I certainly hope that the City of Knox allows NITline & Jerry Shepherd to place his antenna on the water tower, not only for his customers sake, but also for his business's sake, as he has been a great asset to Knox, & Starke Co., as with all our small businesses. So step up, support & help in any way possible, as with all our businesses in need. He has sponsored countless youth sports teams, employed as many as he can, & I just hope they can reciprocate & allow the antenna on the water tower. Good luck NITline & ALL our local businesses.

I thought humans learned thousands of years ago it just doesn't work for everyone to look out for themselves. We need law and order in a civilized society. Even then there are those who will try to get away with everything they can, from murder to speeding. We don't need the Feds? Can you imagine what it would be like here in the USA without a strong Federal government? It's hard enough to get the US Congress to agree on anything. Do you really think individual states would agree on anything when the wolves are at our doors? The USA would be quickly picked apart by neighboring states and the rest of the world like chickens scattered in the woods.

I don't disagree about big government needing to be carefully watched. But in my opinion that is best accomplished by education, awareness and common sense, not by foolish rumors and unfounded conspiracy theories.

When did we become so stupid? When did we become a group of sheep? When did we stop standing up for ourselves? Why? Why do we let others lead us in ways that isn't any good. Why do we put up with the garbage.

It was good to hear Anita,a nice female voice back from enjoying her sport of watching car races, maybe a future contest could involve her favorite thing, cake, perhaps in the form of a cupcake contest with her judging them. We could drop off a sample and a receipe with a hidden name over a time period perhaps with a dollar donation, so the money could be donated to a local charity or the receipes put in a booklet as a Christmas gift for a token amount that might be donated to resupply the food pantry, cupcakes are food.
And it would make Anita very happy too, so ask her and think about it.

We became "stupid" and a "group of sheep" because of the mentallity of the public. We became the puppets of "big government" because we all have a "not in my back yard" attitude. We do not care about most issues until it directly effects us. So, we sit in our living rooms, watching the evening news, and simply shake our heads and quietly complain. The days of the people standing together as one voice against threats to our safety, security, and general well being has long past. We allow politicians to spew their lies knowing full well that they cannot, and will not, fulfill their promisses of a better life.
We allow them to spend billions on other countries for aid while our own countires people are living in squaller. Living in the streets, eating from garbage. We send aid to places that would otherwise inprison and/or kill Americans at their pleasure. We allow companies to move their factories to other countires while our cities die from lack of jobs. We, as a whole, buy foeign products, produce, and almost every daily needs instead of utilizing our own people that NEED work and stability. We worry too much about "political correctness" and forget about moral and ethical actions and beliefs.

To August 2, 2012 7:14 What in the world are you talking about? Maybe the people need to be persuaded to stand up and do something. Maybe some of us are sick and tired of having a crap load of their hard earn money going to taxes. Maybe some of us are tired of paying a fortune for gas just to get to work. Maybe some of us are tired of seeing american workers lose their jobs because the company sent the work over seas. Maybe some of us are tired over alot a crap going on.

People used to care more about the public, & what went on with the Gov't when they were..more INVOLVED, & weren't overwhelmed with all the "treasures" in their home like big-screens, cable, internet, game-systems, countless toys like cars, trucks atv's, motorcycles, boats, etc., etc. We are a country that is TOO entertained, TOO passive, NOT in touch, uninformed. And probably the biggest reason our country is spiralling is that 40 yrs ago, EVERYBODY went to church on Sunday, it was your duty, we had more of a conscience & subservience to Our Maker. Now, I bet it's less than 25% of our population that attend church regularly. We are just living our lives way too fast, with our priorities way out of order, & have lost touch with our grass roots foundation. It's beyond a political party issue, it's a morale fiber issue from coast to coast. Really...do we all NEED all this STUFF? We need to humble ourselves, and get back to our "bread & butter", slow down, appreciate God & the loved ones he's givin us, & get more involved in our communities.

One problem may be that we have expected an allowed class of elitists to make our decisions for us. People who have no connection or commonality between us, pick who we will vote for, options we will chose from. Problem being that the choices and options benefit us not! Time to form committees of peers to perform as representatives, and give us real choices and options that are concerning us, not just the elitists!

I posted a comment about the slide in the town park about the comments that were out there, but I was refused to have them print my comment. I guess it was not important enough that our children playing on that slide is safe. When it comes to something for the children it is taken that they aren't important enough to be kept safe and enjoy the park. I hope people who have not seen the slide take a trip to the park. So it cost 12000.00 dollars. What does not cost more today to have anything. People wise up, children are our future in this world.

No doubt about it. America has become an entitlement society. Why work hard for anything, when it's owed to us. Local farmers can't even get anyone to pick their blueberries. A 2012 report shows 2/3's of adult Americans are overweight or obese. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to equate being overweight with the poorer in our society. What's up with that? Never mind, I already know.

How much stuff do we burn in this county? Every other day, the headline is burn ban this and burn ban that. C'mon, what the world? I get the sense that I should go burn something? If they lift the burn ban, I'm going to go outside and look for something to burn, then I will feel better. Pffff. Look at me, I'm burning something legally. Pffff.

What is the deal with this house on the corner of Washington and Heaton St.? They are selling a bunch of stuff every day, including a washer and dryer a couple of feet from the road. I thought you had to have a permit to have a garage sell? Not these people. Apparently open every day for business. Real nice impression for Knox. "Welcome to Knox" -- you want to buy some junk? Here it is, every day, good price for You. No permit necessary!

Entitlement; it isn't just us poor lazy Democrats that think we are owed something. Look around at all the well-to-do Republican farmers. The ongoing Federal farm subsidies have become just another entitlement. There is one difference; it takes a lot of food stamps to equal the 5 and 6 figures some of our local farmers have raked in from subsidies. Oh, and one other difference, I've heard farmers say they don't really need the financial assistance, but they would be foolish not to take it. Afterall, they are ENTITLED to it. It's a matter of public record. It's online and posted by county.

Not to mention the assistance the farner receives for growing corn for ethanol. With the drought situation as it is, the shortage of feed for live stock, human consumption, and the resultant price increases we will have to bear, does it make sense to use 40% of the corn harvest for ethanol production. Don't feel sorry for the "poor farmer"!

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS are fast approaching for registered voters in Oregon, Davis, North Bend, Center, Washington and all of Californina 1 but only part of California 2. The registered voters in California 2 who live within the Knox School district are eligible but those who send their students to North Judson are not eligible to vote for school board memebers. The deadline to file for a school board member to the Culver, Oregon-Davis and Knox school boards is August 24th.

James - Are there any who have already filed for the positions on the school board and how many openings are up for election? Do you have to be a certain party affiliation to file for the seats that are open? I'm assuming these positions don't all go off at the same time so more info would be appreciated. Thanks for posting!

Drink the Kool-Aid Sheeple

There is actual substance in some of the previous posts, perhaps John Q. Public is finally pulling his head out of the sand. Conspiracy theories? Where there is smoke there is fire or at least enough heat if supplied additional oxygen there would be a fire. Moral and ethical? Sadly and unfortunately in our society they are both on the wane. We are on the same course that Rome and other ancient civilizations took. Ignoring history one is bound to repeat it over and over again. Will we ever learn?

Well what can you say when the very government that says if you harbor or aid terrorists like Al-Qaeda then you are one of them. As George W. Bush said, “You are either with us or you are with the terrorists.” OK, then what do you do when that very government jumps in bed with those same terrorists. We were paying Osama bin Laden as a CIA agent during the 1980′s in Afghanistan. We in essence armed him and funded him.

Lately Barack Obama has helped this same terrorist organization in Libya and now we are helping them in Syria. So could we say our government is now aiding terrorists? What should happen to them? Should they not be held accountable?

Oh no says the Department of Homeland Security. In fact, while we know that our government is doing this and doing it illegally I might add, they are not even considering the people who have been involved in the “terror attacks” in the past. No, no. they are out to get conservatives and with a vengeance. In a nut shell if you are leaning right you’re considered a terrorist by DHS who BTW dictates policy to Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement.

corn for people is not used in ethanol. the ethanol process has a by product with is cattle feed so none of the corn is wasted, it is still used for feed, but the corn is now more digestable by cows than before the ethanol process. cows should really be eating grass, hays and straws with are in real short supply.

This earlier post is a good example of unfounded conspiracy theories.

"Oh no says the Department of Homeland Security. It seems the person who posted this is saying the Dept of Homeland Security is a left wing Democratic organization out to get right wing conservatives.

Very stange thinking, since we had a Republican President and both houses had a Republican majority in 2003 when the Dept of Homeland Security was organized.

I'm sure we will now hear how that was all smoke and mirrors.

DHS is now being used as a private force of the administration. It picks and choses what laws and areas it must concentrate, as dictated by the administration. Considering vets returning from middle east as potential terrorists was NOT the vision of the republican majority!

Upon reading about the high cost of cleaning our park and seeing the danger to volunteers, I thought what good PR it would be for some of our local tree services to donate their services to the city. If all of them even offered to take down or clean up some of the trees it would help in the cost. I am sure the city would be grateful enough to thank them in the local paper or radio station so the public knew who to thank and consider using for their own residence.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous at 9:41 - I am not a person who owns a local tree service but as a local business owner, do you realize that it costs these businesses money to do things? Fuel is not cheap. They use fuel for their trucks, chain saws, motors to run other equipment such as chippers. Perhaps the citizens should just all donate money to help pay for the clean up. I don't see why any business should be asked to do the clean up out of the goodness of their heart when so many are struggling just to make a living and I am sure tree services are in very high demand right now to their paying customers.

Businesses get hit up every single day for donations to causes, both local and otherwise. As a business owner, I no longer donate to anyone because in this economy, I simply cannot afford to donate when I need what little I make to feed my family.

Maybe before you ask local tree services to foot the bill for the damage, you should wait to see what the insurance is going to cover. If it doesn't cover the cleanup, perhaps you would like to volunteer to head up some fundraisers to help clean up the park?

Personally, I'm more worried about right wing extremists than Homeland Security. These people seem to cater to the worst traits in all of us, whether it be racism, human rights or white supremacy. They are disillusioned and dangerous. They stockpile non-hunting weapons and ammunition. They are more than happy to impose their beliefs on the rest of us. And sometimes they snap.

Wednesday’s massive outpouring of support for Chick-fil-A provided a visual reminder to all concerned that the vast majority of morally minded Americans reject the oxymoronic notion of so-called “same-sex marriage.” It proved with earthshaking resonance that liberals’ whole “gay-marriage-is-inevitable” thingy remains as sterile as the fraudulent concept itself.

You’ve just witnessed a highly successful business model in action. It’s simple: 1) Publicly acknowledge God’s objective, transcendent truth; 2) Infuriate the toothless “progressive” establishment, prompting calls for boycotts and empty threats to ban you; and 3) Rake in the cabbage.

Here we go again. 7 shot dead in Wisconsin, including a police officer. The assailant was described a white man with a shaved head. Police are calling it a hate crime and domestic terrorism. What do you think? Left wing liberal or right wing extremist?

Since I’m a Democrat with a permit to carry a concealed weapon, I think I have a right to say this. We’ve all heard something like guns don’t kill, people kill. Doesn’t that become a moot point with so many mentally disturbed people out there with easy access to just about any kind of weapon? NRA membership wants less, not more gun control, as far as more thorough background checks, databases and registering. Once again we have the tail wagging the dog. Survey after survey says a lot more people want more gun control than those who don’t. I don’t have anything to hide, so I had no problem getting a background check, finger printing and registering my firearm. My only complaint is it was way too easy!

Anonymous said...

To the gun carring Democrat. The last survey June 2012 was 53 % against more controls to 46 % for. I agree it's not to hard for an honost upstanding peroson to get a permit to carrie but its not those folks doing all the shootings.
More severe punishment is the answer . The person who shot and killed 6 people in Arizona is only getting life. The death penelaty is what he should get.
The courts need to step up to the line . Most people who do the most violent crimes know they are going to prison if caught . If they knew they would get the death penality maybe just maybe they would think twice before doing the crime.

Okay, one more time. Having a carry permit has nothing to do with the recent rash of shootings. Those done with long guns had nothing to do with handgun possession. And if it did, what stops a person from illegally obtaining a handgun. People, stop blaming the weapon, put the blame where it belongs. People are not afraid of breaking the law as punishment is NON existant!!! Illegal sales and possessions will continue until the criminal justice systems recovers from the codependancy state. We would be better off prosecuting defense attorneys!

Johnny Reb said...

More gun control, are you nuts? More people should be armed and with the knowledge to use deadly force PRN. If there had been even one armed citizen in the theater the death toll and wounded numbers could have been dramatically reduced.

I do not have a party affiliation but if I did it would Libertarian or Constitutionalist. The people are supposed to dictate to the elected and they are supposed to do what the people want. Instead when elected they become pious and feel they know what is best for us.

All I want is for “big government” to butt out of my business. I will not bother anyone unless they are interfering with the inalienable rights guaranteed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights of me or mine. Remember the Gadsden Flag.

Anonymous said...

I agree that some of the tree removal companies should out of the goodness of their hearts donate their time and equipment to help out the city park. I know it costs money to run the equipment and gas prices are not cheap. But, probably their kids or grandkids are playing in the park and enjoying it. I happen to know that some of the tree removal prices on the day of the storm were outrageous. I think they could afford to donate one day to help out the community.

Anonymous said...

I'm not talking about restricting upstanding, sane citizens from having weapons. I'd like to think I am one of them. I'm talking about all the nut cases who are able to easily get weapons meant for nothing but killing people.

Easy to say the courts should do a better job. But in most cases it is a first offense when these disillusioned nut cases kill a bunch of people. In almost every case they got their weapons legally. Do you really think the death penalty would deter them? That would make most of them happy. Get the headlines, go out with a bang!

I don't especially like it, but I don't see any answer except more gun control. Maybe a person buying a gun should have to provide signed affidavits from other people willing to put their name on the line for them, like their neighbor, minister, teacher, doctor. Yeah, like that's going to happen.

You are obviously missing the point. Nut bags and criminals will have fire arms regardless. You and every law abiding citizen need to be armed. The 2nd Amendment first and foremost was written so that we the people could protect ourselves from tyranny, meaning a dictatorial big government, we’re close to that now, but also to protect us from the bad guys.

What are you going to do if confronted by an armed felon and you have no means of protecting yourself? Do whatever they want or likely die.

Anonymous said...

Ok, wow! I sure struck a nerve with you. Didn't mean too. I know fuel, insurance etc costs money and that our local business people do a great deal for our community. Of course, the wise thing to do would be to wait for insurance and government help. I'm was just saying that it would be a kind thing to do IF they could afford too. I most certainly would not want a family going hungry over it. As far as heading up a committee for a fundraiser, well I would not know where to start with that but I am sure some of our elected officials would. Didn't they do something of that nature to raise money for fireworks? I sure would buy or donate what I could to help out.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS

These are the school board seats that are up for election in this fall's general election:

Knox Community Schools: The candidate must live in the township where there is a school board seat to be filled however the voters in all the school districts vote upon the candidate. The seats open are for California-Washington seats #2 and #3, and Center township seat #4.

Culver Community Schools will have one seat (at-large) to be filled. The candidate must live within the school district and may be from any of the four counties that send children to the Culver schools. This candidate will be voted on by all the school district's voters.

Oregon-Davis School Board will have two at-large seats that will be filled. The candidate must live within the school district and all voters in the school district will vote upon the candidates.

If you are interested in filing for a school board seat in any of these three school corporation, you should go to the Starke County Clerk's office in the court house and complete a CAN-34 form. If you want additional information call 772-9160 for details. Evelyn Skronski the county clerk will assist you.

A fundraiser or too? Where are the friends of the park, to pull this together?

If you have been interested in the proposition of any government sponsered gun control program, you will find that it is not the firearm itself nor the legality of ownership that they have, at any time, been sucessful at restricting. It is the necessary equiptment, such as holsters, ammunition, ect., that they continually restrict or tax so high as to limit the ability to purchase these items. They sneak into law provisions called "pork" that are attached to other proposed laws that have nothing to do with firearms. This is how they are able to get bills into law without anyone ever knowing about them. Remember N.A.F.T.A. ??? No one ever heard of it until it was already a law.

When our forefathers devised the bill of rights over 200 years ago, things were a lot different. Private citizens armed with muskets could have gotten together and defended themselves against a military that had the same kind of weaponry. Our nation's founders didn't envision heat seeking missiles that could be fired by aircraft using satellite imagery or a single bomb could take out an entire large city.

Even if they had foreseen today’s technology , do you really think they would have written language into the bill of rights allowing private citizens to own such weapons? It is ludicrous and paranoid to use the argument that citizens still need guns to defend themselves against big government. It seems to me education, awareness and involvement would be a much better defense against a tyrannical government these days.

I’m not an anti-gun bleeding heart liberal, but I think we should have much stricter gun control laws. My wife and I keep several fully loaded guns around the house. We don’t have any children or grand-children to worry about. I have a permit to carry and sometimes do in certain situations. Why? Not because I’m paranoid about BIG government, but because too many “private citizens” of the criminal variety have weapons and are not hesitant to use them.

Dkas,

God bless you for not being asleep. I wanted to wriite this post just as yours days before. You totally echo my thoughts.

I hit on fema so hard while missing the main objective that everyones local and state police and firefighters have been federalized under homeland security. This is what happens in dictatorship countries in history and the outcome is always tragic.

Anonymous said...

the original intent of the 2nd amendment is clear, to resist against a tyrannical government. This would apply to fema, homeland security, any branch associated with such or any foreign entity such as nato. The constitution is God given rights, natural. Anyones opinion that differs is mute. God has a heavy price for those who refuse to obey. Majority rule is a falsehhod a majority of you live under, for our forefathers warned us all of the WORST form of government a democracy. Democracies ALWAYS lead to a dictatorship. We are a REPUBLIC. Which means you have natural rights. Even if you are the last person on earth who exercies such, you are right. Our country was founded on a minority. Thank god we did not fall under the third who supported the king of england or the other third, the timid, who most of you fall under.

We are in a huge propaganda psy op to grossly restrict guns and ammo. The 2nd amendment is what makes us a free nation under god. The 2nd amendment protects all are other rights. Every single country in the history of the world that disarmed it's citizenry became SLAVES.
Do not buy into the the propaganda. These recent shootings were planned. They are predetermined just as the wars are. those who call for more restriction are begging for their own enslavement. Those who clamor for more restriction are going against god's word. If you want more restriction move to North Korea. You want a big strong government, move to North Korea.
This is the home of the free and the land of the brave. You must be strong and even smarter right now to withstand the complete B.S. that is being fed to you by the controlled federal government , t.v. and newspaper. Learn the constitution, learn about your natural god given rights. Learn history. Do not pick a red or blue side, for this is the tar pit trap for which many are stuck. The only two sides are Freedom and slavery. This is not a sporting event which is fine to have opinion and believe your side is right. When dealing with government philosophy and history there is a right answer. Ultimately being democrat or republican is demanding slavery. Demand freedom. Live Liberty. Love yourself and your family and neighbor. Wake up to we are all in this together and drop the phony pitting against eachother ( republican or democrat). We are Americans.

Beware, take care

**you must have a real chip on your shoulders against farmers. Do you know one personally? They are not all the same you know. Have you ever sat down with a farmer and aske to see how much each tractor cost or how much he pays out in seed, fertilizer , gas, equipment repair etc etc? Would you be brave enough to put out all that money and hope the weather is good? Insurance you might say, yes they have insurance for crop loss. It doesn't cover all of the loss and you do have to pay for that as well as huge liability coverage. Those big trucks they drive around in are not just for show, they are a piece of equipment. Sure they may have a nice house and maybe a nice family car, aren't they entitled? Other people have nice things, do you degrade them for it? If you are so jealous of farmers why don't you do like they did and buy a tractor and some land and GET RICH!!! Hope you got that last bit of sarcasm there!!

Anonymous said...

I don't have anything against farmers, and I do personally know several large farmers. I just don't think farmers should keep receiving special treatment. Can you imagine the uproar if car makers kept getting a bailout every year? I don't see much difference between federal subsidies for farmers and federal bailouts. Maybe that's because I can't get one for my family.

I am also not a fan of Rush, he is a comedian and entertainer for those who appreciate that type of humor.

And speaking of Big Mouth, I suspect you are one who enjoys dominating all conversations with a rude and excessive vocal dB level.

To Aug. 7 1:24 pm: Farmers have the very important job of feeding the world. We non-farmers appreciate that. However, don't tell us to go buy some land and start farming. Most big farmers in this area inherited land and equipment from their parents and grandparents, bought some of their own, and/or rent crop land from others. The programs we are opposed to are those that give subsidies to farmers for NOT growing anything. The subsidies farmers receive in Starke county are viewable online, and they amount to a lot of money. Maybe you aren't one of the farm families that receive them.

"Farmers have the very important job of feeding the world" A quote that seems to have been archived as presently it is more lucrative to feed the ethanol production than feed the world, more money involved plus subsidies. Interesting to note that in Haiti, prior to ethanol an adult ate 5 meals a week, now dropped to 3 as corn is scarcer on the world market.

GUN CONTROL... Why is it that when mass shootings take place, the weapons of choice are always assault weapons such as AK47's, AR15's, ect. However, the powers that be aim their attention at ALL firearms ? They try to use these shootings as a platform to ban/further restrict the ability to purchase and or carry legally obtained and registered handguns. THey say things such as "It is far too easy for criminals to obtain weapons". True, it is easy for CRIMINALS to obtain weapons OF ALL TYPES. But all the proposed and current handgun regulations are doing is makeing it more and more difficult for the LEGAL purchase and registration of firearms. These laws have done nothing to restrict criminals from obtaining them. The laws for the illegal purchase, possession, carrying, or use of these ILLEGALLY obtained firearm have not changed. Maby, just maby, if you increase jail terms and fines to a level that would actually make these people think twice befor obtaining and/or useing weapons, it might have an effect. As it stands now. If you are caught with an ILLEGALY owned firearm, NO jail time is imposed. That is unless the person is a convicted felon. Then, a "token" ammount of incarceration is imposed. Why the powers that be only want to restrict legal ownership/possesion of firearms but not properly punish the criminal elements? I mayself posess several LEGALLY obtained and registered handguns, as well as several that are NOT registered. Why both ?? Simple... when they do eventually are sucessful in taking away my REGISTERED weapons, I will still have the ability to protect my family from those criminals that have weapons and intend us harm. Is it not a shame that honest people must act as criminals for protection.

The reason AR-15's assault rifles (civilian version of the M-16) are available to anyone with the money to buy them is the NRA. Now don't get me wrong. I have nothing against the NRA per se. They do a lot of good. The problem, as I see it, is they are way too powerful and wealthy as a lobby in congress.

We have to ask ourselves; just why is the NRA so intent on not restricting AR-15 weapon sales?

And the answer is; there about 2 dozen gun manufacturers in the U.S. that have sold over 2 million AR-15's. The next question to ask is how much money do you think these gun manufacturers have contributed to the NRA to lobby congress against gun control under the pretense of the Bill of Rights?

But the real people to blame for this situation are our Senators and Representatives, and now I'll get off my soap box.

once again, ethanol corn is not people corn, also use beets which are human food but who likes beets anyway. the ethanol corn is processed and alcohol is removed, then the mash or "waste" dries and is sold to cattle feed companies, there is no waste of the corn product, it is a product in which yeast is used to grow and make alcohol, so it is not creating any price spikes or any food shortages. the high price of corn and beans are due to the high cost of fuel, seeds, government regulations, and china offer to pay higher prices to get it because they or short of product because their people are working in factories and not farming, if our jobs were here all of our prices would come down, and plus our people would have jobs and money to buy items with. next yr the meat prices with sky rocket because of this yrs weather. so buy beef, pork now and freeze.

I saw this posted online and thought I'd share:

This message is from a principal in New Zealand who shared the wise words of a judge who regularly deals with young people...

We often hear the cry from teenagers, "What can we do? Where can we go?"

My answer is - go home, mow the lawn, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft, get a job, visit the sick, study your lessons, and after you've finished, read a book.

Your town does not owe you recreational facilities and your parents do not owe you fun.

The world does not owe you a living, you owe the world something. You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no one will be at war, in poverty or sick and lonely again.

In other words, grow up, stop being a cry baby, get out of your dream world and develop a backbone, not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person. You are important and you are needed. It's too late to sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday.

Someday is now and that somebody is you!

Is C&C Salvage going to be MADE to CLEAN up the ground on the property too? It isn't enough to get all the proper permits unless you clean it up too

Auto salvage has been going on at that location for at least 60 years or more. I guess it's C & C's problem now, but I have a feeling far worse things have happened there in the past. Remember when backyard mechanics just dumped old oil and gas on the ground? Remember when people used old tires to get a good fire going? I do. Boy, were we stupid.

Tell you what. If you pay my taxes for one year then I will be glad to give you my subsidy payment for one year. The govt gets more from me than I take from them. So get off your greedy high horse and get over it. By the way I didn't inherit a single acre or tractor. Also inheriting isn't free you get taxed on that too. Let me guess you probably are one of those people that get more back than you pay in on taxes. Where do you think the govt gets that money? From people like me.

Anonymous said...

I love the term "assault rifle" when referring to AR-15's and the like. A term coined by liberals who would destroy all firearms because in thier perfect world things like "guns" don't exist. Adding the word "assault" to the rifle makes it sound more evil, but in fact, the word assault would work just as well in front of words like, knife, spoon, car, baseball bat, etc. As I sit here typing on my "assault computer", I would remind you of New Zealand who recently banned and destroyed all guns after confiscation and provides a good example of resultant soaring crime rates. Especially home invasions, which the politicians are arguing over the definition of(seems like a victim of a home invasion could provide a definition if asked)! The restriction of sales of any firearms is simply a violation of our constitutional right to keep and bear arms, nothing more, nothing less. When the legal system provides a proper punishment for the illegal possession and use of firearms, such crimes will diminish. You are right when you say congressmen and senators are responsible, but they are responsible for a WHOLE lot more than accepting donations from the NRA, lets get priorities in order! Okay, who's next with this soapbox?

I'm sure back in the old days people didn't care about our environment. They knew they were breaking laws. Anything they can do to save money they will.

Nope, I'm a private contractor. I don't get paid to NOT build fewer houses or a subsidy if I can't sell one for a decent price. I have to lay out a lot of money and pay a lot of taxes, too. Never have time to gab for an hour or two over coffee and breakfast at McD in the mornings, either.

Anonymous said...

So, you deserve a subsidy because you pay taxes? Then where is MY subsidy. I am not one of those people who get more back than I pay in on taxes. I actually am a professional who also owns multiple properties on which I pay taxes, too. I didn't inherit any of them, either. So we're in the same boat, except that you are eligible for subsidies and I am not.

I just read Nancy Dembowski's letter to the editor in the local paper. I have to say that I am surprised that a state representative doesn't know the difference between a lease and a sale. I guess Talia Reed's article last week must have hit a nerve. It is pretty amazing the number of cuts that Nancy outlined that were made by the Daniel's administration. It sounds to me like there was a lot of pork in the budget if we were able to cut all of those things and the state is still running. In a bad economy, cuts have to be made to keep a balanced budget. I think school budgets could be cut even further. Not in teacher salaries, but there is an awful lot of waste in the school budgets. Or do the schools all NEED expensive concession stands and such? I guess those are required for a good education, right?

Anonymous said...

Subsidies aren't up to the farmer on whether or not they get them. It's part of the federal farm bill written up by the gov't and approved. I am sure if they took them away you wouldn't hear a farmer on hear whining about it. They would be out busting their butt earning a living and feeding a hungry world.

The only way to cut school spending is to end the department of education. This department started in 1979 under the Carter admin. It was doubled in size through Bush's "no child left behind act". The ninth of ten planks of the communist manifesto is government controlled education.

our schools have been under complete communistic philosophy during this period ('79 to present). It only gets worse every year. The amount of money spent is ever increasing as the outcome from the students at best has flatlined all the while.

In short : increased spending on education does not equal increased learning.

Keep control and funding of our schools local. Parents, teachers and school board should be the only decision makers for our schools.

I agree! They should be required to take photo and thumbprin, that way the police can track who sold what. I took an old farm truck there and they asked my name and I could have said anything. They didn't ask for a title and on the little piece of paper I signed it just said "red truck" it made me wonder how many cars had been crushed that were stolen or insurance fraud.

Randy said...

In response to :August 9, 2012 1:29 PM.....
Seriously ?!? Your thoughts on school spending are clearly made without proper or correct information. The need for "expensive concession stands" as you put it, for example. The need for concession stands, in any form, is that they generate funds used for the respective school teams for supplies. If it were not for the funds from concessions, the price of tickets for attending activities would greatly increase in order to compensate for the loss of funds. You cannot make a blanket statement concerning the usage of funds for schools without researching where the funds are spent or the repercussions of altering such funds and/or activities. The fact that schools require more funds than in previous years is caused in no small part to the ammount of students. As the community grows, so does the needs of our schools. Also, without the availability of school activities other than simply going to school for education and sitting in class all day, students would quickly be discouraged from attending and the drop-out rate would greatly rise. Not to mention the quality of education in whole would be directly effected. It is a struggle to keep our youth interested in or willing to attend school as it is, taking away or restricting activities and other accepted diversion from the day to day educational process would only work to make this struggle more difficult. It would also make other activities, illegal or otherwise, more attractive to these youths.

Thank you Florida, Kentucky and Missouri for being the first states to require drug screening when applying for welfare. Some people are whining and complaining this is unconstitutional. Unconstitutional ??? It’s OK to drug test people who work for their money but when it comes to a government hand out it’s not?

This needs to be replicated in all 50 states. If those people can afford to buy drugs they can afford to pay for their own groceries, rent, telephone etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on why US stock markets have more than doubled since January 20, 2009? My 401K would like to know who to thank!

Anonymous said...

Randy - I fully realize that the concession stand might generate money for the school sports. However, school sports are not necessary for an education. School is for education. Not entertainment. Most kids cannot afford to be in sports so if you are not one of the elite few who are allowed to play, it is still very discouraging to those who TRY to join a team. Ask a kid who spends his hard earned money to buy the necessary equipment, gas to attend the required practice sessions, puts in a lot of effort and sits the ENTIRE season on the bench. I know that kid. I raised him. He only went out for that team one season due to the effort he put in and the fact that the coach never let him play because the other kids were better players after having been in sports their entire lives. School is not about sports. It is about education.

Hey Randy, how many girls softball games do you go to in a season? 1, 5, 15?? You must buy a lot of hot dogs. Maybe 300K worth? Get real, run for Knox School Board.

Anonymous said...

I feel for the kids that have to sit the bench because they aren't as talented as some others. But that is the nature of sports and the object of a sporting event is to win. The life's lesson here is you cannot always be a winner in all endeavors. The practice of giving every player a trophy, and stating everybody wins is the beginning of another entitlement generation that expects to be handed a winning life!! I laud the spirit of the kid who puts effort into supporting a team in any way he can, inspite of the fact he won't be the star. But letting him realize that by himself is part of parenting, and puts him on a healthy start to recognizing his own strengths. And then there are those who live thier lives vicariously through thier children.

The concession stand is nice, but I do feel there was a lack of planning on the part of the school-board & engineers. If you've ever been to Newton Park in Laville, they have the concession stand centrally located, with the fields homeplates all near the stand, & fields protruding out, so if the softball field had been turned around, it & the baseball field could've used the same stand. It is nice, & very happy for the girls & the program, as Knox is going to have some top notch softball teams for many years to come, so hope folks come out & support them, but again, field should've faced the opposite way, & woyuld've saved alot of $$$, & I love when there's a game goin on both fields & can easily keep up w/ both. Go Redskins!

I have a question for all of you who want drug testing for welfare. Are you willing to take in all the kids who get taken away from their parents because they fail the test? Most drug addicts aren't going to quit doing drugs because they might lose their food stamps. Better get ready to fork out some more money to open state run orphanages. I hate that kids have to live with drug addicts, but it happening. I just really don't believe most people will be opening their homes to them. Or do you just leave the kids with known drug users?

I am curious to see how they handle this in other states. Believe me, I think the current system is flawed, but I think there are a lot of unanswered questions. It's like opening a big can of worms.

I feel sorry for the kids living w/ drug abusing parents, but they are already there. Lets take a step to fix that by testing. If the parent(s) are found in violation, they can always be punished on alternate weekends or by community service, while the kids get visits by DSS. There is no perfect system or answer, but the worst answer is doing nothing and allowing the situation to fester.

Anonymous said...

Drug testing is for slaves. It is anti american. It is true the only ones who will suffer is the children. The CPS puts 6 million children into homosexual child sex slavery every year. Cps children are at a 90% abuse rate. No matter what the child is always better with a natural parent.

Drug testing falls under an "ism" philosophy. The United States is the greatest country in the world because we follow, or should I say USE TO follow the philosophy of Freedom. North Korea, China and a select Middle East country for instance love the idea of drug testing. Maybe you crybabies should move there.

What about prescription pills, that is the most prevelant, addictive and life threatening problem. Drug testing does not include these poisons. Most likely those who wrote the pro drug testing posts are on multiple pills, while pointing their fingers at others.

I would also venture to say that those who wrote the pro drug testing, also wrote or are anti arab. Chew on this: in 2000 the Taliban had completely eradicated poppy plants in Afghanistan. Now thanks to the war, CIA, Mossad, military, NATO and Indiana National Guard; the production has never been higher, not even remotely close to any production level n the history of the world. You crybabies are right in line with Muslim theory, haha.

You gonna pay for the tests?

Marijuana would be by far the most tested for substance(food is considered a substance, also, notice my choice of words). What a horrid shame it would be to lose your benefits over marijuana. If you do not get that argument, there is no hope for you, anyway.

As far as money, we are talking peanuts. Social security and medicaid comprise 40% of our budget. Again most likely those who wrote for drug testing are sucking up all that money. "Oh, but I earned it"....shut up ! It is still coming out of our yearly taxes like welfare, for that is what it is, just at a much, much larger amount. Lucky we do not declare I.Q. tests for your socialistic benefits.

The money problem in this country and world are as follows :
1. The Federal Reserve System
2. The phony wars
3. Social secruity/medicare

If you are crying about any issue outside these three, it is comparable to spitting in the ocean.

The is a solution to the drug welfare problem. Ever been in a barracks in the service. Give mom and kids a room, Moms can keep the whole building clean, have a large area for them to all meet in with TV games ect. Mom's can work if they find another mom to watch the kids, but must be home right after work to take care of the kids. No boyfriends to feed, this way, kids will be safe and if Mom does not like the arrangement, she can move out, then the state can decide if she is ready to take her kids if she is out and ready to take care of her kids properly. If women had this arrangement, think of the men that would start supporting the family. Also no nights out, to spend with boyfriends.

This week the free food will be given away locally, however, one must wonder if it really reaches the greedy or the needy. Most really needy poor but proud will not want to be seen receiving it. However, the greedy have learned how to get more than their share. It is suppose to be one box per family, some families come away with one box per family member. Others shove old ladies waiting out of the way to get some. And at least one woman from a different county, has found a way to receive it outside of her county and in our county. When it is her turn to show a local identidy & address, she accidently spills her purse so the woman in charge just passes her through. She is so poor she has gas money to go lots of miles outside of her own county to collect more than her share of free groceries. Others just sign a different name each time,it is sad that lots of people donate and a record is kept of food given out for the poor Americans, when many who take it do not qualify for it. Of course, there are those who receive it who do need it, but Americans have learned to be greedy and take food away from those who do need it. And then they blame the government for the lack of money while wasting the money by not careful planning can lower a food bill by using coupons and watching sales. Even those who need and use food stamps could stretch them by buying sale items. Most every item will be on sale at least once per month in a store, it is a sad situation that most people believe they deserve everything free without taking care of what they do earn. They figure if they waste what they earn then it is the government's job to take care of them, however, we the people of America are the government, so a wasteful person is also cheating themselves and others too.

And that he would personally oversee any group that wanted to continue with the Festival. Well, folks he has not helped at all and I would like to know where the money went. It sure did not go to the Festival group. Perhaps it could be donated to the Park cleanup efforts.

In 2005, Bush attempted to enact controls on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac which were going wild with unsecured housing loans. Banks accross the country were being coerced by ACORN, among others, to make these unsecured loans to people that were unable to make the payments. The attempt was thwarted by the democratic controlled house and senate, giving free rein to Fannie and Freddie. Both concerns donated huge amounts to election campaigns of (in order) democrats Dodd, Obama, and Franks. You can't blame Bush for what the democratic house and senate wrought through Fannie and Freddie!

I'm a Rep., & loathe the Bush family. Reagan didn't even want Bush as VP, but was forced to. Bush Jr. was being indicted on the S&L Loan Scandal in Texas, which the evidence was in the 7th floor basement of the World Trade Center just before it fell. Bush de-regulated the banks nationally while being Pres., & they made HUGE fortunes on all the foreclosures. Those loans were set up TO FAIL, they were Gov't Insured, & reaped a 30 yr interest rate paid by...who else...the taxpayer. It was Bushes misdeeds, such as wars for oil & lithium that left the door open for Obama to get elected. Seriously, that's how bad of a Pres. Bush was that the country would actually elect a man, who they know nothing about, who never served ANY complete term in office, nor military service, named Hussein as our Pres. Does that show how bad Bush left things, that America would actually turn to this??? Wish we had an Independent take America by storm & tell both parties to take a hike & go back to Morales 101.

Anonymous said...

I stand corrected, what I really meant was 2007 when the dems took over. But I still maintain Bush attempted to stop Fannie/Freddie, 17 times, starting in 2001, as a matter of fact and it was blocked by mainly Franks. In 2007, Franks took over Finance, Dodd took over Banking - 15 month later the financial meltdown occurred in what part of the economy - Banking and Finance. If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.
In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is, "I inherited a deficit that I voted for,
And then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th, 2009."

Remember a little thing Bush and Cheney were big investors in called Enron. Another investment and ownership of a company called Halliburton that profited billions from fighting an unnecessary war in Iraq. Big business.

Obama may have raised our national debt but he did it to help the millions of citizens losing their jobs after eight years of Bush policy designed to line his buddies pockets.

The Rep Party's stance is basicly where the Dem.Party was 40 yrs ago, & the Dem. Party stance is now so far left, it's bordering on Socialism. The traditional old school Rep.'s can see this, but mainly, those of each party just keep following along, & cheer whatever they hear. Ryan seems hard-nosed, as he passed a budget in Wisc that will balance their budget. I also agree that why do public service employees need to be in a Union,...thus wasting tax $$$??? They can get the same pay(or maybe even better), without having greedy Union Reps "fighting" for it. Yes, we need ALL of your services, but my experience with Union Rep.'s, we had the same Rep at 2 local companies, Rockwell & Lobdell-Emery, & he allowed both to leave. I do feel Romney/Ryan will bring jobs & lower deficit, repeal Obama-care & implement a more common sense healthcare(ALOT cheaper than Obama's), & NOT give billions$ in grants to companies who make political contributions...then file bankruptcy. But we want NOBODY remotely affiliated to the Bushes in office AGAIN.

Let me address August 13, 2012 9:23 AM. I was quoted in November saying that I “…personally, will help in the transition…” not “oversee any group”. After six years, we passed the festival on to the next group, just as it was passed along to us. Hopefully it was better after six years. When the Friends of the Park took the festival over from the Starke Co. Youth Club, we started with no funds, no experience and almost no information. Not everything that is done is done so the whole world sees it. I’ve been asked a number of times for information about the festival and gladly passed the information along. I have received calls and emails from vendors and interested parties and have passed that info on also. So yes, I have helped. Maybe not so “hands on” or “overseeing” as some sound like I should do, but myself and others have been available to both groups that was going to do the festival this year. As for the festival funds, it was a fundraising effort for the Friends of the Park, not the festival. When we took the festival from the SCYC, they didn’t give us any startup money. As for the Friends of the Park, we are in a transition this year and we are planning activities for next year. Have to have money to keep things going next year. As to the cleanup of the parks, that’s why we have a park board and a park crew that is working hard to get this done.

I learned a long time ago, when you give something like this up to someone else, let them do it unless they ask for help. Be there if they need you, but keep your nose out of it. Nobody likes to hear, “That’s the way we use to do it” or “That’s now the way it was before”.

Is it only me, or do the politician's lies get more blatant with each election? Both sides are equally good, or should I say bad, liars. It reminds me of the old saying that the first liar doesn't stand a chance!

The most disturbing thing about all this is they do it because it works! Most of us just accept it as part of the election process, shrug our shoulders and go vote, knowing full well that nothing after the election will resemble what was said before. Now what does that say about us, the American public?

Anyone who believes even a quarter of what either side says has to be so dedicated to their party they just don't care whether anything is true or not. Our nation's founders would be so proud of us!

Wait a minute there. Just because politicians lie and tell half truths on the campaign trail doesn't mean they will do the same once they get in office. For example there was, hmmm, I guess I can't think of any good examples. Oh, that's right, there was Jimmy Carter! But nobody liked him. He was just too honest and nice!

Why do they have to knock each other, why can't they run a campaign on their merits and leave each other alone. Just think of the millions of dollars spent on these campaign's that could go to help our country. Then people wonder why we don't want to vote. And when they get their runnng mates it is a witch hunt to see if they can be destroyed. Fed up with the whole champaign.

One day the shepherd noticed about a third of his sheep were leaning to their left, almost to the point of falling over, as they tried to better hear what a huckster was saying. Then to his surprise, he noticed another third of his flock were leaning so far to their right, they too were about to fall over, as they listened to yet another huckster.

All of a sudden both groups of sheep did fall to the ground. Then the unspeakable happened. A pack of waiting wolves quickly attacked and killed the helpless sheep floundering in the dirt.

Fortunately, the middle third of his flock still standing upright on their feet were able to follow the shepherd to safety.

The moral of this story is those who flounder in the dirt listening to wolves disguised as hucksters are the real sheeple.

How can Obama lead a gov't that has NEVER passed a budget? NEVER!!! I watched his speech the other night, & he's still repeating the same stuff that we need "clean energy & improve education", yet he's givin out BILLIONS to "Green Companies" that make huge political contributions, & then FILE BANKRUPTCY!!! This is FRAUD! Everything he's done has alterior motives. He has an UnConstitutional Acorn Group vying for illegal votes. What's wrong with showing I.D. at the polls? I've done it every year here in Starke Co., so what's wrong with proving you're an American...& alive? Ask why he won't show his college transcripts. It's because he was a foreign exchange student, who lived with the Ayres in Chicago, & had his college funded by foreign financial aide, but these records are SEALED from the public. There are over 400 students from his graduating class at Colombia, with the same double major, who do NOT remember EVER seeing him. He actually went by a different last name in college, possibly his grandparents, but he won't acknowledge or release anything. Why is his biggest $$$ backer, George Soros, buying every American gun & ammo company he can, Marlin & many others...WHY? Why are total non-military Gov't offices making huge purchases of ammunition as we speak? If Obama is presently taking $760 Billion from Medicare, WHERE'S IT GOING? On a program that's not even in operation yet? Folks, PLEASE don't be naive, this ISN'T a Rep. or Dem. issue...IT'S AN AMERICAN ISSUE. We have to Unite, for he has divided our Nation, & laying the groundwork for things FAR BEYOND OUR COMPREHENSION. America is in far worse shape than we can imagine, but IF Obama wins,...I don't even want to imagine :(

I too am sick of the campaign already, and of the commercials. But, if you 'just don't know' WHO to vote for, either you've not done your homework, or you've not been affected by the last 3 1/2 years (highly unlikely). I don't know how old you are, but you certainly should know the REAL differences between the parties (and not believe the crap the other party SAYS is true of either party), and if you don't know the differences, and if you're not willing to find out (and 'finding out' does not mean watching commercials) then you shouldn't BE voting. I wish people would take voting more seriously. I know, I know...don't jump all over me for saying 'it's your RIGHT', because it certainly is, but it's also your responsibility to do a little research and not depend on commercials or friends for information BEFORE you vote.

And to August 16, 2012 5:33 AM...do you know the circumstances that the dog crate was strapped to the top of the car? (it is, by the way, not much different than letting a dog ride in the back of a pick up truck, in our out of a crate.)

You have to ask yourself why the amazing facts presented above have not been disclosed by reputable newspapers and worldwide news organizations. After all, they have 10’s of thousands of highly paid reporters working 24x7 trying to find something, anything on every politician and celebrity on this planet. Our poster will say they are part of the conspiracy to cover up President Obama’s past.

But no one does anything for nothing. Just how much would it take to buy off all the reputable news organizations, and where would so much money come from? The truth is this ridiculous stuff exists only in virtual reality, where anything can be said without verified and documented sources.

I have a feeling that if most of these people were to pause and reflect a moment, they would realize they don’t really believe what they are saying either. Most are saying these things and passing around jokes and cartoons out of hate. It’s just that simple.

I didn’t vote for Mr. Obama last election and don’t plan to this time, either. For me, it’s a matter of way too many social programs and too much liberal thinking. On the other hand, I think I would almost rather take a beating than vote for the things the Republican Party seems to stand for these days. That’s assuming we can even figure out what either side stands for or will pursue once elected.

A few thoughts on same sex marriage. This subject seems similar to the need these days to be politically correct about everything to the detriment of common sense.

Religious beliefs and reasons aside, what does nature have to say about same sex unions? Nothing, I guess, since such a union would not result in any offspring. Whether humans or animals have existed thousands or millions of years on this planet, it hasn't happened through same sex unions. I think it is safe to say such a thing is not natural. I wonder what a farmer has to say about same sex unions.

Yet, I hear on the news that same sex marriages are inevitable. Now we even see some politicians jumping on that band wagon, so as not to offend anyone.

I suppose it is politically incorrect to say same sex unions are unnatural, so what impractical thing is next?

It isn't just golf carts that cause safety problems on public roads. These so called mopeds are even worse. I have almost hit several on highways. Sometimes because many don't obey traffic laws and swerve in and around cars. Sometimes because they are driving recklessly with someone on the back.

The laws refers to them as mopeds. Where are the pedals! The law also says they must be limited to a 49cc engine which should limit their speed to something like 35mph. Take a look at some of these going down US 35 at 50mph or more without a license plate and tell me they are within the law.

If I'm not mistaken, a driver is supposed to have insurance and a drivers license, just like golf carts, even if their so called moped isn't plated. Take a look at some of these characters and tell me they have insurance and a drivers license! But guess what will happen if I hit one that swerves in my path?

A local case of man arrested and charged with molestation seems to have an interesting twist. Seems the man was convicted of the murder of a Knox woman in the 80's. And inspite of this conviction, we find him once again in our community and charged with molesting a juvenile! Can anyone give justification to this turn of events, because this is so wrong in so many ways!

Believe it or not, some parents move over the summer and never tell the schools. It's hard to determine an exact number for the first few weeks until the school determines if kids are absent or if they moved. And this happens throughout the school year, too. Kids stop showing up, only to find out later that they moved when the school gets a request for records from another school. I agree that the voucher system can hurt the public schools, but the fact that the superintendent didn't have a hard solid number is not his fault.

Some of us can actually can take off the blinders and remember history. Banks failing, almost 4 trillion dollars funding two wars and not included in the budget. Privatized war greasing the contractors. Tax cuts for the wealthy that caused a budget deficit. A Republican controlled congress that deregulated banks and wall street for ten years leading up to President Obama and the Democrats taking control. Years of Illegal Immigrants flooding into our country taking jobs Americans don't want. Remember that line.

Do I need to continue!

After President Obama's first year in office we started creating jobs again

Lets look at the new canidates in the race . Lets cut spending , good idea, but what services are they going to cut also. The govenour balanced the stste budget . Cut social services cut school funding cut retirements etc etc . He has cut the staff of every stste office so far they can'd do their jobs .
He has taken money from most counties to balace the budget at the state level to make himself look attractive for the presidental run. His own party saw through him.His main money man lost 1/2 billion dollars and has yet to explain where it is. And he's running for Congress.
Own our own local level lets be carefull not to put people who are following his (Daniels) budget thought process in a position where they will do the same to our county.
Please ask all the canidates How are you going to do what you say and what will be the outcome.
Here are 3 question to ask . What are you going to do to improve education and what are you goin go do to increase the saftey of all citizens in our county and those who visit it .
Last what are you going to do to encurage the youth of our county to stay here and raise the families
