Vine for the women who made the rain come
Seagulls sing your hearts away
'Cause while the sinners sin, the children play
Oh Lord how they play and play
For that happy day, for that happy day
O Happy First Day of September
The rains finally came
It soaked the parched ground
Too late to save the corn
Fall into the cool days
that precede the snowfall
And know that the earth
will soon be tucked in for
the winter.
The hopes come alive
In the good old Indiana Springtine
And all knows
If you dislike today's rain
Wait...the sunshine will come again.
Just when is not ours to decide.
So come visit Indiana

No Hurricanes touch our northern

Big and small return without the

Flowers bloom regardless of man
And the Rainbows come again.
So it is back home to good old

How nice to read some pleasantry instead of all the political rants!
I'm sure they will be back, but for today, I rather like the poetry!
I agree.....it's nice to see something pleasant. Thank you to whoever wrote the poetry.
How can the teacher plead Not guilty when he had a kid with the girl??
Does anyone know why someone pounded posts in the ground to prevent access to Bass Lake at the area known as the "pocket" or "hillbilly beach"?? Also who is the owner of this land, is it private, state or county owned? just wondering why more and more sites around Bass Lake are being closed for public use.
Anyone with half a brain should be insulted by American politics.
Last week we heard the Republicans exaggerate the truth, tell half-truths, tell outright lies and point the finger at the other party. This week we get to hear the Democrats do the very same thing.
How can anyone vote intelligently? Even worse how can anyone respect a president or presidential candidate that treats us like a bunch of fools?
I believe there are approx 26 Public Access points at Bass Lake, though they're not marked, & neighboring owners have infringed on these public sites, basicly squeezing them out. It's due time that these sites be marked, & local Starke Co. residents(or whomever) start taking advantage of them, as we're taxpayers as well. I really like taking my labs to "hillbilly beach", for it's shallow, & a great place to play fetch with them. We will bring this issue up at the next County Council Meeting, & get these spots marked for public use.
I hope all can pray for the Wagner/McIntire families for the loss of their beautiful, 17 y.o. daughter, Taylor Wagner, who was such an extraordinary, beautiful & talented young lady. From 4H, to her continuous daily volunteer jobs, to countless other committments, there's just so much that was special in Taylor, & we can not fathom the pain they are feeling. But we want them to know that their community loves them dearly, are praying diligently, & here for them for anything they could possibly need. Shocking trajedies such as this seem impossible to understand, but we must trust Our Lord, & move forward in Faith, & continue praying for them. I am sure of 1 thing, Heaven received an angel that is as wonderful as God makes them. I am so grateful to live in a community where people care & love one another so much.

Regarding Taylor Wagner....
I happen to be one of the individuals that was following the car that was driven by Taylor on Saturday. There were many diffenent events that occured in order for me to be right there at that time which is really wierd.
Please allow me to share some things about that day...
I slammed on my brakes and went running up to her. Another lady rushed up and we started to talk to her in order to get a response. The sounds and the smells coming from the car was overwelling so I turned off the car and went back to Taylor. Someone had pulled behind my car called 911 along with a lady that came out of her house. Someone stepped up and was helping with traffic. As this lady was holding Taylor's hand and I was kneeing and wanting everything in my being to help her.... help her in anyway. A man then came up to us and asked a couple of questions. The last question was 'Did we pray?' We then prayed a simple prayer and laid hands on her. At that moment in time, there was no sound, there was not other activities around us.... just silence. The spirit of the Lord was there. He left and we were continuing to talk to Taylor and making sure that if I could have done anything... it would have been done.
At that time I did not know Taylor's name, even with her name on the back of her shirt, I did know she liked horses and in my heart she is a loving daughter, friend and will be missed greatly.
I have thanked God over and over that I was there during this time and that I could share this comment.
Taylor has made a difference in my life!
Please pray for this family and can someone out there make sure this post gets to Taylor's family... thanks...Don
there are over 20,000 family coffins already being storing in kingbury, the fema camp in ready to go in se indy, the haarp complex in alaska, has shown massive about of radition. google haarp and new madrid fault. a 6-7 new madrid earthquake would case huge distruction and lose of life, and the white house would enact martial law. new laws signed in the last few yrs gives the government total control of all property and all fuels and food. the haarp rays explains the dead birds and animals in arkansas. the oil companies will be blamed for the earthquake. read about haarp before you blow this off as another goof ball
Bass Lake/Hillbilly Beach this property is not only privately owned by the DRN put up the posted due to the ATV & Golf carts driving on the sand. There is a rare species of plant life there & the DNR is trying to save it. For those that have been using ATV's & Golf carts there it is illegal and you can recieve a ticket and fines. For those who take there horses there it is also illegal & you can recive fines and tickets too. For those of you who have pulled out some of the posts people are watching for you.
The Social Security Administration posted a notice that it was purchasing 174,000 hollow-point bullets. Any ideas why they need them and what their plans might be for them?
No, that's fine, leave the posts people, there are numerous Public Access sites around the lake, & they will be published in the paper & marked soon, so everyone can cozy up with the residents :)
I guess the government just can't keep anything a secret now that we have the Internet and email chain letters. Aren't you worried they are going to come looking for you for spreading their secrets?
Marijuana cultivation in the United States can trace its lineage some 400 years. For most of our nation's history, farmers grew marijuana -- then known exclusively as hemp -- for its fiber content. Colonialists planted the first American hemp crop in 1611 near Jamestown, Virginia. Soon after, King James I of Britain ordered settlers to engage in wide scale farming of the plant.1 Most of the sails and ropes on colonial ships were made from hemp as were many of the colonists' bibles, clothing, and maps.2
According to some historians, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson cultivated marijuana and advocated a hemp-based economy.3 Some colonies even made hemp cultivation compulsory, calling its production necessary for the "wealth and protection of the country."4 Marijuana cultivation continued as an agricultural staple in America through the turn of the 20th century
Marijuana first earned recognition as an intoxicant in the 1920s and 1930s. Recreational use of the drug became associated primarily with Mexican-American immigrant workers and the African-American jazz musician community. During this time, hemp was renamed "marihuana" and the plant's longstanding history as a cash crop was replaced with a new image: "The Devil's Weed."

REPENT YOUR SINS TO THE LORD AND ASK HIM TO COME INTO YOUR HEART
Maybe the news media is in on the government's casket secret. Even so, I'm surprised a concerned private citizen like yourself hasn't brought this to the attention of candidates running for office this coming November. Maybe the politicians are in on it, too. Geez, maybe everybody is in on it.
Seems you think the world is going to end December 23, 2012. Guess you've got things covered with the Lord. Why are you making so much of this casket thing?
I guess if we are all going to end up in caskets in December, it really doesn't matter who gets elected!
The American Medical Association (AMA) represented the lone voice against marijuana prohibition before Congress. AMA Legislative Counsel Dr. William C. Woodward testified, "There is no evidence" that marijuana is a dangerous drug. Woodward challenged the propriety of passing legislation based only on newspaper accounts and questioned why no data from the Bureau of Prisons or the Children's Bureau supported the FBN's position. He further argued that the legislation would severely compromise a physician's ability to utilize marijuana's therapeutic potential. Surprisingly, the committee took little interest in Woodward's testimony and told the physician, "If you want to advise us on legislation, you ought to come here with some constructive proposals ... rather than trying to throw obstacles in the way of something that the federal government is trying to do.
A Costly Failure That Must Be Ended
Current marijuana policy is a dismal and costly failure. It wastes untold billions of dollars in law enforcement resources, and needlessly wrecks the lives and careers of millions of our citizens. Yet marijuana remains the recreational drug of choice for millions of Americans.
Congress needs to move beyond the “reefer madness” phase of our marijuana policy, where elected officials attempt to frighten Americans into supporting the status quo by exaggerating marijuana’s potential dangers. This is an issue about which most members of Congress are simply out of touch with their constituents, who know the difference between marijuana and more dangerous drugs, and who oppose spending $25,000 a year to jail an otherwise law-abiding marijuana smoker.
In fact, if marijuana smoking were dangerous, we would certainly know it; a significant segment of our population currently smoke marijuana recreationally, and there would be epidemiological evidence of harm among real people. No such evidence exists, despite millions of people who have smoked marijuana for years. So while we do need to fund more research on marijuana, especially research regarding medical uses -- which, by the way, has been delayed by the federal government for years -- we certainly know marijuana is relatively safe when used responsibly by adults.
It’s time for Congress to let go of Reefer Madness, to end the crusade against marijuana and marijuana smokers, and to begin to deal with marijuana policy in a rational manner. The debate over marijuana policy in this Congress needs to be expanded beyond the current parameters to include consideration of (1) decriminalizing the marijuana smoker and (2) legalizing and regulating the sale of marijuana to eliminate the black market.
Millions of Mainstream Americans Have Smoked Marijuana
It is time to put to rest the myth that smoking marijuana is a fringe or deviant activity engaged in only by those on the margins of American society. In reality, marijuana smoking is extremely common and marijuana is the recreational drug of choice for millions of mainstream, middle class Americans. Government’s surveys indicate more than 70 million Americans have smoked marijuana at some point in their lives, and that 18-20 million have smoked during the last year.12 Marijuana is the third most popular recreational drug of choice for Americans, exceeded only by alcohol and tobacco in popularity.
A national survey of voters conducted by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) found that 32% -- one third of the voting adults in the country -- acknowledged having smoked marijuana at some point in their lives.13 Many successful business and professional leaders, including many state and federal elected officials from both political parties, admit they used marijuana. It is time to reflect that reality in our state and federal legislation, and stop acting as if marijuana smokers are part of the crime problem. They are not, and it is absurd to continue spending limited law enforcement resources arresting them.
Why would they need caskets? Wouldn't it be more easy to dig big holes and chuck the bodies in them? Cheaper too?
The reason for the 174,000 bullets by the Social Security Administration is that if OBAMA CARE don't kill the old and infirm fast enough they can shoot them
The post at 4:08pm about Obamacare is a typical lie from the Republican party. Even if someone knows nothing, it only takes a couple minutes of reading anything anywhere to know that isn't true.
In fact, the truth is just the opposite. Obamacare benefits the old, feeble and poor at the expense of those better off.
Me? I'm one of those better off. Obamacare doesn't make much difference to me.
I will say I intend to vote Republican this fall, despite the fact that the Republican party has so many uninformed extremists like the 4:08pm poster.
Actually, I'm sure he or she isn't uninformed. They just hate our current president and enjoy the trash talk.
Why is Social Security buying bullets? That's a scary question. Could this be true or just joke on someone's part. God help our country, People are going mad. Also are they going to eliminate Social Security. We paid into it all our working years. I guess the old isn't worth being taking care of. So much for Obama Care. Yes
the FEMA coffin story is 5 yrs old now...people need to do some legitimate reading before they spout off with their ignorance
http://miseryindex2008.blogspot.com/2008/12/conspiracy-theory-on-fema-coffins.html
http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/military/news/4312850
Before you go off on a tangent because the Social Security Agency is buying bullets do some research. Yes they ordered them, however, it is for their security teams that they have in place to investigate threats against the department. I do not like the Affordable Health Care Act for the most part, but, they aren't going to start shooting people at the social security administration to get out of paying medicare. Let's use our brains people...
It is sad to see how America has been allowed to become a POLITICAL state. By this I mean that there are two kinds of people in the United States. Americans, and politicians.
Americans make decisions that are in the better good for the COUNTRY and the people in it. Politicians make decisions according to how it benefits them or the people that line their pockets. ONE way this is so publically displayed is the amount of LEGAL BRIBERY that takes place every day in public view. The politicians call them "lobbyist" . This is ONE reason that necessary medications cost so much. The pharmaceutical companies spend MILLIONS every year to ensure that their ability to mark-up the medications sold to AMERICANS continues. However, we send and or sell the same medications to other countries either free under the title of "RELIEF" or at greatly reduced prices. The cost the AMERICANS pay for medications, or for that matter medical attention/needs in general, directly affects the insurance companies and their high rates, as well as the Social Security Admin. and it's ability to continue paying benefits.
To cut to the chase.... vote for a "politician" due to his past actions, not because he/she is a democrat or republican, or whatever. Vote for those that have a PROVEN record for their belief of country, not currency.
I'm pretty sure the comment at 4:08 about shooting the elderly was a JOKE people. It made me laugh and laughter is good for the soul. It has also been said that one can never have too much ammunition, a belief which I strongly embrace. I also had read the debunking of the caskets and FEMA camp stories. It is fun to see how many people read the radical web sites and believe all that they read there. I believe Mo'Green needs to lay off the weed though. I am pretty sure he is not convincing anyone that they want to be a pothead like him.
This blog is great morning entertainment.
Okay, Ham Radio operators help me out here. Regarding the height debate of the Sheriff's radio tower being governed by local ordinance. The FCC has regulations superceding any local ordinances regarding radio towers, municipal and personally owned. A simple check of the FCC regs may save the taxpayer a bundle if this is found to be correct!
174,000 hollow-points? Social Security must have one huge security team. And about the FEMA camps and coffins, Jesse Ventura covered that quite thoroughly on conspiracy theories.
Thank you to the person who wrote the post about those helping Taylor. Thank you to those who prayed. Our family experienced a similar incident several years ago and just knowing there were those who cared and tried to help was comforting. We need more posts like this one rather than the "long-winded" rants about nonsense. Please....WKVI set some better guidelines for your discussion board and limit the length of the submissions.
Maybe if you are interested in the Kingsbury Fema thing go on you tube and look at the Jesse Ventura Conspiracy Therories.
It seems very interesting with everything going on in Kingsbury for the last yr or so. New roads, tracks hmm. Seems as though they are going to release some dangerous killing virus, plague something. Then send everyone into a "concentration camp" locataed in Kingsbury. Lets watch the video and see who else finds this curious.??
Oh, yeah, I'm supposed to believe someone who used to be a "professional" wrestler and now makes his living promoting his outrageous theories?? Check him out and see if he ever promotes any normal stories.
In North Carolina, Kentucky and other tobacco producing states, there has been and increasing interest in alternative crops. Tobacco producers are interested in diversification because of questions about the future of that crop. In 1986 and again in 1994, burley tobacco production quotas were cut. In the 1970s, the United States accounted for 16 - 17 percent of world tobacco production and 20 - 21 percent of world tobacco exports. By the 1990s, the US share of world tobacco production had declined to 9 - 10 percent and the US share of world exports dropped to 12 - 13 percent.
Health concerns and rising retail tobacco costs have led to a decline in American per capita cigarette consumption from 7 pounds of tobacco in the 1970s to 4.5 pounds in the 1990s. In spite of a long term decline in real tobacco prices, US tobacco production, which is controlled by a quota system, produces a very high return per acre compared to other crops. Although tobacco farms are relatively small in states like Kentucky and Tennessee, they are very important to the agricultural economy. In Kentucky, for example, while tobacco accounts for only 6 percent of farm acreage, it accounts for over 50 percent of crop receipts and almost 25 percent of all farm cash receipts from livestock and crops
hahaha, that's a good one, did you believe all his fake wrestling moves too?
Let's see, should we believe a professional journalist or a former tag team wrestler?
Don,,
regarding Taylor Wagner....
I think that is just wonderful that you & 2 other people stayed with her!! I know that the family appreciates it & I will pass your message along to them.
Very few people would have done that in this current time & the fact that the 3 of you did...you will definately have a beautiful angel looking after you:)
Opponents of medical marijuana law reform often argue that few or no health authorities recognize cannabis as a legitimate therapeutic agent. Most recently, this notion was repeated by DEA Director Asa Hutchinson, who stated, "We all have sympathy for folks that need medication, but we have to listen to the scientific and medical community, and they're saying that marijuana has no legitimate medical purpose." This contention, however, is altogether untrue. In reality, numerous health and medical organizations from both the United States and abroad support the use of marijuana as a medicine.
For the person who said this fema camp was five years ago why dont you go have A LOOK for your self its in the old KOP before speaking or oh yea your proly one of them you will have to go on foot to see the blacl boxes aka coffins
I thought the people on this blog would despute the facts guess not cuz its all true!!!
Again i dont use drugs and i have two jobs and i would never push drugs on any one iam pot head not you must be pill head or drunk but thats ok right you speak for every one right lol this is the truth i speak thats all your whats wrong with our nation people like you
Jesse Ventura is a GREAT AMERICAN, he served a career in the Special Forces, he was a great Governor in Minnesota, & he cares enough about America to put his reputation on the line seeking out the truth. He was a wrestler because it paid well to people that worked hard to gain his physique.
If you believe everything the Media & the Gov't tells you, then you're no different than the indians that were givin blankets contaminated with Small Pox. I am amazed at how naive society is.
& to the "legalize pot" bloggers...do you actually think blogging on here, attempting to justify it, is going to make a difference? In my opinion, there's a reason they call it dope, for I've seen many people it made stupid. Now, for people with health issues, it may help, we don't know. You're holding nothing more than a "he said/she said" gossip column, so if you're that dedicated, call your Congressman.
I heard that ther is a vote going to happen in march were the laws will change overnight is that true mo? why mo is that your real name? porlly not
Knox may have increased it's graduation rate (According to DOE stats currently around 80%). Only 29% receive the honors diploma and according to Indiana Dept of Education records only 12% actually go to college http://www.doe.in.gov/improvement/accountability/graduation-cohort-rate.
This begs the question: Are we teaching to the middle, or are we preparing those that CAN to succeed in college?
Life is hard. Life is short.
From birth to death
Nothing matters except
our compassion and love
That we leave, those words
will last as our world changes
Thanks to the good Lord
for those strangers who helped
Taylor, it is good that
Strangers are sent when you can
not be there for those we love,
So guard your words, hug those you love and remember, the next Time trouble knocks you flat,
may not happen
to strangers, it might be
your family, so hold all
humans dear and give a kind touch, a prayer and real help whenever, you hear an siren, it truly means another person has gone to heaven and left a lot of heavy hearts
yearning to see them one more
time so take the time to pray for all involved in it.
i was not disputing the fact that the boxes are there,i am telling you to quit watching youtube videos and read.you will find that with a little effort on your part, that the boxes have absolutely nothing to do with FEMA.also, the numbers are greatly exaggerated,as are most conspiracy theories
to 5:11 a.m.
You mean You Tube is NOT a reliable source of info? I thought everything on there just HAD to be true! LOL!!!!
Please check out Snopes .com for info debunking all this talk about what those thousands of hollow points are for. Snopes clarifies stories that circulate on the net.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/ssabullets.asp
Snopes needs to be debunked as they are pretty much in lock step with all of the major news outlets. You can’t always trust Snopes.
Those of you trying to make a point for common sense and sanity regarding conspiracy theories are wasting your time. The people who want to believe that rubbish are going to believe it no matter what anyone says, because they want to believe it. They enjoy it and crave the excitement in their otherwise boring lives.
It would appear that the site at Kingsbury will be a CSX(railroad) intermodal site, used to store and transfer goods from one point to another. An article in the SB Trib gives some info. So maybe Jesse wasn't on track here!
Anonymous says "Snopes needs to be debunked as they are pretty much in lock step with all of the major news outlets. You can’t always trust Snopes."
Snopes is run by a Canadian who has nothing to do with the major (or minor) news outlets. YOU can't trust them, because you're one of those paranoid folks who thinks anything that doesn't conform to your worldview (or isn't what Fox News told you to believe) must be a left-wing, socialist, nazi, marxist conspiracy against you.
Wait a minute, isn't an intermodal facility the same type of thing that Cisco was going to build at Hamlet?? And what is the word on that project, are we still ready to turn the ground any day now!!??
Rumors are going to fly in ALL aspects of our lives, from personal gossip, to outlandish media stories...but all that's worth computing & pondering are facts. With the media, that's difficult to discern, but 1 book will always hold true...The Bible. Put your Faith in Jesus, & EVERYTHING will work out fine.
Facts and faith are two very different things.
True or false? “Snopes needs to be debunked” The correct answer is True, Got it? BTW I don’t watch network TV and am none of the other things you alleged
cisco is not going to be built i heard from good source in hamlet biz onwer that cisco and the county are going to court over the matter cuz the county refuse to pay bill from swer or water?? good ole starke county my home but well you know how this place works
Do you know what the bible was made of till 1930s "HEMP" its funny

Father please forgive us for we know not what we do.....forgive us for we have have sinned aginst our fellow man for we are false prophets
Is the Supervalue Inn still open for business? After all the meth labs, I heard they are going to be shut down like the motel that is on US 30. Who wants to sleep in a room that has toxic fumes in the walls and furniture? Oh, that's right. My bad. Lots of meth heads love it.
The motel on 30 has been reopened for quite a while.
It must feel good to you putting down people with drug problems you sure you dont have one yourself ike tabacco, alcohol and pills cheap

Yeah hemp is good for making paper and rope too. That doesn't mean it's okay to use it as a drug. You need to stop talking and stop smoking, the one brain cell you have left is getting very lonely.ahahahahahahaha

A solid majority of the American public now agree that responsible marijuana smokers should not be treated like criminals. Eight out of ten Americans support the medical use of marijuana, and nearly 3 out of 4 Americans support a fine-only (no jail) for recreational smokers. 52% of Americans now favor legalizing and taxing marijuana, which is the first time we have enjoyed the support of a majority of the American public. Our challenge now is to convert this public support into public policy.
Want to watch a video why dont you go to blockbuster and rent the "union" changed my life for ever oh or on netflix to...
how can we spend 22 mil on a new schoo lat knox????
i listen to the radio report about the "POT" bust in the laporte county corn field its unreal that a person or persons where going to or could of made 100k off of fourty plants sounds like i should get a new summer job just joken lol
No one wants to spend money for a school for our kids. But its OK to spend it on a new jail.
When you hear of the word homespun that is cloth made from hemp,
If 40 plants are worth $100,000.00 then Pulaski Co has a crop worth Millions. There are miles of it growing along the roads and ditch banks. There are plants 6 and 8 feet tall. Really Laporte Co you wasted resorces on cutting ditch weed . You would have to smoke all 40 plants to get a little buz and one heck of a sore throat.
There is a difference between typing the wrong letter and being dumb.
Since when is Knox building a new school? We don't need any new schools as the buildings we have are certainly not in dilapidated condition.
The jail on the other hand - needs replaced. When criminals are put out on the street because there is no room for them to do their time, something needs to be done about that. I'm sick of reading about repeat offenders being sent home with a slap on the wrist, driving drunk and killing innocent people driving down the road, breaking into homes and stealing from people who actually work to earn what they have, etc.
Knox is not building new school, simply adding on a 5th grade wing, and taking down the 5th grade wing which was built in the 50's. At roughly a cost of $150,000 per 5th grader. The school uses tax dollars to generate current and future income and tax revenue in the area. The school is economic development, the jail is not, a jail and the people it houses drain money from the area, it does not generate any money, there is net lose. When Cisco was looking at starke co, they asked about schools, colleges, health care and work force, they did not ask how good is your jail.
While I support the addition of a new school addition I want to point out that it is not just a 5th grade wing. The current Palmer wing includes grades 3-5. That is half the elementary population.
Yah know, alot of people "vent" on here, complain about issues, but I RARELY see a logical, in depth, intelligent comment on how to approach & handle these problems we have. Use this blog for GOOD...offer intelligent solutions, be respectful to your fellow citizens, build people UP...not DOWN. And seriously people, if you're going to criticize, GO TO THE MEETING, KNOW THE FACTS, contribute your comments THERE...WHERE THE DIFFERENCE CAN BE MADE. Tired of "arm-chair quarterbacks" who gripe, but won't use their time to be a part of the decisions being made. Your words are MEANINGLESS on this blog, so, get off your butt & go to the meetings. You might even see how YOU CAN HELP.
1.If there's asbestos in the Palmer Wing...then, by all means, rebuild. But gonna miss it, that where I attended school. I also question what will be done with the Palmer property once it's cleared, for I'm sure they'll want to build something else there, or will be be expanded playground, with another $50,000 needed for equipment?
2.We DO need a new jail. I feel sorry for the workers in the basement. Totally unsanitary. But...HAVE THE FORESIGHT on where to build, where we are going to see future expansion, such as North of the Yellow Rvr. & glad we have the "on screen" court appearances, for that'll save alot of $$$ in transpotation costs. We also need to absolve City Court & conglomerate into the Circuit Court. I also think we can cut back on park employee costs/benefits. It's been closed over 2 months, & shouldn't take 3 full-timers to maintain, as it never did before. There's alot of other places we can "trim the fat" here in Starke Co., such as the County Highway Garage.
I find it funny that all you that are opposed to the building of a new jail are the very ones yelling that criminals should be given more time for their offenses. PICK A SIDE PEOPLE !. The building of a new jail would increase the ammount of cells to house offenders, provide a more safe and secure area for OFFICERS as well as offenders. Like it or not, a new jail is absolutely necessary for the beterment of the community. People cry about offenders being released eairly, light sentences, ect ect. The ONLY way to stop this is to provide the room to house more offenders, updated security measures, and increased security staff.

Just where did you come up with this definition of "homespun"? Look up the word before posting your BS definition. Just because your "joint" is homespun with hemp doesn't mean that everything homespun cantains hemp. Google it.Look it up in the dictionary or ask someone. Your not even close to being correct.
Does anyone know the projected cost of the new jail and how many beds it will have?
To Anonymous on September 9, 2012 2:48 PM. How dare you shoot off your mouth about “GO TO THE MEETING, KNOW THE FACTS” before you actually know your own facts. If you would attend meetings like you are telling everyone else you would know the park employees are all part time without any benefits. The park was closed to protect the public because of the dangerous aftermath that remained after the storm that damaged 100+ trees and several pieces of playground equipment. If you would have attended City Council and Park Board meetings over the last two months you would have been well informed of the damage and the extensive effort that has been put forth to help get the park cleaned up. It is sad that you feel you can sit behind your computer and criticize others for not being informed when you in fact are only commenting on gossip you heard and not facts. If you want to get more informed I look forward to seeing you at the next public meetings. By the way City Council meeting are the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00 and Park Board meetings are the last Thursday of the month at 6:00. All meeting listings are available at www.cityofknox.net under Calendar .
ToAnonymous Item 2 after you cut everything you stated that need to be cut what services are you going to tell the public they no longer have . I can see your point a little about city court but where are you going to move the services need to because they are need by Indiana Law . As far as the park employees they are still working on the park a little at a time. The highway garage please check the number of employees 5 years ago to the number to date .
Your post almost sounds like a poltical speech. Tell all what wrong but have no answers as how to correct.
ok i pick no jail, winamac will house them for $20 per day, we can even come close to that low cost with or without a new jail. pass a county law, that if found guilty of drug dealing in starke county it comes with a 50 yr sentence. and yes the county can pass such a law.
lol when i was in jail i was in a two man cell that had eight cons in there that was aginst the law however i dont support the buldinng of the jail just that they stop arestting people for minnor or ticketable offences but their tryn harder now then ever to justify bulding the new jail then what we got to keep it full of people that dont need to be there people that need help maybe we buld a new jail then will have to buld a new parmacy or another meth store where cons can get their stuff to cook the stuff then what???
if your goining to argue about hemp watch "HEMPSTERS" !!!! its coming soon no mater what yall think :}
Since the 1970s, more than a dozen government-appointed commissions have examined the effects of marijuana, and made public policy recommendations regarding its use. Overwhelmingly, the conclusions of these expert panels have been the same: marijuana prohibition causes more social damage than marijuana use, and the possession of marijuana for personal use should no longer be a criminal offense.
The past three decades have witnessed a stormy and controversial debate about the possible merits to society that might be brought about by decriminalizing or legalizing marijuana. Beginning in 1973 with Oregon, 12 states (Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, and Oregon) have in some manner altered their existing laws to reduce the penalties for marijuana possession.1 A number of local cities have also modified their local ordinances and criminal justice practices to decriminalize pot (Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco, California; Breckenridge, Colorado; Amherst, Massachusetts; Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Urbana and Carbondale, Illinois; and Colombia, Missouri; among others
There are three central arguments supportive of the decriminalization movement which have been advanced in these and other jurisdictions. Perhaps the most powerful and appealing argument for marijuana decriminalization (and/or decriminalizing other drugs) is that it would save a huge amount of government money now being spent on the enforcement of such laws. The basic tenets of the cost saving argument can be summarized as follows:
1. The criminal justice system, ranging from police to corrections, now allocates a significant portion of its budgets arresting, prosecuting, sentencing and incarcerating marijuana users, dealers and others involved in the illegal drug infrastructure (e.g., transporters, manufacturers of drug paraphernalia, etc.).
2. If these behaviors would no longer be labeled as criminal, criminal justice agencies would reduce the enforcement and processing tasks now associated with such crimes.
3. There is a direct relationship between the proportion of arrests or cases processed for marijuana crimes by the criminal justice system and the amount of money expended by these same agencies.
4. By reducing or eliminating these marijuana related events, there would be a proportionate decrease in the agency expenses.
What it all boils down to is answering a question posed to yourself: Are you so in "need" of a crutch that you need to injest some substance into your body to alter your perceptions? Studies have shown that the effects of THC, the high you look for, diminish over time so that you need a stronger dose or stronger drug. Resultant lose of interest, jobs, families, etc is the progression of drug use. Your ideas hold no hope for America, and pictures of a droopy eyed young man holding a joint, who would later go on to become president are not very comforting. The damages, past and present, of drug sale and use in this nation are staggering, and incomprehensible considering the lives lost and destroyed. And it all begins with a single toke of a harmless little joint! You preach destruction and you sell poison with your ideas!
How about his idea. Use the $14 million to hire another judge to get the arrested persons through the court system in a more timley manner. It now take months to get to either a hearning ar a trial.
Will someone please explain how the power to be is going to staff and run this new jail.It was very lightly talked about at the meeting the councul President Pierman had but never explained. Wonder why. Again more question then answers .
You would be good spokesmen for the drug companys studies show in the medical states that teen use is low because there is little or no black market doctors dont just give it to anyone simply put they want what they are told not to and all our president to date have used it their bad people to right also to date their is not one death from the drug its self nor does it destroy brain cells
your wrong thc and what ever drug you speak of are not the same you must not understood what ever you read my dad smoked pot for thirty five years and he loved his job his family and during that course he did not become a addict and he didnt move to other drugs he woke up one day a lost desire to do it anymore thats been years ago now
The Facts: Suffocation of Research Animals
As reported in Playboy, the Heath “Voodoo” Research methodology involved strapping Rhesus monkeys into a chair and pumping them with equivalent of 63 Colombian strength joints in “five minutes, through gas masks,” losing no smoke. Playboy discovered that Heath had administered 63 joints in five minutes over just three months instead of administering 30 joints per day over a one-year period as he had first reported. Heath did this, it turned out, in order to avoid having to pay an assistant’s wages every day for a full year The monkeys were suffocating! Three to five minutes of oxygen deprivation causes brain damage—“dead brain cells.” (Red Cross Lifesaving and Water Safety Manual
The Heath Monkey study was actually a study in animal asphyxiation and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Among other things, Heath had completely (intentionally? incompetently?) omitted discussion of the carbon monoxide the monkeys inhaled.
Carbon monoxide, a deadly gas that kills brain cells, is given off by any burning object. At that smoke concentration, the monkeys were, in effect, like a person locked in a garage with the car engine left running for five, 10, 15 minutes at a time every day!
All subsequent researchers agree the findings in Heath’s experiment regarding marijuana were of no value, because carbon monoxide poisoning and other factors were totally left out and had not been considered in the report. This study and others, like Dr. Gabriel Nahas’ 1970s studies, tried to somehow connect the THC metabolites routinely found in the fatty tissue of human brains, reproductive organs, and other fatty areas of the body to the dead brain cells in the suffocated monkeys.
, years have passed and not a single word of Dr. Heath’s or Dr. Nahas’ research has been verified! But their studies are still hauled out by the Partnership for a Drug Free America, the Drug Enforcement Administration, city and state narcotics bureaus, plus politicians and, in virtually all public instances, held up as scientific proof of the dangers of marijuana This is U.S. government propaganda and disinformation at its worst! The public paid for these studies and has the right to the correct information and history being taught in our taxpayer sponsored schools.
I've never tried the weed myself, or any other illegal drug for that matter. Never felt the need and didn't hang around with anyone who did.
I do have to ask what's the difference between smoking weed and drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes? They are all addictive and harmful to a person's health. Some experts say far worse that weed.
I'll answer my own question. Alcohol and cigarette companies have big powerful lobbies in congress. That's the only difference.
Did you know the Federal government has paid out nearly a billion dollars in subsidies to tobacco farmers in the last 4 years alone? Now what's wrong with that picture, especially with so many people complaining about government spending?
I guess the US Surgeon General is a wimp compared to the powerful lobbies that have Congress wrapped around their little fingers!
The difference is cigarettes do not give you a buzz and alcohol intake can be measured by Blood alcohol level, how would you know when someone has smoked too much? what are the effects when combined with alcohol? and most important of all some people can afford their habits but others never will they will live on welfare and smoke their dope just like most the drunks
My mistake, Homespun used at the time of the western movement in the US was made with hemp. I am talking about the home grown homespun, a woven type material on the farms. Not the homespun of today that is made from machines. THis fabric can still be purchased today but not in this country,
Tobacco is a aga group in the south just like cron and soybeans are here. They have the right to the subsitive just as the farmers in Starke Co do . You might want to check and see how many millions are payed to our local farmers . It is a number much greater then any working person income yet the farmes cry were arn't makeing any money. Just 3 farmers in our Starke Co have received over 10 million Dollars in the last 2 years.
Unlike cigarettes, I don't think you'll find any dire warnings on the back of a box of corn flakes.
My point was why is the legislative branch of our Federal government paying tobacco farmers to raise tobacco, while the executive branch is warning smokers about the terrible consequences of smoking. Both branches of government are spending a lot of our tax money in doing so. That's without even going into the added Medicare and Medicad healthcare costs of taking care of people with resulting lung diseases.
Does this make sense? Of course not. But that's the way our Federal government does things.
am i the only one who realizes this town has not changed, has not grown, has not improved in any way for several years. why are we ok with staying the same? the residents of Knox have the same state of mind they always have. afraid of serious change.
FYI, the current jail budget does include staffing and other operational costs. Several local meetings have been held addressing this with more to come. Also fyi, I know for a fact that Mr. "Pierman" is available to the public 24/7. Council meetings are every 3rd Monday fyi.
Dave Pearman has worked his butt off for this county. If he see's that this is the logical thing to do, then I wholeheartedly trust his opinions/choices/decisions. He undoubtably has the residents of Starke Co. in mind when he looks at all situations, & if you've had the honor to know or work with him over a period of time, you'd find, he didn't take this job for the money, but solely for the purpose of helping this county any way he can. Since he's crunched all the numbers, & found the best option would be a new jail, then by all means, we support your decision Mr.Pearman. Thank you for your service.
I agree with the post that we can't have it both ways. If you want to keep the too-small jail, then you are soft on crime cause there ain't no place to put them, so they got to be let back on the streets. Do you read how many arrests are made? But, you say you want to be hard on crime? Well, you must want a bigger jail to put them in. But don't tell me that you want to be tough on meth heads, but don't want to pay for a bigger jail. If that is your point you should think about it a little harder because that is impossible! We want them off the streets so we got to build a place to put them in. Da.
If the world is ending on December 23, 2012, who is going to put the bodies in the coffins?
The town hasn't changed because that is the way it was programmed to be. Things run smoother in some minds when nothing changes. Have you never heard the saying"Well that's the way it's always been". Well that's the way it will always be!
I'm not a rocket scientist, but it seems to me we should be spending a LOT more on education than jails and prisons. Doesn't putting someone in jail mean we failed at educating them when we had a chance?
Here is a idea, no one wants to stay in Starke Co Jail. So lets quit sending the drug abusers and drug sellers to Winamac and leave them in Starke Co. That way they will straighten up and not go back to jail, Poor little ones are not happy in Starke Co jail.
You can look all around Starke County and see that boards don't want to change anything. North Judson School still appoints their board members; the Starke County Fair Board doesn't want to change anything to make the fair better for the 4-Her's; people are still electing the same old people to fill board positions to do the same old thing....nothing. The mentality seems to be, if it aint broke than why fix it. Don't we deserve more? Don't our kids deserve more?
We didn't fail educating the people in jail. Most of them are high school dropouts. In prison, it's like 90%. Check out the statistics. There is no correlation between money spent on education and the jail population because the people in jail chose to opt out of the education that was offered to them. We need education money to go to those who want an education, and we need money for a jail for those who didn't want an education, but choose to victimize those who have one and who use that education to make an honest living. We need to separate the two, and we got to have a big enough jail to do it. If we don't we're gonna have anarchy!
It is tempting to agree with the 9:47am poster about dropouts not wanting an education, but why did they dropout? Why didn't they want an education? That's what we have to change. When can the cycle from dropout parent to dropout teenager be broken? When there isn't anyone left to pick up the tab and we have anarchy?
The bible(and the politicians) command us to be our brother's keeper. But......when can we expect our brother to pull up his big girl panties, shoulder his own responsibilities, and contribute his "fair share"(which we are expected to do)? There is only so much in pot to give away, and that is rapidly diminishing. Things haven't gotten better for most of us in the past 4 years, why should it have improved for the "brother"?
To the comment of whom is going to put the bodies in the coffins the answer would be GOD. Duhh.
ha ha. I would like to know how many people think the world is going to end in December as everyone is saying?
Heard a report on NPR news the other day saying that most Republicans think things have gotten worse the last 4 years, while most Democrats think things have gotten better.
The report was making a point that most people base how well things are on their political views not on the facts.
Trouble is a person has to spend a lot of time and work hard to find real facts. You sure can't count on either party, the candidates or politicians to provide them!
how do the people of the mideast have all this internet service without even having a bathroom, when i was there they didnt even have outhouses, you would have to wait in line for hours just to call home for 2 mins.
I'm putting my faith in science which says there is no credible evidence the world is going to end.
After Jesus predicted the end was going to happen within his generation two thousand years ago, Matthew 24:34, there have been over 200 more failed, well documented predictions the world was going to end.
If the end ever does come, it won't be because someone predicted it.
If you read carefully Jesus didn't predict the world would end in his generation. Also no man knows when the world will end. Please don't talk about something you clearly don't understand.
Appointing school board members is the correct way to elect. It works the same with judges. You do not want a political affiliation.
They do .....nothing ? Can you figure out a budget to keep small schools running while the federal and state governments are doing their best to shut down the small schools. North Judson actually lowered the budget this year. They work very hard on just trying to make sense of the regulations and all strings attached, that are crammed down our throats. They work very hard on just keeping the schools running. They are doing a great job at that.
Try going to a meeting sometime. I know for a fact you do not, for no one ever goes.
What is broke that needs fixed ? What do the children deserve ?
Nothing only happens when Parents do nothing. Try showing up for a board meeting if you have a question/problem.
The problem is always the fedreal government. End the dept. Of education that was started under Carter and doubled by Bush2. The ninth plank of communism is government control of education.
I do not believe in 12-21-12.
I take revelation 2:9, 3:9 to heart, though. Open your eyes to Satan's deception.
it STINKS that the knox school system does not follow the indiana no smoking law. before you say they do, i get hint in the face almost everyday with a blast of cig smoke as entering a building.
About Knox allowing smokeing in the school. North Judson allows smokeing in the buses by the drivers and on all school grounds and buildings . The signs no smokeing on school proprites are just for show. The bottom line is what they don't see they won't fix .
if you have a math student in knox high school, your students need a teacher not subs, the school needs to hire a teacher on a temp contract. your paying high taxes for you student to have a teacher, will your student have to pay for high school type math classes in college because of not having a teacher at knox. call school and school board now, demand a teacher for your students.
September 15, 7:26am I do believe you are lying.
How do appointed judges and school board members avoid being attached to politics?? Who do you think appoints these positions? It's elected officials of a select party who appoint along party lines!! Better the election process with participation of those who will be effected by the results. There was a commission headed by past Governor Kernan that suggested this appointment type county government system, that was rejected. It would have created a "boss hogg" type county power base that smacks of despotism!
Dear I believe your lying, about the Knox school smoking , if you want I can figure out how to get you my number and I can tell you where and when you can see it for yourself.
September 15 6:48pm which of the three schools are you talking about?
September 15, 2012 2:26 PM
What in the world are you talking about?
Dear September 15 6:48pm. Call the schools, have someone meet you at the door you come into. Maybe they don't realize someone is coming in smoking. Or are you saying that it is employees smoking?
You can file a complaint with the health department if people are smoking where it is no longer legal and the business (in this case the school) can be fined pretty significantly if the complaint is found to be legitimate.
the knox middle school newspaper is really good, you can link to it at middle school website, www.knox.k12.in.us
No it is not a select party that appoints school board members. The township trustee and advisory board conduct the interview. Each party has to be represented here.
You are able to elect these positions. The decision is being made by your elected officials. Board members are smart not to have affiliation to a party while serving.
Our forefathers warned us of of the worst kind of government anyway...a Democracy ! We are a Republic !
Please do not confuse what little proper form of government we have (appointed board members), with the Kernan-Shepherd report. I am totally against everything in that report. I, like you, are totally against a czar type county "boss hog", but that has nothing to do with what we are talking about.
If you think we need to educate rather than let this people end up in jail. Work in a prison, get your eyes open drugs put people in jail. A lot of kids take drugs a lot of prisoners in prison still find a way to work the drug deals in and out of prison while there. Everyone should work in prison if they want to see the truth of what goes on. They are away from society in a state prison and you really do not know anything till you have seen it first hand.
I support the system, I don't support what the system has evolved to. There may have been a time when integrity and character was present in politics, but that time has been lost. "My" elected officials doesn't exist, only those chosen by the political elite can be elected. And everything has the taint of politics embedded in it, especially boards of any type. "Appointments" are along majority party lines w/o thought of qualifications. Granted, the appointees may very well be excellent individuals in every aspect, but it is their politics that gets them appointed. And that point is my gripe!
"Our war (jihad) will continue until America is destroyed!" This is being chanted by protesters at our embassies in the Middle East and being perpetuated by Islamic leaders such as Hezbollah Leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah. I would not be surprising to see similar protests pop up here in the US under protection of the Muslim BHO.
Islamic aggression is a serious threat to our way of life but it is being ignored, I think, in hopes it will go away. It will not.
I agree with you on a national level, for this is the set up you are desrcibing. This is not present at the local level. Our votes count for who is elected locally. I fully understand that our votes for the president are manipulated and the illuminati controls who is in congress and the white house.
Once again both parties are in agreement to appointments to school board. This is what we are talking about. You are way out in left field talking about local politics and speaking of the elite picking our elected officials. Why the disconnect ?
A poster at 5:30 today said "Our forefathers warned us of of the worst kind of government anyway...a Democracy ! We are a Republic"
That is correct, our forefathers were afraid of too much power in the hands of the general population. They knew the masses were not well informed, were not educated enough and were easily swayed followers.
The often complained about Electoral College was devised by our forefathers for those very same reasons.
Many of our forefather's concerns no longer exist. The general public is better educated and better informed.
But one thing has changed for the worse. Many of our politicians and leaders have become unapologetic liars and even selfish thieves.
Is it possible we were better off when we were less informed and our leaders were honest, trust worthy and selfless?
I will answer you, but I don't think this will make it in the blog, but I will try. If you read my blog in entirety, you would have noticed I said these appointees may very well be excellent individuals, but they got their positions by politics. Now if you will take an honest look at the boards, where is the middle class represented. I do not feel disconnected, as I will raise my voice when it becomes necessary. I am just lamenting the separation of the classes prevalent in politics. Realistically, the little guy who is paying for it all has little say in decision making.

Wow you know so much you must be part of the Illuminati. Have you considered staring in your own comic book. You could have one issue about discovering caskets at Kingsbury or perhaps an issue about the president forcing us to be implanted with microchips this will lead to the number of the beast. It has already been published in Obamacare don't you know it talks about medical implants. Satin could force everyone to have a knee replacement and the government will round us up for surgery and we wont expect anything. You could be the hero since you have the insight on these matters.
anathor AMERICAN killed in a hostile country. Let's close all the American Consulates, bring ALL americans home, pull ALL aid for these animals and let them fend for themselfs for a while. And when the come begging, and they WILL, for money, military aid, food, or whatever, simply turn our heads away. And now all ther oil company heads will raise the price of oil JUST BECAUSE THE CAN !! It will have NOTHING to do with current events. Yes, still proud to be an american and would die for this country, but dam, they sure make it hard to keep the faith.
While I don't think the value of my investment portfolio has much to do with who is President, my portfolio went down 17.5% between 12-31-2000 and 12-31-2008. It has gone up 58.9% since 12-31-2008.
Unlike the trash talk our politicians are spouting these days, those are FACTS. It's a big deal to me. I'm retired and no longer putting anything in my accounts.
Am I better off than I was 4 years ago, yes. Am I better off than I was 12 years ago, yes. Am I going to vote Democratic, no, too socialistic. I just wish I had choices other than a Republican slate that caters to groups that turn me off.
People today are grossly misinformed. That big square of propaganda sitting in your living room alone does enough to make any pre television era much, much, much more informed than us.
The whole point of a Republic IS to keep the power in the hands of the people.
Can someone please tell me, why do we care what goes on in Lapaz? Am I the only one that feels short changed by anxiously waiting to read WKVI news on the computer each morning? only to find more and more about Marshall county. I do realize they have an audience to, but the majority is Starke & Pulaski. So why not talk about Marshall Co on the radio and leave the print for the net? Maybe you do, but I don't know since I'm unable to listen to the radio at all during the day. I can only read it. So of course I want to see more of the news from Starke & Pulaski counties. I'm sure you can find something or someone to write about.
North Judson wins a safety award . NO TO HARD TO DO IF YOU DO NOTHING The town is looking terrible . Brush on street sides, and alleys grass growning along streets . Trash on streets holes in streets When was the last time the street dept went down your street or alley??????????? I spoke to my town rep and he said for me to go talk to the superintent . I think thats his job as the ELECTED person
It seems the two people arguing about weed And the other two about Poitier s should just exchange numbers and save me from seeing it; it's all garbage
Politics, I am sure the grammar king will correct it if I don't.
Wow I haven't been on here in awhile, lol. Where do you people come up with some of this stuff? Caskets, Bullets? The roads and new tracks are for the Intermodal that is coming in to Kingsbury. Csx released that report awhile ago. Its creating jobs @ 1,000 so if the person who wrote this crazy comments aboutthe death camp can get off his unprescribed meds he might get a job.....
If you want to know who owns a piece of property go to the CourtHouse they will give you the info you need. What everyone to good to use the "normal" beach. And if I owned property near the point I wouldn't want a bunch of folks hanging around. I've seen that area trash beer cans and things left behind. Right name hillbilly beach, lol
To 9-19, 11:19am You asked if people are to good to use the "normal" beach. Then you imply that trash and beer cans are only associated with hillbillies. Seems to me that you are the one thinking you're better than others. There's good and bad, clean and dirty in all kinds of people. And yes, I'm "hillbilly", also known as southern, and very proud of it!
We were honored to witness a funeral procession come out on highway 30 last week. This procession was about 200 cars and trucks long. It was to honor the fireman that was killed in an accident when a semi ran a red light at highway 30 and 421. There were so many firemen in their trucks that came from several townships and counties to honor someone that was a plus to his county. May God bless his family. Our prayers go out to them.
Term hillbilly means michigan dirt farmer only sland for southern people
I'm aware of the definition of hillbilly. But believe me, when people use it, they aren't talking about Michigan farmers.
Hillbilly Jim is my favorite wrestler. Also wrestling is real.
When censorship is allowed, it's the same as burying your head in the sand. This is the denial that occurs in a community that doesn't believe things of a "not so nice nature" happen. It may protect the "few" from hurt feelings, but it damages a community and prevents progress!
Was George "the animal" Steele really as crazy as he acted?
Something has to be done about regulating the moped traffic in the county. The drive very wreckless, the pay no insurance or plates fee's, they'll drive in the middle of the lane at 20mph, forbidding anyone to pass. I've nearly hit many who've swerved in front of me...it's just becoming very dangerous. We saw 1 pull up to a yard sale, then pull out a bottle of Jack Daniels from under his seat & take a swig. Really...that's what put him on a moped obviously. I just foresee some measures having to be taken. At least we won't have to deal with them(or golf carts) in the winter.
Proper term for Southern country folk is Hill-Jacks. People I know from Kentucky get offended when called a Hillbilly. And it's funny how these people pass down judgement on those that like to enjoy "hillbilly beach". That's just fine, because next year ALL the Public Access areas will be plainly marked, & you rich folk from Illinois can sit right there beside us & enjoy the lake. SEE YA'ALL NEXT SUMMER :)
My favorite wrestler was Dick the Bruiser!
They have to drive mopeds cause they lost their license for drunk driving. What does that tell ya?
I drove a moped to work to save on gas and have always held a valid drivers license. I do agree they should not be driving reckless. I also will say I have almost been hit by more vehicles in the last month who were not paying attention because there phone was in there hand. The mopeds are no more dangerous than the people hauling scrap down the road and stuff falling off the truck or having no brake lights on the trailers they are using. The ones that are being reckless will be caught eventually just like all the meth users, thiefs and any other violator of crime. When you witness the behavior call the local police and give a description.
George "the animal" Steele is actually HIGHLY intelligent. He grad from Mich.St., got his Masters from Cen.Mich, was a PE teacher, coached football for 25 yrs at Madison High in Mich., taking them to #1 in the state, started their wrestling program in 1966, as they won state in 69', & is in the Mich.Hall of Fame & Mich.Coaches H.O.F. He's held his Guild Acting Card for 35 yrs, acted in the movie Ed Wood, which won 2 Acadamy Awards(& other movies as well). He's an old school legend whom very few are aware of his accomplishments.
Why do you assume that all the people living at Bass Lake are from Illinois. Out of appx 1,000 homes about half of these people are living here on a permanent basis. They buy their food here, go to rest. here some work here, pay taxes here and vote right here in Starke County. Maybe some of you need a wake up call and start getting realistic about your surroundings.
It's not the people who live here that are the issue. I know the locals, they wave when they see you, & don't mind at all when I'm out there with my labs. But you can sure tell who's from Ill., for the stick their nose straight up, ir turn & gossip to each other. Hillbilly beach has been a place of enjoyment for alot of people who just can't afford to pay to go to the beach. So, fact is, there are numerous Public Access points around the lake, & it's come time that they all be marked for Public enjoyment.
They never said all the people around Bass Lake were from Illinois. However some of the people that come to Bass Lake from Illinois have an attitude like they're better than us "hillbillies". My wife's family all live in Chicago,Il we go up there often, guess what I'm not impressed. Oh yeah they like to blow through town doing 55 in a 35 zone. Maybe you need the wake up call pal.
Never really cared for Dick the Bruiser....not talking actual wrestling skills, butI loved Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan. Roddy Piper was awesome too. Road Warriors were my favorite tag team. There are a lot of guys who do the crazy moves nowadays but nothing like the wrestling for me from the mid 80's to early 90's. Now I can't remember, but were High Voltage and King Kong Bundy twin brothers in real life?
The Road Warriors ( Legion of Doom) are the greatest. I use to check them when they first came out in the early 80's. AWA would be on channel 26(spanish Chicago station) Sunday after church. They were fully juiced, spiked shoulder pads, the early face paint, and best of all the intro walk into the arena to Black Sabbaths "Iron Man" . The stroll down the isle took longer than the matches themslves. One would go in whoop the guy in 20 seconds, tag the other for the finishing move, Animal over the head power slam or Hawks flying elbow off the top rope.
From The Mean Streets Of Chicago...........................................
In wrestling I liked Barry O, Rusty Brooks, and Barry Horowitz. If you never heard of these guys it's because they we jobbers. They got the tar beat out of them every week. Just like me in real life :(
i live at Bass Lake, have all my life. Not rich, in fact , very poor and ill.My neighbors, this is their second home are rich, wonderful, and caring and spend alot of money here in Starke county. I know we have some who are not nice, but some not nice that live here all the time too. It doenst matter where your from or how rich or not you are , its the kind of person you are. love my neighbors
I do business with a lot of the bass lake Chicago people, they pay well, nice people, they have became some of my best friends, and they never talk bad of the local people.
I also do business with a number of Bass Lake residence from Illinois and I totally agree with SEPTEMBER 23, 2012 5:39 AM they help our local economy and the vast majority are outstanding, caring, and hard working people just like the people of Starke County. It is easy to stereotype a segment of people by the action of a few. So if you want to wear the label of Hillbilly on your sleeve please think how your words are effecting the rest of us hardworking citizens you share this county with.
The majority of Illinois summer vacationers are quite nice, & just want to relax & get away from their doldrums of busy city life. There's good & bad everywhere in life. If hillbilly beach is private property, then so be it. If there is public accesses, then hopefully they will be marked for people to enjoy, but just hope they keep them clean.
Once you register as a voter (assuming you don't move), do you have to register again? Just asking and I would appreciate legitimate answers. Thank you
If you have voted and have had not changes then reregistering should not be necessary. If you have questions about whether or not you are registered you can all your county voter registration office to verify. In Starke county the number is 772-9160.

What in Sam Hill is going on this morning the national news said gas prices dropped 4/10%. Took the grandson to school gas was $3.86 a gallon went to pick him up gas was now $3.89 a gallon it went up 3cents in 6 hours. Now on this evenings news I hear gas is down?
The above telephone number for the voter registration office should have been 772-9160. I made a typo!!
The wrestler "One Man Gang" was from Halsted Street in Chicago. He was always rude whe he came to Bass Lake.
A second incident of a police officer shooting and killing a threatening dog has occurred in Starke County. Before the shouts of "over reaction" begin, let me state one more time. There is no reason or law that states a police officer(or anyone else for that matter) has to wait until he is a victim before he acts to protect himself. From all accounts available, the officer acted reasonably. What was unreasonable, was the dog not being under control, and the onus is on the owner.
A lesson for those who think that their life is a failure. Pick yourself up and just do it. From time to time, life can look hopeless. To help you, consider a man who lived through this: Failed in business at age 31. Defeated for the legislature at 32. Again failed in business at 34. Sweetheart died at 35. Had a nervous breakdown at 36. Defeated in election at 38. Defeated for Congress at 43. Defeated for Congress at 46. Defeated for Congress at 48. Defeated for Senate at 55. Defeated for Vice President at 56. Defeated for Senate at 58. Elected President at age 60. This man was Abraham Lincoln.
Now I'm sure we'll hear how loving and gentle Pitbulls are. If the officer had not killed the dog and it had mauled him, then we would be hearing "why my pouchie has never done that before, he is always so gentle, it has to be the officer's fault".
As far as I'm concerned, Pitbulls should be treated like lions, tigers and so forth. Why do people have to have any of these animals? Does it make them feel macho? Any animal, domestic or wild, is unpredictable.
Yes, I agree with anonymous about the officer who had to shoot the dog.
So true, does the officer or anyone have to wait until they are hurt? Unleashed dogs can attack children and adults severely.
So think about having your dog leashed.
The officer did exactly the right thing.
I agree that a policeman has the right to protect themselves, but come on, shooting the dog 6 times????
flight compare
The dog that was shot in Knox was a Engjish bulldog. Not a pittbull.
People need pitbulls to protect their illegal drugs, and yes to look macho. That doesn't mean everyone who owns a pitbull is into drugs, just a majority of them are.
English Bulldog,PitBull,Border Collie. They all have sharp teeth and can be dangerous when aggressive.
Many owners of pitbulls choose to own them for one reason. Because of their reputation. They know that when someone sees a pitbull, they take pause in any dealings near them because of their history. I constantly see these dogs treated poorly by the owners themselfs. Why own a dog if you are simply going to tie it up outside, away from the home and contact with people and only given attention to once a day to feed and give it water ? Oh, that's right... you want it out there ONLY so it will bark if anyone comes close to your property. How sad. I asked one owner of a pitbull, who treated his dog in the same mannor, why he kept it tied up away from the home and family. His response was, and I directly quote "I do not want it to bite my kids". Seriously ??? Getting a dog thay you KNOW has a history of attacking children with three kids of your own ??? You cannot blame the dog for being aggressive and causing harm to children when it is the owners of these dogs that cause this interaction. I do believe that a firm restriction for ANY animal that is aggressive and the owners of these animals should be held accountable leagally when they do act out. ANYONE with children should be restricted from owning dogs that are historically known to be a danger by nature.
We have two young men coming up from the war today. They will be at the VFW in Knox for a celebration. I hope they will have a good turn out and I'm so glad for the parents that they returned home safe. I pray to God that these wars all end and all of of service people can come home safely. May god bless all the familes that have lost their loved ones, and give thanks for them that so proudly served their country.
Actually, there were 3 young men from Starke County who returned home from Afghanistan today with the 713th National Guard Unit. The third one is Sgt.Tim Watts from Knox.
Hmmm, so Laporte Co. can not sustain their jail. So, has Starke Co. takin into thought how much it's budget will increse, from having to hire more staff 24/7, higher elctric & water bills, to...everything. Building the jail might seem like the great obstacle, but obviously the budget to maintain it is the one we'll be paying.....forever. What is the State had to decrease their allocations to county jails, would incarceration be big business then? Just saying, we are relying on the State to maintain our budget...&..well, what if??? Can we be self-sustaining? The main reason Fed & State Gov't has increased so much is because we've allowed our dependency on them to increase as well. So, how do we get less, or smaller, or cheaper Gov't? Become self sustaining, quit taking the handouts. I just feel there's going to be far more of a burden on taxpayers than just buidling the jail...& Laporte Co. is a prime example.
