. the cap of 1%,2%,3% just ended. or was the increase just on home owners and not rental or commerical, no one has answered that.

Anonymous said...

well it has only been two day since the referendum pasted I thought that there was a quote that it would not be the rate of
.19 well I seee today in the headline that the full amount will be taxed starting next year just as I figured !!!

Anonymous said...

It is .19 increase but there was a decrease of I think 11 cents due to the refinancing. The total rate is going to be .99 for OD. That is still lower the Knox and John Glenn tax rate.

It is confusing but that is in part that things changed due to that refinancing.

Anonymous said...

I can't beleive i will lose my house because of new taxes. most of the people that work at OD have very nice houses. my money is being taken away from me and given to them. I have no children. Why do i have to pay for other peoples children? with the bad economy this makes no sense to me.

Anonymous said...

What makes even less sense is allowing people who do not own property, vote on issues like this OD problem, and raise the taxes of people who do own property! Property taxes to pay for social issues is slavery!!!

Anonymous said...

I am so tired of people saying "I don't have kids why should I pay taxes?" Really? Did you pay for your education? No? Consider it payback. Schools are part of a community. I haven't heard anyone say "Why do I have to pay taxes to have a park? I don't go there." "I prefer to walk or ride my bike. Why do I have to pay the same taxes for roads as my neighbor who drives everywhere all the time." The reason that I haven't heard these things (I hope anyway) is that they makes NO sense. When you pay taxes the money is no longer yours! You do not become a shareholder in the county. Do you have a right to discuss and go to county meetings and vote for people whom you believe will do the right thing for your city, state or country - Of course! Do you have a right to debate and vote on tax increases? - Absolutely! You do not however, get to pick and choose which endeavors your money goes to. I personally hate that money I pay into the system goes to feed, house and pay for medical treatment of inmates. Esp. when there have been times over the last year when I've struggled to put food on my own table. Do I get to make that choice though? No.
If reading this message board has taught me anything it is that we need to put as much into education as we can. When you look at this board and see that most of the people here cannot even construct a sentence you should see that there is a problem.
One other thing. @Anonymous on 5/10/12 5:42pm. While I do not know about the houses of the people who work at OD I do have this to say. I assume, and forgive me if I am wrong, that you are talking about the teachers and administration. Please keep in mind that these people have college degrees and are professionals; keeping that in mind, teachers are paid far less than any other profession I know.

Anonymous said...

I feel sorry for people who leave nasty comments about teachers and any of the school systems. They must have had a terrible childhood and/or bad experiences in school. I would think they would want to use that knowledge and how they felt to improve the schools rather than spew nasty comments. I hope they speak positively to their children, if they have any in school about their teacher and school. It would be a shame for yet another person to grow up with such hateful thoughts.

I feel it's sad when we have to handle the OD problem "in house"..when the problem is in Indy. Yet, I did not hear 1 single State Rep step up & help in any way. That is an obvious insubordination of duties, & sincerely feel that not only does new Reps need elected, but the present Reps should get impeached. Our political system is out of control. We need a majot over-haul. Restructuring of the pay scale, of the retirement & insurance packages, term limits on ALL offices, and accountability to ALL constituents. Tired of seeing candidate's personalities change once they're elected. We The People ARE THE POWER, but I can't believe how we sit by & accept this. Our 1st politicians, the Rep's, basicly all offices, served FOR FREE. They received room/board, as it was AN HONOR TO SERVE THE PEOPLE. It's no longer an honor, but a lifetime meal-ticket and a power-kick. WHERE'S THE HONOR????

Anonymous said...

I know the taxes will be going up due to the OD situation, but are they really going up so much that people will lose their homes or not be able to save to send their kids to college. I mean come on really. The vote/election is over let's drop the scare tactics.

Anonymous said...

@Anonymous May 11, 2012 8:40 AM - You are making assumptions and showing your ignorance again. You assume that I am a teacher and that is why I am defending them. You are incorrect. I am someone who respects teachers and is tired of ignorant people such as yourself spewing the same few lines over and over. Yes, they knew what the pay scale would be when they entered that profession. Most still do the job because they love children and want to make a difference. You missed the point completely. The poster that I was responding to (shall I assume it was you?) was comparing the homes of professional, educated people who worked hard to earn a degree to homes of those who, in most cases, of blue collar workers. In ANY profession the person with a degree is going to earn more. My point was that you were throwing a fit saying that they were taking money away from you and your home. This is just not true. If teachers were paid according to their education (which they must continue their whole career at their own expense) like every other profession you would be paying a lot more. No one goes into teaching planning to get rich, but people like you expect them to live of off minimum wage and then you would still complain that you "pay them too much of MY money."

The bottom line is the government is the problem. Please name me one thing the government does better than the private sector.
If we controlled are own money and decided how it was used personally and privately, then we would all win.

Schools, prisons, cops, teachers, doctors, hospitals, social security, homeland security, fema, medicare, meidcaid, food stamps, tanf, bailouts, IMF( we pay 20% that goes to third world countires), green order agenda, fixed oil prices, phony wars, tsa, patriot act, cispa, nafta, cafta, ndaa act, and on and on and on and on and on and on etc....

The biggest crime against humanity : The Fedral Reserve System, which is neither federal or a reserve, but a printing press that makes money out of thin air (fiat money) and then charges our congress an interest rate.

say the first dollar that is printed off from the federal reserve and they charge let's say 10% to congress. What does congress(us) owe now, a $1.10, right? Now how much money is in circulation: one dollar. That is instant debt that has been going on since 1913.

We the people should control our money so that we can control what we need and get rid of much of what we don't.

Live liberty, folks. We are all in this together.

Pat: First all you have to do is go to the county clerks office at the court house and register to be a canidate for a local electiion. The sheriffs rase will be the highest paying. It will cost you between $5,000.00 to $10,000.00 for campain expences. Lesser payed offices cost less.
Yoy will have to go to Indianoplis to regester for Rep or Senator. These contest will cost your at least if you serious $20,000.00 out of your pocket.
Now after your elected you will have to drive $4.00 gas find houseing if eleted at the state level pay for meals and all other normal expences
And you say you will do this all for no pay .

I just can't believe that the American people don't question why a politician will spend millions on a job that pays $130K(?). If I were well off, not even a millionaire, I would serve my country in Indy or Wash for free. Our soldiers risk FAR MORE, with most making far less than they did at their jobs. It just seems to me that the Gov't has become an organized mob, spending $$$ & giving grants to companies that make political contributions, making laws for companies that they have stock in to avoid paying taxes, catering to lobbiests who buy their summer homes for them, & on & on. It's SICK to think our veterans struggle with Healthcare & Retirement, when a politician gets a Gold Package with retirement pay coming right out of office, for life, top healthcare for life & so much more. Our Fed Gov't is warped, a power struggle between parties who actually represent far bigger entities, secret societies & big business, with motives far beyond our borders. If I knew how I could change things, or what to do, I would commit my life, & give my life to make a better future for our children & our country.

My Grandfather watched as his friends died in WW I...

My Father watched as his friends died in WW II and Korea ...

I watched as my friends died in Vietnam ...

None of them died for the Mexican Flag...

Everyone died for the U.S. flag...

In Texas , a student raised a Mexican flag on a school flag pole; another student took it down.

Guess who was expelled... the kid who took it down.

Kids in high school in California were sent home this year on Cinco de Mayo because they wore T-shirts with the American flag printed on them.

Enough is enough.

The below e-mail message needs to be viewed by every American;
and every American needs to stand up for America .

We've bent over to appease the America-haters long enough...

I'm taking a stand...

I'm standing up because the hundreds of thousands who died fighting in wars for this country, and for the U.S. flag can't stand up...

And shame on anyone who tries to make this a racist message...

Let me make this perfectly clear!
THIS IS MY COUNTRY!

Maybe Sheriff Arpaio's volunteers are on to something.

Through the Internet archive Wayback Machine, WND found an August 2003 listing of Dystel & Goderich’s author bios, including the following: “Barack Obama was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review. He was born in Kenya to an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister, and was raised in Indonesia, Hawaii and Chicago. His first book is ‘Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.”

Even if the original 1991 brochure’s listing of Kenya as Obama’s birthplace was in error, as the agency has since claimed, it apparently was an error Obama allowed his publicist to persist in for over a decade, right until after he was running for president.

In April 2007, two months after Obama had launched his presidential bid, Dystel was still touting the then-Democratic senator from Illinois as “born in Kenya.”

Might this President be the biggest hoax ever played on the Anerican public?

Anonymous said...

•• I don't know where Obama was born, but I DO know that he's a liar! What are the lies protecting? Past claims to be foreign-born to give him opportunity for advancement? Financial aid? Or maybe he WAS born in Kenya? And ponder this, was he lying then or is he lying now?
Bottom line, it's just another in a long string of circumstances that have the result of undermining confidence and trust in our institutions. Just about anything having to do with our government, people are losing or have lost confidence and trust. Our election process, our government programs, congress, educational institutions, the media, the dollar, etc. etc. does anyone believe that ANY of these things are working as they should? No, of course not, and I believe that THAT IS THE POINT!
If Obama is a citizen, he could prove it in a minute. He doesn't want to, probably because he's enjoying the chaos.

Folks, the Clintons were the original birthers, but naturally the Liberal mainstream media twists the truth to make it appear that the Tea Party are the birthers.
And if you will recall during the 2008 campaign, once Hillary was offered the Secretary position then both Clintons dropped the issue. Had she not been offered some position then they would have continued their stance which was "Obama is not a natural born citizen".

Okay, one more time. Social Security, such as it was, was working fine, the funds were in a "lock box" and untouchable to all except SS recipiants. Then along came LBJ(a democrat) who opened the lock box to the politicians to loot. To make matters worse, along came Carter(another democrat) who opened the funds to illegal immigrants with a yearly SS stipend that is almost twice what most SS seniors get! Now to cover their tracks, democrats are claiming that SS is a ponzi scheme amoung other things. But you will notice, none of the politicians are willing to return the SS funds to a "lock box"! And once more, congress leads us sheep to slaughter!!!

Bilderberg meets again this early june in Chantily once more. I believe this is a first for repeat site since this inception. Once again meeting right outside our capital in an election year.

Nope not a democrat. Those who believe in the two party system lack any sense to any political problem. Social security is a ponzi scheme. The federal reserve system bankrupted the country in twenty years, then the great depression. The banks were bailed and insured through all future generations paying into this great new world order scam. It was set up to do just what it is doing today, bankrupting this country. Social security and medicare will be 100% of our national budget less than 20 years.

Obama was 20 y.o., a foreign exchange student who lived with the Auers family in Chicago. The Ayers parents testified to this, & their son is Bill Ayers, the leftist terrorist.
Our Fed.Res. was sold in 1912 by a vote of Congress on Christmas Eve 2 to 1, but who owns it is an organization of out London. EVERY DIME paid to the IRS right now goes to pay THE INTEREST on what WE owe the Fed.Res.
Now they're laying the groundwork for the NWO by bankrupting our country. George Soros, Obama's biggest contributor, is behind bankrupting other countries & bringing them into the "plan" Other countries are already asking Obama to lead them, & his czars are already working on the "transition", & "concentration camps" have already been built for those who rebel, or go broke when the country crashes.
The best chance we have is electing Romney & gettin our butt OUT of the United Nations. Then we can work on establishing OUR OWN "Federal Reserve", & not paying our tax dollars to ANYONE BUT THE USA.

It appears we have a trend, ladies and gentlemen. Significant numbers of Democratic voters in several states have now voted their displeasure against the extreme liberalism of the Obama Administration.

The president faced another embarrassment Tuesday night as over 40 percent of Democratic primary voters in the states of Kentucky and Arkansas voted against Barack Obama. The two states joined West Virginia where 43 percent of Democrats voted in favor of an imprisoned Texas felon over the imperious chief executive:

Ron Paul makes too much sense for the media brain washed John Q. Public to understand. He sounds like a politician sounded back in the 50’s prior to the paradigm shift to the left. Freedom was reasonably abundant up into the 60’s but then the majority of our law makers began to feel they knew better than their constituents about what was best for "we the people" and began to do what they felt was best for them and their party.

"We the people" were not vigilant enough and began believing what they said instead of paying attention to what they were doing.

We may now be too far down the slippery slope to reverse the trend of the radical liberal agenda now in control.

It may not seem that radical by today’s standards but look back forty years and the anti- constitutional demagoguery now taking place would never have seen the light of day back then. Most likely any politician that would have suggested some of the things that seem somewhat normal today would have been tarred and feathered and rode out of town on a rail

Why is the Gov't saying that over 300,000 internet users will be hit with a virus & be blocked from the internet on July 9th, due to the Gov't not wanting to run a "safety net" set up 6 mon ago(??if indeed it is)????? With the Homeland Security monitoring EVERY computer, they know exactly who's computers are going to be blocked. They are familiar enough with every user by viewing their activity, that every user is labelled to some degree. Or is this Obama's way of selling more computers to give a "Stimulus" to computer sellers & makers? What do you want to bet they're all Republicans??? CNN is NOT reporting on it, yet others are.Just sounds fishy & manipulative. The Internet has been going down very frequent for everyone across the country this month. Guess they feel they gotta have a better eye over us.

Hi I am stupid. I believe there is a difference between the two parties. I think that by watching tv news I am going to find some truth. I think that the president has some type of magical powers.

Pay close attention to the Bilderberg meeting next weekend in Virginia, just outside of D.C.

Anonymous said...

The difference in both parties is that they're way too far apart. Our economy is successful when there's a harmoneous balance, with the upper class having success, & then the middle & lower thriving from the job market. But the uppers have been dishonest, with the corruption on Wall St, the banks, using tax loopholes for profit, etc. But the middle & lowers have been as well, with many drawing unemployment & Gov't handouts when they don't qualify, with many not even wanting to find work. It's an errosion on all levels. CNNtv did a report showing how Obama's best qualified to help the lower end incomes, but how can he do that if businesses aren't hiring, or how can they get home loans when the credit rating jumped to 750, when most folks with any late medical bills are shot in the foot trying to get a mortgage. Bamacare WILL break the economy, & is wasting billions now, & not even into effect. But unless we end the tax loopholes, the Insurance rackets on all policies, abolish hedge funds, GIVE tax credits for Co.'s like Apple to KEEP their $$$ in the US, & so much more, we'll continue to spiral. But the mid/low income families have to WANT to work, & be honest, which in small communities it's not near the prob, & LIVE WITHIN OUR MEANS. We will NOT rise up until we all unite on the same cause, with common sense practices top to bottom, & have Dem & Rep that will WORK TOGETHER, & forget the power struggle. And we need the media to join in, & QUIT FEEDING THIS FIRE. If we could get a 3rd party, or qualified candidate who see's the positives of both parties gain popularity, I'd hope both parties would come back to the center. But our country is WAY TOO DIVIDED.

Anonymous said...

"Divide and conquer" The motto of the obama administration! Makes it easier to force people into dependency on the government! Add to that, violations of the U.S. Constitution, and you have the obama recipe for the destruction of our nation.

Read the U.S. Constitution. If you didn't learn it in school, then the Constitution will tell you that it DOES matter where a U.S. President is born.

Anonymous said...

Here is a very simple way to tell the main difference between the two major political parties. One thinks that taxing and giving that tax money to social groups and creating a dependent people is right - they believe keeping people under the rule and thumb of government is the way.
The other believes in keeping the people free by limiting government and giving citizens BACK their hard earned money to spend in our economy and believes in personal freedoms and choices to be made BY citizens...NOT by the government. ("give a man a fish /or teach a man to fish"...it's the same theory)

I believe it was a good thing but that is 1 Saturday in May. I wish there was something for a family to do the other 364 days in the year. I have heard rumors of someone trying to get some sort of athletic complex built here, I hope they get it going soon!

love said...

Why do people complain about kids have nothing to do, families spend the time with your children, go on bikes rides, hikes, camping, playing games, rent video's, make it a family night with the kids, not just let them watch it a alone. Go to the beach. Sit at the table and eat dinner and have a discussion night, find out what your chilren are doing, who their friend really are. Chilren are our most precious gift from God, go to church.

Anonymous said...

The above post from 5/28 at 4:20 am makes a great point. Why is it the town's responsibility to keep our children entertained and out of trouble? If families would just spend more time together, the kids would not be roaming the streets unattended and getting into trouble. My kids are now 22 and 20 and were not involved in any athletic programs as my work schedule never allowed for it and I felt it is just another expense that I could not afford. The fees to join, buy equipment and the gas money to run back and forth to all of the practices/games was more than my budget could handle. However, my kids were far from deprived. We did a lot of things together and we sat down at the dinner table for dinner TOGETHER every night. It is important for families to have that time to connect. Eating in front of the TV or computer was never an option here.

Coach said...

A community DOES help raise kids. I've impacted many kids through youth coaching, & have many that come to our house to hang with my kids, & always try to build their character while having fun. But yes, Starke Co does need a public athletic center. Winamac can afford a pool & YMCA, & if you visit it, it's always full of kids doing constructive things. So Knox, being an even larger town, should be able to build & sustain something for it's taxpaying residents as well. We DON'T need the YMCA name & costs that come with it. We are surely intelligent enough to design, name it Starke Co. Rec. Center, hire high schoolers(life gaurds, etc), & have something we CAN be proud of, build character in our children, and give people of ALL ages a place to better their health & lives. We do need this, if we indeed want to raise our goals & expectations of what this community CAN BE. And IF this hospital deal can help get this jump started, then by all means...JUMP. And there's SO MUCH available from the Gov't for projects like this, I am 100% certain we can attain the funding to build something that will impact our community for generations. Just so tired of the pessimism, the acceptance of lower standards & disbelief around here, that it's time to believe we can be the best, & will work hard to achieve it, for our future deserves it. I've lived here all my life, & love Starke Co. dearly, & am so tired of being looked down on by neighboring counties or State statistics. We have people working very hard to bring jobs here, people working very hard to improve our schools, but we also need to step back & look at what's missing, or what would improve our standards, & a Community Rec. Center would do that, & would make a great impression on those that may want to bring more jobs here. But just like the Community Center, or our Library, we don't go 1/2 way...make it something that shows we are a proud, hard working community that cares about each other. So please start laying the groundwork & planting the seeds for this dream to become a reality. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

Coach. I agree with you on all points except the Knox "community Center". The facility there in downtown is nothing but a banquet hall for rent... there is little community about it. We DO need a true community center.... a place for family and children that offers learning enrichment, activities, and togetherness. This has been discussed for over 10 years here in Starke County to no avail.

Anonymous said...

All that is great to do but where do we do it in this town? It would be great to have something indoors once the temperature is below freezing. The activities you mentioned will only work a few nights and there is too much tv already in our house. I am talking about an indoor track and pool along with a play area for kids.

Anonymous said...

All the above suggestions about a rec center are great, and a worthy endeavor. But, back to the reality of it all, where does the money come from to construct this? Pools, running track, play areas, do you all realize the millions involved here? Where does the poorest county in the state look for this kind of funds. The state or fed govt? Forget it, we hold no political sway to pull that off!

Anonymous said...

I agree, it would cost millions but I am sure if it was somehow constructed and was affordable it would be packed every day and night. I know everyone couldn't afford it but I am sure some sort of "incentive" program could be done so those in need could still join. Like, good grades, stay out of trouble in school, etc. $30-$40 a month isn't a big price when you think how often we drive to Lake, LaPorte, Marshall and St. Joe to do something for entertainment.

Starke County is far from the poorest county in the state. http://www.stats.indiana.edu/maptools/maps/thematic/sf3_bycounty/householdincome.gif

We seem to be able to pull together money for a new pool at the school, a football stadium, a fireworks display every year, flags for main street.... why could the community not work to pull together funds for a Rec Center? There are grants that will fund match, sponsorships, as well as fundraising. All without raising property tax. It might not come together in one year, but if the community leaders had been setting aside nest egg money in the 12-15 years that this has been bounced around, imagine the funds that could have been amassed.

40 years ago parents didn't have to worry about their kids getting beaten, abducted or have easy access to the kind of drugs out there today. It is too bad but it is true, they need a safe place with the proper supervision these days. If it was 1962 and there were 800 people living here then I totally agree just let them go play. People used to know their neighbors but who has time now with all of these new gadgets we have? I'm sure an app will come out that tells you about your neighbors...then maybe we will pay attention. A rec center would do wonders not only for athletics but also for grades.
